It was great to see so many at yesterday's National Board candidate meeting!
Hey all! I’m Kristin, I work in Counseling. I did a family blog once, and then a professor (who I don’t know at all) dug it up and used it against my career this fast Fall. So yeah No-not doing that. #OklaEd

For me it is an avenue for podcasting. Through my blog I have an RSS feed to podcast but also I'm able to share additional resources from topics in the podcast #oklaed
Blogging is sharing one's thoughts or research on a web based format that can include text, media and links. Often on sites like wordpress, blogger, etc.. #oklaed

I Get it, not that you would not always be motivating and informative but the level of expertise you were able to communicate in a time when the future of #oklaed was so bleak... I have a feeling you would find the time again if we were back in those bleak days...
For those that don't know an RSS feed is a way that you can follow blogs and podcasts that automatically alerts you to a new post. #oklaedhttps://t.co/2aqDidO5eE

Blogging is a way for educators to share their journeys with one another, and, in some cases, help earn a living from the expertise they gather over the years. #oklaed
Kim, I teach 4th grade for Norman Public Schools. I will be in and out as I am preparing for my Candidate forum tomorrow night. Oh I'm running for City Council for Ward 7 in Norman. #Oklaed
Again, mine is focused on podcasting but I also love reading blogs for information and to find out more information about what educators are doing. #oklaed

I like to use my blog as a tool to compile resources. If I see current events, news articles, books, podcasts, films, etc. that I want to keep all in one place (plus add commentary) I use my blog to keep tract of them, my most recent one was on the Tulsa Race Massacre #oklaed
I first started blogging as a stay at home mom...a good friend suggested it to keep my writing sharp and keep up with technology...it was great advise! #oklaed
Blogging is interesting- it can be to share info, to vent, to educate, to share with a specific group, to share with the world. No matter how it's used, it allows a person's voice to be broadcast on the net. #oklaed
I personally think blogging is just like an online public journal. It's a great way to share your knowledge or opinions with others. Purposes could include sharing your interests with others, providing resources or ideas to others, as well as just connecting with others #OklaEd

Truth! This rule breaker @TeachFromHere is setting all of the educators on here in a frenzy with a non-formatted #oklaed chat. What is this? An EdCamp version of an EdChat?
People often ask me if my blog/podcast is focused on early childhood (because that's my focus area of education) but it's not! I talk to people from all areas of education about curriculum and teaching strategies #oklaed
I've never blogged, but I guess is just to share with the world what you think that can be interesting/useful for other people creating like this your own webpage. #Oklaed
It can be utilized to share information, one could have that be the focus and the blog become corroboration where many can input and make it used across the spectrum of the curriculum. #oklaed
I don't personally blog, but blogs to me have been helpful in finding ideas about activities and lessons for assignments I have had to do in school. #OklaEd
Because Twitter limits us on characters? LOL jk but Blogging is like having your own personal virtual space where you release it all, and reflect and leave it there until next time. #Oklaed
Reading #oklaed blogs and nationally known education blogs helped me figure out who I am (and am not!) as an educator. Writing blogs help me solve writing problems. Mom blogs have helped me be a better mother.

I don’t blog, I feel like who cares what I have to say or my opinion on things. I don’t write it down I just say it. Does that make me an oral blogger? 🤣🤣🤣#oklaed
The last time I added to my blog was during the #MeTOO and I haven't been back since. That was a hard one to write, but I'm so glad I did, and had the courage to share it. #Oklaed

As a HS student, I would have been terrified to write a blog post! I wasn’t the best with grammar (still not) 😅 and would have been self conscious. #oklaEd maybe if it was a group blog or an anonymous/private blog?

