NICE! I've not heard that name in a while.
Pumkin is not a spice. Therefore, pumpkin spice stinks. Its “odor” (read: proliferation) spreads widely.
Example-Stinks, I don't drink nor like the smell of coffey! 😆😆😆
Stinks. No caffeine for me😀
Pumpkin spice rocks if only because it signals that Fall is officially here!
Pumpkin spice... Stinks! 👎 https://t.co/rmecg9qaOm
Stinks! Its a shame a coffee bean had to die and reincarnate as squash flavoring!
aw, come on...what was your first one?
Edie from edtech company. First was SUPPOSED to be The Who, but parents wouldn't let me. So it was Springsteen.
now that's my type of concert!!
First concert Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius! Bet you don't even know who that is? LOL
Hopping in! Jennifer from Dodge City here!
Marah from MHK...my 1st concert was Blake Shelton at the KS state fair!
Pumpkin spice coffee stinks, because I don't like hot drinks. However, pumpkin spice candles rock. https://t.co/WCFcJU5Zk6
I will share a topic. In your response, you say why it either ROCKS or STINKS.
Example:
Pumpkin Spice - ROCKS… https://t.co/AjVJWhu8UH
The only Right and Correct thing that should be pumpkin spice flavored is PIE, DARNIT!!
Pumpkin spice rocks. Specifically when it's in my father's homemade pumpkin pie.
SWEET! This topic tonight definitely ROCKS! I'm inking I could totally adapt this for my JS teaching as a career class!
Pumpkin Spice ROCKS!! Seriously my favourite thing!
Thank you! was a highlight of my week last week. I'm excited to learn more!
Sorry guys Pumpkin Spice rocks for me!
Call me a typical white girl, but I love the pumpkin flavor. Consider me in the rocks side!
I say pumpkin spice STINKS. Way too oversaturated in the market and tastes like chemicals. 🎃😝
That isn't considered coffee is it? All coffee is bad. My vote is for Stinks.
Stinks. I would rather have a pumpkin spice hot chocolate to try
saw them at K-State in 1984! (Hmmm, maybe '85)
LOL! Jking! Couldnt resist since you pointed it out! ;) I wish I liked pumpkin!
Pumpkin spice...stinks:/ not a fan of pumpkin anythin
My favorite coffee shop in Olathe sells "chumpkin spice lattes" psl+chai=😍
Can you be neutral on a topic? Pumpkin spice isn't my favorite, but it's in coffee and has caffeine!
Quick plug. Listened to 's book during trip. Great book with real implications for ed community.
Pumpkin spice rocks! The smell of fall is awesome!
Kelli from Clay Center....first concert was Def Leopard at the Wichita Coliseum.
My first concert 1976 John Denver
A1: STINKS with all caps. It limits a teachers creativity!
Foundations of Tech kids are beginning Metal Toolboxes and Plastics Rotations this week! #TechEd#GoRaiders https://t.co/7TYIyqZn2k
a1 stinks-- I'd rather exhaust myself making something OK myself than fake it w someone else's work
scripted curriculum- STINKS removes creativity & innovation
Q1 Stinks for students and teachers. I want to throw away text books and use them as resources rather than hand them out.
A1: Stinks! Except when you need a sub, then it can almost rock!
Q1: Not a fan of scripted curriculum. Not all Ss learn the same. Why teach it the same?
Rocks as a new T trying to see the whole picture/not miss anything. Stinks when you need to fit curriculum to your kiddos.
I am almost text-book free this year. So exciting!
A1: stinks unless can be used as a supplement only. If strict fidelity is enforced, creativity is stifled and magic is limited.
A1: STINKS. I do not mind a curriculum map but teachers are the experts,
A1: ROCKS because it's a resource full of practical examples. STINKS because it tries to be one size fits all.
Q1 ROCKS when you are a new teacher...STINKS when you are confident enough to stop using it!
T1: STINKS! Stifles creativity and teacher drive and passion. Teachers are your best resource for educating.
A1: Scripted curriculum...stinks in general but can be a valuable tool at times.
Yea-- now that I saw the set list I'm singing the songs in my head. It's time to crank some Journey on Spotify!
A1: Now? Stinks. But I'm much more confident in my content and classes - I know it can be a lifesaver for some...
I am a huge curriculum girl but Tt need some flexibility to meet the needs of Ss where they are at any gvn point.
A1: stinks...it just doesn't feel natural.
A1) Not a fan of scripted, makes people very robotic if say it word for word. If add creativity to it, can be good at times.
