-
Hello, from Elmhurst, IL: A1:use sticky notes, photos, CCS checklist. Keep in binder All quick, comparable evidence.
-
Very cool! Yeah, if you ever want to visit the office, we are in Inglewood!
-
Welcome Judith! Where are you from?
-
Q1 is now up! Q2 will be posted in 6 minutes!
-
A1: I often use "exit tickets" Ss tell me something they learned or respond to a quick q from me
-
Take a break, you deserve it, that's hard work!
-
is new to Twitter chatting but is an amazing teacher, mother and is working hard towards her Masters! Go Judy!
-
awesome, after you gather data, how do initially evaluate progress on standards/skills?
-
-
A1- depending on the standard or skill, I like to use a learning log the students have created.
-
A1 I rely a lot on inclusive class discussions to gather formative assessment. Ss expanding on each other's ideas informs me.
-
A1: for me, a good first step was sorting responses into "got it" "kinda got it" "don't got it"
-
A1 I have my own notes tools to store & refer to data, look for trends, then ask myself abt my practice
-
Do you have conferences with students or do they also create a log at all?
-
I agree, find that is a great way to also build collab & relatshps, very helpful, new ideas emerge
-
Sounds interesting? Ss fill it out? how do you keep on same page?
-
A1 I like things in the moment, moving forward, going deeper, making connections, & reflecting back. Never one-and-done.
-
A1 Cont't - It works well in collaboration with others - especially if there was any group work involved.
-
Good lesson, always room to grow, changes to make, work on new ideas
-
A1contd: initial f assessment is pretty subjective for me
-
What are different ways you group them? based on level of attainment? types of strategies?
-
A1: using Google Forms for on the fly understanding. W/ flubaroo plugin for data gathering and sorting
-
I like exit tickets as well, but also use old school quick check quizzes and plan to use tech this year to make it faster
-
It is all the students. I consult with them usually after the post but it is there learning. @goformative@RewardingEdu
-
-
A1 Learning is more of a process, not just a result. If it's important enough to teach, it's worth returning to often &deeply
-
I have used Google forms as well, quick to put together and good data to review,
-
A1: then I group students missing similar questions together as a reboot
-
A2 Initially who's got it, kinda, and needs work.
-
I have used paper too, but more for , I want to know Ss prog & they always do too
-
A2: here begins the mess! I use google spreadsheet to plan groupings-try to combine skills/stands
-
A2-I teach CTS - all modular based. Each outcome is separate of each other. Compared only to there own work.
-
-
A2cntd: groupings become more conference like to gain deeper understanding with Ss
-
Q3 will be tweeted in 5 minutes!
-
A2 Yeah, this is the vital interconnection and relevance part of instruction. These connections create meaning & endure.
-
A2 I use the data to constantly regroup students and in putting a summarize together, especially when I am looking at mastery
-
I moving from primary to third so formatives will be important to drive my instruction
-
Finding similarities between standards to define groups and grouping! awesome! https://t.co/hBn8PYghDF
-
-
A2: here begins the mess! I use google spreadsheet to plan groupings-try to combine skills/stands
-
A2-con't - I am looking for consistent learning compared to themselves, not other students. Google Drive folders work well.
-
A2 I use data to look for new ways to help Ss, grp them in ways that help them & let others become T too,
-
A2: Comparing work across connected standards allowed me to find gaps in the path from one to the next
-
Yes,few yrs ago I startd w/ and ths yr
-
agree Ryan. Great tool, the date and time stamp for student and teacher accountability is fantastic :)
-
Had Ss create with this yr & use in classes, they really enjoyed the exper
-
Ss' love it when I mix up their groups and the data is my basis for differentiating, gets attention to right Ss'
-
Purposeful grouping is big in LAUSD. Using intention, strategy, & support for the best groups. Scholarship, not socializing.
-
nice! allowing Ss to see own progression is great! start to shift culture away from # comparison
-
I do like to have Ss in grps & move around, facilitate some, but listen, learn & apply to next lesson
-
A2 and hit multiple curricular birds with one stone with rti. Save time
-
-
If you have not found it yet is great, data is spot on
-
-
It can be a lot of info, fortunately great tools enable easy data analysis & more
-
Q3 is now up! Not too late to jump in!