I focus on #edtech in my blog...which is applicable to EVERY curriculum. I also enjoy reading blog posts from @jmattmiller, @ericcurts, and others #oklaed
Blogging topics or themes could be used by all teachers in a particular grade level or across an entire grade level w particular guidelines for each subject area. #OklaEd
This week, a few of my seniors will start The Spark podcast for the class and our school. It will showcase across the curriculum ideas, such as what is happening in @DewinterAmber’s STEM class. We will have a podcast and a blog. #oklaed
I think the purpose and definition of blogging is evolving. I am trying to find a new purpose in mine and how I can really help people. I know I have little time to read them. #oklaed
students at @UofOklahoma can use OU Create. It is wordpress but they offer a free place to store and a way to move it upon leaving. #oklaed@JohnStewartPhD
Hello, my name is Angie Apauty. This is my first time experiencing Twitter. I created my account earlier today and I trying to figure this out as fast as I can.
As a future high school English teacher I am always curious how to incorporate technology in a world of books and essays! Does anyone have suggestions for how blogging could be used? #oklaed
Writing forces you to think critically about your topic. Blogging takes that process to the next level because you have an authentic audience, as well. This process can help you figure out what you actually think and how you feel. It can provide reality checks... #oklaed
You've gotta just do it. Don't worry about number of readers, listeners or viewers, number of shares on @socialmedia, number of followers, nothing! The only way to get better is with trial and error. #oklaed
Share your opinion and knowledge. Also create interaction between different users and read about their own opinions what can turn into a debate. But if doing that, try to be constructive and not just disgrace the others opinion.

For schools, Edublog (a Wordpress subsidiary) is great. The teacher can have a blog and then students can have blogs under the teacher's. It's pretty neat. #oklaed

When I think about why I should blog I think it is to share the great things my students are doing and mistakes that I learned from. Something, that is going to make the world better! #oklaed
I am in the process of switching to wordpress and making it a comprehensive site with blog, products and other tools. Is that really the future? Blogs embedded with other things? #oklaed

I don't anymore (doc student and 2 kids, no time) but when I taught I did at https://t.co/ti3vKTwaJd - it was a way to keep parents in the loop and document classroom activities as an online portfolio for future jobs. #oklaed

Once your students finish with their essays, have them publish them as articles on a blog. Or turn them into podcasts. I'd recommend you model this process on your own blog... #oklaed
Blogging could allow students to see less formal writing. It might be more relatable, its certainly more stream or consciousness. I teach science though so I don't really know. #oklaed
I am such a fan of blogging #OklaEd ...I use @Inoreader to bring my students' individual blogs all together in a stream, by class, by assignment, etc. you can see the stream displayed inside Canvas LMS for example here: https://t.co/6nW2NbGPnH ... details: https://t.co/jgJQM9ev0O

It can be emergent but just keep in mind.. 1) it is a form of reporting, so put true stuff out there and verify facts . 2) follow good digital citizenship. The @lostogle is fun to read, but does ruffle a few feathers! #oklaed

When will I be able to just think what I want to blog and it’s done without me having to actually type while so have so much other stuff going on?
#oklaed
My advice would be "Don't blog just to blog. Do it because you want to and enjoy doing it. If you don't enjoy it, it'll become more of a task (I've got to blog because yada yada yada) and you'll lose motivation quickly. #oklaed
I think that is one option. I also suggest you find an email marketing solution such as Constant Contact. That way, when people visit your site, they can subscribe, and you can contact them when you have new products or information for them. #oklaed

