The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Chad from NJ. I’m usually not fully awake as I’m typically one to be up late at night (need my sleep) but I’m enjoying my morning with my 4 week old newborn and have always enjoyed this groups early morning tweets, might be up your alley @jenhackettslimm@annalisa_rodano#BFC530
Well you have to hope that both benefit. When ever we go to PD we must submit a summary of how we will use our new knowledge in our work. And the district pays for most requests:)

Who should benefit from credentials? The credential holder only, students only, or both?

Both should benefit. When staff attend pd, they did implement what was beneficial to help their Ss. We also have them share at faculty meetings & our Teams page, hopefully benefiting other staff. #bfc530
We dont do the elf, my youngest was afraid of him. Caught her one day opening up the boxes of Elf on a Shelf in a store, asked what she was doing. "Touching them so they dont come to life" #bfc530
Have a fantastic day supporting and loving your kids today, friends! I can’t really offer anything in answer to today’s question. Elliptical time, as the ground is too icy outside for a run. #bfc530
If by credentials we are referring to professional learning, then it should benefit students first. That’s the whole purpose of PD, right? To continually improve so that we can help our students. #bfc530
Are we characterizing credentials as degrees, certifications, ambassador statuses, etc? There are differences between a masters degree, supervisor certificate, or Google Educator or SeeSaw ambassador. I agree that any of the examples should be inclusive to who benefits #BFC530

Its about two hours from Washington DC. The owner has about 50 alpacas. We usually visit a couple times each year and stay the weekend. Great to see my kids doing chores on the farm! #bfc530
The students first. You can have all the credentials you want, but if your students don't benefit or grow; what good does it do? As they say... "Just because it sits in a garage doesn't automatically make it a car". #bfc530

Both Ss and T should benefit, otherwise what's the point? We should always be looking for ways to grow and engage Ss. Good PD gets us there. But as many of us know, it's not always paid PD. Some of our best learning comes right here from Twitter. #bfc530
When it comes to credentials, no one benefits unless they are actively used. You can have lots of letters or certificates after your name, but unless you use that learning to benefit your students or community, they are worthless. #bfc530
We all have to be constant learners both educators and students. All the credentials are meaningless unless you keep learning. Our Learning Pages https://t.co/MFlrDcEYdB#bfc530
I don’t want to be rated/ranked by my credentials but rather by the content of my words ... I don’t pursue many credentials but I dare say I know more than man credentialed people #bfc530

Dear Principal,
If this happens at your school, you and your teachers must have a serious talk about your #homework policy. Please start by sharing this powerful post from administrator @KFelicello.

Why do #microcredentials matter to you as an educator? When you want to prove that you are competent in a skill, hard copy certificates just can’t beat digital badges. Explore more: https://t.co/8DGailzu0P

Credentials -- traditional and microcredentials -- benefit provider, holder, community of learners by validating the track of learning. Ss can say: I got it from a #certified educator-trainer-instructor #bfc530
Good morning #bfc530. Everyone should benefit from credentials. The training, experiences, and knowledge gained during the process should be used to make teaching and learning better thus benefiting all.
Morning everyone! I think the whole point of credentials is the learning behind them! If we don’t put that to use and reflect and grow our practice, what’s the point? #bfc530

One thing I will not do is pursue a credential in order to receive a certificate. It needs to be purposeful for me and beneficial for my students. Anything else is a waste of time. #bfc530

If the question means teaching license, I have a beef with people who get admin jobs before they have a license. There are plenty of certified folks paying student loans for degrees they can’t use #bfc530

Our elf doesn’t make an appearance till December 1st. And then is only hear for 16 days because Santa comes early to our house because we aren’t home Christmas morning. #ParentingWin? #bfc530
I've met enough "MA in Ed." recepients to know that edu. credentials are questionable at best. Credentials are still in the 'signaling' quality of output signaling that someone can complete a program. No more. #bfc530
Hey #bfc530, many of you know that I sit on the Board for @ablfk_ghana & went to Ghana last spring. I’m raising money for medical clinics that we are hosting in January for #GivingTuesday and need a little more help getting to my goal: https://t.co/Y2mYKTOrFV Donate, RT, TY!

We live in a time where too many are chasing those credentials ... ambassadorships ... building our brand ... which is good but should it be our goal? #bfc530
The thing about #bfc530 that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe.
Totally agree. The PD I have received from my PLN has made me a better student, teacher, admin and person. Sharing with others what I have learned on Twitter has been amazing and I am looking forward to thing yet to come! #bfc530
I would hope both. Students should benefit from greater expertise. The credential holder should be rewarded by the district and held in high esteem. How can we expect our kids to exceed expectations if we don't do so ourselves? #bfc530

Credentials should not be the only way to benefit anyone. The relationships and new knowledge developed through collaboration benefits all stakeholders in education. I have learnt more from my PLN than any credentials I have. #bfc530
Today I'm really #grateful to be co-teaching with one of our teachers. I love having the opportunity to push into a classroom and work with kids and help one of our teachers at the same time. Today we are #Blogging#leadership#bfc530
Yes. Going back to @simonsinek statement about starting with yiur "WHY". For me my why was always to provide a place where students can be at their full potential and be successful. Their success! #bfc530

Credentials, as a term, feels like a technicality or requirement for securing a position.
But in regards to professional development and growth, I want to be better so that I can be better for my students.
Short answer: both.
#bfc530
I agree Andrew. My hope is that our Ts have the credential, and a true heart, to be the best teacher they know how to be. That way everyone benefits. #bfc530

I agree with @Gregbagby. Let the success of our degrees, certifications, ambassadorships, badges, awards, and titles, ultimately be measured by how they transfer, and to what extent they enrich student learning experiences and overall growth. #bfc530#tnedchat

Coming January 4th 2019 my new single, "Missing You." This song I wrote is dedicated to my mom who lost her battle with colon cancer this year. May this be a anthem song to many who lost someone they love. Pre-order on Amazon https://t.co/vBRncVljgs
Staying connected has allowed me to find fellow educators that are passionate and excited about teaching (I call them my people!). It has changed the way I teach, literally. Now I connect with educators all over, daily. It's so powerful!! #Read2Lead#bfc530#pln365
