#2ndaryELA is a group of middle and high school English Language Arts teachers looking to share ideas and best practices. We chat every Tuesday night at 8 pm EST using #2ndaryELA. We'd love for you to join us!
I'm excited to join my first Twitter Chat! I am getting my Masters in Secondary Ed at @UMich and teaching high school ELA in Ann Arbor. No blog, yet :) #2ndaryELA
A1: I'm currently gaga for Escape Rooms, particularly as an engaging review before a test. Here's a picture of my Lord of the Flies Escape Room. Ss love working together to solve these puzzles! #2ndaryELA
A1 I am obsessed with digital breakouts and my students love the challenge. I use them to review literary elements and preview or review texts. #2ndaryELA
My name is Rachel Lowe & I currently teach 6th grade ELA. I am studying Social Media in #EDET543 w/ @dianadell. We're learning about Twitter chat. #2ndaryELA
This sounds like a great class! If you haven't joined us before, this is a weekly chat with a different topic each week. I'm hosting tonight! Welcome, Rachel! #2ndaryELA
I'm totally obsessed, but I haven't gotten into actual boxes much - I've been focused on the puzzles. Have you ever played a live escape room? So fun! #2ndaryELA
A2: I love trivia, and wanted to bring that joy to my students. I made a daily trivia bell ringer and students work in the same teams all month. This has really increased collaboration, team spirit, and punctuality! #2ndaryELA
A1: We've made writing bingo recently! It's an individual thing, but it makes writing a bit more enjoyable. #2ndaryela
B-I-N-G-O... in the classroom? https://t.co/3GKRnCo70d via @JJ_Burry
The concept is the same, but students actually receive some code or combination at the end of each puzzle. They can then unlock an actual box. #2ndaryELA
A2 : I use Kahoot! which is an online game that I mainly use as review. The kids are extremely engaged and they always ask when we are going to play #2ndaryela
A3: I make sure puzzles are based on standards. For example, each Escape Room task students complete is aligned to a skill, like sequencing plot events or identifying characterization. #2ndaryELA

This one has a SURPRISE collaborative task at the end that mirrors some of the themes of Lord of the Flies - lots of fun when kids figure out they have to work together! #2ndaryELA
First, I played a LOT of live-action ones. I figured out how to make apply to ELA content, and now I sell them on TpT. My first one was Romeo & Juliet and students review plot, char, theme, and a close read. #2ndaryELA
A5: I've written about other types of puzzles I use (like mechanical tanglement puzzles!) on my blog. You can check that post out here: https://t.co/fZ8iJSc0M1#2ndaryELA
Sometimes when the game starts A LOT of unfamiliar names will fill the room or you will start playing and there are 50 people in the game, but only your students signed up to play---even when set to private. The kids say it is a hacker. #2ndaryELA

Oh, you are wonderful! So... I will tell our tech person and see what we can figure out about blocking the extension. I am also going to find that video... #2ndaryELA