Q1-Stinks. "Script" doesn't allow for diff types of Ss or Ts
Scripted curriculum def. stinks! I always make it my own. None of us are the person who wrote that script because were all diff.
Penny Blue Love the smell of pumpkin pie spice but hate the taste. Not sure why.
Yesssss!! See you Nov 5 -- and hopefully 4th at Tweetup!
A1: generally stinks but you have to really invest in staff dev to help Ts make good Instr decisions
I have a couple of scripted programs that I suggest as "professional learning in text form." https://t.co/I9u1iw5CXx
A1: ROCKS because it's a resource full of practical examples. STINKS because it tries to be one size fits all.
A1: scripting curriculum is like trying to script your life: Something will come up that you're not gonna be ready to handle.
Scripted Curriculum STINKS ...can't handle it! I want a guide, but don't tell me what to say! https://t.co/qJh6wqiJGI
A1: Stinks. No one likes being scripted. I appreciate curriculum support, but I ultimately want to be responsible for my lessons.
A1: As a new T or T-ing a new subject it can ROCK to have as a guide & a place to start. After a few yrs, STINKS!
Scripted curriculum Stinks! Doesn't allow teachers to be professionals. Also limits the amount of students that are reached.
A1: Stinks! Ts are too educated to be tied to a text. Research can be behind with texts. Ts need to use tools that match their Ss.
I think a script can be helpful for newbies or someone unfamiliar but after that I need room to breathe!
Good evening! Love this topic but at PT conferences!
A1: ROCKS if it is the right program. Our scripted reading program is constantly changing and adapting to fit students needs.
Aaaaahhh... I thought I was being so original. An example of A1, I guess. You gotta be prepared for the unexpected.
A1: Easy to say STINKS now but it is nice when you're a noob & on your own w/little help/feedback/oversight.
Q1 Rocks when I am new to the grade level but it STINKS now that I am confident in what I am teaching.
A1:Stinks!If Ts are not allowed to deviate from the textbook.Promotes a sense of complacency
right program for the right kids. So hard to get the right fit.
I've never seen students cry reading a scripted textbook. I have seen lots of emotional reactions using novels I have chosen.
Maternity leave...scripted curriculum ROCKS MY SOCKS...Just FYI as I panic with 8 weeks until due date and no plans yet!
that's an interesting viewpoint, Brian. Do you think it has to do with overall difficulty of the text?
Beautifully said! https://t.co/69Vmy5tD7X
I've never seen students cry reading a scripted textbook. I have seen lots of emotional reactions using novels I have chosen.
CAM!! Yes they were. 👊🏼I know what songs we can jam out to next meetup. 😂
. I've seen many cry with a scripted curriculum. But it's not for the reasons that we would hope. 😢
A1:stinks! I've never had a classroom of kids that is the same, why would a scripted curriculum work for all those kids?!
a2 Depends
Rocks if action-biased, promotes T agency
Stinks if could be an email, ties Ts down, or only a matter of checking boxes
Scripted programs can be comforting to young teachers until they build confidence.
Is the answer to Q1...which one helps Ss learn best?
Q2 Can Stink if not planned and everyone knows what to get ready in order to share or work on something.
Rocks! When done correctly faculty meetings can be a great tool to set community and team building.
Q1: We are trusted to deviate as needed to fit our students. I do like our program and use what I like and adapt as needed
A2: Depends. If it could be said in an e-mail, and I have to give up my time to listen to it read to me? STINKS. (cont'd)
A2: Depending on the content of the faculty meeting; Rocks. I find informational meetings, intriguing. Presenter matters too!
When you have common sense admin and a great staff, Rocks!
A2: If it could be covered in an email...stinks.
A2: Neutral. They are necessary to keep everyone on the same page, but could often be more productive.
A1: generally stinks...it is always the people that make or break any curriculum
A2: That being said, I've been to valuable faculty meetings where input from Ts is valued and encouraged, and that ROCKS
A2: Stinks- Takes away from the "teachable moment" and differentiation.
A2:....Im scared to answer...rocks if they are teacher lead/beneficial to me...otherwise, Stinks...
A2: Rocks and stinks. It rocks because I love my colleagues, and they make meetings entertaining. Stinks b/c well, meetings.
A2: Depends: not a huge fan of meeting for meeting's sake (let's meet in a dig. space instead), but AM a fan of productive PD!
A2: When mtgs are engaging and Ss center- empowering and productive. Too often a place to complain instead of create change.
