I stayed awake for #txed! I’m jessica - half of the Literary Fusions team. We are consultants who write curriculum and PD to integrate subjects and technology!
A1: Actionable learning, Relevance for the maximum number of attendees, Presenter(s) that understand(a) the brain can only absorb what the butt can endure :-) #TXed
A1 I look for coaches and facilitators who walk the walk. I want it it be engaged, and pedagogically sound. I want to be moved and engaged. I want immediate application. Trust. Community. And if I am immersed in the learning even better. #txed
A1. I certainly look for sessions that not only meet the needs of the intended audience, but sessions that are engaging and allow participants to make and take. No more "sit and get" PD sessions! #TXed
A1: one that is focused on the needs of my campus-teachers and students....oh and lots of hands on engagement....Collaboration time..and fun elements are always a plus! #TXed
A1 I first look at who is deliveringthe PD and next if it is grounded in evidence based research with concepts rather than “look I have a shiny new tool”. #txed
Q1- I’m the lone outcast. I love lectures. It’s how I process and think and take notes and brainstorm things. But I do like having short breaks to digest and bounce ideas off others. #TXed
I think relevance and realistic implementation are my top two. I don't like it, but I can even stand a little sit and get if I know what I am getting is worth it. #txed
A1: I look for something I am interested in learning about or something I need to learn about. I look for my personal interests and needs when choosing my PD #txed
#TXed I think lecture has its place. Research shows it is especially useful when learning something brand new. Passive learning like lectures and books can be an asset when being exposed to new complex concepts.
A1 our PD never goes beyond 20 min chunks without interaction/ processing time. Adults have a 20 min attention span - give or take (mine is about 5 min 🤣) #txed
A2 Ideas that I can implement right away before I forget what I have learned about! Also, I love to be able to share with others in order to better understand what I learned. #txed
A2: I want something that will make a difference in what I am doing and who I am doing it for. Can I implement it now? I try giving PD that I know will benefit both Ts and Ss. #txed
A2 #TXed I want to be changed as an educator. I want to be able to extend or generalize what I learned to my context and beyond. I want to walk away knowing how to get the support I need to follow through.
A2: I want to leave with things to think about. I want to go back and start figuring out how the ideas could work in different settings. If I go to a k-2 workshop, I try to figure out how to apply it in HS, etc #txed
A1: A1: I used to look strictly for technology PD. I now would love to find more of the “whys” of what we teach. For example in math. I grew up being taught to just memorize something just because it was a rule but was never shown the whys. #TXed
#txed A2 Teaching teachers is a TOUGH JOB! My hopes form a PD class... 1. Add some humor 2. Make it relevant 3. Tell me a little about who you are and why you are presenting 4. Bring some entertainment to your presentation 5. Bring smiles to those in the room
A2: something I feel like I would actually be able to use right then and there. More than likely I will forget what I learned if I can’t implement or try right away. #TXed

A1. I look for something that I can take back & use immediately, not something for next month or even next week. I also keep an eye out for humor. Always love PD that makes me laugh while learning.
A3 face to face is optimal for me - I love the discussions that are a part of PD - when you get to hear peers additional twists and turns of an implementation idea #TXed
This is why I love our Geek Weeks! @Tommyspall always pumps us up with great technology ideas. Not only how to use- but he also gives us specific ideas on how to use it in our individual contents/grade levels!
