TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
We will use a Q1, Q2…format for Questions during #TnEdChat . Please use the A1, A2… format for answers and add a gif or meme to visually support your answer
Q1 A great way to encourage others to take some risks is by sharing our story. Have you presented at any conferences? If so, which ones? If not, what has been stopping you? #tnedchat
A1 I started by presenting to staff at a PD session, then applied for @peteandc and @iste in 2015, was so excited and also nervous to present, what a great opportunity! #tnedchat
A1 I never wanted to speak in public, but when you are passionate about something, you need to share your story, your experience, failures and successes, #tnedchat
A1 Yes, FETC, GaETC, TAIS, TETC, ACSD Empower..I enjoy sharing the amazing things happening at my school with others and to help others see things that work for me and allow them to consider for themselves. #tnedchat
A1-I have presented at Pearson ATI, AASSA and iNNOVATE conferences. I have also been a guest PD speaker at a few schools. Great way to share stories. #TNedchat
A1 I’ve been to a bunch, especially regionally, but also ISTE, CUE Rockstar, Tech Rodeo and a few others, time, money, and family are some of the reasons I don’t do more #tnedchat
Hey #tnedchat ! Jacie from Pittsburgh checking in. I’m excited to be heading to Toronto to speak at their #STEAM conference this week! @PeelSchools@BrardArts
A1: I haven’t presented at a conference yet, I’ve been too busy learning from others! But I am going to be a presenter at EdCamps for the 2017-2018 school year! #nervous#tnedchat
Q1 A great way to encourage others to take some risks is by sharing our story. Have you presented at any conferences? If so, which ones? If not, what has been stopping you? #tnedchat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
I got my start with #njpaecet2 it was nerve racking but worth it. Since then I’ve done about 100 or so presentations. I learn as much as the people with whom I share #tnedchat
can you share the topic? I have been working on a book for a while, but not enough time, so lots of blogs and a few chapters, goal setting :) #tnedchat
A1: A few regional coach meetings, a tech summit last summer. Will apply for PETE&C next year. Was too intimidated to present in my 1st year this year. #TnEdChat
A2 I love sharing how the students have connected w/other Ss in diff Spanish speaking countries, the use of @edmodo@Flipgrid@padlet to help us to do this, and #stuvoice#tnedchat
This is my 3rd (solo) book but 1st education book. I love to write.l, but this one is special. It is very personal, filled with my failures and growth. #TNedchat
A1: Yes, TETC, uncons, Teachmeets, Google Summits, and #notatiste. Maybe I haven’t presented more bc I don’t like to present something that has temporary application or spend too many resources to be away from school unless I can bring something big back to my school. #tnedchat
A2 - I guess I’m most passionate about building relationships. I’ve presented on the topic and also have built my classroom around a community style of instruction. #tnedchat
A2: I don't know if it's a method, but I just believe in my gut that education in the 21st century is going to change RADICALLY in the next decade and I keep trying to push it along to maximize opportunities for my kids. They can do SO MUCH more if we empower them. #TnEdChat
#tnedchat A2 My passion is our primary source speaker program at North White. @1988project & I have brought experts into our classes to share their stories. It engages our Ss and makes learning relevant.
Being in NJ there are opportunities every week, getting to travel has been cool, especially seeing how schools work in different parts of the country #TnEdChat
A2- I have shared this before but it is worth sharing again. I have been working on the assmnt, feedback, self-assess, reassess cycle for a while. It is not perfect but getting better and better w/each assessment. #TNedchathttps://t.co/wMiC9Rhytw
A2: I am passionate about the potential of our AR/VR portable lab to expand and enrich the vicarious experiences of our students from poverty and with limited world travel experiences. #tnedchat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
A2 Share what you are doing in your classroom or school, even if did not go well for you, can be that one thing that someone else needs to know! #tnedchat
A2: Love EDtech! But I stress - Pedagogy 1st; Tech 2nd..Really into Google Slides now & how we can use it for Ss creation, not just consumption #tnedchat
#tnedchat A2 We also have created “cultural conversations.” Our sociology class spoke with a class in Argentina 🇦🇷 about gender inequality & HS CE class discussed current issues with a class in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽. Great to hear/learn other perspectives.
A2) I love making instructional videos to give my students a more personalized learning experience! I record lectures for students to watch at their own pace so we have more time for activities! #tnedchat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
Strategies for changing the learning environment. Also, building and developing a passion for teaching. Common sense ideas that just about every teacher can use and develop. Quotes from students about learning.
