A1: Truthfully, my mission and motto is to WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER. I need to do a better job of keeping myself grounded and reducing my stress. I am also trying to be a better co-teacher for my inclusion kids; my learning support kids always get the best of me. #masterychat

A1: my goal is to expand the community of stakeholders involved in my students' work this year. A richer network offers more topics that can be mastered! #MasteryChat

A1:

This year my school is going to ramp up #culture and #celebrations big and small. We will make our school a place where #students love to learn and parents feel proud to send their children! #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A1 - My vision for the upcoming school year is to not teach in front of my class at all. I am going to teach through all self paced activities. I even have a Day 1 playlist to get Ss familiar with my class rules and procedures. Everything will be self-motivated.
A1 We have a lot of things going on next year…Goal is to focus on connection and hope is to excite people about the challenges we are taking on #MasteryChat
A1: To learn from previous yrs, laugh at myself, and make my Ss better at French (speaking, reading, listening comprehension, and writing) than I was at their age. #MasteryChat
A1: To provide a multi tiered system of supports and safety nets for our students. We need to catch them before they fall too far behind. To do this my goal is to provide my Ts with lots of support and the easily accessible resources to target student weaknesses. #MasteryChat
A1: My vision for the 2018/19 school year is to position myself as a co-learner alongside my Ss & be part of the learning excitement! Also create a caring & trusting environment that Ss want to be part of everyday. #MasteryChat
A1. I think our vision and mission will be concentrating on Ss voice, choice, and leading in their learning and activities along with building those relationships! #masterychat
This is something I wish my new school did better... I’d love to take the initiative but don’t know how to ask. EX: We have an Instagram but no posts! We should showcase our awesomeness! #MasteryChat
A1 Some goals include to help support/guide my kids as they enter 7th, 8th and 10th grades; to bring voice to teachers' stories from across the country and help them tell connect with audiences—with impact + celebrate successes in #education. #masterychat#masterychat
A1: To connect with as many kids as possible this year. To stay the course & not throw in the towel when I'm tired. To have patience with the kids who struggle. #MasteryChat
A1: I am going to focus on the art of thinking, learning and metacognition. I want students to leave my classroom who have the capability to learn ANYTHING....and love math! <3 #masterychat#mathchat#iteachalgebra
A1: My vision this year is to provide as much college exposure to my students. College talks, visits, and career exploration just to name a few. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat I’m a high school math teacher and I teach an inner city school district. My motto is to be the teacher my students deserve. I just got trained to teach AP Computer Science this school year. Trying a whole new subject! And AP!! #APCSP
You will love it. Flipped my classes 7 years ago and have never looked back (except to shared my mental shift). So much time to build relationships and do things that are hard to do when lecturing. #MasteryChat
A1 - my mission for 2018-2019 is to help my Ss #ChangetheNarrative and give them the social and emotional tools as well as academics to achieve their goals #MasteryChat
A1: Kindness Kudos to spread the positive vibes amongst all As Ts Ps and Ss. When a strong foundation is built w/ relationships everything else reaches epic proportions! #Nan3EDU#masterychat
A1: I am returning to teach after being away for 4 years as a math coach. My goal us to keep my head above water...new grade...never taught primary!#MasteryChat
A2 - I'm excited about all the new teachers we have implememting #thegridmethod and #teachfurther! I love hearing stories of success and getting T's outside of their comfort zone so they can GROW! #MasteryChat
A2: I am most excited about the chance to forge new relationships with staff and students. I am very excited to be able to join and administrative team passionate about doing what is right for kids. #masterychat
A2: I'm excited about things I have not done before:
- building a formative assessment resource website
- creating virtual reality lessons
#masterychat
A1: My vision this year is to provide as much college exposure to my students. College talks, visits, and career exploration just to name a few. #MasteryChat
Doesn't hurt to ask. Easier said than done sometimes I know, but maybe make friends with someone who runs the tech stuff at your school and start there 🤷🏻♀️ #MasteryChat
A2: What I am most excited about this school year is the co-teaching opportunities I have! I can't wait to collaborate with passionate educators at my new school @SpidersCHS#MasteryChat
A2 I am most excited about going back into the classroom. Bringing a new energy, new adventures, transformation, amplifying student voice and choice and storytelling on social media. This year will be EPIC!! #MasteryChat
A1. My vision/mission/motto- We are a family first❤️ building that culture is a MUST! #empower my kids & continue to #amplify their voice- give them #choice & have them in the driver’s seat! I am there as their supporter, advocate, cheerleader, friend ALWAYS! #masterychat
A2: I am most excited about having a new role in a new school. Through my developing PLN, I have come across some great ideas. The best one, connect with Ts and Ss to build those relationships and a positive culture where everyone loves to be. #MasteryChat
A2 I’m on leave this year to write and give workshops on integrating #SEL into academics, so I’m excited about digging deeper into that work. #MasteryChat
A2 There is so much to be excited for this year! Starting a new position at an amazing school, making plans to help hundreds more teachers find their own version of "better" and working towards that, writing a book, planning a #TeachBetter conference. So much! #masterychat
A2: I'm most excited to co-teach a few hours of 8th grade physical science. I've never worked with middle schoolers before, both terrifying and exciting. #masterychat
A2: I am most excited for the opportunity to hopefully make a difference in my students' lives. I attended ISU which truly prepared me well, but I know that the first year will have its ups and downs. I want to inspire my Ss to be the best version of themselves. #masterychat
A2: I am most excited about working with students who need a little extra support & motivation! Building relationships is SO important & many kids lack support at home. I hope to be that source at school for them. Also, getting into the classrooms more! #masterychat
A1: My mission for 2018-2019 is to engage my kids in more authentic learning that is focused on more conceptual learning less memorization, really analyze myself if my procedures are for compliance or learning and to connect with families more #masterychat
A1 My vision: do whatever it takes to support students, to amplify learning and to bring back the fun in the HS classroom. Transformation is happening! #MasteryChat
Q2 THE KIDS! I am so excited to meet my learners and put faces/personalities/people to the names on my roster. It’s going to be an exciting year! 😍 #MasteryChat
A2 I'm most excited to start coalescing all of the amazing ideas I have gathered over the last year to build a more cohesive and inclusive classroom! #MasteryChat
Helping to lead the charge into district wide standards based grading as a district coach and core transition team member. Get out of the points mindset and into the growth mindset. #MasteryChat
A2 - Meeting and getting to know my Ss and their families, working with the Ts and building on those relationships, and seeing what we learn together! #MasteryChat
A2: I’m most excited to dig deeper into technology integration this year. I’ll have full class sets of laptops and iPads, so I’m looking forward to exploring and letting the kids discover new apps, websites, etc. #MasteryChat
A2 I'm excited to have a second year with the curriculum I wrote last year. The dress rehearsal is always shaky; I think the execution is going to be much better the second time around. I'm looking forward to reflecting, evaluating, and watching my Ss thrive. #masterychat
A2 I am really excited to get back to my classroom and keep going with some of the changes that I made last year that were positive and had really great benefits for Ss #masterychat
A2 I am most excited about trying to incorporate the community and the stewardship projects we have planned to beautify our grounds while teaching about the importance of keeping our waterways clean and how to. #MasteryChat
A2: It sounds cliche' but I'm excited about the possibilities a new year and a new batch of scholars brings. I'm also excited about transitioning to a student-led classroom #masterychat
A2I am pumped to be teaching science again. I am pumped for Maker to grow even more in my class and I am stoked to get the community more involve with the learning process in my class.