I once heard @garyvee say you should have 50 blog topics in your brain when you start. If you can create 50 topics, then it's something you're both passionate about and have enough knowledge/experience to make it a reality! #oklaed
#OklaEd I've been out of the classroom for 9+ years. BUT I believe blogs can be used "across curriculum" as I use them: to add to the material I Consider as I'm seeking to address situations I select - in classrooms, addressing driving questions provided br the instructor.
For me it is easiest to blog what I am passionate about. Sometimes I need a break from researching & writing papers - my blog gives me a chance to write about what lights a fire in me (plus I can write in passive voice & use pictures) 🔥 #oklaed
Bog about things that are relevent and meaningful to you...blog about things that stretch your thinking or help you to reflect on your teaching, education etc. #oklaed
how cool: BLOGGING is the #OklaEd chat topic for tonight. I say: YAY for blogs! they are not a perfect technology, but it's the best solution I know so that each student can have their own creative space while easily sharing and interacting with others in their spaces.
When I blog, I always discuss educational issues. With The Spark, I want to show the creation and innovation that schools have, and I also want to share ideas about how to take education into a different direction. #oklaed
I say just start now. Those 50 topics will come to you as you start writing, as you continue teaching, as you continue learning and reading... Build it and they will come... LOL! #oklaed
Blogging can be intimidating. If you allow yourself to think you have to reach so many people or have something powerful each time you can really get bogged down. The main goal should be to share your current thoughts on a topic that is interesting to you at the moment. #oklaed
via @MrP_tchr
When will I be able to just think what I want to blog and it’s done without me having to actually type while so have so much other stuff going on?
#oklaed
Just write it. Content will get better and you will get better. If you want feedback and dialogue, invite colleagues and friends to read but just write. It will come. #oklaed
Also, use your own voice and style. Don't try to be like (insert favorite blogger/vlogger). Nobody wants to read/see you being #fake. Find your own voice and rock it. If you enjoy memes, use that. #oklaed#unapologeticallyyou
If I let scheduling and planning get in my way, I'd never blog. I'd like to be more organized, but it's not going to happen, so I just automate as much as I can and get out of my own way. #oklaed

How can instructors use tech tools, such as blogs or twitter, while protecting vulnerable students(eg. Victims of domestic abuse)
#oklaed
You should blog about something you are passionate about. Blogging should be enjoyable rather than something you force yourself to do. I believe your writing is usually better quality when it's a topic you care about. #OklaEd
I am a math T so blogging in my classroom would be too much given math symbols are hard to write. What benefits have you seen with having Ss blog? #oklaed

#oklaed
Truth. And you don't even have to blog about education! Write about a hobby--rebuilding engines, for example-- and show how you use blogs in this unlikely area to connect with people. You'll reach students you never thought you could. #oklaed
so someone told me to think about brand.. but that is too much.. so what I did was make sure everything matched, so I have DrTerriC on Twitter, blog, instagram, linked in, and gmail.. that way it matches if I ever want to do more. #oklaed
I'm not sure. I think it is critical to emphasize that the internet is forever. Even if not shared, or private, or deleted some form of your work will be there. So while it might act as a diary, it is always hackable etc. This contrasts to a notebook in your desk drawer. #oklaed
I think you should blog about whatever you feel strongly about. If you love a certain topic and have ideas, then put them into a blog. By doing that you may find others who share that same love.
I think the key to making it across the curriculum is to focus on strategies or models rather than content. It just hit me how cool it would be if a school shared a common blog site and shared ideas there. #oklaed
With students I think it's important to research safe searching - i.e., with elementary-aged students there are ways to set search settings on google #oklaed

