A1 I use checking accounts and family budgets to teach my students how to use Excel and Sheets. It starts the unit about financial literacy. #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat
Financial success? Or general life success? For the latter it’s about teaching #21stcenturyskills -the former: younger Ss-basic money math w/ tools like @Osmo Pizza & school store. older Ss-work study, job applications, managing finance in 3D-World and IRW #NYCSchoolsTechChat

I know our math department integrates stock market programs, accounting/business revenue projects and our Special Ed population runs a small snack stand #NYCSchoolstechchat
I love school stores/snack sales, for teaching real-world finance skills-curious though if it’ll be worthwhile when retail becomes mostly automated. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A2: The 3D World-training student’s to live on their own, including financial instruction, is throughout #District75 HS-via the school- mini-civilization groups and pseudo stock-market along with a bunch of $ apps & games #NYCSchoolsTechChat#FinancialLiteracy

A3 The NYC Dept. of Ed is committed to making sure all students are College and Career Ready. What better way to prepare our students than teaching them financial basics? #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat
A3: Because so few have an understanding of it, and it’s one of the best ways to encourage upward mobility for those in poverty-I’d also like to see prize-linked savings become a bigger thing. #NYCSchoolsTechChat#FinancialLiteracy

A3 We must help students take control of the financial future or companies will do it for them. Most Americans can't pass a basic #FinancialLiteracy test :-O Our household debt is highest ever #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat

I know it’s sad and some companies are happy to take advantage of that lack of knowledge. That’s why I think encouraging saving through prize-linked savings where the losers improve their financial standing #NYCSchoolsTechChat

So that student can function in todays society of credit #fakemoney . The concept of money has become abstract. Therefore it is more important than ever to teach the concepts! #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A4: @EVERFI free forever! We have digital courses for elementary, middle and high school. I love recommending them for advisory periods or social studies classes. #NYCSchoolsTechChat#FinLitMonth

A1 I learned a lot as a student just from selling donuts at school daily. Real world, real experience. Lemonade stand. Selling jewelry or art. Washing cars. So many ways to help students learn #FinancialLiteracy. #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat

Technically money was always abstract-paper representing wealth, before that a shiny rock or wampum-it’s always been this represents some worthwhile abstract item I can trade later-the history of Brazil’s real makes the abstraction obvious #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5 I assign @Everfi modules for homework so parents see what the students are learning. Some parents have thanked me that this is something their child is learning. #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5: I have seen parent coordinators user @everfi with their parents but this is an area we can continue to develop. If you have ideas I'd love to hear them! #FinLitMonth#NYCSchoolsTechChat