#masterychat
Providing my teachers more resources and support to help our students learn. We are working hard to set ourselves up for success this year through collaboration and hard work. #MasteryChat#KidsDeserveIt
A2: I am most excited about bringing new life into my teaching and applying all of my new knowledge learned while coaching the past 4 yrs. A bit nervous, too. #MasteryChat
A2 visiting and working with teachers... I love seeing what awesomeness others are doing. I also look forward to providing support to these teachers as they are challenged to step out of their comfort zones #MasteryChat
A2: I know this sounds odd.... but having an admin @m_schoeneberger be in my room for 2nd Period when she isn’t busy.... oh, and #passion projects.... also hoping to get some of my ss to make me chocolate cake. Let the hinting start.... NOW!!! #masterychat
A2) I am most excited to make relationships with more than just my class. Departmentalizing will allow me to get to know students throughout the grade and really focus on making epic math lessons. It will be a learning curve, but I am so excited to get started! #MasteryChat
A2: now that I'm not a newbie anymore, I'm looking forward to leveraging more of the University opportunities to help me students execute their vision for each project. #MasteryChat
This will be my second with 6th grade. I was excited to have them last year, but this year I feel like I might actually know what I’m doing with them. They’ll have more control & more structure (and a more confident teacher!) #masterychat
Hey everyone! Sorry I'm late! I'm Chris. I'm in upstate NY and I used to work in adult ed in the nuclear field. Looking forward to the chat! #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A2 Pt 2 - Also, the K-8 Math Instructional Coach position at my district became available, and I am applying. Lots of possibilities! Fingers Crossed!!!
A2. I’m most excited about working with a new principal who so far is amazing! I’m ready to enhance my administrative knowledge and experience! #MasteryChat#JoyfulLeaders
A2: Implementing the philosophy of @IMSEOG in out building K-3. Classroom Ts, myself, IC and reading interventionist have been trained. Excited to see the progress our students make. #masterychat
A2 Tika from Las Vegas jumping in late😳but couldn’t miss #Masterychat! I most excited about working with my Ss. I haven’t served 2nd graders and their families in years. I am also excited to collaborate w/ our staff. #Masterychat
A2. I am so pumped to be a first year teacher, learning, growing, trying new things, asking questions, and living the dream I have wanted since 8th grade! #masterychat
A2: I'm excited to meet my new kids, to really dig deep into using Seesaw (and continue the answer global connections I started last year with Mystery Skype and FlipGrid) and I'm super excited to teach our "before" school program in two weeks! #masterychat
A3 - My biggest fear is not doing EVERYTHING I possibly can to help educators #teachbetter. I want to reach every classroom in this country and falling short of that goal is my greatest fear #MasteryChat
A3: My biggest fear is not living up to the "hype". I feel like there is a lot of positive feedback surrounding me and I do not want to let anyone down. #masterychat
A3 The same fear I have every school year - That people will decide that I'm not actually that good at this whole teacher thing and that it will all fall down around my ears #masterychat
Middleschoolers....... Honestly, classroom management. My style of teaching favors getting up and moving around - highschoolers can deal with that. I worry about middle schoolers getting a bit too wild. #masterychat
A3: Not a fear, but an experienced anticipation of hearing any of the following motivators:
"You can't do that."
"We don't have the budget"
"We've never done that before"
Challenge accepted.
#masterychat
#masterychat - A3 - I think with all of the changes I am making in my classroom, I always have the self-doubt that I am doing what is best for my students. I always double guess myself whenever I go against the grain and do things differently than the teachers around me.
