Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

Created our own version of the reality show Cutthroat Kitchen to play in class! Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication, Collaboration amplified! Read about it in my latest blog post: Cutthroat Kitchen

A1: I am passionate about students. I hope people know that because I am always around ss, celebrating ss, and supporting ss in and out of the classroom. #LeadLAP
A1: When they walk in my office they can see that it's not my office, it's for the kids. They see toys, signs, costumes, hats, electronics, a karaoke mic and more - They know it's about the kids #LeadLAP
CHAT TIP: If you are like me and moving slow today, open up two columns of #LeadLAP on Tweetdeck. One stays in real time and you can interact in the other.
A1 People know right away that my passion is student-driven learning, kindness and fun. Often visitors can’t spot me because I am mixed in, working with kids. They are the driving force in the lessons. Music and movement are always present. Shatter the status quo. #LeadLAP
A1 In the school they SEE lots of great kid artifacts of learning, Kindness, Wonder. In my class they see kids in every space using technology to share their learning, creativity and wonder #LeadLAP
A1 By looking around my room at the learning space and environment, the displays of Ss work, see the signs, quotes, welcoming envt that we create together #leadlap#culturematters

A1 -I hope people can feel the passion in our school and that we are about Kids first, being friendly and talking to Kids, high fives, smiles, happy kids! #leadlap
A1: We have SUPER symbols all over our school- I’m passionate about helping others find their superpowers and use them for the benefit of the group! #LeadLAP
A1. Relationships matter and are the heart ❤️ of the classroom! Even when my passion an an educator waned the relationships I had with my kids always were my number 1 passion. #LEADlap
Q1 they know im passionate about guiding kids in their learning. They hear what sounds like a 7th grader recounting their summer on the first day back to school. 😁 #LeadLAP
A1: Not much of an issue there. You see what I am passionate about in my work, in my conversations and in the opportunities that are created by the entire team. We get things that we are passionate about done and done right! #LeadLAP
A1: I hope they get my passion for our students the moment I open the car door to welcome them to another school day...when I give them a big hug or high-five that I am thrilled to see them...
#LeadLAP
A1: Through my interaction with the students, staff, and parents. I would hope my passion also shows through my words and of course what's on my walls. #leadlap
A1: If we aren’t there to be personal greeters at our school/classroom doors, then our walls and environment speak volumes. Is there student work visible? Is it bright and welcoming? Are the walls covered in rules? Essentially are we inspiring or regulating? #leadlap#edchat
My office is decorated with bright colored paint and lots of pictures of kids and staff all over the place. It's easy to see what I am passionate about. I, also, have a huge smile and big hugs for all I meet. Passion is something that oozes from me. #leadlap
A1 You can hear what I’m passionate about by what I’m emphasizing, elaborating on, or adding to the lesson. Lots of “I wonder” and “that’s awesome”. #LEADlap
A1: By my demeanor, words, attitude, body language, actions and reactions, my responses, what I question, how I challenge them, and the way I advocate and what I advocate for. #LeadLAP
A1: We have SUPER symbols all over our school- I’m passionate about helping others find their superpowers and use them for the benefit of the group! #LeadLAP
A1: We have built a reputation for being big on technology recently but my hope is that people see how passionate our Ts are and how they are focused on student learning - with a whatever it takes mentality. #LeadLAP
A1: My passion is conveyed with more than words. The passion can be felt by the culture created within the classroom family. If you walk in, you’ll hear student voice elevated and love held in the highest regard, modeled from me outward. #LeadLAP
A1 I try to always be positive, visible, interacting with Ss and Ts, I think people can sense my passion about learning and opps for Ss #leadlap#culturematters
A1: This is what drives me. I wrote this 2 years ago- I'm driven to make my school the best school for kids, parents and teachers - THE BEST - https://t.co/XfLA6HBSd0#LeadLAP
A1: Our School has a traffic lane that goes straight through the middle. Sitting with a new family for a few minutes on the couch, they are amazed at the friendly and happy atmosphere. Everyone greeting each other. We validate at our school. #leadlap
A1: the passion of the adult shows up on the faces of the children. You can feel the excitement in the room and see it in the relationships and behavior. #leadlap
A1 They can see it from our student and family friendly office, feel it from the excitement and warmth our staff brings every day. They will also see it from the interactions we have with our students! Hopefully the passion is palpable! #leadlap
A1. I hope that when people walk into my school, they feel my passion for ensuring that everyone feels welcome so they can be ready to learn. We know everyone's names, greet them with a smile, and know their stories. #LeadLAP
I love the responses with verbs rather than nouns. People see what you do and how you act, not just what fills the space. (Even though my answer was about the nouns) #LeadLAP
A1: I try to make everything I do student-centered and I think that shines through. Instilling confidence and efficacy in my kids is a top priority and that is evident when you walk in my room through language and convos happening as well as what’s posted in the room #LeadLAP
A1: I intentionally model relationship building and make that a focal point—I go out of my way to be accessible anytime and put my cell on my email signature as I want anyone to contact me #leadlap
A1: We are very proud of our facilities and take very good care of them. We receive a lot of compliments from people new to the building as they come in. That first impression is big. It shows we are passionate about our students and where they learn. #LeadLAP
I said this two weeks ago at #MaLead18 - this here is the group of people who I want to work with and be in the room with every day. You all inspire me #LeadLAP
A1: Our core values, the #WarriorWay define us as a school. Our school community is passionate these values! They are at the heart of everything that we do. We have these messages posted throughout the building. #LeadLAP#BeSafe#BeKind#BeResponsible#BeRespectful
A1: I hope that they see my Ss using tech or manipulatives to complete an activity. I hope they notice the time that it takes to put some of it together and make sure it’s just right for the Ss to learn the content in a fun way! #LeadLAP
A1: People see me and know my passion is for the students because of the respect and rapport we have with one another. The types of conversations we have are both educational and about personal life. #LeadLAP
As a teacher, my walls were covered with quotes and decorations about reading. As an English teacher, I was (still am) passionate about kids becoming life long readers. I wanted them to learn about being human through the characters. #LeadLAP
A1: This sign hangs on my door when you walk in the main office for all to see. It is their school. Make it a place they want to be. #LeadLAP#Culturize
A1- I’m passionate about our kids, and consequently supporting our teachers because I know they have the biggest direct influence on our kids. I hope when others enter the building they are aware of my passions through my interactions with students AND faculty. #LeadLAP
A1: Ain’t ever about a single person. It is about the tribe. We hire based on personality. Can’t reach, coach, or mentor you to be someone you aren’t. If you aren’t down with loving the heck out of everyone, you aren’t prime time. THAT is what people feel when they come. #LeadLAP
A1: When they walk in my office they can see that it's not my office, it's for the kids. They see toys, signs, costumes, hats, electronics, a karaoke mic and more - They know it's about the kids #LeadLAP

Good morning #LeadLAP !! Will jump on when I can from #empower18 A1) Ts, Ss, parents, & admin know my biggest passion is bringing empowerment to school because I tell them. that’s why I’m at this conference listening to @DrBiden right now...amazing
A1: Our core values, the #WarriorWay define us as a school. Our school community is passionate about these values! They are at the heart of everything that we do. We have these messages posted throughout the building. #LeadLAP#BeSafe#BeKind#BeResponsible#BeRespectful
A1: My classroom radiates student comfort! We have alternative seating, anchor charts that show our learning, student artwork in the hall and in the classroom. I feel that my classroom is very inviting! #LeadLAP

