Our students begin September 4, but we all are already preparing, so tonight let’s talk about re-booting our culture of learning for the new school year.

Seth from Michigan...hi #COLchat friends! A1: Doing lots of planning & prep - mostly reaching out to all the parents and staff I can find asking, “What do you need in this moment?,” “What is your vision as you head into the start of the year?,” and “How can I help?”

A1: I got back into "teacher mode" last week presenting at a PD and got some new tools to add to the toolbox. This week I will be working to look at planning lessons. #COLchat
A2: I will be using @PearDeck to amp up formative assessment in my presentations and now that @Flipgrid is all-access and free I am going to dig deep with my Ss to use this as a weekly reflection tool. #COLchat
A3: During the second semester, I want to add Passion Projects to my class to allow Ss the opportunity to build and grow something bigger for themselves related to what they do at school. #COLchat

If you have an idea for your social studies portion of the SB report card, I would love to see it. I want to build something for my class, but need an idea of where to start. #COLchat
Yes. Give Ss an opportunity on our non-block days to take learning in their own hands and research and develop a product showing their learning and/or problem-solving skills related to a topic of their choosing. #COLchat
A4 - continuing to push the SBL envelope further and further. Also increasing student choice and voice beyond the levels I’ve become comfortable with. #COLchat
A4: This will be my 2nd year at my new school. I'm looking forward to pushing the limits now that I am comfortable with procedure and process. I'm excited to learn forward alongside my Ss and develop fearless risk-takers. #COLchat
A5: Now that I am more comfortable with the curriculum I teach, I will be implementing more project based and problem based learning into my class. Ss will be creating more than regurgitating. I'm excited to see what they have to offer their classmates. #COLchat

A5: This is a great question for leaders. Too often, we get too many initiatives started and then creativity rarely occurs. Whac-A-Mole Leadership is a barrier to creativity. #COLchat
Welcoming staff members to speak up in the best interest of Ss is an amazing opportunity for them. Admin who support this team mentality need to be the norm. #COLchat
A5: Each new situation is an opportunity to use our #creativity to develop a best-fit solution. One seminar I participated in years ago referred to problems as "probletunities". I like that! #COLchat
A6: I am implementing the DAILY positive phone call home. I used to do this weekly, but I feel I could reach so many more Ps and other stakeholders by making it a daily thing. I want to include my fellow teachers into the call log to let them know they're doing well too. #COLchat
