Hi, Allison, Principal of @HeritageD100! Looking forward to learning new opportunities on how as a leader you can promote authentic learning experiences within a school. #hmsfalcons#d100chat
A1: Last Friday some girls invited me to sit with them and discuss thier book City of Embers in the hallway. Loved that! Seeing students construct meaning, have conversations - that's authentic learning. #d100chat
A1: Authentic looks like: creative experiences and opportunities for our students centered around the real world and problem solving. Sounds like: Lots of conversation, building oracy, real conversations, being vulnerable. #D100chat
Q1: In the context of your environment, what does “authentic” learning look and sound like? (for Explain Everything users: create a “doodle” of what it looks like - stick figured encourage!) #d100chat
A1: Authentic learning is dropping the lesson plan when Ss want to ask questions about real events and connect them to what's going on in class. Seeing that genuine "Aha!" moment is priceless! #d100chat#d100pride
A1: Authentic learning looks like students in pairs or groups talking, laughing and disagreeing with each other. Students role-playing, filming or sketch noting #d100chat
A1: At Komensky, everything we do matters! Students are directing their own learning and presenting information to audiences beyond the classroom. #d100chat
A1:Authentic learning means relevance;creating opps 4 Ss 2 explore content;creating learning opps covered w/ inquiry instead of memorization of facts. authentic learning requires Ss want/need for info & the ability 2 know what they need 2 move forward. #d100chat#teampershing
A1: Learning is productive noise, where students are collaborating and exploring together. Teachers support students by participating in conversations with their students in order to learn more and challenge students thinking. #D100Chat
Authentic looks exactly like what is happening in boardrooms, stores, garages, Starbucks, and every other real world environments you can think of! #d100chat
A1: Authentic learning is bringing an experience to life. Engaging students, where they are excited to know more! The sound of great collaboration taking place! #d100chat
A1: To me, authentic learning is when students can engage with a topic that is relevant to them, explore it in a personal way and express themselves in a way they choose. #d100chat
A1: Authentic learning is involves students developing their own questions, interests, and learning strategies. This will allow students to be life-long learners and critical thinkers #d100chat

A2: @Seesaw has done a great job making workflow accessible to primary kids. Checking center work, notes from home, etc. It's nice to have that running portfolio. Also @RemindHQ helps with scheduling texts for parents - AH-MAZ-ING #d100chat
Q2: Students having choice in apps to present their work. This increases interest and motivation because they can make videos, animations, slides, etc. #d100chat
What are some processes in your and your students’ workdays that are helped by being automated? (for Explain Everything users: create a flow diagram that shows an example of such a process) #D100chat
A2:#d100chat. In all seriousness, automation has provided a "voice for our voiceless". Students have multimedia ways to represent their thoughts, feelings and opinions.
A2: I like to see teachers automate their attendance and lunch count. Even kinders can do that. Using powerlearning or seesaw to send and collect assignments. #d100chat
A1: Authentic Learning in PE is students trying new skills and activities. Students can figure out different strategies to experince successes/failure, all while building real life skills to help them be the best version of themselves in the future. #d100chat
A1: authentic learning depends on relationships between students and teachers. With a solid relationship, students are self-motivated to want to learn the actual concepts, and not just do the work for the sake of doing work #d100chat
A2: Love some apps having instant feedback and a way to have all students working on something at their level at their own pace.
Student choice in presentation is key!
#d100chat
A2: Students can receive instant feedback using @formative and other apps. Students use this instant feedback to reflect and continue learning. #D100Chat
A2: Students can receive instant feedback using @formative and other apps. Students use this instant feedback to reflect and continue learning. #D100Chat
Q3: Learning about student lives outside of school in a way that the students also recognize as valuable. We have Lunch Bunch in 5V to share common interests in a way that isn't directly involved in their academics. #d100chat
A3: Supporting students socially and emotionally, making students feel welcome and that they matter. Our use of Responsive Classroom practices starts the day right for Ss and Ts daily. #D100chat
A3: #D100Chat Regardless of the amount of tech NOTHING is more important than the human factor in a classroom K-12. Tech doesn't make a better teacher, only a teacher make themselves better.
A3: Daily wellness check-ins, guided reading instruction, responsive teachable moments...all can't be replacesd. Tech helps w/ the formative assessment & quick feedback piece, but the relationship building that is a pillar of good teaching - it can't #d100chat
Q3: What are some things in a student-teacher relationship that can’t be automated - that is, only people can do them…? (EE uses: make an image with different text boxes for the things you come up with) #D100chat
A3: Real human connections between students and teachers cannot be automated. Students need teachers to care and love them. Komensky teachers give their heart every single day to every student that walks through our doors. #d100chat
A2: Calendar invites save my life and help me being in multiple schools and supporting more teachers! I would forget where to go! (p.s. I am sketching with my finger on my phone, trying something new! challenging haha!) #d100chat
A3: Emojis can smile, but it's different from a real person! High-fives, hugs, crouching down to have a convo/conference… anything to make the learning experience personable and make each Ss feel important! #d100chat#d100pride
A3: The computer does not care about how each student is searching, evaluating, synthesizing, and communicating information that is found on line. Only a good teacher can monitor and guide these high level critical thinking skills.
