We're back from break and ready for a New Year, new ideas, and new friends! Join us Wednesday night for a fun and inspiring chat! #TXed See you at 8:30 pm! (Central)
Hey #txed ! Kimberly, K-5 Reading specialist from north TX. Glad I can participate in a chat even when I am not feeling well! Sometimes it's good not to be F2F.
Relaxed and recharged. Disconnected for a while and spent lots of time with family. Knowing I've taken care of them, helps me take care of my campus. #txed
A1: Over the break I intentionally took some time off to rewind. I read lots of books...and may or may not have gotten a small planner just to keep track of the amazing Twitter chat schedule cuz you guys lift me up (& also to keep track of my new blog) #txed
A1: I spent some quality time with family and went on a digital diet. I feel like I soaked up some great real-life interactions to get things in balance #txed
A1- I spent a lot of my break traveling and organizing my apartment. I needed that time to relax and unwind! I caught up with a few book studies too. #TXed
#txed A1 I made a #Believe museum at my house as part of my lighting display. Ss loved it! Lots of visitors! Do whatever it takes to BUILD THE RELATIONSHIPS!
So important! I'm thinking of bringing back Wonderful Wednesdays where I leave after the students and just focus on me and my family that day w/ some extra time. Leave staying late to Mon, Tues, & Thurs. #TXed
You use cardboard boxes, recyclable/repurposed items to build arcade games! We are doing it with our students in April and i wanted my staff to experience it first hand! #txed#cardboardchallenge
A2: I stopped making resolutions cuz they're a shot in the dark FOR ME (not for everyone) and instead I make 3 monthly goals, use my planner for 3 daily goals, and cont. on my path. #txed
Q2 The biggest difference for me is that goals are attainable. Resolutions are those things I gave up on years ago. Goals keep me focused and moving forward. So important! #txed
Q2: Resolutions usually are attempts to break bad habits and we all know how well that works. I think it's better to set goals and work toward them. #positivity#TxEd
Resolution:1. a firm decision to do or not to do something. 2. the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter. Based on the definitions, we should focus on goals. Goals allow us to make adjustments more easily. And that's what schools constantly have to do. #txed
A2: Goals. Nothing wrong with resolutions except the fact they're typically made January 1st & forgotten by February 1st. Goals have steps and measuring points. #txed
A2: I “focus” on what’s the gr8est got my Ss.
To lil ol me...A resolution is something that has changed or adapted. A goal is something that I’m aiming for - with an action plan. #TXed
A2 goals...especially SMART goals that have a plan and trajectory. I opted out of resolutions this year with the intent of working to improve myself and life each day, big or small. #txed
A2: I think it depends on the person. Whatever you choose, it needs to be something you will stick with, continuously reflect on, and something that will help you grow. #txed
A2: I have always thought resolutions are goals without a plan. Recently I heard the thought that resolutions looks backward to something that needs to be resolved and goals look forward to a vision for the future. #ilikeit#txed
A2 I heard a great question this morning… Resolutions and goals are great, but what's your plan to get there? You need to plan to succeed. How are you going to get it done? How and why require the most commitment. #TXed
Q2: Resolutions usually are attempts to break bad habits and we all know how well that works. I think it's better to set goals and work toward them. #positivity#TxEd
A3: One professional goal is to - build on my responsibilities for planning meetings. Having 6 a week I don't always feel I'm prepared or focused as I should be in order to assist the teachers as much as they need. #txed
A3-Really want to slowly start taking steps toward a #PLC environment. Also want to find ways to help teachers use tech to have students create things. #TXed
A3- As an instructional coach I want to train teachers in number talks and see them start using them in their classrooms. It was mentioned in @VisibleLearning and I love how it supports flexible thinking! #TXed
A3 I am committed to taking my own advice. I am a visionary and love to help others problem solve. It’s time I do that for me and my students! We’re Learning/Creating/Achieving in rotations now and loving it!! #txed
Really want to help my staff get down to basics and best practices that help ALL students. It's hard work to be amazingly good for all kids. But our accountability system requires us to do so. Primary focus is to be Master Reading teachers. #txed#neisdpln
A3: my professional goal is short/sighted for me: want to finish the school year strong. Since my mom has no more than 6 to 8 mos, my extras can wait. #TXed
A3: Using our universal screener to help guide our teachers with their small group instruction and intervention. This program can be a game changer in how we approach small group instruction
#txed
What medium do you use to blog? Google sites, word press, Wix? I think if you start off with once a month, that is a reasonable goal. I'd love to do once a week...can be a challenge!
#txed
I love this. I can't imagine what this must be like outside an elementary context with so many students. As an elementary educator, I'd like to get know something non-academic about each of the parents I work with. #txed
I’ve been on Twitter for a little over four years. It’s change my life for the better and@made@me feel more connected. I’ve gained friends and new edu colleagues. It’s a powerful network. #txed
A4 Getting my Ss to set a reading goal. They are choosing a certain # of books to read each month and we will revisit their goals at the end of the month. #txed
A4: We are really working to learn how to meet the needs of ALL our students through differentiation, PBIS, targeted intervention, looking at data and using it to drive decisions, and reflecting on our practices to make changes where needed. #txed
#TXed A4 To continue to build our primary source speakers list for our SS classes. Began with our 1980s class 4 years ago. We continue to engage our Ss with the makers of history.
A4: I have the privilege of helping/telling my school's story on Twitter & Facebook. My goal for the school is to start having more student voice on our pages. Finding students who are motivated by sharing/teaching others on our channels/pages. #txed
Been reflecting the past few days on my young career in education. Just wanted to say thank you to all who have been involved in my life. I have been lucky to have worked with great educators and awesome kids. Y’all are the reason I can’t get enough. #learningisfun#txed
I've really developed a liking for Google Sites (the new version). If formatting and technical issues are getting in the way of creating a blog, Google Sites will help with that. (Just a suggestion). #txed
#TXed A4 To continue to take our Ss around the world: learn geography skills and culture through Mystery Skypes and Hangouts. Went to Russia, Sweden and Canada last semester. Heading to Israel soon.
A4 My goal that started at the beginning of this school year was to teach my students how to write SMART goals and work toward and reflect on them weekly. (Which means some weeks they are rewriting the same goal they are still working on.) I want to keep it up!#txed