A2: IF the Ts help plan it & promotes growth=ROCKS. If the admins plan and "lecture" to us with no goal in mind=STINKY POO
We have one every Friday morning, and the admin makes sure they are purposeful which makes me appreciate them!
A2: ROCKS if donuts are provided. (I'm kidding !)
Would you mind sharing what you did today at a faculty meeting ?
Stinks if info can b covered in email; rocks if teacher driven
Faculty meetings rock, bc our principal makes them relevant and meaningful. One of the only ways our whole school can collaborate
T2: ROCKS when everyone has a positive, student-focused attitude. But it can get real stinky real fast based on attitudes
A2: depends...what year are we talking about🤗 I've had both...
A2: Depends on my day and the topic. In general, many could have been emails, and that stinks. https://t.co/XffWBx6ZIT
A2: Rocks, important for staff to come together in the same room.
A2 Actually some do rock but often they stink
A2: when you've got a fun staff then ROCKS! If it could be an email or just to put in the required time then STINKS!
Q2: Rocks! I get to see people that I don't see very often. And my principal values our time--mainly communicates by email.
A2 Rocks-When it is an EdCamp style time Stinks-When the information could be emailed to us! https://t.co/EnDf3XYF2S
Stinks if the meeting can be done in an email....Rocks if it's relevant to student learning and teacher driven
Donuts are always a good thing
A2.1: stinks when those attending assume it is going to stink.
A2 Rocks when purposeful.
A previous admin I had brought snacks on snacks to every meeting. I didn't hate it... https://t.co/kTI4HFy1Hv
A2: ROCKS if donuts are provided. (I'm kidding !)
Would you mind sharing what you did today at a faculty meeting ?
it's just getting students to see that it's better, eh? I get similar reactions, by the way.
A2: Rocks if it's worthwhile. If it could be an email or geared toward one grade level it's a downer!
Related to A2, there are other ways to meet 'digitally' besides just e-mail, tho. allows collab, Twitter slow chats, etc.
We rarely have staff meetings...usually only if something big is happening we need to discuss.
A2 Although they rock when Mrs. makes us pie.
So happy I got to hang out with you st , Jennifer Miller!
A2: Rocks if you're with . She's productive and respects our time!
Sorry I'm late, Amy from Dodge City. A2: Rocks if focused on student and school improvement.
A2 Staff meetings ROCK when their format matches the content. If not, they STINK.
A2) We have to think of it same way lessons for kids. If it has a purpose, engaging & relevance, I can really enjoy them.
Love all theses ideas for staff meetings! https://t.co/NgTkieuOFQ
Related to A2, there are other ways to meet 'digitally' besides just e-mail, tho. allows collab, Twitter slow chats, etc.
A2: Rocks when we get to share ideas that we as Ts are passionate about. sorry I'm late, ms football
Puuuuumpkin spice pie?? Hmmmmm??? Mayyyybeee???
A2: Can always ROCK if you bring your own to any life experience.
A3: ROCKS! I love BYOD. Can't live without my devices.
A3: STINKS.
It can create haves and have nots in the school.
Yes!! I love hearing teacher ideas and what they are excited about! https://t.co/PS5kQBSf7L
A2: Rocks when we get to share ideas that we as Ts are passionate about. sorry I'm late, ms football
A3: We have never done BYOD so...idk if it rocks or stinks...
Q3: STINKS-In a poor school district (like Newton) it shows the kids who have vs those who don't.
A3: You know I'm going to say ROCKS. Fortunate we are 1:1 iPads now, but made BYOD productive w/kids on phones before that.
A3: ROCKKKKKS. This gives Ss an opportunity to learn how to use their device for "real world" problem solving
A3: Rocks!!! But have to change some IT behaviors
It would be interesting to see the breakdown of answers to Q2 between admins and classroom Ts.
I've never experienced BYOD with students -- but I'd say STINKS then. Not equal playing fields for learning.
A3: Never experienced BYOD since we are 1:1...I can understand the challenges though
Rocks if infrastructure can handle/and equal access to a device.
A3: Rocks. I'm doing it already, so I'm not having to do anything new or different.
A3 we have 1:1 iPads, enjoy having the same device IF possible. If not, BYOD would be helpful! Rocks!
A3: ROCKS- Ss should have this opportunity and every district should promote it. Ts should get on board and learn benefits
So very thankful for 1:1 iPads.
A3: Both-I have worked in schools where BYOD would not work! But I see a lot of people do it successfully even with primary Ss
A3: I don't like not picking one or the other... but... I see both sides. Thankful we are 1:1!