#d100chat#irvingpride
A2: @Seesaw has really been a valuable resource during my coaching cycles. Being able to stay connected from a distance with classrooms while in other buildings. #d100chat
A3: Real human connections between students and teachers cannot be automated. Students need teachers to care and love them. Komensky teachers give their heart every single day to every student that walks through our doors. #d100chat
A3: Relationships with students (and staff!), good teaching, and purpose. Technology can definitely help, but being “there” physically is so important. #d100chat
A3: While we can connect with our students online, I believe there is something valuable about the relationships we build with students in the classroom. Being able to sit next to them and offer support, and guidance. #D100Chat
A3: I think certain interactions need to be humanized; seeing a Ts face as they welcome u into the classroom or say goodbye when you leave; being able to look into the eyes of the person you are talking to does a lot for the relationship. #d100chat#teampershing
A1 Learning is authentic if it is genuine and real for the person doing the learning, not the one doing the teaching. It would look like the students are applying the skills/strategies and would sound like they are able to explain their learning, not just the task. #d100chat
A2: Beyond impresses with the automated but interpretive feedback Ss get from @Desmos activities. Mostly in grades 6-12, but still an amazing resource for our @HeritageD100 & @FreedomD100 math Ts! 👍 #d100chat
What are some processes in your and your students’ workdays that are helped by being automated? (for Explain Everything users: create a flow diagram that shows an example of such a process) #D100chat
Once a week I spend 2-4 min. reflecting with Ss on their work last week-being able to hear and respond to their thoughts, needs, and Q’s builds relationships
#d100chat
A3: Knowing your students. Technology can anylze data, scores, etc. Only relationships and human interaction can truly help Ts know their students and their needs #d100chat
A2: being in a co-taught classroom, automaticity comes with routines. When students know what is expected of them, students have better opportunities to succeed. Whether it's visual schedules, task lists, or morning messages, routine is key! #d100chat
A3 "crouching down" "conferencing," eye contact, sitting on the rug with the kids during morning meeting, knowing something about them from OUTside of the classroom #d100chat
A3 A3 Those personal conversations unearth so much about a student's understanding or lack of understanding as well as missing information, personal issues, etc. #d100chat
A3: The relationships we develop with students drive the learning that happens in classrooms. Educators facilitate learning and that only happens through meaningful interactions #d100chat
A3: Using classroom rituals and routines to support a culture for learning; giving students the language and conversation they need to talk about where they are in the learning process; using authentic conversation to learn social cues is also impt. #d100chat#teampershing
A3: I think certain interactions need to be humanized; seeing a Ts face as they welcome u into the classroom or say goodbye when you leave; being able to look into the eyes of the person you are talking to does a lot for the relationship. #d100chat#teampershing
I agree @jg_jgarrett. It is hard at first but if this 'ole gal can do it anyone can. I can't get over how much more you retain if you sketchnote vs. take notes. Thanks to @leahod for inspiring me!! #d100chat
A2: Some things that can't be automated are the actual relationships between students and teachers. Students will enjoy learning astronomically more if they know you care about them and respect them.
#d100chat
A1 Learning is authentic if it is genuine and real for the person doing the learning, not the one doing the teaching. It would look like the students are applying the skills/strategies and would sound like they are able to explain their learning, not just the task. #d100chat
A4: #D100Chat Technology opens the world to learners in a classroom. Global learning, better simulations and models, virtual manipulatives, rapid feedback to name a few!
A4: Hats off to @Seesaw again. Ss recording homework being done @ home, parent communication, accountability in elementary-huge! We can then talk to Ss about those parts. Being able to be there for parents or Ss that can't connect with you during school hours - huge! #d100chat
Q4: Students can share more about their interests through activities like Passion Projects, but also by showing me videos from home or pictures of what they did over the weekend. They have access to more ways to share their life with school. #d100chat
A1 Learning is authentic if it is genuine and real for the person doing the learning, not the one doing the teaching. It would look like the students are applying the skills/strategies and would sound like they are able to explain their learning, not just the task. #d100chat
A4: Technology used in our classrooms helps to strengthen relationships between teacher and students through authentic feedback. Teachers are able to help students grow in their learning and make connections. #d100chat
Q4: How do technologies used in your teaching and learning environment strengthen, not replace, the human relationship? (EE users mega-challenge: make a video or GIF response to this question) #D100chat
A3: student-teacher relationships are things that MUST be authentic. Kids know when people aren't authentic, and they know when to trust adults and when not to. If they don't trust you, or if they don't feel like you love them, they can't learn. #d100chat
A3 "crouching down" "conferencing," eye contact, sitting on the rug with the kids during morning meeting, knowing something about them from OUTside of the classroom #d100chat
A4: Tailored technology based on instruction can help personalize and engage our students as well as shore up needed the strategies and skills of targeted students.