A1: They immediately know "This is where you belong", see our vision in the lobby, & are greeted by positive, smiling staff. It is clear we value relationships & love our Ss. #LeadLAP
A2: Ideas come from twitter, blogs, books, my PLN, and everywhere. Sometimes I even think of things on my own. Once I want to do something, I just do it. Sometimes need help, sometimes on my own. #LeadLAP
A1: There are two things that should pop out automatically and that is my passion for storytelling and my passion for kids!
I currently have a dead word cemetery outside my room. I also sing a "hi-ho" version of help as my students enter my room! #LeadLAP
A2 I try to think of something I have done, and add a random twist, or gather ideas from PLN, but some of best ideas have come from the Ss, giving them the chance to create learning experiences #leadlap#learningandthinkingmatters

A1 In our school it starts with the reception desk and staff that take a personal interest in meeting the need. A woman told me yesterday she was looking to volunteer and we were the only school where she spoke to a live person. #leadlap
A2: The best place to get ideas is from your people. Listen to what they are saying and what they are passionate about. Watch what they are doing. Listen to the kids. Then think. Ask and analyze. #LeadLAP
A2 I love reading books and blogs, listening to podcasts to gather new ideas, and not be afraid to try things that are odd, if positively impact Ss learning #leadlap#culturematters
A2 they come from reading a lot of books and twitter chats or talking to other principals and Ts at conf. Our building work together to develop and implement plans our school collaborates well #Leadlap
A2 I am like a hunting dog sniffing for new ideas all the time. Many of them come from my twitter tribes. Listening to the people around me and always thinking about how ideas might fit to improve what we already do. #Leadlap
A2. Taking risks and not worrying about what others may think! It’s none of my business what others think about me. I’m learning to drown out the fear of being judged by peers. #leadlap
A1 my passion shows in my words and actions. I try to give Ss the freedom to learn through exploration and create an environment that they feel safe to learn and make mistakes. I try to teach with my heart #leadlap
A1: all of the flags and student work around as well as the smell of my morning coffee ☕️ because I love to get to school early to chat with students that are there early too #LeadLAP

@JayBilly2, @BethHouf, @burgess_shelley
A2 Many of my ideas come from my ❤️. I always try & dream big, think what to my kids deserve & need, then stop at nothing to make it happen. I also get amazing ideas by talking with my PLN. They are my rocks, my inspiration Shoutout to @MrCoachEli@bmilla84@GuysBride#LeadLAP
A2: this is where being a connected educators matter so much! @Twitter and @voxer are daily idea generators and working with people like @awelcome on a daily basis allows brainstorming of new ideas #leadlap
A2 My ideas come from real life, my PLN, games. I often take something I like to do and give it a twist for kids. Spirit Tasting = Book Tasting 😀 #LeadLAP

A2: love to read books and listen to podcasts for inspiration! Especially those that are outside of the educational realm! How can I take this and apply it in our school? #LeadLAP
A2: I don’t know that they’re anymore out of the ordinary than any other pirate! We steal: we steal ideas from our PLN, from books, from convos with kids, and our own imagination can blaze an adventurous course! #LeadLAP
A2: I get a lot of ideas from podcasts, books, Twitter, fellow colleagues in our district, and a Facebook group called Principal Principles. To make ideas happen, we discuss them as a Leadership Team to put our thoughts together and process them. #LeadLAP
Q2: Out of the ordinary ideas come from my teachers, families, and even students. We make them happen together. Sometimes I bring them inspiration, but most often, they bring it to me. Couldn't do it without them. We build on ideas together. #LeadLAP
A2- my ideas come from my amazing PLN- through FB group, Twitter, Voxer... and the ones that just pop into my head! Being creative to get Ts & Ss engaged and excited to be at school! Love trying something new #LeadLAP#PIAChat#momsasprincipals
#LeadLAP A2. I am always looking for ways on how the Ss can connect to the story. Making a thousand cranes, Google live with an author of a book we are reading, growing a garden with Among the Hidden to show importance of food. Experiences are the key.
A2: I have zero original thoughts or ideas. I get all of my ideas from books, conferences, conversations, observations, and Twitter. Thank goodness for educators willing to share their ideas! #LeadLAP
A2 My ideas come from my students, teachers, colleagues, Twitter, books, FB groups and my own. I have a passionate staff who is willing to help out with some of my crazy ideas. Otherwise I just jump in feet first to try something new! 😜 #leadlap
A2: All over! Sometimes ppl say a word and I’m like 🧐. Sometimes from media. From PLN and books. Sometimes Ss help me design something. Sometimes I just wake up with an idea and run with it. If I know it’s good, I find a way to make it happen. I am very persistent! #LeadLAP
A2: I have seen many out of the ordinary ideas come from students. Empower your students to share their thoughts and many great things are created. Student's voice is powerful! PLN, books, Twitter, Personal Reflection, and Empowering teachers all have worked too. #leadlap
A2: Rarely ever about a single persons ideas. The best ideas & our greatest success comes when we leave and we have NO IDEA who’s idea something was. Use the tips & tricks from Design Thinking & bear a Hacker mentality for dreaming up awesome! Magic! #LeadLAP
A1: What you see: Kids' faces, a gorgeous garden window, writers adding more pages to books 'cause they have more to say. What you hear: an excited buzz, chatter, laughter, maybe a poem created in the middle of the night & being recited for friends! #LeadLAP
A2: So many ideas come from my digital PLN, my outstanding staff and especially from my students. Nothing feels better than watching students plan and then make things happen! #LeadLAP
A2: Is it weird to say I have inspirations in my head when I am practicing mindfulness? Because it’s true! The other obvious answer is my PLN on Twitter. Conferences. Workshops. Books. #leadlap
A2: Always be a learner! Keep my team excited about learning with me...when we do new things that are scary, it's importance to have the trust of the team. #LeadLAP
A2 Great ideas come from so many places. Podcasts, people down the hall, TWITTER, the ☠️books. I keep notes of awesome things others do that I would like to try. #LEADlap
A2 Twitter chats and reflections are also a great way to get ideas and validate my own. Twitter has allowed me to reflect more and push my learning even further. Connecting with many @dbc_inc authors has been invaluable for inspiration #LeadLAP
A2: My out of the box ideas can come from anywhere! From tv to Twitter to a walk with my dog... I try to continuously stay open to the ideas around me! #LeadLAP
A2 My ideas come from great EDUs sharing their awesomeness via presentations, coffee meetups, books, etc.
However, many of my ideas are inspired by the kiddos themselves. #leadlap
A2 My ideas come from all over the place..my PLN, books, etc. The best ideas come directly from my Ts. I love it when they have an awesome idea and are eager to share. #leadlap
My pln, Twitter, books, walk throughs, etc provide me with inspirational ideas. Ideas I take action on very rarely look like they did at the start. Collaboration and a sense of team makes everything better in the end. #LeadLAP
A2: the students often have great ideas. But some of the best ideas come from a group of passionate educators (equipped with their students’ ideas). Gotta get the people together to talk and brainstorm! #LeadLAP
A2 so many of mine are flat out stolen, but for the rest of them that are mine own I basically ask myself how would I want the room & lessons to be if I were the student, I lead and plan with empathy #LeadLAP
A2b: many ideas come from Ts and VPs who are passionately searching daily for innovative and out of the box ideas—so important to listen to them #leadlap
A2: So many of my ideas are built off others shared on Twitter, or come out of brainstorming with Ts. Always starting with “Where do you want Ss to go?” #LeadLAP
A2: Humans are Born IDEA Machines! It is schooling which crushes curiosity in the quest of the right answer. We must unleash the idea by creating safety. #LeadLAP
A2: My ideas come from absolutely everywhere—Facebook, the news, colleagues, Twitter. But, worth mentioning is that a lot of my ideas come from asking some big “What if” questions of myself or of society. Curiosity sparks learning & discovery, and that starts with me! #leadlap
A2 My pln, Twitter, books, walk throughs, etc provide me with inspirational ideas. Ideas I take action on very rarely look like they did at the start. Collaboration and a sense of team makes everything better in the end. #LeadLAP
A2: I get great inspiration from Twitter chats. But many of my ideas come to me while walking out in the woods with my dog at the end of the day. #leadlap
A2b: Thanks for reminding me @BethHouf ! A lot of my BEST ideas came directly from Ss! I always ask for their input & as HS Ss, they give it even when not asked for directly! #LeadLAP
A2: A lot of the ideas come from things I read: news articles, professional literature, Twitter, fellow teachers (both in person and social media connections). #leadlap#pln
A1 People know my passion based on interactions with students, families, and staff. Our staff is caring and supportive, and reg connects with Ss on their learning. #LeadLAP
A2: I love “borrowing ideas” from colleagues and twitter. Students are a great source of inspiration for some ideas. This was a great borrowed idea that @SindoniRachel helped make come to life. #leadlap
A2: I think my best ideas come from my reflection and student feedback on past lessons. I love trying new things and students like seeing different activities as well #LeadLAP
In reply to
@JayBilly2, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A2: My ideas are a combination of the needs and passion in my building, things I’ve had the privilege of experiencing, and the outside the box thinking of my PLN. #leadlap
A2: I identify areas within my control that could improve (through convos w Ss and reflection) then look for ways to do so. Twitter is where I find a ton of inspiration. Once you’ve got an idea, take it and run with it even if you’re not sure how it will turn out. #LeadLAP
A2: I love “borrowing ideas” from colleagues and twitter. Students are a great source of inspiration for some ideas. This was a great borrowed idea that @SindoniRachel helped make come to life. #leadlap
Q2: I find ideas through social media, books, PD but when I implement a plan, the idea grows into something that fits the culture of my site and works with the personalities of my team. #LeadLAP
A2: I read lots, and #steallap as much as I can and I always give credit to the idea author...I like adapting and making things work for my site...and I have been known to have a few ideas of my own... #leadlap
A2 as a doctoral student I am always reading and researching ideas to improve practice. I love learning from my virtual PLN. As far as implementing I am always trying new ideas to try and make my Ss experience better. #LeadLAP
A2: Out of the ordinary ideas come when passionate educators work together & are willing to take risks by trying new and different things in and out of the classroom. Creating a school culture that supports and values risk-taking is one of keys to making it happen.