Joining in a little late but, I am Rylee Connolly. Currently a college student studying to be a teacher, hopefully in TN! I'm hoping to learn through reading through these. So to participate, A1: I have not participated in any conferences quite yet. #tnedchat
I have been doing this more lately too, quick screencasts and sharing with other Ts, but you make me think of a good idea, that is excellent practice for someone to build comfort #tnedchat
Q3: With the ISTE Standards for Educators, we can meet them all through conference attendance and interacting with PLN. As Learners and Leaders, how does presenting at a conference meet Standards 1 and 2? #tnedchat
A1: ISTE, led discussions at 30+ EdCamps, Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Conference, local conferences, state conferences. So many. Never thought I would do what I do, but I love it and love getting teachers excited! #tnedchat
That has been an area I have been spending more time in for my 8th grade #STEAM#emergingtech class, we cover #ARVRinedu a lot and I am so thankful for @JaimeDonally and her awesomeness, can't wait for her book this week! #tnedchat
A2: Currently I am a preschool teacher, I am passionate about being where their learning starts. I teach them everything in a way that is fun and excites them individually. The benefit to take away from this is making sure students are engaged is key. #tnedchat
Yes! It also makes for easier planning in future years, and gives me time to work with struggling students 1 on 1! Like cloning myself in my classroom. #tnedchat
I think a large part of both presenting and writing is about giving back to our profession. With how much education has given me, I want to give back and create opportunities for the next person #tnedchat
A2 #tnedchat One of the coolest things that has happened for me as a presenter at conferences is learning reciprocally from others on similar journeys. I don’t know why, but that surprised me the first time. Now I expect it.
A2: I'm pretty interested in academic leadership and organizational change. They are both essential to pedagogical shifts and effective tech integration. #tnedchat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
A3 We all need to keep learning and growing as educators, and we need to connect with other educators, to expand our skills, to step out of comfort zone, then take the lead #tnedchat
A2: Embracing WHY we use certain educational methods rather than HOW we do them. Prog. education that benefits children the most requires all hands on deck, all understanding the vision, and implementing it into every aspect of ed (not just buzzwords or tips/tricks.) #TnEdChat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
A2: My current passion right now is helping teachers find that tool that THEY ❤️the most. Computer science is my passion. I’m also developing an instructional plan for next year for K-2 so that’s also becoming my passion. Yes, they can do things using technology too. #tnedchat
A2b: Going to build a presentation with a creation we brainstormed in #4ocfpln - The Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Movie in Google Slides - "The Story of Kevin: https://t.co/JBWQfAvmD5#tnedchat
A3: If we are going to create engaging, authentic experiences for our students, we have to practice and engage ourselves in the art and study of pedagogy. The more we work together, the more we succeed in creating new learning experiences and assessments. #TNedchat
Love Flipgrid, goformative, screencastify, hyperdocs. Mostly though, I love giving kids choices in their learning. It’s amazing what they will do when they want to learn something. Won’t even have to worry about a grade👍 #tnedchat
Right now, we are using Google Expeditions, Merge Cubes, @MergeVR, and HP Reveal to satisfy our grant; we hope to think of broader opportunities later. Thanks for the suggestions. #tnedchat

A2 I am passionate about equipping students with leadership skills to help them develop a growth mindset and overcome obstacles in life. Learning you can’t always control what happens to you but you can always choose how you react=invaluable. #TNedchat
A3: We go to conferences with an open mindset to be continuous learners...not just to give as leaders. I don't ever want to feel like I have nothing to learn! #tnedchat
Q4: Sometimes we all need a little inspiration and coaching. If you have presented before, what tips do you have to share? If you have not, what questions do you have? #TnEdChat
Agreed! I’ve connected with so many great people and established relationships that have lasted years and years. Connected with @Rdene915 at #edcamp years ago ! #tnedchat
A3) Interactive PDs!! The Teacher is no longer the “smartest” one in the room! We have to have REAL discussions. Reflective discussions give learners the opportunity to add their greatness to the teachers materials! #tnedchat
A4 I say go for it, write a proposal today, what are you doing in class, what are Ss doing, what are your passions or lessons learned, share your story! #tnedchat
A4: Be authentic, even when it feels like you're the only one in the room who wants it. Presentations are not about hearing what we want to hear, but hearing what we NEED to hear. A speaker confident in who they are and authentic with their message will change lives. #TnEdChat
Q4: Sometimes we all need a little inspiration and coaching. If you have presented before, what tips do you have to share? If you have not, what questions do you have? #TnEdChat
A3: Presenting always turned into a learning experience for me as there were always things I learned from the Qs and discussions the participants had - like in the classroom, T isn't just spitting info at Ss in a good setup, learning is a dance #tnedchat
I am passionate about mentoring and coaching, life balance, ARVR, Breakouts, Google stuff, global connections. I like all the things!