even in a math classroom students could, and should, blog about the learning process! one of the most productive blogging assignments in my classes is about exploring growth mindset, metacognition, etc. ...all learners can learn about metacognition & blog what they learn #OklaEd
#oklaed, most blog sites will allow you to schedule your posts so that time management thing will be easy to attain. Blog 10-12 times then spread it out over 3 weeks and #magic!
#Oklaed you can blog about mainly everything. I think it would be a good idea to blog about things you like as for example hobbies. If you start a blog you don't really like, in a few days you will get tired of it and stop blogging, but if you enjoy it, it will beacome amazing
I write my posts, schedule them ahead of time, then automate the social media part. I also have an email system setup that people can subscribe to and it sends them emails with the information they requested. #oklaed
Kidblog and Edublog give you the ability to create a walled garden of sorts for student blogs to protect in these situations. They can be set up so that only the T can view. #oklaed
While reading others for ideas is great, remember this blog is yours and is based on YOUR experience. It’s not going to be the same as someone else’s. In the same token, your blogging maybe what someone else needs to read so don’t be afraid. It is about you! #oklaed
#OklaEd Hey! I'm an Elementary Education major at USAO in Chickasha! I plan on graduating Spring of 2020 and teaching in Mustang! I don't blog myself but I would love to read teacher blogs.
#OklaEd I really like the self-selected goal of @Leadershipfreak who seeks to keep his posts to 300 words. ALSO believe its important to include APPROPRIATE links for reader use!!!
EXACTLY! When you're doing your research, look to see what is already out there and what you can add this ISN'T already out there. How are you different? And don't think you aren't. You just have to find your own niche. #oklaed
I try to curate my different social media for different purposes. Twitter is more professional, IG is mom-ville, FB is a constant argument with myself about whether it’s worth it to keep up with former students or if I should just delete it altogether...#oklaed
When I taugth 3rd grade I would create "Google Search Engines" for different topics...with my firsties and kinder kiddos we use google safe search as a class. It's so important for us to provide opportuinites and have convos early! #OklaEd
Because @grendelrick and @edgeblogger blog I realized their greatness and their wealth of knowledge. I learned from them and still do. Oh and @ClaudiaSwisher. My favorite bloggers. #oklaed
I am also a student in my class, as well as a teacher, so I have a class blog as a student just like my students, and my posts show up in the blog stream right there with the students' posts! #OklaEd#TotalCoLearner :-)

Blogging/podcasting has been huge for me, I get the best feedback from the #oklaed community and many of my podcast guests have come from this twitter chat!

#OklaEd Hey! I'm an Elementary Education major at USAO in Chickasha! I plan on graduating Spring of 2020 and teaching in Mustang! I don't blog myself but I would love to read teacher blogs.
I think blogging is a great way to share the story of what is going on in your school/district. One of the main reasons I started was to highlight great things going on in the #oklaed community
I regularly search for #OklaEd, knowing that I'll undoubtedly access material that will enhance my approach to Effective Learning AND my "Optimized Overall Educational Experience" Considerations.
I show students my blog so they can see how I use my writing to support my teaching and connect with my peers. I want them to see how writing can connect to something else. #oklaed
I haven't blogged enough to really comment on this, but when I do blog it allows me to reflect on what went well, what went wrong and what I can change for the next time. #oklaed
Here's what I've learned with blogging too. Don't pander because online can be wishy-washy. Be you. Folks may or may not rock with you and you've got to be okay with it. Yes, I used wishy-washy in an educational chat! +10 points for me. #oklaed
#OklaEd I follow The Sprinkle Topped Teacher who is a blogger and sends out weekly advice and tips to help teachers get ready for the week ahead of them! I love her!
@EmilyDoringEd while many of these tweeters post about education and advocacy, there are many language arts teachers who have students blog creative writing and the like. #oklaed
a big boost for me is having blogs of past students available as models for new students... here's a blog from last semester with a podcast too! #OklaEdhttps://t.co/kh6xFrtAKX (the reports of a dwarf "feypologist" who students trolls, elves, etc. -- I teach mythology)
I'm starting a #edtech "Lunch & Learn" series with colleagues at Bethany HS. I'll be using a lot of the info from my current & future blog posts. #oklaed
Oh, Lord! I can do either of those and Stella Nova which is wonderful as well. You name a place and time and I will be there!!!!! I will buy you what ever you eat and drink #oklaed