A1. When P come in, they see it's all bout the kids. The activities they do the work they complete , pictures, having the kids share with their P the activities and show their work from exp. #leadlap
A2: My ideas come from everywhere: my brilliant colleagues & their cls gatherings; awesome people I follow on Twitter; things that pop into my head in the middle of the night; amazing bks I'm reading; tchg I've tweeked from earlier yrs; and especially my kids' ideas! #LeadLAP
A3: We do a lot with our PTO and the families including Multicultural dinners, different fun evenings, etc. We also work with @RiderU_SEA to do events and we have GrandPals come to read #LeadLAP
@JayBilly2 so happy to have opened Twitter to see #LeadLAP happening! Buenos días from Cleveland OH, Valeria Carrillo here, Spanish teacher and Mentor teacher 👋🏽

A2: We get great ideas from awesome conferences like @masscue#MaLeads18 and @MSAA_33. Also from listening to our stakeholders at Pizza with the Principal and Lobby Hours! I love collaborating w my leadership team, school council, and admins! #LeadLAP
A2: my ideas come from “sparks” that I get from my PLN, reading books, blogs, twitter, Pinterest, Voxer. I then take those sparks & think how I can expand/customize to my setting. I can make them happen bc I have a supportive pirate leader Thank you @diane_mackinnon#leadlap
A2) They come from my colleagues! My colleagues and I work together to create AMAZING ideas and we implement them together.
Students also have OUSTANDING ideas and feedback, we must ensure to incorporate student input into our instruction #Teamwork#LeadLAP

A3 I always try to seek ways to bring parents or community in the classroom or we go visit. Businesses ran my job interviews for authenticity. I also connect with a global community for more powerful connections. @bmilla84 grade 1 class is a huge part of my learning #LeadLAP
A3 Just had a Spring Into Reading Week where we invited local police officers and student families to come read to our Ss. We also just had a family movie night which PACKED our cafeteria. Ss and families had such positive things to say! #leadlap
A3: I put things out to our community. It's a nice night in the fall, we have popsicles on the playground. There's a Solar Eclipse, I invite everyone to come learn and see about it #LeadLAP
A3: We invite the community to things all the time, not just student events but also surveys, our accreditation focus groups, PSTA, etc. We publicize all the things that go on here in local media, and our school board is always available to meet with people. #leadlap
A3 We have a core group of parents that come in to share in many ways, the police come in for visits and safety courses, the Fire Dept comes in too. We have a Kindness Club person who brings in her dog. Tangerine Bank will do financial lessons withS's #leadlap
A3: I know our school focuses on a lot of philanthropy/fundraising for different organizations like St. Baldrick's & American Heart Association. These get Ss, families, & other community members involved to create a unified School culture & awareness #LeadLAP
A3: New for me, but totally excited to make it happen this year! Ss will be going to an elementary school in a few weeks to show some kindness. Plan on reaching out to ppl of dif careers in a few weeks to speak to Ss and can’t wait to add more next year. #LeadLAP
A2 Podcasts, Twitter, articles, books, talking with other educators who spark passion, TedEd. Make them happen: discussions, then setting next steps. Support pushing boundaries and taking risks. #LeadLAP
A3- anyway we can! Had mystery readers this week as part of our March madness book tournament. @lars3eb even came via @GoogleHangout! Ss loved it #LeadLAP We have grandparents day and Pasta Supper too!
A2: OMG - love, love, love the energy around new ideas! 💡I learn in many ways from broad range of people (edu & other areas), listen to Ts, share & collaborate & see the idea grow to something amazing & crazy good for our Ss. Value risk-taking & innovation. YES. #LeadLAP
A2- My ideas come from so many different places. Twitter, FB groups, teachers, students, fellow admin, and great district resources. Plus I just make things up. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Never know until you try. I’ve slowly lost my fear of failure. #leadlap
A3: sharing student pics, quotes and work through social media outlets brings involvement and also shifts the narrative about your school. Show off the awesome stuff Ss are doing, the community needs to know! Make people feel welcome and excited, invite people in. #LeadLAP
A3: trying to build more events that are tied together. Don’t just have a ‘tech night’. Have an art show or musical performance that has an opportunity to connect with tech team before hand. #LeadLAP
A2: Books, Pinterest, and most of all conversations with staff. We make them happen together. We have a popsicle hotline that gets everyone excited - inspired by The Power of Moments! #LeadLAP
A2 - lots of reading, watching and listening. Also, getting ideas from students on what makes them excited to learn. Sometimes what we think might inspire them, might do the opposite. Kids know what they like. #leadlap
A3: We ALWAYS look for opportunities to involve the community. Smile Drive (Brownies), Pigs4Wigs (police), Watch D.O.G.S. (dads, grandpa's, etc). Local businesses like @thepalate and so many others! Community Matters!! #LeadLAP