A3 That I won’t be enough. Especially being the new guy. I think it’s a common fear amongst educators as we are often very passionate about what we do and care a great deal. That self doubt or anxiety can weigh you down. #MasteryChat
A3. My biggest fear is the unknown. As a new teacher there are so many questions, I can easily get overwhelmed. I am thankful for a great school and a great twitter #pln#masterychat
A3: I have so much I want to do! I’m scared that I may try too much and get lost and not be able to implement something at the highest level I’d expect from myself. I have over half of my team that is new, and so I want to support them and develop myself. #MasteryChat
A3: My biggest fear is letting down our students! We make decisions every day that influence them (both educationally and personally). I always want to do what is best by students, & hope they realize how much we want them to successfull. #masterychat
A3 Biggest fear is trying too much at once and not following through, sometimes I have so many ideas and want to just go with them all, need to slow down a bit #masterychat
A3 - My biggest fear is running out of time. We really do not have enough time when you crunch those numbers. I want to make every second count! #MasteryChat
Related to my a2 - staff reluctance and even pushback to the standards based grading transition. That and leading s book study with Grading from the Inside Out. #MasteryChat
A3: My biggest fear is to get bogged down with content (Math) and regress to a disseminator of Content and formulas as oppose to a facilitator of problem solving and understanding #masterychat
A2: The new changes happening in my building. Working on PBIS, PBL, book studies, moving beyond what we’ve always done & felt comfortable with & being willing to take risks and “change from status quo to status WOAH!” #MasteryChat
Same! I keep hearing people say that they’ve heard such good things. I have big feet but the shoes I’m filling are big and so is my reputation so far. #MasteryChat
A3: To be honest, I am fearful of a lot of things. I think that new teacher excitement is still going strong, but the anticipation is kicking in. I want to be the best teacher I can be, and I am lucky to have a lot of support, but that fear and doubt exists. #masterychat
A3) I won't be able to make a strong enough bond with my class because I won't have them for all subjects. I won't be able to make strong enough connections with all the students. #MasteryChat
A3 My biggest fear for this year is getting overwhelmed and letting things slip through the cracks. I have a lot going on and I want to do it all justice! #masterychat
A3: My biggest fear is not being able to serve all students.
However, If I work closely with all teachers who are serving my #ELs I could impact more than I would on my own
#masterychat
#MasteryChat My biggest fear is missing too much school with my wife expecting our second child. I know I need to be there for my AP Ss. But also excited to meet my second daughter! 👍😁
A3 My biggest fear is always failure of reaching my babies. People don't realize how daunting it is to hold 20-30 little minds and hearts in your hands. I want so badly to help them soar to their next level. #MasteryChat#LoveMyBabies#LoveMyJob
A3- also because my schedule is crazy not giving ts my full attention! I will need to put the computer down and focus on the teacher! :) one of my personal goals. #masterychat
A3 My biggest fear is the same every year - that I'm not cutting it. I'm afraid my students will be bored and further resent reading and writing. I'm also always afraid I do not meet my co-teachers expectations when I push in. #masterychat
A3: I'd say biggest fear (as a introvert!) is building relationships with new staff. I'm optimistic and think it's going to go well but the unknown always make me fearful! #masterychat
A3 Not being able to live up to my promises and dreams for students. I want to give them the world. We will see how far I can go. I will not accept no as an answer. #MasteryChat
A3: there are lots of changes going on around campus this year. Some come very rarely. I am afraid I will miss an opportunity that I will regret once it is passed... #MasteryChat
A3: My biggest fear is not living up to the "hype". I feel like there is a lot of positive feedback surrounding me and I do not want to let anyone down. #masterychat
A3: My fear is that we won’t make the gains that we need to. However, I have faith in the vision we have set forth & am willing to do whatever it takes! Leaving nothing on the table! #masterychat
A3. Same fear that haunts me as a teacher every year. That I won't be able to create the most equitable and engaging experience for every kid. All Means All. Educating kids... failure is not an option. #relentless#masterychat
A3.2) I also fear running out of time. Since we are switching I have to be really cognisant of the time and I know that will be hard for me. #MasteryChat
Such a valid and relatable fear! Being aware makes us intentional. The fact that you can identify it as a fear makes it that much less of something that would become reality. #MasteryChat
A3: My biggest fear is not giving each student the opportunity to grow in math. I want to provide that #growthmindset where no matter the level of the student, they have multitude of opportunities #kidsdeserveit#masterychat
A1: My mission for this year as a parent is to be as involved as possible with my childrens' school.
I'm also looking to collaborate with #STEM educators who are doing lessons on nuclear power or electronics this year, so if that's you let me know! #MasteryChat
Hi All! I'm Andrea, a principal in AL. My summer epiphany occurred during a camp field trip funded through #CCLC. My students ventured to new sites and had new experiences. They can now make those connections to learning because we made EXPOSURE a priority. #masterychat
I am most excited to create a positive culture where students thrive! A culture that emphasizes that every student is able to learn, grow and succeed. #masterychat
A3: I have no fears! If I fail, it’s just my first Attempt in Learning. No where to go but up! I have my PLN for support, and my school team behind me. #MasteryChat@SSCMSStallions
A3 The 1st thing I always think about when it comes to fears is violent intruders. Maybe a little irrational, but everyone always thinks it will never happen to their school. You can have all the training and practice but not know how you’ll react in the situation. #MasteryChat
A3: (Jumping in late, but at least I made it!) I’m most afraid that the new, innovative things I’m trying will fail and admins/other Ts will blame it on innovation. #MasteryChat
A2. Wow! That’s a loaded question!can’t wait 2 meet my kids, start globally collaborating w/friends around 🌎 use the AWESOME @Flipgrid & @nightzookeeper which have been revamped, having fun learning using classroom transformations & OMG Insert➡️ scream soo excited!#masterychat
I struggle with this too. It can be easy to get caught up in everything else and loose sight of this who we actually serve. Have to remember to shoot an azimuth regularly. #MasteryChat
A3: I have such supportive admin that nothing in the classroom scares me. #truestory. I can talk candidly about anything with them. My fears are more personal, Like my nanny quitting or not showing up or not making it through the year without having knee surgery. #masterychat
A3 I am most worried about managing my time. There is so much I want to do, but I know I can’t add it all at once. I also have to take time for myself and my family #MasteryChat
A3: No fear... I’m the crazy redhead ready for it all no matter what that entails! Taking risks is what makes me tick... a little cray cray here 🤣 #MasteryChat
A3: biggest fear happens about every year in my school - new staff and getting everyone up and going at full speed ahead. We have about 9 new teachers. We will do it, we always come together and make it work. #masterychat
I hear a lot of teachers stressing over being perfect or getting it right. Embrace the errors that will improve your practice and sharpen your perspective. Trade in perfection for effectiveness.