A3: STINKS. Better to have universal one to one technology for all students
A3 Stinks fpr the students who do not have and also the teachers who end supporting during lessons.
A3 BYOD STINKS! Many Ss don't have a device! It's not fair!
A3: perpetuates stereotypes, socioeconomic challenges, and does not make a welcome atmosphere that cannot participate in BYOD.
So true! Many of my Ss are the have nots. https://t.co/JwiiV9BnNI
A3: STINKS.
It can create haves and have nots in the school.
Q3 Never tried it...but I would say ROCKS. Ss who don't have devices, could share?
A3: BYOD rocks, but not as much as 1:1 does!
A3. I can see both sides. Being in a Title 1 school definitely makes me see the stinks side.
A3: Stinks. This is why I enjoy student teaching in a one to one school. Equal opportunities to kids who don't have their own.
A3: Rocks as long as people aren't abusing!
a3 my school provides D, ss not allowed to use own devices. levels playing field, but not always enough D!
A3 Can rock. Trying to give students ways to use smart phone for appropriate educational uses during class.
A3: Stinks. There are always tech issues that must be addressed with BYOD. Can waste crucial learning time.
A3: Rocks when Ss are allowed to use their own devices in authentic ways.
A3: not all Ss have access to tech- stinks. The time it would take to connect-stinks
A3) My previous district didn't have 1:1, but had a lot of laptop carts. The B.Y.O.D. helped us reach more students with both
I offer a survey beginning of year. I communicate b4 in advance-Then, Ss w/out device checks out tech from school
A3: Stinks: As a tech guy, I can see learning curves that the teacher would have to teach around per device.
A3: the universality of 1:1 is hard to beat. Same platform, same capability, easier to train/assist Ss and Ts
BYOD totally rocks especially when used to enhance authentic learning experiences for students.
A3 How many teachers know anything about Android, iPAd, Chromebook, Windows, and Mac OS? What do you when students have an issue?
A3 STINKS. For as much as I hate uniformity in scripted textbooks, I LOVE uniformity in devices.
A3: I would say stinks if not every kid has a device, def creating a divide amongst Ss.
A3: I haven't had a prob with kids not having devices - but I know it's a problem in some places. But I'm at HS level...
BYOD needs to be modeled but it is a very successful option.
A3: can have BOYD AND offer those that don't have one a rental device. Ds spending big $$ on devices that many kids have at home.
A3: Stinks as a tech guy, I can see the IT issues as well as teaching limits per device. Not all devices can do the same
A3: Both maybe-young kids like 1st grade would be a disaster unless they know their device really well...for big kids it could wk
That's a great way to get the best of both worlds. BYOD gives Ss agency but have-nots feel left behind.
A3: would be more okay as long as their is a tool for those who don't have one
Anybody else wish we were all in the same room discussing these topics? How much fun would that be!
A3: we have 1:1 chromebooks, but I still have students use their phones for some things - it's easier to carry around.
A3: If I was not a T in a 1:1, I would definitely figure out a way to make BYOD work! So much learning/creating/discovering!
only if I could be wearing sweatpants and eating snacks.
Definitely like the idea of combo, but lots would have to change from management and IT end of things. https://t.co/i2yu6mEGV1
A3: can have BOYD AND offer those that don't have one a rental device. Ds spending big $$ on devices that many kids have at home.
T3: stinks! Harder to manage, can't control whether students have it functioning or not, data usage issues, $$$ issues
A4: STINKS. Student mindset around EC is: I work for points. Not the mindset I want in my class.
How about Nov. 5th? see what I did there? https://t.co/t4fyLJVlAp
Anybody else wish we were all in the same room discussing these topics? How much fun would that be!
A4: Stinks. Not always - but many many times. I want kids to value LEARNING, not GRADES. cont'd
Q4: If it motivates Ss to continue to learn or dig deeper- it ROCKS! If used to pad Ss grades- stinks!
Q4: If EC means brining tissues or attending an event...STINKS. All grades should be a measure of learning and application.
A4: STINKS...what's the point?! Really?? Is it authentic learning if you have to dangle extra credit? How's it being used?
A4: I don't offer extra credit anymore, just chances to revise/resubmit/retake. Focus on mastery, not on chasing points.
A4: I love that it gives Ss a "second chance" and teaches perseverance, but it can easily be a crutch to avoid tough topics.
A4 Rocks if Extra Credit really means Learning something NEW not just busy work to make up for lost points. Higher Level Thinking
A4: when I DO allow extra credit, all other work must be done and turned in first. It's extra, not in place of.
