Good morning! Ready to start week 2!
Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
Been there, Karl. Hope the caffeine helps later. https://t.co/kTJRUuiDmd
Singing my personal anthem, "O Insomnia" since 2 AM.
Thanks for finally joining me, ! :P
Good morning, friends! Ben from Western NC.

Hi Kathy. I sent your class a pic of the lamb born this morning
I love this question today.
us too - I feel like we've been practicing for the "real thing" for the past two
Good morning friends. I'm here, but don't know how I'm going to survive w/out coffee for 2 days!
thank you thank you thank you!!!! What a great way to start a week!
what? Why would you do that?
Greatful for the weather change, Betsy. Last week, the heat was a beast.
Good morning peeps. How was the weekend? David MS Principal from VA here.
WHY would that be necessary?
We are not 1:1 so too much is not the problem..
I needs to start with the planning. Tech for the sake of tech flies in the face of what we actually do.
Good morning! Ready to celebrate our first Monday and start the week off right.
lol!! Hope you can maintain that caffeine high!
Let's together this morning friends! Welcome to a new week!
Good morning ! Stacey from NJ. Ready to take on the first full week of school!
Morning! Sierra, special ed major.
Good morning friends. Going to for our first full week back.
The struggle with our projector is real. If it goes down, the day is toast. That's the only thing that makes us too connected
good morning to you, Michala!
It's a highwire act balancing tech use and hyperstim of kids from overtech. Many arrive already overstimmed.

Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
Oh my gosh, I cannot wait! Thank you!
yikes! I was up midnight till about 1:30 thanks to a cat who decided to sing at the top of her lungs!
I know!! I'm doing this 6 week fitness boot camp & today & tomorrow are "detox days". Waaaa.
If a teacher comes to me with a question about tech I almost always ask to see the lesson plan first.
Good morning ! :) Happy Monday!
We actually have very little that I am able to use consistently with Ss.
I don't trust any teacher who doesn't caffeinate. That's just unnatural. :D
I don't struggle with USING too much tech, but with NOT USING new stuff I come across all the time. Balancing useful vs interesting
I'm "detoxing" today. Believe me, I'm already wishing it was Wed.
Good morning, ! I'm excited to with you this morning! :)
We have 5 chrome book/day but we share one cart with 4 teachers
If you know me at all you know that I'm the tech coach who 💜s analog. Pens. Notebooks. https://t.co/IkyBCxVHpC
Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
let me show my nerd side. I said, Dungeons and dragons coffee? None for me yet today 😆
I think the tech needs to support what you are doing. Just because you can do it with tech, doesn't mean you should.
Personally no. I try & honor home time. The 24/7connectedness is what gives me fits. Where does job end? Does it end?
hahahahahahah That is the truth!
Always! I try to be up on my products, tools for my Ss and colleagues - balance w lo-tech/no tech
Good morning from Bronwyn in CT! 7th and 8th grade ELA! Excited for a new week at !
Oh wow! Good for you though. Good luck!
Happy Monday from Massachusetts.
Brian, HS principal
TRUTH...well said, Denis. https://t.co/YgmPHt9bFU