#MasteryChat
I truly appreciate the real and heart-felt responses to Q3. You all lift me up, and although I wonder if I am enough for my students, I need to realize that, if I keep my kids on the forefront of my mind, I will be fine. #masterychat
A4 I’m on week 4 in my new school/district. But what sold me on this district and made me want to be a part of LCPS is that it’s truly kids first and we work together and we work hard. #MasteryChat
Your last sentence is so important and I see educators (myself included) regularly under prioritizing this time with our family and ourself. Our students deserve our best selves, which means we need “me time” #MasteryChat
A3 I am most worried about managing my time. There is so much I want to do, but I know I can’t add it all at once. I also have to take time for myself and my family #MasteryChat
A4)I love that we are like a https://t.co/bHKJ898ihe an international school,/2 our Ts leave their countries to teach here.We become family. #masterychat
A4: There are SO many things I love about my district...for example, we just completed 3 weeks of summer camp for students 1-3 grade!! How amazing is that!?!?
#masterychat
A4: I love how huge my classroom is, how many opportunities I have at my school, my amazing coworkers, and the quality PD offered through my district @my_pcs#MasteryChat
I've always been able to catch up or be flexible with my time teaching just my class but I have two other classes depending on me so it will be different. #masterychat
A4: Something I love about my school and district is the people. SO many amazing educators spreading the positive and kindness while pushing Ss to be their best.
#masterychat
A4 I loved my #kinder Ss & they're families. I loved seeing them grow throughout my year with them & beyond. I look forward to loving many more Ss this year across many grade levels. #MasteryChat
A4: Ready for a change! I've already met with my two classroom aides and the family social worker. We're all on the same page about kids and what they need. #masterychat
You should read the book The ONE Thing! It helps you plan and prioritize when you have a million things on your to-do list. #mustread#Masterychat#TheOneThing
A4 - I love my huge classroom! (So many possibilities) My supportive administration, and a district that encourages and supports community engagement! #WEareLakota#MasteryChat
For all the positive differences you make here on Twitter and with your #Edusations, for so many people I know you make a positive difference for the students in your classroom and builidng. #masterychat
A4 I love my students! They are all crazy at times but they all feel like my kids, and surprise me with their intelligence, perseverance and character at times!#masterychat
#masterychat - A4 - My district really has doubled down on technology. We have a 1-to-1 initiative as well as our own #blendedlearning conference. Also, Rhode Island really has some great things going on with #edtech. I have been here 3 years and I have grown immensely.
A4 I loved my former classroom because we designed it to reflect our class novel HUGO CABRET by creating the atmosphere of the train station in the classroom. This year, I'll be on a cart, but it is going to be the most pimped out cart you've ever seen. #masterychat
A4: I love the fact that my school has amazing colleagues who already made me feel welcome during orientation in June. One of the teachers took me to another classroom due to that teacher having extra supplies and helped me choose which ones would be beneficial. #masterychat
A4: I love how much our district supports teachers! @OCPSnews has SO many resources to support our vision & mission to be the top producer of successful students! Forever grateful for a network of educators who have a common goal! @ocpsPL@OCPSSecCandI#masterychat
A4 I'm moving to a new position, so I'll let you know in a few months! Maybe @ItsAMrY can help me out here since he has been working there for a while! #masterychat
A4: I love the opportunity that I have been given... New Ts with eagerness to engage and grow, returning Ts that are open to change and ready to grow more, and an admin team that is supportive and open and ready to dive into a huge transition year! #MasteryChat
A4: I love the professional freedom we each have to follow out passion and push the envelope with how we build a curriculum. I feel empowered and respected. #MasteryChat
research supports co-teaching!! We need to do what's best for students EVEN if we're not comfortable about it...its not easy but its doable! #masterychat
In reply to
@wendytiedt, @AdamAuerbach, @SpidersCHS
A4 I love how much our school has started to embrace #deeperlearning and how we are becoming even more supportive of one another, encouraging risk-taking and building stronger relationships #masterychat
A4 I love that my classroom becomes home to my children. We learn where we feel safe. I love that my school feels like a community and I can go to anyone. I love that my district allows me to try new things because they recognize that children learn differently. #MasteryChat
Yes, @Jhaywardtwit! Embrace curiosity and learning. And: you are enough. The mindset that you are enough does not mean that we don't keep learning (#growthmindset), but rather it allows us to keep learning. #masterychat
I hear a lot of teachers stressing over being perfect or getting it right. Embrace the errors that will improve your practice and sharpen your perspective. Trade in perfection for effectiveness.
#MasteryChat
A4 I love the teachers who collaborate and support each other. Those same teachers are the ones who are the kindest because they know that #KidsDeserveIt#masterychat
A4 I’m a new teacher, so I haven’t even met all of my coworkers yet. But I did get into my classroom this week, and I love all of the built-in STORAGE! I have a ton of cabinets! 😂 #MasteryChat
A4: I like that everyone in my program is motivated to help students succeed. I’m even more excited that most of our staff have similar backgrounds to our students. #masterychat
#masterychat a2 In #Melbourne we are at the 3/4 mark of a school year but what is exciting is seeing my ss advocating for change, standing up for themselves and their futures. Brave enough to email @JamesMerlinoMP who is our Minister for Education. #deafcan#auslan
A4: that I am encouraged to be myself. That nobody tells me to be quiet when I sing. I am encouraged to take risks and admin gives me space to try out some of my ideas! And if I were eating chocolate cake right now, they would probably make me one of those , too! #masterychat
A4:I love my classroom because it's old and worn out, so anything I do to it is an improvement (our new school opens next year)I love my Sc because I work with incredible pple and I LOVE our Ss I love my Dt because 99.5% of our people are so darn kind and friendly #masterychat
You got this Emily! Remember you just need to focus on the standards and allow for them to choose how they show mastery! That is when we connect with ALL Ss! #MasteryChat
A2: This year I'm most excited about continuing to build a community between parents and educators.
We're a team and our kids' success depends on us working together.