A3) By utilizing social media platforms to keep the community updated on what is happening in the school district.
Also, by keeping parents updated and actively involved! #LeadLAP
A3: We invite families to take part in weekly assemblies, spaghetti dinners, BBQS and movie nights. We are also constantly communicating with our school community through newsletters, Facebook, our school website and Twitter. #leadlap
A3 one of the most effective com engagement pieces I’ve been involved in was ‘community empowerment’ at an alt ed setting. Ss, Ts, Ps, caregivers, and community members all came together to play games and learn more about the amazing work Ss were doing #LeadLAP
Thanks for the chat this morning! I gotta head out for a run before I start my first day of spring break! Can’t wait to read all the responses! #leadlap
A3: We’re most known for our Patriot Day celebration every year for 9/11. Our students sing patriotic songs and we have first responders and military come! It’s amazing! #LeadLAP
A3: We offer Pizza with the Principal on a regular basis and invite parents and community members to participate in discussion, share ideas, and learn about our school. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A3 I created evening Academic Academys that were open to all students in NJ. Experts in the field facilitated the learning. The Academies created a sense of pride for the students and the community. @JayBilly2
A3: Another thing we do is a co nsistent outreach to our Latino community through some bilingual liaisons, and we invite them to school for summit meetings a few times a year. #leadlap

A3: Our Lincoln City community is AMAZING! Our community members give our schools and students their heart! They involve themselves in our school. We couldn't run without our community. #LeadLAP
A3 Involving the community is so important. It is definitely an area I would like to see grow at my school. One way we involved community this year, was having a local church group come in and help us set up our school kitchen garden. #leadlap
A3. Sharing Ss pics on social media of them doing their activities and experiments. When Parents come in to pick them up, sharing what's going on, showing Ss work, and pictures of Ss. #leadlap
Hello #LeadLAP friends. So sorry I can’t chat much today. We are heading out for a spring break college tour with our kids! You are n great hands today with the awesome @JayBilly2
A3: Book groups! We partnered with our public library to bring books of students' choice to our Ss... then brought in adults to facilitate books over lunch ... it was a hit. We have just taken the steps to begin round 2! #LeadLAP
A3 Really enjoying the physical ways the community is engaged. Virtual/social media avenues are great, but face-to-face really cements those connections! #LeadLAP
A3: We have a monthly T-led Twitter chat #TMGeniusChat & invite others to join in. We also have a "Twitter wall" in our lobby that is linked to our hashtag. Ss & families love seeing their genius celebrated on that. #LeadLAP
A3: Our school's Social Justice Squad works hard to give back to the community. We run Snowsuit Drives, collect food for the Food Bank and fundraise for various causes. #leadlap

A3 for a #climateActionP I invited NJ Senator @Troy4NJ7 to discuss green laws, local farmer to discuss local impacts, coastal ecologist Amy Williams @oceanwaves7171 to come in and interviewed then shared on social media the results #LeadLAP
Have you tried building augmented reality into this? Use HP Reveal to use student art/project as a trigger, and video of Ss sharing their reflection so more people can hear from the artist/creator. #LeadLAP
A4: First and foremost, I am outside every day greeting buses and kids with high fives. On morning announcements we recognize birthdays, acts of kindness, important activities. #LeadLAP
A3 - Twitter and Facebook. We always stream events to the community. Being at the secondary level, there are always events happening. From partnerships to musicals and everything in between. The building is always alive with energy. #leadlap
A3: My favorite “different” thing was trying a virtual parent coffee talk at night! I learned this from @adamcsteiner- used google forms to get q’s, set up a scheduled YouTube event and when live, it connects to google hangout #LeadLAP
A3 for a #climateActionP I invited NJ Senator @Troy4NJ7 to discuss green laws, local farmer to discuss local impacts, coastal ecologist Amy Williams @oceanwaves7171 to come in and interviewed then shared on social media the results #LeadLAP
A3: I bring in communitymembers as guest speakers, as dressed up representations of story characters, to help serve specialized coffee drinks to staff, to paint S faces as we explore the power of masks, etc. #LeadLAP
A4 We always try to make experiences positive for students. From kindness post-it reminders, to group pot lucks, to student celebrations. It is important to lift each other up and celebrate the amazing and unique talents and qualities of all. #LeadLAP
A4: having admin out and about with constant visibility is critical just like teachers greeting students in their doorways. Celebrations regularly are built-in and a must #leadlap
A$: Graber Houses for grades 1-6. This is a multi-age grouping of students with another adult from the building. They meet a couple of times each month. Ours is a very caring community! Ts are always talking to, comforting, helping the Ss. #LeadLAP

A3. In our school, some elementary classrooms have Family Reading Time in the morning—a variation on SSR but family members always invited! We see kids, parents, grandparents reading in cozy nooks with Ss til 9am. #leadlap
A3: We have parent universities highlighting different topics. I also use @Flipgrid to send out discussion questions for parents. I blog and use @SmorePages newsletters too! #leadlap.
A4: My "open-door policy" doesn't just mean my door is open. It means that I'm here to listen and help solve problems, create positive change, and share responsibility #LeadLAP
Q4: We have whole-school Friday morning assemblies. Each class takes a turn preparing and leading the assembly, and families are welcome to come. Administrators are always out on the yard with the kids! #leadlap

#LeadLAP A4 I created a monthly "Did You Know?" where I celebrated student achievement in & out of school. I read them over the PA & published in local newspapers and on the Town's website. If you earned your green belt in karate, or got your first job, etc., You got a mention.
A4: Character Virtues Lunch once a month. We try to nominate every single student so all are validated. Taft Tiger Tickets you hand out to anyone you see doing it “the Taft Way.” @PBIS training. And more!!! #leadlap
A4: We have mrng huddles 3Xs a week. These is intentional time we spend together as a team to communicate, laugh together, inspire one another before the official school day begins. We call it M@M (Meeting at the Mailbox). #LeadLAP
A4: During the lead-up to finals we have a lot of wellness activities...meditation sessions, mindfulness practices in class, we even bring in some puppies and other animals for kids to pet and play with. #leadlap
A4: we have standards that students live up to instead of rules. Grit, family, respect, etc. In the hallways you will hear, “hey man we don’t do that, that’s not who we are” if someone isn’t living to the standard #LeadLAP

