#bfc530 My perfect school would have lots of windows and an outdoor patio for every classroom. But maybe that's because I teach in a cave with no windows right now!
i would love to start with a tiered hiring process for teachers.
1) Interview 1
2) Sample lesson taught and debrief
3) Interview 2 (Student Panel)
4) Final interview

Supportive community who helps students by giving them opportunities to succeed and grow. By community, it would include teachers, parents, business partners and government who actually knew what we do! #bfc530

My school would have student choice in content through leveraging blended learning as a supplemental curriculum not just a replacement for the in-person options.
We always use virtual classes to replace in-person options, not make new ones available. #bfc530
Space. Flexible seating. Flexible instructional space. More time. The excellent educators I've come to know and respect over the last several years. #bfc530
Hi all! Did you hear that all Donors Choose projects were fully funded last night? Of course, I didn't get mine on there in time! (This is why I don't buy lottery tix - I'm always late to the party!) On another note, it is Whatcha Reading Wednesday in my room! #bfc530
Love the idea of each classroom opening onto an outdoor patio. I have also often envisioned a rooftop staff room patio with garden (living roof). #getoutside ☀

Dedicated Ts who build the school vision together, loads of curious kids, common learning areas for larger group lessons/projects, a great kitchen for cooking, a garden, a place for families to gather, large areas for the arts & PE. #bfc530
Good morning from Atlanta I would design a school that would share resources with the public. The school library would serve the community as well. The park system would assist/ add to athletic facilities. #bfc530
Free breakfast and lunch for all (no one goes hungry), fresh fruit snacks in between. Round tables for breakout sessions, and a conference table large enough for the class to sit to exchange ideas. #bfc530
A future focused staff who, supported by admin, would go "all in" to support a learning-rich, flexible environment for themselves and all students. #bfc530
No school in most Massachusetts schools.
I believe a few are trying to make up for snow on this previously unscheduled day. My friend's district is going on two Saturdays in May!!
#bfc530
A: No standardized testing. I guess that’s what I wouldn’t have in it. I’d like to see a broadcasting studio, so S’s can create video projects for different classes. #bfc530

Perfect school is too big for me to think about this early LOL, but the perfect classroom would have 2 separate sections, one for mini lecture hall style set up & the other a relaxed comfortable independent work. And it has to have a door to an outside play area as well #bfc530
I would say my the first thing for my perfect school would have to be commitment. Commitment by ALL to our “why” so that our “what” has a greater impact. #bfc530

A hiring process that involves watching them teach several sample lessons in addition to an interview. Interviewing is a separate skill from teaching.

Really? One year, we cancelled PD days and them after school until 7 so they counted..it was really, really hard. We can’t go past June 30 in Ct; what about you? #bfc530
OMG - LOVE this idea! A large enough space to spread out, comfy seating, and an area where authors and illustrators can come to give chats and kids can put on poetry readings and..... *love* OH and a coffee/hot chocolate bar! #bfc530
#bfc530 It's a requirement here. Not sure if it's a district thing or state thing. Part of our evaluation cycle although not evaluative. Hard to explain in 140!
Probably because it would require creating a stipend of some sort, and some training, and possibly the need to provide subs which cost money.... you know the deal, or an admin who would allow giving up control, or.... #bfc530

Agree. Our student leader program was once filled by teacher recommendations until a parent said I blocked their child from being selected (which wasn't true). Never felt so disgusted as a teacher that my professionalism & integrity would be questioned like that. #bfc530
#bfc530 Our training is a web based. We do sometimes need subs but we try to work it in to our planning times. Principals don't get any input or info. Totally confidential between Ts.

That's how it should be, a standard. Honestly, I believe G&T programs should include students gifted in music, drama, athletics, etc. If it is truly a gifted and talented program represent all the gifts and talents. #bfc530

Exactly! And that means catering for the Maths & Science Ss, those that like the Humanities (incl. Geography & Business St), Technical subjects, the Creative Arts, Languages, English, Studies of Religion, the whole suite of subjects, all set up for 1:1eLearning too #bfc530
This year we redistributed some furniture in the school and put a few seating areas in our foyer (which previously had nothing but one bench). What a difference! Those areas are now filled with kids all day long who are studying, chatting, reading. It’s so great! #bfc530
A half day every week for teachers to co-plan lesson studies that they will then attempt during the week with other teachers observing in the room. Teachers as researchers. Everyone in the building should be a learner.
Perfect school? Fully staffed (low teacher/student ratio), fully stocked, Innovative tech, sufficient staff development funds for Ts to get all the training they want and need. #bfc530
Lots of light & space for every possible learning configuration.
And I would make sure it has a proper auditorium for school assemblies, plays, performances. My current school is the first I have worked in with one & it is a wonderful space to bring everyone together. #bfc530
A passionate leader. Then, collaborative T’s not just within each content. I would love having coteachers for Physics (one math, one science) and Statistics (one math, one English). The empowerment we get from each other is electric. #bfc530
Designing the perfect school there would be as much natural light as possible, windows that open for fresh air, & open space can can free flow with the needs of Ss & Ts. #bfc530