#ParentsAndTeachersUnite#MasteryChat

A4 I love the kids and the energy. They have always given me the drive to be more, to break status quo, to go further and to think differently. They help me push limits, to have fun and to break free from traditions. #MasteryChat
A4 I teach in the district I attended as a student. I love my hometown and I have always felt it was important to give back. I have been teaching at my school since 2000; in the district since 1999. My Ss know that I graduated from our high school and it connects us. #MasteryChat
A4: I love that I’m given the freedom to be ME in the classroom! I’m able to push boundaries, bring in creative lessons, & take our lesson beyond our 4 walls through #globalcollaboration. I’m not stuck in a box! #masterychat

A2: I’m most excited to try new things. Deliberately democratizing my class so that collective student voice is “louder” than mine - as it should be! #MasteryChat
A4) I love my classroom decor! I have updated it every year adding more to my hockey theme but I love how I can use hockey in my lessons or as a modivator to finish quick check math drills #MasteryChat
A4 I LOVE learning new things from my students each day, and I am glad that my district supports me in taking risks and trying new strategies to meet the needs of each child. #MasteryChat
Yes! So important for Ts to see the amazing resource right in front of them. Just like we hope to do amazing things for Ss, they can do amazing things for us! #masterychat
Making sure we have a healthy classroom culture that is reflectively our school’s positive community-based culture without being too domineering or strict #masterychat
Always nice when you are given the space and encouraged to take risks, break the molds, and be YOU in a learning environment! Great way to spark innovation! #masterychat
A3: That the plan and vision I have for this year isn’t successful. It is a change from the approach from our last 2 years. I’m working hard to involve stakeholders and create buy in but will likely find naysayers. #Bepatient#MasteryChat
I love how many of us seem to be in such incredible, supportive schools. Mine may not quite be there YET, but this gives me hope and feeds my optimism. #MasteryChat
A5: Creating new partnerships for Winton Woods in the community. I want to help spread the word about all the great things staff and students are doing. I want to create experiences that enrich our students lives.
#masterychat
A5 - I'm going to try and work on continuing to make more great content, courses, and trainings to help educators #teachbetter and provide them easy access so that we can ALL reach more students! #MasteryChat
A5: Being an instructional coach literally a guide on the side. Haha. I just really want to encourage others and share my passion for ed tech. #masterychat
A3. Biggest fear every year is not reaching EVERY child! Every kid is mine no matter behavior, disability- always ability & my job to teach & love to the fullest - I want them to LOVE school & know its a safe home where The FUN happens ➡️insert learning🧠❤️🤗💗#masterychat
A5: We're launching short length online PD for our teachers and, one a more personal note, I'm making a goal to not eat lunch alone (always be out and building relationships).

A5: To make it into classrooms more frequently & get out of my office! There is SO much amazing teaching going on, on our campus & I want to be able to experience it! #masterychat
A5: Connect with all of my Ss. I want to have them write something about themselves on a notecard and use that to build off of throughout the year. As well, by mid year, I want to start connecting with 5th graders gearing up for middle school. #MasteryChat
Absolutely love that our kids challenge the adults with all that they can do. They are bright and eager...fertile ground to engage them in learning that aligns w their interests and passion. #masterychat
Susan you will ALWAYS be enough if you continue to grow with each day and every child! You are an EDUROCKSTAR... keep sharing your awesomeness! #MasteryChat
Q5: I’m going to preface every decision with a combination of “Who says” and “What if” - Who says it has to be this way and what if we try something different? #MasteryChat
A5 : The Grid Method & Teach Further Model (AKA Personalized Learning with Community Engagement implemented to emphasis the Why behind learning and the soft skills associated with each internship)
Teach the whole student #Masterychat@teachbetterteam
A4. I love that my school is focused on giving students the best possible experience while getting a quality education. #masterychat#StudentsFirst#OceansOfFun
A4: I appriciate my principal in the fact that we have a very open and transparent relationship. I can go to him and have conversations that he will think and reflect about and then come back to me to talk some more. #masterychat
A2 I’m excited to step out and hopefully build my brand as a professor and professional development expert this year— already have two district wide sessions under my belt! Sessions I created and facilitated based on my own interests. First time in my career. #masterychat
Every unit in my anatomy class will be PBL or test, student choice. All learning activities (except flipped video assignments and labs) will be student choice. #MasteryChat
A5 My new addition to my teaching practice this year is adding in the #teachfurther approach for real world relevance in learning to #thegridmethod mastery learning framework I know and love. I'm pretty pumped :) #masterychat
A5: I will try to eat the English peas in the cafe without gagging..Oh my bad! I'm trying blended learning in Math. Excited and terrified at the same time #masterychat
A5: I'll be using a new book that focuses on richer modeling techniques. I want to offer my math students the chance to develop disciplinary mastery just like my science students. #MasteryChat
A5: Going to be more consistent with my blog & sharing the journey that I’m looking forward to take this year. I’m ready to take risks, try things I’ve never done before, and reflect on every step along the way. https://t.co/pw0cyLOXVp#masterychat
Lack of balance, stress, and burn out. Last year I worked harder not smarter, and I'm hoping to change that this year! #MasteryChathttps://t.co/N3VicX1cBW
A5 I am going to try to finish and implement the Grid Method and I am planning a Teach Further unit that I can use as well. I'm so excited!! #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A5 - I am going to use @seesaw to have Ss create SMART goals at the beginning of the year. Then they will post their projects/assessments to share with their parents as well as provide audio reflection on how they are progressing towards their goals
A4.3) I love how my school comes together to decorate our building each year to a theme and create funny assemblies to get Ss excited about things like PARCC, reading challenges, and behavior rewards #MasteryChat
Susan you will ALWAYS be enough if you continue to grow with each day and every child! You are an EDUROCKSTAR... keep sharing your awesomeness! #MasteryChat
A5 I’m planning to attend more conferences outside the field of education. How do scientists, artists, and activists approach their work in ways educators can learn from? #MasteryChat
A5: I'm going to flip my class for my 6th graders this year. I think this will help make their transition to middle school a bit easier :) #masterychat
A5: I’m implementing some new approaches in my classroom that I’m excited about. Will be a learning curve for me! Also, planning to incorporate more STEM! #masterychat
A5: Be in classrooms more frequently so I have a better pulse on the day to day instruction being delivered. I need to be a better instructional leader #MasteryChat
A5 Our 5/6 team is getting a 3D printer and 10 @Raspberry_Pi this year, and I’ve never used either! So I am excited to implement PBL with those...