A4 We are the #pdale Bulldogs. Students work on getting noticed for being safe, responsible and respectful to get their name in The Dog Pound. We celebrate each month with recognition and prizes. #Leadlap
This week's theme in the Life Skills room was French Toast with Firefighters! Our Life Skills class loved checking out the fire truck and trying on the gear! A special thanks goes to everyone who joined us today! https://t.co/z5vvlMONcP
A4: The #WarriorWay and Warrior Shout Outs, with staff and students recognizing each other, is one awesome example of a school wide practice that supports a positive climate. This is thanks to @MsBhmsAP! #LeadLAP
A4a: Every Friday we announce students who were “Caught Being a Star” (so a staff member caught them being kind, showing respect, doing something thoughtful, etc.) and they get to come pick a little prize at the end of the week. #LeadLAP
A4: Our Ss focus on celebrating others. Positive Post-Its, Arts Appreciation Week, Tiger of The Day and Kind Tiger of the Day, Kindness Challenges - our Ss are the drivers of our culture. They are a force. Our job is to educate and support their mission. #LeadLAP
A4: We are built on #DesignThinking which drives focus on #Empathy throughout culture of school. Kids are supposed to mess up, they are kids, but we can always go back & ground discussions based on Empathy & understanding impacts & the needs of others. Keep it simple. #LeadLAP
A4. There are so many amazing thing happening in our schools. The key to growing and maintaining culture is to celebrate the wonderful. @E_Sheninger is all about telling your story and owning your message and I agree. Twitter, Insta, FB, etc. Celebrate Ss and Ts! #LeadLAP
A4. Looking for the good things! PBS has made a big difference in our culture because we recognize the good choices kids make! As a leader I try to use the same mindset with my staff- focus on their growth and encourage it! #LeadLAP
Q4: I am diligent about getting out on campus and greeting kids with a smile. I am intentional about chatting with teachers, staff and being friendly and personable on a daily basis. I try not to show stress as much as I can. #Leadlap
A4: Character Virtues Lunch once a month. We try to nominate every single student so all are validated. Taft Tiger Tickets you hand out to anyone you see doing it “the Taft Way.” @PBIS training. And more!!! #leadlap
A4: Admin out front greeting students and parents each morning. Provide student leadership roles. We have a student birthday crew that sings, as well as, lead the Pledge of Allegiance. We just finished celebrating a "Positive Blackcat Week" that involved kindness acts. #leadlap
A4 I'm outside on the yard every morning talking to students and parents. My principal is out at the front of the school greeting all in the morning too. Great chance for welcoming and casual conversations 😀 #LEADlap
A4: So much begins with our language. We use student-first language for our Ss with complex needs. We use words that show our belief in a growth, not fixed, mindset for all. We speak from a strengths-based approach, not a deficit one. #leadlap
A4: positive referrals have been an important addition to our school wide practices. Kids love them and get so excited to receive the praise. When you praise two people feel better. Raise the Praise, Minimize the Criticize As @ToddWhitaker would say #LeadLAP
We do the same thing, but one assembly (happening next week) is based on diversity. Different groups do dances, songs, poems, etc to display the cultures we have in our school. Everyone attends. #leadLAP
A4: We intentionally build as many connections for kids as possible in formal (mentors, K-5 community groups, student-run all school meetings, buddy classes) and informal (we strive to learn every S's name and to greet everyone in the hallway, S greeters) ways. #LeadLAP
A4 - We do an Ice Cream/Fruit/Cookie social in May to keep the faculty and staff motivated. Also, superstaff each month that’s run by one of our teachers. Thank you notes that teachers share with each other. #leadlap
A3: I think we give mixed messages to our community. Safety policies clearly say "KEEP OUT", so I think it ups the challenge of convincing people to come in. Intentionally opening doors and inviting the community in is how we are tryng to bridge that. #LeadLAP

A4: We have created a culture of learning with not only the Ss but the Ts as well with PLCs, book studies, twitter chats, etc. We set goals in our PLCs and Ts set goals with their class and individual Ss. We celebrate successes in a big way showing hard work pays off! #LeadLAP
Some of our schools have kindness campaigns including whole-school read alouds. Our school division has promoted acts of kindness in all schools. #LeadLAP
A3: I think we give mixed messages to our community. Safety policies clearly say "KEEP OUT", so I think it ups the challenge of convincing people to come in. Intentionally opening doors and inviting the community in is how we are tryng to bridge that. #LeadLAP
A4: I make it a priority to greet Ss in the hallway between every class, even Ss I don't know yet, learning names, smiling big, and building relationships. Other Ts are following my lead. Ss also know that if they have a need, come see me and I"ll try to meet it. #LeadLAP
A4: We also have to always remember it’s about PEOPLE not programs. Gotta make things personal to what our Ss and staff need. One size definitely doesn’t fit all! #leadlap

A4 one thing I do my best to put into practice is talking to every adult and child I see. Far from perfect but I’m trying to slow down, be aware, smile, and ask “how are you?” because relationships matter more than anything else. #leadlap
True! We have community events that we always support and our student leadership team decides how we will do it. This is a fundraiser for the local hospital we support through a spirit day planned by the leadership team. #LeadLap
A4b: For teachers and staff, we try to do something nice for them every month, or like right now we’re doing a fun (competitive) game to boost staff morale this last 9 weeks: #LeadLAP
A4 Sense of belonging and knowing someone cares. Greeting Ss and Ps, asking how they are doing, focus on their abilities to make a difference in their lives. As an alt school, they don't always know even the smallest success. We change that! #LeadLAP
A4: Our school had a Kindness Challenge. A kickoff began with a kindness wall. I hung butcher paper and crayons on strings... and posed a few questions. Staff and Ss wrote and responded to each other... It was SO MUCH FUN! Reminded everyone how important "kind" is! :) #LeadLAP
Q4: I have taken part on posting to Instagram to promote our kids in a positive light. Digital citizenship has to be promoted. Too many our our junior high students use social media the wrong way. As @gcouros says, push the + so -no longer has a voice. #LEADlap
A5: Don't hyper-focus on test scores or schedule. Good teaching takes care of all of that. Also, I have learned to focus on the people instead of the process and program. Big change from when I was new #LeadLAP
A4 - We have Black/White night. It’s a 3 day school wide event that showcases all the different talents that kids have. Faculty are judges. Culminates on a Friday night in the gym with 1500-2000 people in attendance. Always remembered by our seniors as a highlight. #leadlap

A3: Using SeeSaw in my classroom is a great way for families to see student learning in real time. I used it for the first time this year and want to get better at it next. #LeadLAP
A3- I’m a first year VP and one if the most exciting events at our school was our parent engagement day. Parents got to come learn about resources and shadow their Ss. Creating the connection between parents/teachers/Ss is huge. Thanks to our principal @ChristinaFilios#LeadLAP
A4 My purpose (to serve my 250 edus)=Be REAL in all I do.
Relatable
Expose Vulnerability
Approachable
Learning through Life
I'm in schools, doing "Drive-Bys," loving on Edus&Ss, I even drove a bus this year. Talk about gaining empathy for our bus-professionals--Check! #leadlap
A5 I am no longer isolated. If I can’t find collaborators in my building, I find virtual ones. We have made powerful connections. I have also dropped the need to turn to worksheets and focus on deep and meaningful learning opportunities. Making an impact. #LeadLAP
A4: We have a staff champion and 4 Ss receive medals for going above and beyond our mission. Staff champ gets possession of legit Wrestling belt and prime parking for a month. #LeadLAP#CelebrateMarian

