Derek Wasyliw, Teacher/Graduate Student in Montreal, Quebec. Looking forward to connecting & building my PLN. Excited to spend time with friends and family at the lake this summer #DojoChat
A1 I remember my parents buying gifts for my teachers & I would deliver them with a hug. My parents were teachers, too, but I don't remember them making a big deal about TA Week... weird? #DojoChat
A1 Since I come from a FAMILY of teachers, we always made sure to take GOOD care of all our teachers with cards, gift cards, and small tokens of appreciation. #dojochat
A1 I remember giving my teacher homemade caramels, but can't remember much more. Hopefully my parents helped me celebrate my teacher as I don't know how much they appreciated my crayola creations I did on my own LOL #dojochat
Q1: I remember my sisters and I going to local stores, looking for things our teachers love. 5th yeah loved the beach & we got her a glass fish mobile I still love π #dojochat
A1 I do remember one year I re-gifted a vintage jewelry box my grandma gave me. LOL, I don't think my parents were happy with me but I REALLY liked Mrs. Owens, she was the best! #dojochat
I, unfortunately, was not the kind of student to do anything or bring anything in to class for my teachers. I did bring coffee for a high school teacher a few times thought. #dojochat
#dojochat. Aaron Wallace Special Education Interventionist LaVergne Lake Elementary. This summer I am taking classes and holding a new nephew coming in early July.

A1: Hey hey! Jumping in late... I don't remember doing anything for teacher appreciation week. My Ps moved here from Romania when I was 2 & with no technology & language barrier they were probably unaware of the tradition. #dojochat#immigrantproblems

A2 I'm at 2 schools, so we've had breakfast, candy bars, jeans passes, Italian lunch, taco bars, and this morning I got a bunt cake from a local delicious bakery! YUM!! #DojoChat#ThisTeacherIsGettingFatThisWeek
A2 We celebrate earlier in the year since the end of year is so crazy busy. Our PTSA does an amazing job of celebrating our fantastic teachers with special events each day of the week! #dojochat
A1 #dojochat I remember in second grade helping my teacher clean up get room and organize packing up for the summer... fast forward still enjoy organizing others but struggle with my own.
A2 #dojochat. This year the kids and parents are bringing in breakfast for the teachers. Two grade levels each day. Then our principal is having lunch for us tomorrow.
A3 My parents and their teacher friends were my biggest inspiration! I spent so much time at school that I honestly didn't know how to or have interest in doing anything else. #DojoChat
Late to #dojochat! A2: We got a candy bar Monday, BBQ lunch yesterday, a paw print pin today (yearly gift - always a different one), Nacho bar tomorrow, and an unknown gift on Friday.
#dojochat A3: @KtBkr4 was my 9th grade English teacher. Every year after that she let me be in her room for study hall. She gave m8ne muy first glimpse into the ins and outs of teaching.
A3: @JustJantz always looks for the reason behind a S's behavior meanwhile I'm flailing and past my calm point. She puts it back into perspective. #dojochat
A4 I, personally, feel appreciated at my 2 schools. However, I think teaching as a profession is very underappreciated. Many people don't realize the time, effort, and energy it takes to fulfill the demands placed on us. #DojoChat
A4 The highest compliment of all is the appreciation I receive from my students each day. Those hugs & high fives are the BEST form of appreciation I can get! #dojochat
A4: toughy. Yes and no. Yes 80% of the time by ppl in school. I feel parents are more ambivalent than appreciative & are more likely to speak up when upset vs happy. Very little from Ss most days. Coming home defeated makes me no no fulfilled. #dojochat
A4: YES! I have great parents who send me notes of appreciation, I love everyone that I work with and my kids seem to generally appreciate me...or they will when they go to first grade and wish they were back in K #dojochat
#dojochat A4: I feel super appreciated today! I was given an awesome thank you gift and several reassuring words from parents. I wish that more parents would communicate efficiently.
#dojochat A4: I feel appreciated by my students' parents. My kids have been a little off the wall lately, but we're down to 10 days of school so it's expected, lol
A3 #dojochat My art teacher in high school Mrs. Baker. Would stop class for a @ChannelOneNews conversation to share her love and concern for us and have the difficult conversations we needed to hear from an adult that cared about and to let us share what was on our hearts
It really is...hang in there @msvanwyk5th! And you are making a difference! This time of year is especially hard...spring fever/summer mode is kicking in overdrive. #dojochat