Also, does anyone have good resources/sample projects/tips for those tools? I’m not exaggerating by saying I’m a novice #MasteryChat
#masterychat a5 I'm already pushing for better ways to promote, share, teach our sign language #Auslan. I'd love for us to have all the options that English takes for granted, oh and #captions@DETVic@MSAUedu@Flipgrid
In meantime working on my YOutube videos, ala mini GOTG
A4: My class is between the 6gr Ts who have an amazing wealth of knowledge/experience and the rest of the WL teachers who are invaluable. My school is always striving to give our Ss the best in every way. & our district loves World Languages and makes us a priority! #masterychat
A5: I just purchased @joboaler math tasks for 4th grade due to a former professor emailing me to make sure that I knew it was out. I am receiving it tomorrow and plan on emphasizing a growth mindset in my classroom. I am a HUGE fan of @joboaler. #masterychat
A5 More reteaching and guidance in the inclusion classes. More meaningful support and less chasing kids for work. Morning workouts. Healthier lunches. #masterychat
A4: Our school uses the 5 Common Topics to open Ss mind & I love that approach and so glad to be at a school w/ a more #classicaleducation#socratic#iteachalgebra approach to teaching the material It's pretty amazing, everyone is willing to help & support each other!#masterychat
A5: Now that @Flipgrid is free for educators I am really going to work to get Ts and Ss to use it more, espeically to help tell our story. Its quick and easy and really helps to put the human touch to the community. #masterychat
A3: I wouldn't call it a fear, but the thing I worry about most is the influence other kids can have in the moments when kids find themselves w/o supervision.
We chat with our kids daily to talk about respect and how to treat each other. #MasteryChat
A5: Since I use the workshop model, there is already tons of agency and choice for learners, but I want to amplify that even more, especially when it comes to HOW their summatives are created. #masterychat
A5: One thing? I’m doing alternative seating with #thegridmethod and sprinkling in growth mindset. This year is no toe dip in the pool, I’m going cannon ball!!! #masterychat
A4: I absolutely LOVE the positive energy of our students! They are givers from the heart ♥️ they raise money for others and show random acts of kindness to all. So inspiring! #VikingPride#Nan3EDU#MasteryChat#booksnaps#REALedu
A5: I must decrease ⬇️for my students to increase⬆️...gradual release of control and responsibility. (Sometimes I think too highly of myself...sometimes😂) #masterychat
A4. We are a Family ❤️. We are their for each other to support, advice, ear to listen, cheer, promote@risk taking and failing enthusiastically together! I love my family : my kids, parents, staff, community💗#masterychat
A5 Still thinking about that one :) Definitely going to continue more with flexible learning, stations, use #hyperdocs more, and push boundaries with #pbl even more #masterychat
Catching up on #MasteryChat
A2: I’m excited about engaging all Ss through cross-curricular activities, investigations, & inquiry. Giving all Ss a voice through tech (e.g., #Flipgrid) and other avenues.
A4: Supt and principal know #education is not about test scores and standards. They've said it to us as a staff. They back daring, kid focused education. They want more for our kids and have a higher expectation for us this year. #dothework#noBCD#MasteryChat
A4: Our district is awesome bc it's a single campus school. K-12 is all in one spot.
It's small town feel, but the kids have awesome class choices and extracurriculars. #MasteryChat
Letting my 6gr class design our classroom and establishing a social contract. I have gotten the sense that my Ss know how they want to be treated and are often aware of their affect on Ts. I want to know how they’ll react to those standards being in writing. #masterychat
I am constantly thinking of the power of yet while reading all your amazing responses. I am not there...yet, and that is okay. I am taking it one day at a time. Truly fueled by all the awesomeness that you all share. #inspired#masterychat
I am constantly thinking of the power of yet while reading all your amazing responses. I am not there...yet, and that is okay. I am taking it one day at a time. Truly fueled by all the awesomeness that you all share. #inspired#masterychat
A5. Something I’m going to try is doing check-in/check-outs with a few students everyday students as an incentive for positive behavior and to build relationships. Thank you for the idea @MrsLauraESmith#MasteryChat
Q4. I love that our school goes above and beyond in making sure that teachers have all the supplies and resources they need so that they can focus on student learning! #Masterychat
A2: Spent the summer fueling up for this year, not escaping last year. Dove into #tlap and created a #pln that has supercharged my drive, creativity, competitiveness, and helped me become a learner. Now...go time! #MasteryChat
A6 It is the learning and the relationship building that makes the difference. Sharing our journey, pushing boundaries, exchanging ideas, it is all about learning and growing as a community. The people I have connected with have made a huge impact in my life. #Masterychat
A6 - The #masterychat PLN is the nucleus of what the @teachbetteream sands for. Passionate, Driven, dedicated educators! With amazing people like all of you we CAN change education! #MasteryChat
A5: One thing I am going to do this year is speak at conferences! I am determined to make this happen... vulnerability keeps me on my toes! Always time to grow! #BetterTogether#Nan3EDU#MasteryChat
A4. We are a Family ❤️. We are their for each other to support, advice, ear to listen, cheer, promote@risk taking and failing enthusiastically together! I love my family : my kids, parents, staff, community💗#masterychat
A6 the great convos here can definitely be beneficial!! Creating an Twitter #PLN is a great tool! Keep exchanging and sharing ideas! #masterychat#iteachmath#MTBoS
A6 - Keep asking me critical questions to help me reflect and be a better teacher. Keep connecting educators so we can share, encourage, and motivate one another. If you could bottle #MasteryChat energy it would be worth gold!
