So, I heard Twitter is starting to allow more characters than 140...anyone know if that is true...as of today? I am writing more just to see if I get cut off! Looks like maybe it is true. #6thchat
I have used a variety of them as in class readings. Recently had a couple different hero comics (Superman, Captain America, etc.) to compare theme with Percy Jackson #6thchat
A1: I used to use graphic novels. Now that I'm math/sci I do not but I always have a lot of them in my room. Access to literature in a blended environment. #6thchat
A2: Alongside, a picture book could be a great accompanying text to a novel but wouldn't have the same text structures and complexity as a novel #6thchat
Chat isn’t loading for me, so sorry! I will look forward to archive to read through! Love picture books in 6th grade! Before, with,in-between and after novels! #6thchat
A4: We will be doing PoV and author's purpose in Q3 and I know Jon Scziezska's "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" is a great one for that #6thchat
They are posting on tweetdeck, too. I see them on twitter under "latest" tweets for #6thchat. Q5: How do you connect the picture book to the purpose for reading it? #6thchat
A6: #1 Fly Away Home, You are (not) Small, any Jon Klassen, Boats for Papa, Night Gardener... so many more. I always say, “Now this is my favorite!” #6thchat
A7: The best idea I can think of would be a Google Sheet where you keep track of each of those things, only downside is remembering to check it when time comes #6thchat
A6 Finding Winnie (narrative info text awesomeness); Arnie the Doughnut (voice/persuasion/perspective); The Book of Mistakes (beautiful images/message). #6thchat
A8 Have been using nonfiction pic books so far this year as our read alouds. Studying & analyzing author's craft, text structures, idea development. It's been very effective. Make for quick, yet complex mentor texts! #6thchat
Great way to study unfamiliar genres, too. Tomorrow we are studying "author blurbs" and writing one for ourselves. Picture books often have great blurbs to explore. #6thchat