Q3: hmm this is a tough one. I like both face to face and individually. I hate going to a PD and having to get up and be in groups 🤦🏼♀️ I’m more of a note taker then a hands on interactive learner. #TXed
A3: I like to learn new tech tools on my own (just let me have it and play). I love to discuss pedagogy and strategies with others. I learn more from the conversation and reflection with others. #txed
Yes! I always say in my PD that there will plenty of time to collaborate ... so they will leave not just with my ideas, but everyone’s ideas! Take my ideas and make them better!! #txed
A3 face to face is optimal for me - I love the discussions that are a part of PD - when you get to hear peers additional twists and turns of an implementation idea #TXed
#txed A3 Face to Face is my favorite, escpecially with a good presenter. A good presenter showcases what a teache should do. They bring in the audience and captivate them. You can feel the inspiration in the room. OUR CLASSES SHOULD FEEL LIKE THIS! #AlwaysBelieve
A3 #txed Reading all the great replies and thinking --- you know-- the key word in there is learn. I am willing to learn in any environment as long as I am going to LEARN
A4- For me personally- I’m such an introvert I like online. And group but if it’s group- I don’t like having to get up every 5 minutes and move. (I know. Not a popular answer... but being honest.) #TXed
The answers to question 3 are exactly what I thought they'd be...all of them. That is what makes a PD so hard to prep. You know, just like in a classroom, that you will have all different learners at all different levels. Difference is, you only get an hour with them. #txed
A3: it depends on the subject. If it is something that really grabs my attention I want to go face to face with a group of ppl I know. But “updates” for general info I rather do online on my time. #txed
A3 #txed Reading all the great replies and thinking --- you know-- the key word in there is learn. I am willing to learn in any environment as long as I am going to LEARN
A2 I love sessions that keep me deep in thought days or weeks after the session. @MisterMinor succeeded in this. His social justice session this summer still has me thinking. He is a wizard when it comes to connecting with people. #txed
Man. Teachers already have to start early to get ready for school. Wouldn’t it be hard for them to attend class BEFORE they have to teach? #ToughJob#TXed
A4- For me personally- I’m such an introvert I like online. And group but if it’s group- I don’t like having to get up every 5 minutes and move. (I know. Not a popular answer... but being honest.) #TXed
A4: I do my best thinking-and learning- in the early early morning and late night...not so convenient for traditional PD, so I’m glad there are options #txed
A4 - summer or any time I have the time to develop an implementation plan. Most learning takes more than 24 hours for me to reflect on the the best possible use of new learning. Unless it's a good joke.... #TXed
in most cases I agree. But a large number of teachers either have 2nd jobs, kids' activities, or both after school. Sometimes before is their only option. #txed
A4 Learning is an all day occurrence! Whenever you want to learn & it strikes your fancy, get after it! But best when you have time to prepare yourself & are ready to absorb concepts. #txed
Q4: out of those options I would go with after school. My best learning would probably be during the summer or on a Saturday where I could do it during the day. #TXed
A4. I personally like to learn in the evenings when I'm not at work. However, if I'm presenting a PD, I get more interaction if its during the day, during a planning period. Presenting after school after a long day of working hasn't been as successful for me. #TXed
#txed A4 IF... You have to have staff development during a school day, IMO the best time to do this is during the day. Before or after school it is harder for a teacher to maintain focus. The BEST way is to have a staff development day when Ss are out of school.
A3 I learn well in most settings if the presenter/topic is on point. I do a lot of learning online as well. If you follow the right people and ask the right questions you can pick up a lot through the internet. #txed
Not going to lie though, sometimes I feel like we say a bunch of catch phrases without necessarily saying much at all. Theory is great- it’s what shapes and molds our beliefs and thinking but I also want ideas for lessons, etc... #TxEd
Agreed...as a “presenter”...I find the best time for PD is in the moment through job-embedded coaching. I hate taking planning/PLC time, so I’ve also incorporated a flipped coach8ng approach with several campuses/districts #txed
A4 I do a lot of learning at night. My brain is extra active in the evening. I am always looking for something to learn though. My job is to be the best I can be for my students. #txed
A5. I love to type, so I type my notes. However, I love when PD has a guided notes page included. I find it effective and easier to follow along with the content/presenter. #TXed
I need more middle school reading people to connect with. DMing is a great idea!! #TxEd This is only my 3rd year in middle scho grades. Before was all elementary.
#TXed I like collaborative notes. Where we are all adding ideas and structure to what we are learning. By reading and reflecting to what you are adding I am able to schematically go deeper. If I can't do collaborative notes in the cloud, I like paper notes next. I also sketch.
A5: @OneNoteEDU@msonenote is what everyone should use for note-taking. You can add pretty much anything you want, drag it wherever you want on the screen, embed videos and files, record audio or video, annotate. You name it. #thebesttoolever#txed
A5 Try to take notes, but usually fail miserably esp if really interested in session. Find myself taking pics of slides that speak to me during really good sessions. Love to like & retweet good ideas or resources from colleagues on @Twitter too! #TXed
#TXed A4 - I’m a morning person. I get to work early and prepare by breaking the day into 30 minute segments and then go! Started to use time instead of feeling used.
A5-Google Docs are great because you can share with others. Great when you have breakout session so you can share ideas with colleagues who go to different sessions. #TXed
#txed A5 I <3 @msonenote Take notes on your phone and it is on ALL your devices for later viewing and editing. I also keep my inspired phrases on #OneNote Whenever they come to my mind I type them into OneNote.
