Alright, alright....the clock has struck 6:00 EST/3:00 PST! It's time for everyone!!
I'm your host tonight - Heather from the ATL. I'm a tech coach with and I LOVE my job! What about you, ?
Now, don't make me chat with myself ! Who's lurking tonight??
This is my first chat. Just popped on for a minute. Debra from North Alabama here. Today was our first day of school. Tired!!!
- Welcome! Glad we could be your first! :)
Forgot my tag on the first question!
I'm here for a bit. Couldn't miss a chat with
Hey friend! Ready to get my on!
crew in force tonight! Thanks for showing up, friends!
Bueller.....Buelller.....
A1: Blended learning turns the walls of the classroom into translucent-quasitangible suggestions
A1: Blended learning is taking best traditional education and mixing in personalized practices via tech! https://t.co/YII3kiO419
Whether or not folks are here, we're chatting! There's an old-school theme to our questions tonight.... https://t.co/MKcXYtU4VK
Joining on and off until I get home from practice! Aaron Avera from in Atlanta
Agreed, & ! Y'all know the right words - dictionary or not!
A1 it's not being confined to the four walls and the teacher but reaching out beyond to learn
Blended learning is offering varied strategies to personalize for our students.
- Yes! Those walls may technically be there, but they don't need to confine the learning!
I'll see your Q2, and raise you my A2... Where couldn't we?
A2 personally I feel blended learning can take place anywhere technology can be used. You don't need no stinking teacher (sorta)!
- And, yes! Exactly! From ES to HS, is completely appropriate! https://t.co/AG48QLJefs
I'll see your Q2, and raise you my A2... Where couldn't we?
A1: BL is bringing in and pushing outknowledge from the classroom.
The tone and the (sorta) make you correct, my friend. multiples the T and can be anywhere! https://t.co/Aktai8i7Km
A2 personally I feel blended learning can take place anywhere technology can be used. You don't need no stinking teacher (sorta)!
A2.1 Except bathrooms. No blended learning in bathrooms
...it would help if I add , lol
The roadblock can be access to tech and Ts feeling comfortable with tech
Oh hey 👋🏾, Marcus Borders (KSU iTeach Dept.)
A2: its a life style now, almost everything we do is BL
- Ahh...a preview into a later line of questioning tonight. :)
A2: NOT ONLY in text books! There are no boundaries
- Maybe that's where the "digital native" sometimes comes in too....because it IS a lifestyle now!
Blended learning takes place where ever there is an opportunity to expand the learning even outside the classroom
A3: Blended Learning takes place when there's room to extend the content beyond basic mastery and understanding.
I don't believe in digital natives
You're all on point A2 and A3 really are without boundaries! Blended learning means we can ALWAYS be learning.
- I don't either, really. I think because it is a lifestyle, that's why people use that term with the "babies."
A3 We now live in a world where residing in bubbles, though comfortable -- is dangerous to ourselves. BL helps us free ourselves
WHY, people, WHY?? .....please.
A4 so students can become accountable for their learning and can really become invested learners.
A3 because our kids aren't limited to what they can learn from an expert standing in front of them.
hiiiii! Lauren Busing, instructional coach, CWES
A4: Blended Learning is important because it facilitates differentiation
A4: I'm back , BL is important because learning has no boundaries. There is always more to learn.
A4: I think it's like said. It's a lifestyle & if they don't learn how to "learn blended", we've wasted their time.
- Hey, hey INSTRUCTIONAL COACH!! :) Thanks for joining !
A3, because it's the best way to provide the greatest opportunity for our students to learn
A4 Blended learning teaches essential skills that student take with them when they leave school. It takes those 21st century skills
And for , et al. BL is important because it facilitates !
A4: Beyond pushes us beyond the walls of our classroom. It helps to solidify the need for us (educators) to expand our toolbox
A4: There is no longer a box
Beyond = Blended Learning 😁
Think about those newbie Ts.....what suggestions for HOW could you offer?
A5: I'd suggest starting small if you're new to the BL game. Pick one area you'd like to change and go from there.
A5: Use resources beyond the textbook
A5 Give Ss the opportunity to learn using and from various experiences. BL has little to do with tech
Just like we would with Ss, help new Ts see how they use BL in their own lives and give them ways they can transfer that!
Q5: Pre-Assess skill levels & meet the students(and teachers) at their comfort level
A5 organizing digital resources and lessons in a way that students can use and understand independently and easily.
- Sometimes I think it depends on the program they came from for school!
A5: Talk with other teachers, you don't have to learn this alone.
A5, back to the basics for newbie Ts, along with what said, MODEL what you want to see 😁
- Ain't nobody got time for that!
- I wish I had modeled more for Ss. I learned that w/Ts, but wish I could have a redo w/Ss.
That's party of the problem. There is strength in numbers
A6 When it comes to Blending are at the top of my list!
- I know! I just meant there's no time to go it alone. :)
A6: Tech tools that capture their imagination & creativity always work best
A5 I learned about HyperDocs this summer. Seems like a fun way to provided resources for a great blended learning experience
A6 Blendspace, symbaloo, Nearpod, Mackin Via for students. Sophia for teaching teachers!
I mean, if we're -ting, we can't forget ! It's a FAB tool for
- You're a girl after my own heart with those tools, friend!
- Tell me more about HyperDocs!
A6: My favorite is Edmodo. It does everything that a teacher could want 😊
A6.1 I use for blended project management but the possibilities are endless with it
I'm all about a tool that can hold all of the resources I need for . definitely helps!
A6: Offer multiple tools in the same category. , , live
We love seeing what you’ve created with Symbaloo! Please continue to share your webmixes & lesson plans with us using the hashtag
- I like that too! Then Ts feel like there are multiple options to choose from!
A7: I think the best way to answer critics is with Ss and learning. It speaks for itself when in action!
A7 Show them that it works!
A7: Have you tried Blended Learning?? 😊
- Very much the "show, don't tell"
- Haha! Yes! Many who are critics probably haven't tried it!
I've got three more Qs before we wrap up tonight's . If you've been there lurking, drop a tweet and tag the chat!
A7 If you haven't failed at BL then you haven' tried BL. There's a nuance in failure that makes it all make sense
Love it, go Doc Kali, (new nickname)
There will be a transcript of the chat with all the resources
I've been out of my own classroom for a hit minute....share your examples with me!
Or a HOT minute.....geez.....