#d100chat#irvingpride
A4: @Blogger lets students share more than they would normally in class and reflect on more than just prompts from class. Others can read and/or comment and connect. @2writingteachrs Slice of Life Challenge has really allowed my Ss to develop as writers #d100pride#d100chat
A4: For SPED/ EL students technology has expanded their world and allowed them to experience and dig deeper into their learning. Explain Everything visually and auditory! #d100chat
Q3: Using @Seesaw allows parents to see Ss work and comment, Ss love reading parents comments. Parents also see work we will be doing before Ss! #d100chat
A4: Sometimes it gives a voice to those quieter students and it can give them a voice beyond the classroom by making connections with others. #d100chat
A4: When used correctly, tech can help Ts learn about what their Ss need to work out to personalize the learning process leading to a better relationship because you understand what your student needs #d100chat
A4: Using tech for the sake of using tech is NOT good teaching. Choosing tech to allow S choice, quick feedback and authentic learning allows S to be more successful. This helps Ts take S to where they need to be #d100chat
A4: I think indefinitely helps with efficiency, maybe not as you first learn how to use something, but after you understand it and make it your own! Oh the efficiency is wonderful! Also, I like the the kids can help you learn...regularly! #d100chat#teampershing
A4: Using @EmpaticoOrg & @PenpalSchools has enabled teachers to connect with those outside of their school building. Also the #D100iCoach dept has also facilitated that process for Ts. #d100chat
A4: Students are no longer just connecting with their peers in the classroom. They are connecting to peers and experts globally!! #D100Chat#GridPals@PenpalSchools@Flipgrid
A2: @Classkick has helped greatly to check in w multiple students at once; to see immediately their work and provide coaching and feedback. Both in writing and leaving voice feedback #d100chat
A4: This allows Ts to develop lesson plans that fit the needs of their students. I use @flipgrid and that has allowed me to get to know S who don’t necessarily talk during school. This has helped me develop more successful lessons #d100chat
A4: Just recently one of my shyest students used @Seesaw (my favorite!) to share some personal information as well as some of her humor! #breakthrough#d100chat
A4: The devices have helped our Ss but esp our non-verbal Ss demonstrate their thinking & understanding of the world around them. Helping Ts to better know what Ss need moving forward. #d100chat
A4: Allows students to expand the audience beyond their classrooms and schools. It also gives them the opportunity to receive feedback from teachers and peers. #d100chat
Being authentic looks like this, in my mind. Teachers and students interacting while learning is occurring. Thanks for your vision @MrazKristine#d100chat
I used think engaging kids meant bells and whistles and performance. I made engagement about ME. But no, it’s about eye contact, and crouching close, and listening- really listening- kids aren’t engaged by showmen, they are engaged by relationships and care
A4: having a chance for me or Ss to document learning w tech is so amazing. Taking pics during the lesson and reflecting, sharing digiatally, or using to create something. Look at these 1st graders explaining their thinking. So powerful. #d100chat@msvidal4
A4: To me the most powerful thing that technology has done is connect people and allow teachers to receive feedback from students and students to receive feedback from teachers! #d100chat
@reshanrichards Thanks for joining us tonight. This is a great topic for our crew. Can't wait to see you @iEngageMidwest Gotta go dinner is ready! Wish Sam was going to be joining us too! #d100chat
Q3: The smiles and words of affirmation that Ss need from us, the excitement in your voice and personal style when delivering a read aloud to engaged Ss, and not to mention ‘the teacher look’ that can nip behaviors in the bud for learning to continue. 😀@reshanrichards#d100chat
A4: Tech strengthens relationships by allowing students to share their work and encourage others! A group of second grader at @IrvingBerwyn share their authentic learning and give praise to each others work. It is amazing to watch! #d100chat
A4: Using tech for the sake of using tech is NOT good teaching. Choosing tech to allow S choice, quick feedback and authentic learning allows S to be more successful. This helps Ts take S to where they need to be #d100chat
Q4: Technologies hold Ss work or artifacts that can strengthen the conferencing process when you talk w/a S and give feedback. Ex: not having to start over- bc editing and revising can happen easily w/o frustrating or overwhelming Ss @reshanrichards#d100chat