A5: No longer focus on covering X Y & Z content, as in specific stories or novels. The test my Ss take isn't over stories or novels, but over their ability to read, analyze, and make connections. THAT is the priority, not what we read, but that we CAN read and analyze. #LeadLAP
A5: I've learned that just because it's on Pinterest or TPT, doesn't mean it's good teaching. Everything must be looked at critically. "What's the Purpose?" #LeadLAP

Agreed! We have a Google Form linked to our "Leader Hub" making it easy for Ts to submit Positive Referrals. We get automatic email, bring them down to office, call home to brag on them. Wins all the way around! #LeadLAP
A5: I no longer isolate myself from my administration thinking they will look down on me if I ask for help.
I never thought that being a HS teacher, teaching non-AP classes, was all I wanted to do for the rest of my life. #leadlap
Q5: in my first 2 years I gave too much corrective feedback. I’ve always had strong relationships w Ss but they are even stronger now that I know better what to ignore and let go. I am able to get a little better at that every year. It truly is an art #LeadLAP
A4b: For teachers and staff, we try to do something nice for them every month, or like right now we’re doing a fun (competitive) game to boost staff morale this last 9 weeks: #LeadLAP
A5: one thing I no longer do is stress about ed eval 😊and one thing I never thought I’d do is enjoy helping our most challenged kids “fix” the problems they create and build their skills #LeadLAP
A3: A couple of years ago, my science kids started doing a chemistry cookoff. We decided to join in the literacy fair (rather than having a seperate night around the same time).
:) #LeadLAP
A4: Greeting students at the gate/door each day as they enter sends the most powerful message. You get a lot of bang for your buck just by letting Ss know you are glad they are there each day. #LeadLAP
A5 - Eat lunch with certain people. If somebody has something negative to say about a colleague or student, that energy is wasteful and serves no positve purpose. #leadlap
A5: I no longer sacrifice building community for covering curriculum. The students learn far more if they know you care about them more than a set of criteria to meet. #LeadLAP
A5b The thing I do now that I NEVER planned on doing is speak in front of large groups of educators. I can talk in front of kids with zero problem but adults are an entire different ballgame! #LEADlap
A5: I no longer do, because I know better: I never say “Me, Mine or My” unless I am saying, “The fault is mine, My mistake, please forgive Me.” Otherwise it is all about “Our, Us, We.” They aren’t “my” teachers or students or school. Our school, our teachers, etc. #LeadLAP
A5 I used to have kids move clothespins with their names on them, then it occurred to me how humiliated I’d be if I was asked to do the same at a faculty meeting, the practice stopped immediately. #LeadLAP
A5 I used to have kids move clothespins with their names on them, then it occurred to me how humiliated I’d be if I was asked to do the same at a faculty meeting, the practice stopped immediately. #LeadLAP
Me again! Ha, ha. One more thought because I know exactly what you mean. I feel if it is student-driven and planned rather than adults saying this is what we are going to do, it puts a different focus on it for me. #LeadLAP
A5 I no longer have prospective mentors fill out applications to mentor a student. Instead, I talk with them and make notes. I try to make every encounter personal.#LeadLAP
A5 I try find out WHY kids are not doing things they should. The reason for them not completing assignments is important. Then I offer other ways to support them. Maybe they don't have anyone to help them or access to tech etc. WHY is important! #LEADlap
A5: I no longer assume that kids go home to a home like mine was growing up. I now help make sure students have food, clothing, and shelter. When I became a teacher, that isn't something I thought I would do. #LeadLAP
Q5: I don’t over concern myself when I here complaining. Being a new administrator, in the beginning, I felt like I needed to fix all the issues that my team complained about. I’m learning to stay focused on our vision. #LeadLAP
A3: Yearly we have a canned food drive. Whole school participates in a celebration of "Passing of the Cans." Leading up to this event, we study families & homes world-wide and hunger issues worldwide. Food goes to local food banks #LeadLAP Peter Menzel
A5: I also never thought I would consider myself a learner alongside the kids. When I started I figured I was the one who HAD to have all the answers and that I could NOT learn anymore for fear of looking unprofessional. NOPE! #leadlap
A5 - Use technology like I currently do. Just didn’t think it would be as important as it has become. Meet kids where they are, not where you are. #leadlap
A5- Great Q! No More Blah first days of school.... Kicking off school the Pirate way from now on! Kids loved our dance party... Share more about myself- twirled my 'old' baton at the Talent Show! #LeadLAP
A5: I no longer get upset with my Ss when they’re misbehaving because of boredom. I feel like that’s ultimately my fault for not creating an engaging lesson. (I try to make sure every lesson has an engaging element to it! Movement, interaction, fun, critical thinking) #LeadLAP
A5 I used to have kids move clothespins with their names on them, then it occurred to me how humiliated I’d be if I was asked to do the same at a faculty meeting, the practice stopped immediately. #LeadLAP
A5: Rush into decisions without processing it with others. Because I’ve learned that they have a perspective too and might see my blind spots! #LeadLAP
A5: I guess I've never thought about any of these questions. I am now more open to students suggesting what we do as a project. Then, I mold their ideas to the standards. What they want to do makes the biggest difference. #LEADlap
Q5: I don’t over concern myself when I here complaining. Being a new administrator, in the beginning, I felt like I needed to fix all the issues that my team complained about. I’m learning to stay focused on our vision. #LeadLAP
A5: I no longer feel the need to be the omniscient Sage on the Stage. I have dropped the need to hold expert posture & the need to perform. The Ss & I gain confidence not only by what I know but also in my modeling what to do when I don’t know. I am vulnerable & real. #leadlap
A4- One of the things in place when I started this year was our teachers at their door shaking hands with Ss. What a great way to check in and see if Ss are ok. Our population of Ss are exposed to high trauma. That brief check in is so meaningful to Ss. #ourteachersrock#LeadLAP
A5 I've learned that some decisions need to marinade and some I need to just cannonball in!
I like to line everything out and try to make sense of it, but sometimes it just needs TIME. And, other times, I need to jump in and swim like a mad woman bc it's worth it!
#LEADlap
A5: When you are a PIRATE, there are destructive critics that don't always "get it." I've learned that if it helps our Ss, if it helps our staff, block out the haters! #LEADlap@JayBilly2@nbartley6

A6: "Trust is the oxygen of our school systems. You can't see it, hear it, touch it or feel it, but without it, you'll find yourself struggling to survive." #LeadLAP quote - This is everything. The kids, the families and the teachers must have trust
Beautifully said. I still get bitten by the performance bug (e.g., I do enjoy lectures from time to time) but it is not MY show anymore. It is THEIRS. #LeadLAP
A5. Totally & I agree. The same goes for end of chapter questions, and assignments I may have used last year. Constant reflecting on whether this task meets this purpose with THESE kids is vital. #leadlap
A5: I've learned that just because it's on Pinterest or TPT, doesn't mean it's good teaching. Everything must be looked at critically. "What's the Purpose?" #LeadLAP
A5: In the early days I tried to do it all myself! Can't move a team by pushing your ideas on them! I never thought I would do a Daddy/Daughter Dance. Man, I was wrong! Such a special event! #leadlap
Best way to do it! Our kids plan all of their own events. I tell them I was in HS once and it was awesome...their turn. They do great work when empowered to do it! #LeadLAP
A5 - I’d say the biggest change over the past 5-10 years has been just teaching diverse classes. Having truly mixed abilities has forced me to get out of my zone of comfort. Also, PBL experiments have been challenging but exciting. #leadlap
A5: I no longer sweat the small stuff and don’t let the “NO” people effect my mentality. Started an EdD this year that is challenging me more than ever #leadlap
A5: I no longer beat myself up over mistakes I've made. Learning can be messy & that's ok. I've learned you move on and learn from it. The thing I never thought I would do was be a principal. It's my 2nd year & sometimes I still wonder, "How did this happen?" #leadlap
A5: There is always a story and always a reason. Stop, slow down, and listen. Relationships are at the core of everything- cherish them. I used to feel rushed to get everything done perfectly. Taking time to reflect is key. #LEADlap