A5 I would certainly feel more appreciated if law makers would involve us more. Ask US about how to make improvements in our schools. Ask US how we assess our students. After all, WE are the ones living it every day - they aren't. #DojoChat
A5: More interactions with teachers and administrators in a non-evaluative way. Just seeing other Ts in the hallway or visiting other classrooms. #dojochat
A4 I do feel appreciated by my students and colleagues. We help each other and support one another. My students even though test the waters here towards the end know that my room is a safe place for them. #dojochat
When I taught pre-k one of my kids walked back to my room after the second day because he needed a rest time and Kindergarten wasnβt offering them. #dojochat#kindergartencop#naptime
A5: I would feel more appreciated if law makers appropriated more funds for education... more Ts for smaller class sizes and counselors to aide with social-emotional issues. #dojochat
A1: I remember bringing them flowers and cards - I was a big card writer. Drawing them pictures. As I got older, it was more gift cards and things like that. #dojochat
A4 Available/capable subs, easy scheduling of time off, no side eye when life happens and I have to leave, mental health days that are not granted with discomfort and a paycheck that arrives, timely, are all I need . Got that so I am good #dojochat
Aww yes! There is no rest time in K *~welcome to the real world~* haha in Sept. I have many Ss who fall asleep in the afternoon. I let them nap #dojochat
A6 I always felt most appreciated when the "thank yous" and sweet notes came randomly and genuinely. We should appreciate teachers year round - not just one week a year! #DojoChat
A2: Our PTA asked students to bring in something special for their teacher each day this week. Today was βchipsβ day - so I have about 10 on my desk right now. #dojochat
A5 #dojochat I know our careers are a calling and a passion, it would be amazing if the government paid us what others with Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate Degrees are making in the world. Or job security.

A3: My third grade teacher, Mrs. Ricci, has really influenced my teaching practices today. She was tough and firm...but she did things that I have incorporated into my own teaching routines like reading Roald Dahl books to my kiddos and studying artists. #dojochat
A6: I mean there's no one grand gesture....it's all the little things. The positive comments on class stories, the notes from my kids, the thank yous from parents during conferences, the shoutouts from admin for a job well done. All of those small things boosts morale #dojochat
A6: Getting just a short note from a teacher, administrator, and once from the superintendent for seeing something they were proud of in my classroom. #dojochat it doesn't have to be Starbucks $ and fancy Pinterest gifts
A6 I have felt most appreciated in my career when my administrators realized how passionate dedicated and loyal I am to my job school and students. When I get positive notes or emails just saying I am seeing good things or hearing good things from your colleagues. #dojochat
A4: I feel under-appreciated at times by the people who really matter in our school system. When you go above and beyond, itβs nice just to have a βGreat Job!β thrown your way every once in a while. #dojochat
A7: last year, a parent made a sign that appeared on my door that said, "Ms. Van Wyk teaches muggles to study like Granger, protect like Weasley, and live like Potter." Sweetest thing for my #harrypotter classroom #dojochat
#dojochat A7: two years ago a parent brought me bags of stuff including a panda mug, pillow and shirt. The greatest non-physical gift was I had a student who I taught in middle school come to my class and hug me every day and tell me I was his "best nerdiest teacher ever"
A5: The million dollar question! How about just letting us be professionals? Donβt question are βteacher judgement.β Buy us a cup of coffee every once in a while? Really...small gestures go a LONG way. #dojochat
#dojochat A7: I got it today! Lol I've always wanted a director's chair in my room. Another favorite was a tower made of kitkat bars, doritos, and cheetos! π
A8 I have tried to take time this week to make sure my teachers know I appreciate them by telling them so. Sometimes recognition for a job well done is just what they need! #DojoChat
A6. #dojochat#gonoodle@GoNoodle nd my district sent my class a set of playground balls and equipment for winning a workout challenge in the district. I won a gonoodle lanyard and it is like gold. Everyone wants one.
A6: I love having parents come up to me and share the successes their students are having at home. It validates my work in the classroom and that makes me a very happy teacher. #dojochat
I also happen to be a @GoNoodle ambassador, so if you ever need anything, let me know! I can definitely get you in touch with the right people! #DojoChat

Also, there should be a team teacher exchange. I teach at a high poverty school. Gifts are few but deeply heartfelt, but you fancy school teachers can throw a chocolate bar my way #sharethelove#dojochat
Final question of the night for #DojoChat is coming up in one minute! You guys have been awesome tonight and I appreciate each and every one of you!!!!
A wonderful chat as usual in honor of #TeacherAppreciationWeek πThank you @smithstrcs and thank you to all the amazing educators we know doing AMAZING things each and everyday in classrooms all around the world. β€οΈ #dojochat
A7: Ah! So hard...again, seeing my students succeed. Having them recognize their hard work has paid off...that they get a new and challenging concept. #dojochat
