#resiliencechat Tidbit: It is important to think about how to recognize the winter holidays, keeping in mind the developmental needs & diversity of students.
A1 #Resiliencechat At school, all of our classrooms had small Christmas trees, we did a gift exchange, and really followed the norms of the day. In the neighborhood, we celebrated quite differently. Las posodas, where we would re-enact the search for a place for Jesus to be born.
A1 #Resiliencechat - part 2 - My dad was in the Lion’s Club, and we held a large Christmas party for hundreds of under-privileged children. It’s like we had the school Christmas, the neighborhood Christmas, and sought to help families in our neighborhood, and lots of church!

A2 #Resiliencechat May of our schools focus on #Kindness#Caring Making an impact through giving, such as collecting resources and money to assist children, schools who were impacted by the horrific fires. And don’t forget to #SPARKLE
A4 #Resiliencechat There could be a great deal of #stress associated with the expectations for #giving. Demands from family. Feelings of inadequacy. And, to some degree, the feeling that one must keep up with everyone else, or face possible ridicule. So hard to keep one’s calm.
A2: A student interviewed me recently, asking what winter holidays I celebrate? He listed off about a half dozen - instantly raising my cultural awareness #thankful
A4 When my husband and I were first engaged, he talked his family up. Early on his grandma still had everyone over. She died December 10, 2001. #resiliencechat

A5 #Resiliencechat When we support children with #resilience building all year round, we empower them to keep their locus of control, say grounded in who they are and are becoming, and potentially inoculate them from some of the #stress tha can be toxic to their systems.
A5: It’s our job to notice Ss, Ts, and Ps who may need our support/love/encouragement. We need to keep an upbeat atmosphere as best as we can! LOVE our jobs! #Resiliencechat
Yes! No one is forcing us to stay in our positions, and we must recognize that, and enjoy each of the moments we are allowed to provide service to others! #Resiliencechat Dude - it’s like we are reading each other’s minds! HAHA

Teaching about holidays allows people from other backgrounds to learn from each other and other cultures. Celebrating them, without learning, takes away the importance. Learning may not be as fun as celebrating, but it's critical to have appreciation. #resiliencechat
Growing up in the two small rooms in the back of this country store offered unrealized perspective.
Not knowing I was poor was the best insulation. #resiliencechat