I’m not sure we already have a faculty email thread, and group me, a faculty blog may be a little much. Or maybe not. Maybe would be more collaborative given the space. #oklaed
Hey, so I was just wondering: How do you start a blog? how do you get people interested in what you write? I think it's not that easy as just sharing your blog in social media, because if people don't feel interested in it, they won't go read your blog again... #OklaEd
#OklaEd I follow so many teachers on Instagram because I enjoy seeing their ideas, lessons, and activities. Some of my favorites are fairchildin5th, thekinderheartedclassroom, and lifeinfifthgrade. Go follow them!!
114. The # of students at Rockwood Elementary that got a positive call home last week. That is in ONE WEEK. Can you imagine if we made this a daily goal? How many students & parents could we reach? What a way to build community & culture. So proud. #OklaEd#RisingRockets@OKCPS
More options.. I've never used Medium but I have really enjoyed using Word Press to blog, let's me post audio and connect to podcasting platforms plus I can link in resources and schedule to post #oklaed
Blogging in the classroom... would give students voice and an authentic audiance! So many possibilites for intigrating subject areas, discussing appropriate internet use, and digital footprint...if we don't teach them in k-12 how will they learn? #oklaed
I don't blog, but I am grateful for those who do. Technology moves so fast and I learn a lot about the latest and greatest from blogs so that my students benefit. #oklaed
I think it's similar to educational websites, just the
"Views expressed” disclaimer informs that the views/thoughts/opinions expressed in the text belong solely to the author, and not necessarily to the author's employer, organization or other group or individual. #oklaed
my students use their blogs for all kinds of writing: sharing their reading notes, writing stories, brainstorming... and then their best work goes into a semester-long website project; everything leaves a digital trail... :-) #OklaEd our blog stream: https://t.co/UBtSgKxcDi
I like being in control of my content and being able to drive traffic to my brand. I publish my content on my blog (which I can move where ever I want with my domain name) and then promote to multiple social media channels from there. #oklaed
I am not familiar with @medium. I think like everything it depends on what you want to do. Blogging doesn’t fit all goals as I am sure Medium doesn’t either. I think being clear on goals should always be the first step #oklaed
Additionally, if I publish at Medium or on Twitter, then any traffic I send to my content is promoting them. When I publish on my own blog, I am promoting https://t.co/P0UeRKPCyN and that visibility shows in my search engine results. #oklaed
Hey #oklaEd family! I have a meeting with my VP tomorrow to talk about black history month! What are some things your school does to celebrate black history? How do you engage your faculty, students, etc.?
even though it's 2019, most of my students (and I teach mostly college seniors) have not blogged before... but they are excited to give it a try; they feel like they SHOULD know this stuff, but nobody has taught them... I appreciate their enthusiasm! #OklaEd
#OklaEd I know, my question ... MY ANSWER: I believe there's value to me in finding posts from people I may not be familiar with and/or on topics transferable to my interests (but not aligned directly with my interests). More work to access from blogs AND others to my thoughts.
It would be a great way to highlight what’s happening in different classrooms. Maybe a district website could link to a blog with weekly posts from students from different grade levels. #oklaed
I think Facebook and Twitter has taken over the blog idea. Since the 2016 election, I have been shocked how much people get their info from these two mediums. As a journalist by trade, this still scares me #oklaed
When it comes to reading, I don't think blogs are a heavy read, it just depends on the content. I'll read my favorite blogs, even if they are long - if they are centered on a topic that interests me #oklaed
FTR, I used to run a web design and hosting company for almost 10 years and studied Internet marketing as part of the process. I still do in my spare time. LOL! #oklaed
Your have multiple options. I have used blogger and edublog which is based on a wordpress platform. Getting a ton of readers shouldn't be your primary focus, instead choose what you want your blog to be centered around, start posting and the audience will come #oklaed
Hey #oklaEd family! I have a meeting with my VP tomorrow to talk about black history month! What are some things your school does to celebrate black history? How do you engage your faculty, students, etc.?
It's about having the opportunity to write for multiple audiences, yes? I write for multiple blogs, and myself. Each plays a different role and has a different purpose for a different audience #oklaed
Part 1: Blogging could serve as a type of communication happening in the classroom, the school, and the district. If you can access it, then active engagement is eminent! #OklaEd