A6: The more we share with each other, the more we grow and are inspired. Keep the chats going, and keep retweeting and spreading the awesomeness that everyone has going on! #masterychat
A6: The question is how hasn't #masterychat supported me? I am constantly inspired by @RaeHughart, @TechieTeachOtt, @chadostrowski, and @jeffgargas. They have truly been a saving grace and have blessed me with incredible opportunities. I cannot thank them enough for all they do.
A3: My biggest fear is being unprepared for the lesson/day. I know that being prepared is a big part of classroom management, but I also don’t want to rob Ss from a day of learning b/c I wasn’t ready. #MasteryChat
A6: I can't think of anything specific, but just Twitter chats in general are a great way to think through ideas, reflect on practice and connect with others (and the AMAZING ideas and suggestions teachers on twitter have) #masterychat
A6 The conversation and connections made can help grow me. One of the things I love about being connected is the power of my growth lies in my hands in the people I surround myself with and how we connect and talk #MasteryChat
A6: When we connect with fellow educators we have people that support us, understand what we’re feeling, & can provide a sounding board for ideas. #MasteryChat can support us through the connections available through chats.
A6 Continue with the chats! It allows a great place to share and receive ideas. I've learned of new apps, strategies, ideas, etc. I so appreciate you all!! #MasteryChat
A6 The conversation and connections made can help grow me. One of the things I love about being connected is the power of my growth lies in my hands in the people I surround myself with and how we connect and talk #MasteryChat
A6: Please just be there for any struggles that might come with this new position: new district. new teachers. New admin. Full-day preK. Head Start guidelines.... #masterychat
We restructured entire Response to Student Behavior, formerly known as a Discipline Plan to support Ss and Ts, teach appropriate behaviors, and develop strong relationships within our entire school community. I have never been this excited to start a school year! #masterychat
I read a great book on teaching and mindfulness (and of course can't remember the title) and one of their tips was to stop everything you're doing 10 minutes before your kids come in, so you are focused on your kids when they arrive. It's a goal for me!
A6 May be silly, but... I totally see myself being THAT teacher who sacrifices her personal life and practically lives at school. If #MasteryChat starts and I’m still at school, I had better get my buns home! 😂👍 Thanks for the support and ideas, folks! Love learning from you 😍
A5: I will try to integrate as much real world applications as possible into Algebra. I will use #estimation180#3acttasks & anything else I can find to make the math meaningful. I am also doing #Nohomework, Reflecting on what we learned. #masterychat
A6: the ability to connect with like minded people from all over the country allows us to feed each other ideas and strategies towards relationships and content that we can implement in our communities and classrooms. #FeedMeMore#Masterychat
A5: Last year I was chosen to be part of a Blended Learning cohort, and I'm hoping to improve my ability to reach the Heritage Spanish Speakers who end up placed in my Spanish 1 class #MasteryChat
A6 I’d love to see educators who work in nontraditional settings lead some chats. What can we learn from those who teach ELLs, kids on the spectrum, incarcerated young people, kids with mental illness—regardless of whether we do? #MasteryChat
I went to a private school that was all on one campus. I felt like part of a FAMILY. People didn’t understand my perspective when I went to college. I still care about my grade school classmates! #MasteryChat
A4: I am new to a school this year that has a large outdoor classroom in a treed area of the school yard. I can’t wait for the learning adventures we will have in that space! #MasteryChat
#masterychat a6 I look to be challenged, to find out new things or why things have worked for people. Flexible seating, loving all the photos, keeps me thinking about this as a good example. And I always want to get better at teaching language in #Math#Science#Auslan
A3: I'm afraid of getting comfortable, being scared to advocate for what's best for kids, and biting off too much. I have a problem with patience in progress. Ive let the 😈 derail the process in the past. #MasteryChat
#TeacherHack - Try putting your border on the OUTSIDE of your boards! Leaves more room for the important stuff & makes the board look bigger!! 🙃 #T2T#EdChat#MasteryChat
A6: I agree with @CristinaDajero - help us keep connecting with some the brightest educators across the country! Having a #PLN is critical to growing as an educator/leader! #masterychat
A5. Hard to pick just one! Most excited about the opportunity to add schoolwide assemblies to our PBIS plan! Building school community and focusing on positive character traits and behavior in a fun and engaging way! #masterychat
A6: I think keeping the communication network open through twitter is a true GIFT for teachers. I haven't ever seen this degree of collaboration on such a grande scale! #PLN#mathchat#bettertogether#masterychat
The crazy thing is that ours is a public school. It's literally one big oval parking lot right in the center of the school buildings. That's it. We love it! #MasteryChat
B1: Totally unrelated to education. Mortal Engines! I saw the trailer for the movie this spring, and thought the concept seemed cool, so I bought the first book. Absolutely fantastic! I've been taking my time on it, and am excited for the movie! #masterychat
Jumping in late #MasteryChat! A1: I don't have one motto, but several. Luv teaching Ss "We sink & swim together." Teamwork & supportive relationship building always starts day 1. My boys usually like my military husband's motto for them "Never Leave a Fallen Soldier Behind."
I read #path2serendipity by @AllysonApsey and #bereal by @TaraMartinEDU. First of all, I adore both of these authors. They both have SUCH a heart of gold, and that is an understatement. These books motivated me to be the teacher i want to be. #masterychat
Bonus 1: Finally got around to finishing #innovatorsmindset by @gcouros! Strongly suggest it to anyone with a mission to transform learning. #masterychat
Bonus: Admin book- If we don’t feed the teachers, they’ll eat the students. Incredible book full of great ideas about building culture and maintaining positivity on a team #MasteryChat
By the way, hi I'm Kevin from Toledo, OH. I haven't taken a break from school because I am so fired up for our culture and STEM initiatives. #MasteryChat
B1)The Biology of Belief. Not directly related to teaching, but it shows the science behind how beliefs, attitudes, mindsets affect us on a cellular level. This info is important for everyone! Great implications for helping Ss w/their mindset. #masterychat
Excellent point! Planning with flexibility! Thanks for sharing. That will be my answer to Q5! This year I am going to try to embrace the spontaneity and the excitement of the Ss and their learning. #MasteryChat
BQ: Children's: Ghost Boys, Wishtree, Dear Martin, Pax.