A5: Shatter those silos! I love the power of my #PLN & no longer feel like an island. The energy, inspiration, knowledge I gain from being a connected educator has been a game changer for me. #LeadLAP
A5 - Jay’s question about change is so important. If we as educators can’t reflect on our practice, both the great, good and average, then we are lessening the chance for all students to truly grow. #leadlap

A6: When teachers trust in their leader, they don't have to see the whole picture to jump in. That's powerful when it comes to making systematic changes for kids! #LeadLAP
A6 Building relationships is the key to school culture. When you build powerful connections with students, staff, parents & community, the limitless possibilities open up. When you lead with heart you can make anything happen. #LeadLAP
A5: I know better than to give students perspective too far ahead...Ss need something that will immediately affect them. I never thought I'd play video games to better understand Ss, but I do play and now I am more in-the-know about what my Ss interests & They see I care #LeadLAP
A6: Relationships have become everything. Trust is elevated. Decisions made have buy-in. It is the rising tide that lifts all boats. I couldn’t be the educator I am (or try to be) without a focus on relationships. #LeadLAP
A6: Our building understands that it is hard for learning to happen without building those all too important relationships first! We work very hard to build, and maintain those relationships with all students! #LeadLAP

A6: Once teachers felt comfortable and knew it wasn't a "gotcha" mentality, they became comfortable taking risks and asking questions that helped improve instruction #LeadLAP
Building positive trustful relationships is the secret sauce to our ultimate goal, student learning. When Ss, Ts, and parents/community are invested in a positive culture and trust is rock solid...there are no limit to what can be achieved. #LeadLAP
A6: relationships ARE the foundation of a good culture and a must to have a positive school and classroom culture. Trust, transparency, quality communication all can happen when relationships are in place #leadlap
A6 Everything starts with a strong relationship, but building them takes time. Reaching out and being intentional about listening and supporting people. #Leadlap
Agreed! If it's meant to stop you from fullfilling your purpose, it is what I call a "distraction." Call it as you see it and keep pressing forward. #leadlap
A5: When you are a PIRATE, there are destructive critics that don't always "get it." I've learned that if it helps our Ss, if it helps our staff, block out the haters! #LEADlap@JayBilly2@nbartley6
A5: I no longer talk as much (at least I’m trying) and now use more visuals. Both of these things allow more processing time for kids (and adults). I am grateful to our #SLP ’s who taught me so much about the importance of visuals. #Inclusion#LeadLAP
A6 Having strong relationships with staff, students and parents provides you with the support. Support by offering assistance planning, and implementing new ideas #LEADlap
A6: There was a negative vibe about 3 years ago. Instead of feeding it, I decided to work on relationships with all staff, one-on-one. I was intentional. And I care. I am only in charge of myself. Whether that helped others, I don’t know. But we have to walk the talk. #leadlap
A6: The relationships I've built in my classroom allow me to take all kinds of risks, & when I caution Ss that this may flop, they tell me Edison had flops before the light-bulb worked, so go for it! :) #LeadLAP
A4: One of our most precious school culture rituals is our Learning Celebrations at week's end. Each week, a class selects a thought for the week, does announcements ea morn & piques our interests. Fridays, they present their lrng. Powerful stuff happens here weekly! #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A6 I celebrated teacher successes with shout outs, pins, golden apples, golden dust pan awards, golden ruler awards, and red carpet treatments. Teachers learn to trust when leaders celebrate teachers....@JayBilly2

A5: Shatter those silos! I love the power of my #PLN & no longer feel like an island. The energy, inspiration, knowledge I gain from being a connected educator has been a game changer for me. #LeadLAP
A5 Micromanage: we need to meet goals but we don’t want to stifle the creativity and innovation of the people we are managing by making it seem there is only one way to find success #leadlap
A5- I no longer talk to a student around other Ss when they’ve done something wrong. Once away from others they are so much more receptive/respectful to what is being said. I never thought I’d always say “are you ok?” I’ve found that those 3 words are huge with our Ss. #LeadLAP
A5 No longer do something because it has always been done. I simplify a process, stop meaningless practices, ensure what we monitor or do has a relevant purpose. Never imagined doing: explaining to parents why their child needs to be in school. #LeadLAP
A7: We celebrate our diversity with heritage festivals and multicultural dinners. We make sure that we recognize all cultures and religions and do our best to educate our kids and our staff #LeadLAP
A6) Realationships are SO important in teaching. Not only among colleagues, but with students and families as well. Take every chance you can get to build a more positive relationship with students, parents, and/or colleagues! #LeadLAP
A6: Relationships are the foundation. Culture literally can't be built without them. Risks are taken, questions asked, and honesty is shared when you trust each other. #LeadLAP
A6 When Ts feel valued and respected they’re more likely to take risk and try new ideas. If you have a climate of competition and judgement risk taking won’t happen #LEADlap
A6. Building relationships through building trust is essential in getting things done for kids. When you have trust you speed up change. Covey wrote a great book. The speed of trust. #leadlap
A6: We are a Leader-Leader culture only because we put relationships first. I believe in my staff & I make it a point to tell them this often. My actions match my words when I listen to them, ask "How can I help?", empower them to be a leader. Exponential impact. #LeadLAP
Absolutely! You always have to look critically. Success is not by accident, it is very intentional. You have to look at every lesson/intervention as it applies to your population and Ss' individual needs. It has to come from you. #leadlap
A6: It means that true collaboration can happen -- where neither party is afraid of being shown up or offended by what the other says and does. Also, it means people who are already leaders can help create more leaders! #leadlap
A6 Getting to know the edus I serve has been HUGE.
I tailor the dist PD to meet their needs, I talk them all of the time during Drive-Bys, via @flipgrid meetings, visit my coaches regularly on their turf.
Getting in their world, LISTENING & meeting their needs =KEY! #leadlap
Q6: relationships are everything. The end. Without them no significant learning can occur. We have a morning meeting every day where Ss share concerns and celebrations and give shoutouts. We also have this saying we do each morning, inspired by the great Rita Pierson #LeadLAP
A6 - It’s still always a work in progress, but more teachers are involved in promoting strong bonds with students and their colleagues. Building relationships comes down to modeling those behaviors, words and actions that inspire others to follow. #leadlap
A7: We meet in the gym every morning before going to classrooms. Birthdays are projected on the screen and each child receives a postcard from the principal. Academic awards and certificates are also shared in the same way. #LeadLAP