I hear lots of shout outs for enjoying podcasts - all I got to say is if you haven't listened to #PassingNotes yet, it's a good one. Last episode was an interview with @KristinAtchley and the rest of Jan. will be episodes about being trauma-informed #oklaed
There is a blog like feature in Office365/sharepoint (it's a little limited but it would be secure) @MPSTechnology do MPS students have acces to it? #oklaed
I don't blog, I'm a student wanting to go into the education field. Being able to see what educators go through during a school year and gather ideas about what you can do in a classroom is helpful because it allows me to start preparing myself for my chosen career choice #OklaEd
Absolutely! I don’t know what it would take to get people to start leaning in to listening to all voices. No one seems to want to do this anymore. I love it. I can only believe by knowing all beliefs. #oklaed
Great questions.. depends on your blog.. For example @brholland blogs about research so in most cases she has read a book or several papers. Others blog about their classroom so its more reflective. #oklaed
I'd also like to add that blogging doesn't have to be just about you. You can also write about your research, interview other people for a post, work with guest authors, etc. #oklaed

Most of my stuff gets read around 9 a.m. on a Wednesday. That said, I like to publish around 6 a.m. on a Tuesday or Wednesday to catch teachers before they have a class, or at least reach them on their planning period across the U.S. #oklaed
Basing my answer off of FB Page Analytics, but if you post things consistently around the same time, post school hours between 5-8 you have more time to reach your audience if it is education related. #oklaed
That is some serious FOMO there.. :)
I would say its good to share relevant posts at 8pm on Sunday nights but only if you are participating in #oklaed#netiquette

I follow a ton of primary educators on my personal Instagram. Their insta-stories are like mini-pd sessions that break down content and explain the research behind the activities. They usually have a link to blog posts that go further in depth. #OklaEd
#OklaEd Certainly disappointed but comfortable acknowledging VERY FEW were interested in my blog posts - reason I've happily moved on to alternatives: #PSL daily Twitter posts, posting to @Medium and @Quora - and writing a book on Personal Servant Leadership (PSL)
I've done some research on this and it appears it depends on the platform...I publish posts at 2pm on Thursday, I don't know if it is idea but I read that Thursdays are better than Fridays (that's when I originally started posting) #oklaed

I've been looking at my blog tonight, that was last updated in April 2014. On there, I have a lot of reflections and photos of things that went well. I think it would give a potential employer a glimpse of what kind of Teacher-Librarian I am. #oklaed

@PintoBeanz11 has a great blog for early childhood/elem teachers using Google Classroom...my school is Microsoft but her blog and book have been helpful to me as I develop ideas and lessons that incorporate O365. #OklaEd

The nice thing about a WordPress blog is that you can use Jetpack to automate your social media postings. #oklaed I share to FB, Twitter, LinkedIn as soon as I publish. #oklaed
As always, @TeachFromHere did an amazing chat. I was hesitant to join because I only had a few thoughts. Now I hate to leave and prepare for school tomorrow. Love you to pieces Scott. When am I going to guest speak at your class? #oklaed
#OklaEd "Blogging" evolved from a Northern Maine logger who had severely injured his leg while dropping a tree for harvesting. Having a thing for the letter "b," when he began posting his thoughts on social media, he coined the term, BLOGGING!!! at least, that's my understanding.
Regularly - don't want people to forget you exist. If not weekly (which I don't do weekly) it's important to put out posts about the content or other resources. #oklaed
I do alot of pintrest, which usually has blogs connected to it. So by clicking on something it takes me to the blog that I then read to get ideas about various math concepts. #oklaed
The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog", was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog in April or May 1999.

I understand as a blog reader, and will find the one way I want to follow other bloggers, too. But as a publisher, I reach out in all of those ways, including my mailing list, to provide my audience with whatever option(s) they prefer. #oklaed
Decide what you want the blog to do and what you want it to be about, then find a platform that fits your needs. I google a lot or just ask @TeachFromHere when I can't figure something out. I did a lot of research before I started posting. #oklaed
I would check with Tulsa they have been doing some great stuff about Remembering Greenwood and Black Wall Street. They should have some classroom resources available and its local and important history. #oklaed
