Welcome to . Topic: What are the best ways to promote the positive things happening in schools?
Looking to do a tomorrow at 2pm eastern time. 5th grade. Anyone want to help us out?! :)
I'm at a pd event tomorrow so it won't work, maybe another time.
We don’t do as much as we should. We tweet info, post to sch website, send messages via SIS, etc.
We spread the good news through a weekly newsletter. And you?
What was the focus of your PD?
Why do you think more is needed?

Welcome to . Topic: What are the best ways to promote the positive things happening in schools?
I think schools should use social media to promote the positive things happening
encourage students to say kind things to one another
we also have a newsletter. I used to doubt that it was read, but this year, Ps are mentioning in conversation. It works.
Less than two days away! How will you and your students explain ? … https://t.co/BinVhDG8dk
Reminder that Thursday is ! Let's start thinking of 📝🤔
There are so many other avenues we haven’t explored. We’re lucky, tho, that we aren’t fighting to change perceptions.
That's terrific. Do you write it alone, w/other teachers, w/students?
My name is Margaret LaGrand and I am a pre-service educator studying at Grove City College. I'm excited to participate in this chat!
Like any aspect of school life, there's a good balance to be had.
Some Ts also send home newsletters. Each grade level does it differently. My son's class has it digitally only
We use and have a "class" for news and events and Ps, Ss and Ts access.
The best way to share good news is to have childern contribute.
Mostly through school announcements and maybe school websites. Social media would definitely be a great resource.
Our students run a broadcasting studio & stream a daily news show,, but it’s mostly announcements.
Hi everyone! I am a pre-service Spanish ed major and I'm so excited to be apart of this chat!
We typically send ours out digitally too.
agree. I also think that Ts on social media can be great rep for school
I think that the app seesaw is an awesome way to display student's work and show the great things happening in schools.

Everyone is talking about the good, but there's also negatives to using social media, as teachers have you guys ran across this?
Unfortunately, some Ts are not great reps for school on social media. Some forget many eyes see what post
here we use the Knightly News! We broadcast every Friday during HR!
Students seem to love that.
That sounds amazing! I agree, adding the students would be a great piece, as well. Buy-in from all parties is huge.
Just mentioned this. Some Ts forget that parents, students see posts on social media
Most tools have a good & bad side. Digital citizenship skills are important for adults & students.
a great teaching opportunity for admin. Also need a clear media policy for our Ts.
How might we congeal uxorious ennui in the next decade?
No kidding. Can’t count how many times I’ve thought, “WHAT were they THINKING?!?!?”
I think the best way to promote positive things in schools is by a student run social media page! It keeps everyone is involved!
Our school has its own FB, twitter, Pinterest etc. It showcases the good. Problem is Ts personal accounts

Many of our Ts live in the area and are friends with Ps of Ss. Not a problem, but some don't have enough discretion
it was for me too! I went paperless. Two years and no paper with 11/12 grade English!
What is the best way to communicate with your students using technology?
Would a bulletin board be better for younger students? They could still share pictures and events!
True; it could be possible to have the students write it out and then feature it on the social media page
I think we will see more of this. If indiscreet on social media, can you be entrusted with S confidentiality?
That's a great idea--also help them relay the stores of positive events.
our SGA run their own FB, twitter, Insta, etc. They are awesome reps for our school
What do you think Margaret? Their age matters here.
like seriously ... we are supposed to be professionals ...
it's one SM that we don't use. Maybe we are missing out?
Key words: “supposed to be.” Sometimes my mind is boggled.
That would work better. How to select, though? We have 1200 Ss.
we need for education for our Ts about social media
how can we as teachers get the students engaged with what we are teaching them?

Over the wknd, saw the use of short podcasting as a way to showcase student work & happenings.
I'm excited about it. Great for showcasing the program, but also hoping to help with student recruitment.
we also highlight awesome activities Ts and Ss are developing in our broadcast.
ah! The power of word of mouth! do we forget this? :)