Sounds like you're starting the week off well! Gotta love a good smoothie!
So exciting! The first full week. How does it feel to be at the MS this year?
tell me about it. My stu won't recognize me w/o my32 oz Tervis cup full of joe.
Using tech for tech sake will indeed be a struggle. Use technology as a tool...the right one for the job. https://t.co/GHjh7NE4fx
I think we are going to a place where it doesnt end in the way we used to think.
Smart. R motto is that instruction drives the use of tech, not the other way around
RT : As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
Thought about and prayed for all of my American friends, remembering 15 years ago yesterday. Peace, my friends.
I'm excited. Started Friday.
Life is good here in Maine. Starting the week with the NWEA and spending more time visiting classes
Good morning Tracy from MA here to w/ this great PLN
Using too much not an issue. Still learning lots. Keeping balance between being connected and life is struggle.
ah, the magic of nature and all of her creatures
Good luck and get the Tylenol ready.
Interesting question today! I'm working on making a tech use survey for Ss and Ts today, in fact! Perfect timing!
In my field placement, tech is hardly used. Want to incorporate tech into classroom little by little.
Yes! WHY is tech being used. If just the same lesson but "techified" then not necessary. https://t.co/1RblNS3a78
If a teacher comes to me with a question about tech I almost always ask to see the lesson plan first.
That's wonderful! When did you start?
Don't struggle with using, I struggle with being proficient.
Overstimulation isn't the only issue, there's also the problem of the time it takes to introduce a new tool WELL.
Ben, this picture illustrates your point beautifully.
I agree. Going out of town to a wedding this weekend, but iPhone will b right there &curse https://t.co/FSKtupe8Ew
I think we are going to a place where it doesnt end in the way we used to think.
The real issue is the amount of tech available. Apps, 1:1, labs etc. We need to focus it.
Interested to hear- do other districts do tech free days where Ts have to plan to be screen free all day? That can be a challenge
How are the workouts? You should join (if you haven't)
of course you were, doesn't everyone?
Hi Dan! How is the new school year going?
I know that happened for me this weekend. And has made all the difference.
HA! Mine wouldn't either. By now Ss know to look for my mug or be on EXTRA special behavior :)
Good morning, . I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina. Starting off with Teacher's Day during one the busiest weeks of the year!
It's still about good teaching. We must always remember that.
I totally agree, Ben. What we often call "tech" really refers to many different resources or tools.
I always have great ideas when I see the new stuff but need to follow through more too. https://t.co/yNCi0EhiIl
I don't struggle with USING too much tech, but with NOT USING new stuff I come across all the time. Balancing useful vs interesting
I look at tech in classroom as an instructional tool. Personally, I have to find balance daily.
Coping strategies: model w your expectations. If I'm not going to take risks with tech in the building, how can I expect others?
I am focusing on learning from my staff re: meaningful use of tech when I visit classrooms and modeling it in my leadership
Good morning to 2 of my favorite people:)
Exactly. Maybe the school day wont be what we consider it anymore.
We did unplugged the last couple of years (1 or 2 times). It was great!
I used boxes from & my label maker this wkend to organize collection - thought of oyu fondly
it's not so much too much tech, it's what is the right tech ? https://t.co/0YyjT1ewnF
Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
Our school 1:1 and I think Ps are surprised to find out Ss not in front of screens all day long.
Sometimes I see a new thing and want to make it everyone else's favorite too but need to slow the train a bit
it's Body Fit Boot Camp and I went to my 1st one Friday. Tough! Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm trying to understand my SMART Board...new to me after 16 years, & am trying to make effective use of Twitter, Remind and Seesaw.
i hope you get the results you're looking for.
Great point! Sometimes it's not the amount, but the focus we're giving everything. Can't spread too thin.
Good approach -technology, when used well, helps the instruction be more efficient and effective. If not, it's just fluff.
Exactly! And how to use this the and WHEN.

it's not so much too much tech, it's what is the right tech ? https://t.co/0YyjT1ewnF
Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
I think perception is a hard thing to control. NOBODY want kids in front of screens all day long.
In all honesty and transparency I am a digital immigrant which equates always evolving and improving
This year I am a tech integration specialist. I used to use it whenever I could, overcompensating for the lack of tech elsewhere
such a great point - gone are the days where you could leave email from 5p-5a - ppl are expecting an answer NOW
Love these challenges -- not necessarily b/c of tech use. They're great for challenging stagnant thinking/habits! .
I find that I am not having a "too much" tech problem as I am having the tech being inserted to say it has been included
That's why some days in 1-D we don't use tech. We color, cut, glue, repeat :)
Advice 1: Smartboard is just a screen. Learn Smart Notebook software deeply and it'll be great

I'm trying hard to wrap my head around student learning needs, curriculum, choice and tech integration...no easy balance for me. 😊
will do! The boxes are the perfect size so the pens don't roll around
you lost me at beets I literally closed my app
Smart approach. Can be culture shock if done too quickly, and can cause big pushback probs
Instruction drives the choice of tool, not vice versa. So true https://t.co/sQi64t60m7
Exactly! And how to use this the and WHEN.

Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
Could you hear me giggle?
Yes and get mad if you don't. I try to not respond 5Pm - 7 Am so parents don't expect it.
My struggle is there is always something new and finding the right fit for the right tool.
I try to remind teachers and myself that technology is a tool. It is not instruction. It is a means.
The questions always is: as I evolve, what will it replace? Something has to give -- what will it be today? https://t.co/LGrlyyzFYj
Great point! Sometimes it's not the amount, but the focus we're giving everything. Can't spread too thin.
yea and must look at ed tech equity.! https://t.co/88R13kvW5l
Overstimulation isn't the only issue, there's also the problem of the time it takes to introduce a new tool WELL.
Hi Eric! Yes, when tech enhances student learning & isn't the sole focus of a lesson this question becomes less imp.
yes I can relate to that too. It is hard because I know they aren't going to go find it themselves
Agreed. We all need down time. We've lost that luxury. https://t.co/7GiD20vEel
such a great point - gone are the days where you could leave email from 5p-5a - ppl are expecting an answer NOW
We have an instructional tech specialist in every school. Tech should be used to support our curriculum and objectives.
I try to use tech in genuine, purposeful ways. If it's not the best tool to employ, I don't put it into play.
Yes- and using tech to support collaboration w/ students and teacher feedback https://t.co/l8qGMSS1XH
I'm trying hard to wrap my head around student learning needs, curriculum, choice and tech integration...no easy balance for me. 😊
exactly. With going 1:1 it is hard to keep balance a priority.
I love but I don't utilize the 2 way chat often. I have a hard enough time shutting off my brain
I'm in the same boat. We went 1:1 and are also trying to change our grading system and our perception of teaching..
I feel that way too,but there is SO much new stuff out there all the time.Hard to keep up, so I focus on one at a time
We had students back Aug 31
absolutely !!! ( PS good to see you! ) got to DM you to catch up !) https://t.co/Z8xjBOyMR7
Hi Eric! Yes, when tech enhances student learning & isn't the sole focus of a lesson this question becomes less imp.
and it's interesting to see how the Ss & Ts react when you take screens away. Makes you realize how dependent we are
I find that each board is unique somehow so just because I had a board last year doesn't mean I'll know it this year!
LOL That's great! Very exciting place to be/time to be there!
Us too. MAPS will be given hopefully soon for data reasons!
That's my big challenge...I have to find/make the time. Any 'simple steps' suggestions? Slow and steady is what I need.
Once I'm home I try to have me time. I will respond in the morning.
"going to"? Already there. Answered a parent REMIND msg at 8 and email at 10 last night.
That is a good policy to follow.
Reply on tech coping: Review purpose before introducing new apps. Connect with minimal confusion for Ss. Test w peers, Ts.
We do "mindfulness Mondays" in our advisory where Ss unplug and simply read a book, or meditate, or draw, etc.
This is a real for me. Getting better though. syndrome https://t.co/CyCw7kOsZb
Sometimes I see a new thing and want to make it everyone else's favorite too but need to slow the train a bit