In #TheTeachersJourney I talk a TON about mentoring, development, and balance #TnEdChat
Q2 As educators, we are doing what we are passionate about each day, sharing our love of learning and teaching others. Share something that you are passionate about, a method, a tool, a concept, that others could benefit from knowing. #tnedchat
A4: Make sure you are aware of your audience. If teachers can take 1 practical thing away from Pd it is a success. Make it a success for everyone. #tnedchat
A4 We all have something to offer, put yourself out there and help one another, build #PLN and start now, write a proposal, connect with #PLN365 submit for @fetc@ascd and go for it #tnedchat
A-3 The vision of where educators and schools need to be is necessary for a tech program that meets the needs of learners! It’s fun to be around like minded individuals who are on the cutting edge. #tnedchat
A4: Don’t pretend that what you are presenting is new to everyone; don’t get more interested in your own presentation than participants; and be sure that people walk away with something they can use. Try to keep everyone involved because they want to be in your session. #tnedchat
A4 My Presentation Tools page https://t.co/m2Fix8GagP A good presentation is inspiring but gives you things that you can take back and use in your schools and classrooms. Presentations should also take advantage of the expertise of the participants too. #TnEdChat
A4: Q for presenters at conferences - what was your experience scoring that first gig? What made you take that plunge and say it was "conference-worthy"?
#tnedchat
A4-Pace yourself. When you are practicing by yourself, time goes much faster. Slow down, read your audience. Be ready to change gears as Qs arise. Do not get offended if people come late or leave early, most confs use the "rule of 2 feet". #TNedchat
I can’t wait to have kids start working on my innovation/robotics lab redesign project in @cospaces_edu#TnEdChat
Our class site has some great examples of Metaverse and CoSpaces projects. https://t.co/naeveNzQim

I just kind of went for it, but had in mind what I had been doing in my CR< the tools we were using, student work and wanted to tell everyone #tnedchat
A4 I started with PD in my own district and then offered a topic on a current hot subject at the state level. I wanted to do it because I could attend conferences cheaper if I was a presenter. #tnedchat
A4: Q for presenters at conferences - what was your experience scoring that first gig? What made you take that plunge and say it was "conference-worthy"?
#tnedchat
A4:Share your passion Be yourself. HAVE FUN & your audience will too. Include your TWITTER handle on all slides- encourage tweets to grow your PLN - try to SLOW down (from a a fast talker!) Give door prizes #tnedchat
I proposed to present at TETC the first time because I knew that my administrators would be more likely to send me if I was presenting. (Presenter registration costs less.) #TNEdChat
By the way... Meagan here, joining from Dallas,Texas! 3rd grade teacher and PD leader!! Thanks for letting me crash the #tnedchat party! Ready to grow my out of state #PLN 👇👇👇
Starting a project this summer that will hopefully involve a lot of excited teachers looking to rethink culture and engagement in the classroom. Take a look at my new blog for more info and message me with ?s! https://t.co/bFWdFHWAcH#TnEdChat#DivergED#TeacherMyth#cultured
Just curious, does anyone know of any conferences in June-July that are looking for any session presenters or speakers? Pearson ATI isn't going to happen this summer and I am looking for another conference to present. #TNedchat
Yes! Just did a building Communities PD for my district last week. Most Ts only showed up because they needed the hours.. most left so excited to try the new strategies they engaged in during the PD!! (I wish I could make this stuff up) 😋 #tnedchat#kidsdeserveit
I also like reading PowerPoints from paper handouts while staring away from the audience #tnedchat (I’ve seen this done, it was amazing for all the wrong reasons.)
A4: Be authentic, even when it feels like you're the only one in the room who wants it. Presentations are not about hearing what we want to hear, but hearing what we NEED to hear. A speaker confident in who they are and authentic with their message will change lives. #TnEdChat

I always ask for feedback from the people who attend my PDs. My very first one, I got THAT feedback! “great story, but I’m bored” — never again have I talked for more than 5-10 minutes without my learners DOING something or talking too!! #tnedchat

Autocarrot tries to understand me, it has adjusted for chubby thumb syndrome, but not for my hatred of presi (ha it just changed it and I’m leaving it) #tnedchat
A2 well, I just guest moderated #tnedchat and loved the topic of presenting at conferences, how to get started, fears, and love that we are all connected in diff groups Twitter and Voxer, need to push each other :) #pln365
A3) presenting at conferences forces teachers to reflect on their practices with more depth and from different perspectives. This will always help student! #tnedchat
Q3: With the ISTE Standards for Educators, we can meet them all through conference attendance and interacting with PLN. As Learners and Leaders, how does presenting at a conference meet Standards 1 and 2? #tnedchat
Absolutely, that is a great point. It gives us the opps to share ideas of what works/doesnt work for us, get feedback and reflect, so critical #tnedchat
#tnedchat one of my favorite presenters at ISTE in Atlanta (a few years ago) simply put a single slide behind him on the stage for each transition he made in the presentation. I learned a lot from this as a participant and have used this tactic as a presenter.
I must say that I do love moderating chats! Some looking to present, maybe moderating a chat can get the ideas flowing, connections growing #tnedchat#pln365 everyone should join in #teachermyth tonight :)