If you do not have the Office Lens app loaded on your device you are missing out. It will take an picture (in document setting) of a slide on a screen even at a drastic angle and automatically square it up for you. Then you can email, save, or upload. #txed
A5 notes with room to add more notes with a space to write reflective ideas with some arrows to boxes on action steps to use the PD effectively. Doesn't sound very organized now that I'm writing it...#TXed
A5- I love to write. I’m a visual learner and I tend to remember what I write and make notes as I’m thinking about things but will take the learning any way I can get it. I’m not choosy. (Just kidding. I like colored pens and the feel of paper.) #TXed
If I am working with campuses that can’t get subs for trainings or don’t have common PLC times, etc...I will create or curate learning pieces for the teachers to read or view before my visit. My time on campus can then be spent in classes with the Ts applying the learning #txed
"The first group of students who attended Pre-K 4 SA in its first year has taken third-grade STAAR exams, and results showed the students were more likely to perform better on state exams and attend class than those who did not attend public pre-K." https://t.co/dVRkQ4OLXq
A6: I attended a leadership training. I know it was not geared towards teachers. But most leadership characteristics can be found in all type of jobs. Being able to motivate people to give their best. Being a leader not a manager. #TXed
The increase in achievement results is impressive, and the increase in enrollment makes my ❤️ happy. Effective early education is a game changer! #TxLege#TxEd
#TXed Probably the one I did in GuamDOE where we did a hands-on collaboration on refreshing their standards based on #istestandards which led to a complete alignment of edtech to core curriculum. Very exciting.
A6: my personal best PD is being in classes with Ts and Ss trying out new things. Getting feedback from Ss about what works is the best kind of PD. They don’t lie! #txed
A6 @EdCampRGV was definitely the best PD I've been to in past 6 months. I love the format of Edcamps, but they did a fantastic job sharing new activities, bringing culture & making you feel welcome! Hope I do half the job with our Edcamp coming up. #bigshoestofill#TXed
A6: leadership conferences where I choose my day and the presenters I want to hear from. EdCamps are the best. Especially when @PrincipalOgg and @Tommyspall make an appearance! #txed
A6 making a call to the bullpen on this one. Tight budgets have shutdown most opportunities for PD in the last year. I did enjoy @JohnWink90 at a ESC session. Now time to read all the good stuff...#TXed
#txed A6 Last summer I attended the #CAMT math conference in Houston. AMAZING PRESENTERS! Blessed to be picked to present at #CAMT this summer in San Antonio. This will be the first time I present after my book comes out! Very exciting!
Another great chat tonight, folks. Thanks to everyone who joined in. If you see me @TCEA next week be sure to stop me and say hi. Don't forget to give your new Twitter friends a follow! #txed
A6) my fave PD has been #TacoBoutIt on #youTube by @friEdTechnology - it's live so I feel like I'm in a training with those awesome women, but I get to be in my house in my PJs.
#txed
A5 Sketchnotes & booksnaps thank you @HeckAwesome@mrmatera@TaraMartinEDU and @Kim_Schepers for the hivesummit this summer. I also use my phone's notepad. Spiral notebooks and crayons keep my normal notes fun and memorable. #txed
A6. I just participated in the Aspiring Superintendent Academy with @tasanet! It was great to hear the stories of sitting Superintendents, collaborate with other Aspiring Superintendents, and to receive specific next steps related to my goal! #TXed
Thanks @pwagnerlcisd and @PrincipalOgg for facilitating this great #TXed chat tonight! Appreciate the hour long PD you shared with all of us! Enjoy the rest of your week!

@pwagnerlcisd, @TCEA, @pwagnerlcisd, @PrincipalOgg
#txed Mr. Toups needs your help... My goal this year is to start presenting about the impact of making #AlwaysBelieve as your first rule. Would love some conference names that I might be able to apply to present at. Any ideas pleas message me. LOVE #TXED!

Most challenged children aren’t given the same opportunities unless they can test VERY well. Investors want to invest in “success schemes,” funded by public coffers. @MikeMorath calling “accountability” a “moral contract” shows how stupid he thinks we are. #TxEd 🍎 #TxLege 💰
A6 Seeing @MisterMinor this summer at NTCTELA was by far the best PD I've ever attended. The online hivesummit is the best digital PD I've ever seen. Both of these not only kept me deep in thought for weeks, they changed how I teach and how I reflect on my actions. #txed
Did something I haven't done in awhile. Just participated in a random chat I saw come up in my feed. So glad I did. We should all do that. Drop in and learn collaboratively from those with whom you do not usually learn. Go #TXed Very smart group of folks. #grateful
