The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Late night in #tedsoxnation lady night but I’m here for #bfc530 because I need it like I need that caffeine. Gotta get pumped up for more #ScienceWeek2018 hijinx.
I might also say, “do you remember what it’s like to be in front of children everyday?” I hope they have had experience as a teacher. One will never know the ups and downs of Ting if they haven’t done it themselves! #bfc530
On an elevator and my district Superintendent is on there ... what would I say ... odds are I would not be able to recognize her ... and that speaks volumes and not in a good way. #bfc530
For the Superintendent elevator chat imagine: Good morning. We are super excited abut the way you are promoting educator PD collaboration and tech innovation to move our students forward. #bfc530
On an elevator ride with my superintendent I would say, "The only buildings near us that have elevators are hospitals. Where are we and what are we doing here? PS I want an extra prep hour." #BFC530
Not that I would say it, but I really think they should get back in the classroom once in a while. It's easy to forget just how hard teaching can be. Also, the expectations of Ts are so much greater now than they used to be. #bfc530
Many don't have much classroom experience. They went the Admin schooling route, and sadly, that kept them from first hand knowledge of the schools they are tapped to run. Something not right there. #bfc530
Our supt. Is very approachable, I frequently see him at committee meetings, etc.His children are in our schools. I’m not sure if this Q suggests we have an “elevator pitch” moment, but that would be odd for me #bfc530
A: I’m proud to say that @wcsschools is a small district and our superintendent @ckgarland is very accessible to the school community. So if we were on an elevator together I’d probably ask “ Where’d we get this money for this fancy elevator?” #BFC530
That's how it was for me in MD. Here in Cape Cod, our Superintendent was with all 16 new hires at new teacher orientation all day #bfc530 Something to be said for district vs county, I think.

We have an amazing superintendent. In a district of 200+ schools and almost 190,000 students he visits schools weekly and stays very connected to teachers and students as well as central office staff. I would probably just say hello and ask him what he's doing that day. #bfc530
We have a new super coming in 2 weeks, so I would introduce myself 1st, then welcome him to the neighborhood. And then issue a standing invitation to come to our school #bfc530
I agree 100%. I had hoped our principal was going to teach with us this week for #scienceweek to remember what it’s like, but that didn’t happen. #bfc530
“Good morning, Kevin. When did we get an elevator?”
(I work in a really small district—130 students, K-12—so the superintendent is also our principal; he’s immersed in the goings-on of the school on a regular basis, so talking to him is almost a daily thing.) #BFC530
We do to. And if I ran into anyone at the higher levels I would not say a word. Don't want to bring the radar down on our school & have them look too closely. #bfc530
This is incredibly sad. I can't imagine doing an admin role without having lots of teaching experience. Teaching is something you have to experience to understand. #bfc530
After introducing myself, I would thank him for putting together the wonderful school I have found to be my new school home. It is is an amazing place and I find new things to love about it every day. #bfc530
mmmmmm......Not what you were wanting I’m sure? About a 6 week rehabilitation after surgery from memory. That should mean having something to celebrate come New Year. #bfc530
So true, at a former district i was at the super had no education experience, only business. Meant for awkward experiences when he had to interact with students. #bfc530

Then, I would like to extend the invitation to him to come and read to a class or two. Just so he could soak in the good. It’s got to be tough doing what he does. Sometimes our leaders need to take a moment to enjoy themselves. #bfc530
GET REAL ABOUT YOUR TEACHING - Join #whatisschool this Thursday, 10/25 at 7pm EDT for the second installment of the 3-week series with @deem_ellen and me. You won’t want to miss this chat...it'll be epic.

My Math class does problem-based learning in #VRG at #VNPS. Followed up by independent practice sets online.
I'd love them to notice the purposeful use of #edtech and the active small group #thinkingclassroom approach to learning Math.

Being able to run a school, I imagine, is not easy, but not knowing what it is like in the classroom when you are making decisions that affect that classroom is wrong. Seems...I don't know, undemocratic. You need to understand the needs of all the people! #bfc530
Much to his dismay, a lot of random things. ;) Just kidding. He is an excellent listener. Even though it’s a larger district he’s often out in buildings and attends events; talking with students, staff and families. We are fortunate to have him. #bfc530

I think I would ask the same question that I do of anyone in this profession, “Why do you do this work? What makes you want to get up each morning?” #bfc530
Our school district is huge and our superintendent is very relatable and connected to schools! He visits a different school every Friday. I would introduce myself, say hello, and ask him what amazing things has he seen in schools lately #BFC530
Highly recommend “Wait What” by James E Ryan when he was Dean of Harvard Graduate School of Education @hgse now President University of Virginia @presjimryan See https://t.co/HFjPdcpLc4#bfc530
I'm lucky to have access to our supt weekly. @Swanton_Supt greets kids, mixes it up with Ts, and keeps a finger on the pulse of our buildings. I'd thank him for being an encourager, believing in change, and valuing T perspective. #WednesdayMotivation#bfc530
#bfc530 I’d say, my job is hard, but your job is impossibly hard and getting harder every year. We appreciate you and thank you for all you do. You do the best you can for us and our kids. How can we better support you?
After small talk, I’d tell him he’s got to come see us with our 4th grade math buddies. It’s been a great empathetic activity that helps my HS Ss. Meanwhile, the GS Ss are getting small doses of fun activities with fractions. Win-win! @SuptTallman#bfc530#redbud132
What are our most successful schools doing differently and how will you support struggling schools (with financial and human resources) with instituting meaningful change?

School staff should be familiar. Community members should, too. School leadership can and should be connectors, developing relationships near and far. #bfc530