A7 I make my classroom about celebration. From holiday cards, to birthday celebrations to lessons done with meals. We have breakfast discussions, lunch presentations/talks, handwritten notes, emails. It is all about highlighting and uplifting the amazing work from kids. #LeadLAP
A6: Relationships are the base of everything we do in school and key to the success of any program. We have a mentoring program where at -risk students are matched with staff members. Almost all staff members are involved and the kids love it!#leadlap

For my classroom - It was my students knowing that I cared about them even beyond their time in my class. It’s making the effort to do a home visit to the student who has been absent for weeks or helping prep college essays on my time #leadlap
A6: People will move mountains when there is trust and an established relationship. Relationships have done just that. Teachers, parents, and students are all moving mountains for the right reason.! #LeadLAP
A6- I'm all about Relationships- Work hard with Ts, want them to feel SAFE to take risks, try something new, bring the adventure. I model and support them however I can... #LeadLAP
Ropes course team building, Hibatchi dinner out, talent show, volley ball game! Bring the Fun
Q6: Building relationships has become my top priority. I ignore my phone and my emails and just spend the whole day talking and listening to the people in my building. #leadlap
Q6: For my team, building relationships has been critical. I’m the newcomer so I’ve had to earn trust. I’ve been open and honest and willing to say I don’t have the answers. The atmosphere in my area has made a huge shift since day 1. #LeadLAP
A6: it has been the game changer. School is safe in every meaning of the word—physically & emotionally safe & safe to risk (& fail)! Test results soared. Innovation is up. The deeply meaningful convos I have w/ kids in & out of class are unprecedented. #leadlap
A6: This year we are a “new” school made up of staffs from about 8 other schools in our district. So building relationships and trust has been a big focus. And we hear a lot of good things about our school culture, so that’s super motivating! #LeadLAP
But could it be that negative people are speaking the truth, just in a way that is neither helpful nor empowering? We can't simply focus on what we want to hear all the time, can we? #LeadLAP

A5: I know better than to take things personally! There is a lot of judgement involved when you are an admin but the students and staff are what matters!! #LeadLAP
No one gets unanimous praise. Criticism comes to those who stand out. Be remarkable. Learned this from @ThisIsSethsBlog & my #KYGoDigital tribe. A PIRATE leader gets this & stands w courage even when the critics come out. Bc they will. #LeadLAP

A6. It's building relationships first! Finding out what interests your Ss have and building their interests into the lessons. Differentiating learning according to their specific needs! Seeing Ss smile! #leadlap
A6: it has helped me understand that I shouldn’t focus on what Ss can’t do in my class at the time, but on their personality and passions. Ss have had improved behaviors towards each other and have worked well with Ss they wouldn’t normally b/c they respect differences. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A handwritten note and a personal card mailed home, along with a weekend phone call to a parent/guardian, have infinite benefits and promotes your vision for excellence! @JayBilly2
Q7: I post videos of students on our lobby tv. Sometimes, it includes staff. Student work is posted outside the classroom in the hallway. I congratulate students and staff in person for accomplishments. #LEADlap
A6b: I’m an Instructional Coach this year and have “left” the classroom. I was always good at building relationships with students. Sadly, I never realized how important building relationships with colleagues was until I left the four walls of my classroom! WOW. #LeadLAP
A5: Push in SEL interventions. I'm expanding upon these initiatives. While they're more work for me, there's SO much better carryover of skills as compared to pull-out! Ts, Ss, peers involved. Ss even go home & talk w/their P's about it. A win-win all around! #LeadLAP
A7: The Positive Referrals @BethHouf mentioned we do for everyone staff, students, families, community members. We shout those out at staff meetings and on the announcements. #LeadLAP

#leadlap I hear a negative person, and I think: this is a person who might not have had a platform to make change. Can I help?
This is no different than the S who acts out or doesn't engage in class the way would prefer. Avoiding that S is not the solution.

A7) Our school gives student shoutouts each day to celebrate student accomplishments. In addition, teachers and students have very positive relationships that allow us to celebrate student success in our classrooms #LeadLAP
A7: We have TVs in our school that display our Twitter hashtag & also a collaborative G Slide show. ALL staff have edit access & put shoutouts & pics on their to celebrate our Ss & each other. #LeadLAP
A7: Something I started to do was to announce the kids who were getting the highest grades they had ever gotten in a social studies class, without actually revealing what those grades were. Got everyone celebrating success! #leadlap
#LeadLAP A7 grade level students of the month, along with the teachers of the month, still have a powerful effect...old school ideas still have merit. @JayBilly2
A7: In addition to recognizing Ss @ the end of the year for academic success & participation in extracurriculars, we celebrate throughout the year at Star of the Month Breakfasts for many reasons including modeling our core values. We celebrate Ts success @ Faculty Mtgs #LeadLAP
A6 Relationships are the foundation! W/Ss, safety, belonging, and a sense of purpose = stronger achievement. W/Ts, less fear, complaining, and more willingness to do better for Ss. Leads to more joy all around. #LeadLAP
The most successful schools I’ve seen are where peers celebrating each other is ingrained in the culture. Nothing is more rewarding than having other teachers recognize each other’s hard work with a pay it forward mentality #leadlap
A7 I like celebrating their awesomeness via Anchors of Appreciation (thanks, @BethHouf & @burgess_shelley) tweeting pics of the amazing work they are doing, #LEADlap books as gifts, highlighting them in dist newsletters, etc.
A7: Before every staff meeting can start or end, depending on our forgetfulnessthat day, Ts will shout out gratitude to a colleague and explain. And we do five shout-outs. Typically we have 5 little gifts that are then given in recognition. #leadlap
A6- School culture is built on trust. Trust with students and trust with staff. This is my first year at this site and it’s taken half a year to build. Nothing can happen until that is in place. Now I feel we can all do great things together. I love our staff/students. #LeadLAP
A6: Relationships strengthen trust and foster a willingness to take risks for staff and students alike. Strong relationships empower. I observed an awesome lesson yesterday in which a teacher took huge risks. The Ss loved it and were completely engaged.

A7: Someone always starts an email with shoutouts at the end of each week. It has become a tradition that gets me excited to check email! Our superintendent even jumps in at times! #LeadLAP
A6: Building relationships has helped improve confidence, comfortability, engagement, risk-taking, & overall cheerfulness from T to T, T to S, or S to S. Relationships fuel positivity and learning #LeadLAP
A7 We need more celebrations! Mainly online alt school w/some onsite. We have graduation twice a year, we celebrate the successes (higher score, moving up a grade, etc.) in small groups and with individuals. We can do this better. #LeadLAP
A7: We have cross grade buddies. One of the things our buddies did as a celebration was "color the wall"... they have a great time as they INSPIRE each other everyday! This was a time they could chat as they made the world a more colorful place! #LeadLAP
A7. We celebrate Ss who stand out in the classroom as "Ss of the month." We celebrate accomplishments in reading levels, and math. We also celebrate with our SOAR awards with medals for Prof, etc. in subj. red carpet event! "#leadlap
A8 my biggest takeaway is to share my ideas and reflections with my PLN. Alone we can have good ideas. Together we can break boundaries. So many amazing ideas today. Tie them to our mission/vision, share and execute. Celebrate together. #LeadLAP
A7: Definitely need to get better at this. I try to give a lot of personal affirmation and have been giving out cards to parents about S successes, but I know there’s so much more I could be doing! #LeadLAP