-
A2: tiered out similarly to CCSS placement. For example, advanced, meets or near, not to standard.
-
A3: data to pinpoint areas for improvement, other resources to do the "teaching"
-
A3 again obviously grouping
-
Last question, time to still join in
-
Just having the data and being able to pinpoint what Ss' are struggling with gives me clues to how and what to reteach
-
A3-our school uses a spectrum, not meeting is lowest and must be re-assessed.
-
A3: We as a grade team compared progress on specific standards/skills to build off of approaches
-
A3 Less about reteaching & more about reinforcing, revisiting, & Ss reflecting. More learning thru connections & cohesion.
-
A3p2: data is useless if it is not utilized, a big pet peeve of mine
-
A3 focus or pinpoint skill deficit for quick purposeful reteach before intervention becomes necessary
-
It's good that you guys have systems in place. Is Ss mastery compared across teachers? resources shared?
-
A3-con't - Individual work is recorded and reflections tell teachers what students know and need work on.
-
A3 Look for trends, find Ss to pair, grps, or let Ss come up w/activ to use in class & T facilitate
-
-
And depending on what I use, sometimes use same assmt later and compare or ask Ss to reflect on grwth
-
A3 So important to be certain to interrelate skill/appropriate strategy for each Ss to solidify their learning.
-
I agree Robert, also great when Ss' take the wheel and help guide themselves through struggles https://t.co/FcgVI2r5Y9
-
-
A3 Less about reteaching & more about reinforcing, revisiting, & Ss reflecting. More learning thru connections & cohesion.
-
Love the idea of allowing Ss to re-teach skills! They may have a way of making it clearer for others!
-
This is what I am talking about in re-assessment
-
it also shows individual progress to celebrate growth
-
Q3 for reteaching, our school has tutorial time T&Th for students in need. How 1 presents resources varies for each student
-
Like this statement! https://t.co/REEsRqQNX1
-
-
A3 Less about reteaching & more about reinforcing, revisiting, & Ss reflecting. More learning thru connections & cohesion.
-
important distinction guys! revisiting at relevant times is essential
-
A3 Revisiting core concepts in new, exciting, & deeper ways validates Ss, where reteaching can insult them & turn them off.
-
I have often stepped back to allow Ss to step in if they weren't already, they are amazing
-
Subject data teams meet weekly and discuss how students did on our common formatives, great to compare data and get ideas
-
Sometimes Ss need a break from a skill, other concepts might help them attain it later
-
Great idea. Students seem to connect with each other in understanding.
-
Reflection is so impt for Ss & Ts, and we each benefit frm fdbk, I try to make this common in CR
-
exactly, and I like to use similar questions on summarizes
-
totally! I'd say my colleagues were my #1 resource for finding different ways to re-intro content/facilitate
-
I like this! Time set aside for specific purpose is critical, routine & then becomes natural
-
& some Ss feel unchallenged, disinterested and tune out, learning lost, need ways to keep engagd
-
-
Awesome! To build off this strategy, I've seen a rotation of teachers for diff. groups of Ss to switch up approach
-
Well that was a fast Lots of great ideas shared and happy to see others piggyback on them!
-
When a skill becomes useful, vital, & meaningful it is no longer a drudgery. All about empowerment! https://t.co/lQqcDT8Bl3
-
-
Sometimes Ss need a break from a skill, other concepts might help them attain it later
-
We have traded rooms and taught each other's classes to get that other perspective
-
With this, info on Ss must be shared and obviously rapport built!
-
We shift Ss around. Reality? My strategies just might not work w/ certain Ss. A fresh approach is necessary.
-
It sure did go fast, lots of great ideas
-
don't let small group time get chipped away by stuff that happens in the day
-
Intellectual vigor is just as important as academic rigor! https://t.co/sIh5NcAIuK
-
-
& some Ss feel unchallenged, disinterested and tune out, learning lost, need ways to keep engagd
-
Divide Ss with Ts that are strong at teaching specific skill! Humble pie! It's for the kiddos!
-
Super important! Ss truly love the ability to reassess themselves using
-
Thanks for the chat! Don't forget to build your !
-
I love to go teach a writing lesson next door. Kids love it too.
-
Highlighting Ts strengths is important, just like highlight Ss strengths! We learn from each other! https://t.co/Mz37rTnomn