I'm definitely following you then! I want to increase gamification in our classrooms that struggle w/ behavior. I'm hoping that by adding really engaging content practice that we'll meet their kinesthetic and vocal personalities and needs 😎 #txed
A2- I think it’s a personal choice. Like the difference between an iPad Pro & a Surface Pro 4...what works better for you?? What resonates with the way you work/live/function/etc.? There’s no wrong answer. #txed
#txed A4 I write down my Ss STAAR scores by their names on my gradesheets. Each time I enter grades I notice last years score. IMPROVE YOUR STUDENTS should be a major goal! My best success story, and 8th grader went from a 7th gr score of 38 to an 8th gr score of 86!
I am putting together a Google Site for #txed too...if I can ever find time to get it off the ground. I like wordpress...just cannot find time to get going. #txed
Jumping in a little late! Was on the phone with my boyfriend who is in Minnesota for Staff Sgt. school, he's just a little cold..lol Kendre Milburn 5th grade Science and Social Studies T @CyFairISD#TXED
A3- My biggest goal is to return to my first loves — presenting & writing. So I’ll be hitting the circuit at every opportunity & submitting articles & guest blog spots everywhere. This year is about personal professional growth & pushing my own boundaries #txed
I started with Blogger for a lot of teachers. I liked the simpicity, but wanted a bit more for what I was doing. the technical side isn't my issue. Time and motivation are the problem. #txed

I'm in Google sites as well for a different project. It does make things easier, but I like a little more control over what I am doing. Maybe I just need more time with Sites. #txed
A5: Still learning the needs of my new community, district students, stakeholders, and staff while also still learning my new role. #wouldnthaveita nyotherway #txed
A5- I'm new to my position this year. I'm at the point of the year where I wish I could start over knowing everything I've learned so far. I just need to continue to work on this year while making a list of things to do to prepare for next year. #TXed
Q5 Keeping up with what I'm doing in the classroom w blended learning and tech. I want to make sure I'm keeping my Ss are actively engaged! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with planning by myself. #txed
Exit tickets, ELL practice, summarizing, teacher introductions at the beginning of the year (my favorite idea that @pinkpatterson used), explaining processes in math... #txed
#txed A5 This will be the 1st summer THIS CENTURY that I will stay in TX over the summer. Since 1999 I have been in PA as a summer camp photographer of @campcayuga = #JacketsInJuly Hopefully I won't melt away.
Joining late- A5- I’m not sure i would say challenge, but one of the things I’m working on is how to incorporate more learner voice into my actions as a school leader. Met with some seniors today who had great ideas around school issues. #TXed
If access and tech isn't an issue, then I'd say use the platform that you're most comfortable with. If you think that once a month is manageable, then make that your goal. And remember, you're only human. A goal is a target...if you did 10/12, that would be awesome! #txed
A5: My biggest challenge is: BALANCE - I want to stay student-focused, keep a growth mindset, build literacy, engagement and technology usage, support teachers, a useful instructional leader, and a #leadlap sense of FUN but ... I'm human and some days I'm out of time #txed
A5 This school year has been such a rollercoaster since Harvey. Keeping the students motivated to finish out strong and confident. Remembering to recharge, so I too have the stamina to make it to the end better and stronger than when we started. #txed

A6- My word is EMPOWER. I want to find the strengths of the staff members and students I work with and find ways to encourage their abilities to be used! #TXed
Good question! Ideally, think in terms of how students will use skill sets later in life learned in class and plan projects based on reverse engineering from that #txed
Hey #txed folks! don't forget to check out @EdChangeGlobal coming up this summer! We would love for you all to join us for 24 hours of free #globallearning and #collaboration in your pjs! Looking forward to our 4th summer event this year on July 20th! Check out @EdChangeGlobal!
A6: one word doesn’t fit my journey right now (I blogged about it- not a dislike, just more limiting for what I’m trying to accomplish) #TXEDhttps://t.co/b5Xr3bhrxY
A5: TIME...which is always a struggle. There are so many great things happening at our campus. There are new programs, materials, etc. we now have that we need to continue to learn and utilize to help us become even better! #TXed
#TXed A4 Also fortunate to have speakers live in school. Brad Long, Buddy from the movie Hoosiers and Mr Philo Barnhart, Former Disney Animator who created Ariel from The Little Mermaid. We believe strongly in primary source education.
A6- great question!! I don’t have #oneword yet. But my ‘6 word story’ is —> we take risks, I take blame. Hoping to give my team space to think outside/act outside/destroy the box, while I cover them and take the heat so we can breed innovation #txed
I just gave up and jumped to the end...couldn't keep up tonight. I will go back later. Great chat everyone! Don't forget to give your new friends a follow. See you next week! #txed
Q2: Great question. I think they are similar but a resolution is more of a change like I want to get healthier as opposed to a goal of losing 20 lbs. Both are good but I think a true resolution would lead to lasting change. #txed