Same here. Old school works too. Reading a book = no tech, still great. We shouldn't force tech. https://t.co/blC8HC3FXw
I find that I am not having a "too much" tech problem as I am having the tech being inserted to say it has been included
I had to learn it. Ps would get mad if I didn't answer right away
we need 2create a culture of mandating luxury – time 2be with students rather than email
good point. Teaching has always been a 24/7 job. We may need to formalize that soon.
And yet I think it's crucial that we model down time for our Ss (in addition to caring for ourselves, our families)
It's SMART Notebook that I haven't yet had time to explore.
As it should be, Ellen! https://t.co/KpZ6C6iugr

yes that's the key slowly integrate a bit at the time or both Ts & Ss get overwhelmed https://t.co/RgqwZqHxss
I feel that way too,but there is SO much new stuff out there all the time.Hard to keep up, so I focus on one at a time
Right & sometimes the tech that is meant to make me more efficient, doesn't. It's okay to change our minds abt tech
I think we have to keep in mind that just bc it's not the next new thing, doesn't mean it's obsolete.
I don't use it often enough. Access to laptops is limited, and forget about ever getting the iPads. https://t.co/Ow2iecQGrs
Happy Monday ! Todays question is: As a connected educator do you struggle with using too much tech? What are your coping strategies?
I don't use remind chat and try not to answer emails 5 pm - 7 am
We have an awesome technology instructor that meets with every child in our school every week. Rockstar teacher
agree, not every thing works for every Ts ! ( or every Ss) https://t.co/aXDM2CsN8o
Right & sometimes the tech that is meant to make me more efficient, doesn't. It's okay to change our minds abt tech
Yes -- but from an administrators PoV, considerations extend beyond instruction.

To be perceived as a genuine edu & not just a techie, I need to think aloud, and esp. when tech doesn't solve the prob-not use it
What i am reading here is the hard part that we need to be able to shut off technology for us as teachers
thanks, Stacey! I do too! I had a great weekend of staying on track.
How do we keep the focus on instruction even as our tools change?
We as teachers don't need to poach every single thing kids like and try to use it for learning. https://t.co/spgyLz8FLv
That was my first grade classroom as well.
We know it's all good, but such a challenge to implement and integrate effectively....wanting best for kids.
It's a bad habit I need to fix, I confess. But it's a life habit, not even a teacher-habit
Yes! Always be on the lookout for something to help you improve! Otherwise you risk this... https://t.co/pBWZyzvRMw
It is a lot at once. I try to focus on the area where they intersect.
that's where I am. Connectedness was a thrill for a while but there's a need to set up new boundaries
This is a struggle. We've become trained & trained others to be always available via email. I have a family too!
Have a great day, Friends.

G'day! David joining from Sydney, Australia! RE: Q the guiding rule should be does the use of tech replace pedagogy or enhance it?
I'm an interested in following your efforts in changing your grading system.
A robust discussion this morning!
You challenge my thinking .
Monday
I try! I am not always successful
Absolutely. Disruption is very important. Try to only use non-dominant hand all day, sit in different seats, etc.
This. Right. Here. If we don't model it, how will they know any different? It starts with us! https://t.co/xQ5y4rID0G
And yet I think it's crucial that we model down time for our Ss (in addition to caring for ourselves, our families)
Standards based grading. It is going to take a while for all stakeholders to be fully on board.
Enjoy your day! Off to get in a few miles before school!
Smart Exchange is the easiest way to start.
There's the buzzer - time to head off to my first Monday of the year. Have a happy day !
Also interesting to look at how other fields grapple w this new challenge, teaching isn't only1
I feel another good topic for another morning coming on! "How do you break a teaching rut?"
Luckily I get to set the NWEA schedule since I proctor K-2 in the lab so I can get the data

And yet I think it's crucial that we model down time for our Ss (in addition to caring for ourselves, our families)
Neither am I. As hard as I try, I still find myself checking in. Don't want to leave something unanswered
I think the challenge sometimes is that we think we are "enhancing" while we might actually be "replacing".
Like anything, trying it on sometimes makes you see it doesn't fit you the way you thought. :) Okay to put it back!
Lots of reflection on ALL the resources we use. What helps each S most? Why? What else is out there to try or revisit?
That's a good point. Education is not a lab on an island.
looks like Penn State this weekend. 😢
