Good evening, #EdPiper family! Dr. Cindy Woody, making a positive difference in @MidlothianISD! My favorite thing today was when wonderful & wise Bobby Klahn from @TXWorkforce taught me to understand Texas labor data reports. Maybe that's dull to you, but I love it! #MISDproud
Welcome to #EDpiper, where we stick out our necks to learn all sorts of cool things from our PLN. I'm @DrJohnsonEDU TX Principal and co-mod. of this chat.
I am Valerie Willis and I live in Hewitt, Tx. I teach 4th grade reading at Castleman Creek Elementary. My favorite thing that happened today was spending time with my kiddos! #edpiper

Don't give away your joy to negative people, even if they have power! Stay positive. Be thankful. Show your worth by serving others, with or without support and encouragement. You are making a difference!!! #EdPiper#TLAP#JoyfulLeaders#KidsDeserveIt

If you look at the most ineffective leaders you know, they are likely very shallow in their connection of ideas & practice. I read to grow in wisdom & knowledge. I'm not interested in quoting books & articles. I am interested in using them to help solve problems. #EdPiper
A1: Reading is growing. Reading is believing in something greater than ourselves. Thinking comes from reading and thinking promotes innovation and ideas. #edpiper
A1: It gives a new perspective on ideas. It allows an "escape" from your normal routine to learn how to better your routine (if that makes sense) #edpiper
R1: great books make me think the same way convos like this do. @gcouros and @PrincipalKafele are two phenomenal educators that make me think and make me strive to be better in the classroom for my Ss. #EDpiper

A1: Education is ever evolving and as the leader of my school, I must demonstrate my willingness to continue to learn, to be better than I am. I have to model that for everyone, adults and kids. #EDpiper
A2: Modeling a reading environment, offering choice in what teacher's read...encourage adult book clubs, foster & encourage the atmosphere. Helps with promoting culture and climate, as well as supporting the vision and mission of campus and district. #edpiper
Indicators of successful people vs unsuccessful people. Reading, sharing info, exuding joy - all associated with success. Hording info, fearing change, holding a grudge - not so good. Be a reader! Share what you know! Be joyful! #EdPiper
A2: I loan out my books if there's something I think speaks to someone...I share what I've read via SM and specifically within presentations I do #EDpiper
A2: We have done campus book studies. I have shared books with others. I would like to do more to foster book clubs. @Owl_b_TorresEdu and I share with our teachers as much as possible. #EDpiper
A teacher recently shared some math instructional coaching books with me which lead to some conversations about reads I was also able to share with her about mathematical mindset. In turn we started a Google Site to share and send resources together. #edpiper
We just finished a book study over Carol Dweck's "Mindset". This was a great start to promoting #growthmindset on our campus, plus it really helped us connect as a school community. #EDpiper
A2: Hey everyone! Justin 4th grade teacher from Baltimore jumping in for one question! I created a personal library of books to share with staff in our classroom. #edpiper
For me, reading is about improving yourself. Before I suggest a book, I want to know where/how you want to grow. I like group book studies to improve as a team, but they shouldn't replace personalized professional reading. #EdPiper#growth
A3: My professors wrote this book and I sincerely love all the research connections it makes to how trust influences so many measurable factors in schools. #edpiper
This was a great book we read last year as a book study during our Principals' Meetings. I loved it! I highly suggest everyone read this one or the newer edition called The Multiplier Effect. This is not just a book for school leaders. #EDpiper
A4: I am currently reading, "The Reading Strategies Book", because I want to offer my students more sound tools and strategies. So, I would definitely recommend it to anyone teaching reading. #edpiper
Great article @edutopia on Dyslexia, what it is, what it’s not and strength based AT solutions to allow Dyslexics excellence! Shout out to Decoding Dyslexia too! https://t.co/JU0rRJfSM2
Amen and amen and amen!!!! Looks like a great read. When leaders care enough to build trust, the work is focused on the work instead of on the personal differences of the people trying to lead it. #EDpiper#cultureoftrust
A5: Good to Great; Grit; The Leadership Challenge; The Ideal Team Player; Mindset; the list goes on and on...@DBUPatriots has been a great doctoral program for capacity building #edpiper
This is a new leadership book by Morten T. Hansen @MortenTHansen called #GreatAtWork I'm not finished yet, but it ranks as one of my top resources now. #EDpiper
A6:
I have been following some blogger posts on how to for digital stuff this year, but I probably need to read a more pedagogical book to remind myself of why technology and how technology integration is so crucial. #edpiper
I saw him my first year of teaching and it has helped frame my teaching. He's also quoted from an interview we conducted in our dissertation. What a great guy to talk to! #edpiper

Finding time for professional reading is challenging, but don't let time be your barrier. For me, waking up earlier works. Some of my friends read at night or on their lunch break. Some listen to audio books or carry a book in their purses. #EDpiper
Sometimes blogs give you as much, if not more, info than a book. It’s current and real time. Some of my follows from #INeLearn have great blogs. @AmyHeavin@mltolin are a couple. #EDpiper
A7: I intend to finish Leaders Eat Last, and at least make it through Starts With Why. Anything beyond that is a bonus while writing Chapters 4 and 5. #edpiper
A7: Got a pretty hefty Amazon cart going right now, inc. The Wild Card, Leaders Eat Last, Grit in the Classroom, Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth, Hacking Early Learning, Behavior: The Forgotten Curriculum #EDpiper#donationsneeded
A7: I am planning on trying to do more self-educating on coding this summer. I want to do this so I can teach my son about coding. I know it will be important for his future to have these experiences and we have not had them. #edpiper
I tried it once but ended up highlighting virtually every other sentence. Then I was too focused on the highlighting that I lost sight of what I was actually reading #ADD#edpiper
Energy Bus is a great book to discuss moving forward together with a unified vision. Is everyone on your bus heading in the same direction? Are there people who need to find a better fit bus? It's not fair to keep bus riders who are not headed in the same direction. #EdPiper