A4: stinks...although N first grade we dont have letter grades & EC is not a thing, but Im just going 2 go w/ stinks! ;)
A4: Rocks if learning can go deeper; stinks if box of tissue
A4 STINKS (i don't have reason why because 2nd graders don't have extra credit)
A4: stinks. I understand why some employ this, but sometimes EC is not something all Ss can complete. Creates grade inflation
people give extra points for bringing tissues?!?!?!?what the what?!?!?
A4: Neutral. I rarely offer extra credit, but I can see why some teachers might value it.
A4 Extra Credit....Stinks.... Doesn't help my kids! We are not working for pts!
A4 sticks mostly but trying to "gamifying" to encourage all students to participate in additional learning opportunities.
Q4: Rocks if it's challenging and purposeful. Stinks if it's a means to an end.
Extra Credit Stinks... doesn't show students true knowledge.
T4: this is a toughie. Been trying to get away from it. I say stinks, I want kids to go above & beyond out of passion not for EC
Amy, ,I'm popping in late! Sorry been getting ready for
A4 sidenote: I never learned trig in HS b/c i was able to get a C via extra credit. I see both sides.
A4: Rocks for S's who want to continue learning and growing.. I would prefer to call it Extra Learning not Extra Credit.
A4: Depends on how it's used and presented. My kids redo tests for a few points. It's worth the extra learning. Or digging deeper.
A4 ROCKS if it requires extra learning or going out of one's way to do something. STINKS if you can "buy" your grade.
Rocks when it is used to reinforce a topic. Some Ss are bad test takers & need extra points. Needs to be chall though.
I generally don't offer extra work to do for extra credit. Will offer bonus points here and there on an extra tough test ?s though
A4) We should be finding ways to help a student grasp a concept anyway, so don't need extra credit. Need to find ways to reach Ss
Maybe time to stop designing tech policies based on the needs of IT, and instead base them on the need of Ss and Ts?
A4: Stinks. It's the content being mastered that matters, not the points. (This coming from a student who loved extra credit!)
A4: Rocks as long as it is given to all students and not just certain ones. And not too often.
A4: STINKS grades should be based on level of understanding
A4 Cont. being able to redo work isn't EC IMO. It's getting the original work right. Extra credit is no bueno.
This! This! This! https://t.co/XiyoOXExtz
A4) We should be finding ways to help a student grasp a concept anyway, so don't need extra credit. Need to find ways to reach Ss
Y.E.S. https://t.co/lTmIplPyTk
Maybe time to stop designing tech policies based on the needs of IT, and instead base them on the need of Ss and Ts?
Right! I always accept revise and resubmit. Hard to get my ss to make that shift.
This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://t.co/IsG9jdNA9o
Maybe time to stop designing tech policies based on the needs of IT, and instead base them on the need of Ss and Ts?
A4: I've never been a fan. The extra part should be depth of understanding and knowledge
A5: ROCKS! I'm always more motivated after talking school with her!
I should note that I have great admins who are incredibly supportive of tech initiatives
A4 I have Apple's "Think Different" posters in my classroom. Beneath each is a QR code linked to this EC: https://t.co/zqYHooZrx9
I offer that as well. I think Ss like the ideas of extra credit too, choices & options
A3: Both- it could work depending on the SES of the community, but not for most rural and low SES
A5: But I'll feel bad when I leave people out on accident! lol
Shoutout to who inspires me to a better educator every time we are together! https://t.co/i0t04CfHCy
Q5: ROCKS or ROCKS!
Give a shoutout to some of the rock star educators in your PLN! Be sure to give them a follo… https://t.co/n8DNOctKC5
Yes, they should represent learning! NOT whether it was turned in late or not completed.
A5: are some amazing 1st grade Ts. Love what they are doing!
Some educators I love to follow...

A5: has taught me so much! Many, many others who are not on Twitter.
Welcome to twitter , , & . You should meet .
want to be inspired these authors have amazing books
This is what I get for forgetting the tonight! Thanks Traci, got me online anyway!
I love this idea in place of any extra credit! Ss always have an option to improve and do better! https://t.co/TkNrqXB6sE
Right! I always accept revise and resubmit. Hard to get my ss to make that shift.
A5: No seriously - check out who I follow. I can't tag them all. lol is full of them. is too. And this chat
Yes! If the goal is learning, does it matter if its on the first or fourth try? Have to rethink before resubmit.
A5: I have tons of rockstar Ts I like to follow...just started following and she's a rockstar 1st year T!