Work: Learn Like A Pirate, Wild Card, Disruptive Thinking
LOL Crazy, but I haven't read any adult fiction this year...yet #MasteryChat
I read a lot of student novels this summer so I’d have a better idea of the lit in my classroom library 😬🤦♀️ But I just started The Book Whisperer and am enjoying it so far!! ❤️ #MasteryChat
Bonus: Currently reason Hacking School Culture, a great read. I enjoyed Flipping with Kirch to give me insight into my own classroom/instructional goals. #MasteryChat
B1: I was looking for a new middle grade read aloud for my modified class. I read GOOD DOG by @DanGemeinhart and absolutely loved it. It was a beautiful story that will surely produce some rich discussions in class. #masterychat
I absolutely agree. I actually gave a copy to a former professor and signed it for him because he allowed me to borrow "The Courage to Teach". I wanted to give back and show him the impact he made. #masterychat
Right now, I'm deep into @DavidGeurin's #FutureDriven. It's a fantastic book about designing your approach around preparing kids to handle the unknown and ever changing world we live in #MasteryChat
#masterychat - Don't forget to join me for #edChatRI on Sunday at 8pm EST. We will be talking about gatekeepers in education this week. Hope to see you there!
A5: I'm giving up lunches to sit with kids. I'm inviting people outside #education into my class. I'm designing lessons to meet student needs, not test drive tech. #MasteryChat
B2: My power would be teleportation. Nothing like being able to get places quicker. It would be great in traffic jams and when you leave something at home that you need at school.
#MasteryChat
BONUS: For anyone working w/ Ss Pre-K thru 5th, I love Dr. Thomas Phelan's book "1-2-3 MAGIC." I will be using his 1-2-3 strategies for healthy discipline in my room this year. I use it w/my own kids at home and it works wonders! #MasteryChat
I read #path2serendipity by @AllysonApsey and #bereal by @TaraMartinEDU. First of all, I adore both of these authors. They both have SUCH a heart of gold, and that is an understatement. These books motivated me to be the teacher I want to be. #masterychat
WOW! Sounds really neat! Also sounds like leadership opportunities would be cool to implement... I’d love to be a senior and read with a kinder buddy! #MasteryChat
A6: #MasteryChat can best support me this year by continuing to encourage rich professional discourse and a platform to share outstanding teaching ideas, experience, and support.
Yes!!! We have to connect and chat! OMG your room is awesome! I love @TopDogTeaching ! She along with a colleague are the reasons I am trying flexible seating! #masterychat

B1 Please do yourself a favor and read Culturize by @casas_jimmy This has been a game changer for me. I gifted the book to my new Principal. Read it as a book study. Even learned with Jimmy. Amazing read. #masterychat
A2)Most excited about connecting with educators across NTX and hearing their classroom experiences. Hoping to make a positive impact, the ripple effect. #MasteryChat
Bonus 2: If I could have a super power it'll be the ability to speak all 17 languages represented in our county! It'l be amazing to speak our #Els' home language!! #masterychat
B2: I would love my superpower to be knowing if I made an impact or not. I strive to go out of my way to be kind to others due to knowing the immense power that it has. I always wonder if I make a difference. #masterychat
A5- focus more on the future of the student and try to help them find their purpose rather than focusing on the curriculum (I’ve always tried this, but I have some new ideas) #masterychat
oB1) Not school related: I would suggest Color of Water if you like memoirs...I didn't read it this year but it hands down one of my favoite books #MasteryChat
I'm a coach and commissioner with our youth sports league and we do that with sports.
High school athletes help out with coaching the youth teams. #MasteryChat
B2 I would like the power of instant teleportation so I could be home with my family in an instant and back to school for events at night quickly! #masterychat
Knowing exactly when my Ss need me to walk them right up to understanding something and when I can back off and let them teach each other or find their way to the correct answer independently. #masterychat
Thank you all for taking in #masterychat this evening. I am always amazed to see all the great educators doing amazing things for kids. Have a great start to the year!
B2 I would love to help make educators’ dreams come true and support their everyday miracles. I want to help teachers make every learning dream come true. I will start small, but I have goals. #MasteryChat
BONUS 2: I would love to have Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth for the little stinkers who lie & don't come around to tell the truth. Who stole the class......, Mrs. Waller get out the lasso! #MasteryChat
B2 I'd love to have unlimited ability to travel whenever to wherever. Learning from other cultures is so powerful for self and for connecting with our Ss #MasteryChat
B2) I honestly always thought about being able to read minds, but at the same time do I really want to know what everyone is thinking? Probably not lol #MasteryChat
A5)One thing I am going to work on this yr is taking advantage of all of the great info shared in Twitterlandia! Becoming a tweeter diva is one of my goals.👸 #MasteryChat
Bonus 1: I am currently reading the autobiography of Nelson Mandela titled, “Long Walk to Freedom” - an excellent, courageous, & inspiring story! Easy to make connections to our role as teacher leaders (in & out of the classroom). Highly recommend! #MasteryChat
B2 Never tire; not need sleep. When I was young I hated sleeping because it felt incredibly unproductive. Now my age has caught up and I need it 😂🤦♀️ But I’d have several more hours without needing to sleep! Plus I love nighttime 😍 🌚 #MasteryChat
B2 My superpower would allow me to "scan" every child and know right away where they are and how to close the gaps. That way, I could forgo all the preassessments and jump right to it. #MasteryChat#TeacherDreams
A2. Provide all of our Ss and their families with all of their basic needs! Then keep our Ss safe from suffering emotional/trama in their lives! So they can be ready to learn and happy! #masterychat
A6: I'd like to see some chats on team building, class expectations/norms, and methods of relationship building with your community (people in town where you teach). #MasteryChat
I would love to hear Kayla speak! Here is mine! I’m sure some of it will change up this year! Always exciting for me to hear what m Ss want! #MasteryChat
