The first Twitter edchat in the Philippines, helping teachers grow their PLN, use tech in the classroom and promoting a culture of teachers helping teachers.
I have some digital presentations that I start with and involve students in discussions about why it is important to follow a certain rule or meet a certain expectation. #edchatPH
A1 How do you introduce rules? By telling them why we have them, what they are for, and how the rules support the school's vision. #edchatPH, Hello everybody! This is a scheduled post.
In the past years ,they have responded nicely to it, but we do have to practice and review those expectations and rules during the first few months of school.#edchatPH
Of course I didn't see the GIF (like the peanut butter) instruction. Here's mine. Summer is the busy time for me preparing the schools we serve with training and Chromebooks so I'm finally getting some beauty rest. #edchatPH
A1: Classroom Orientation Day. Teachers have prepared PPT slides to show the rules and regulations, the desired outcomes, and I Can's or targets. #edchatPH
#edchatph a1 Nothing worse than blah blah of endless rule giving. Try to incorporate them into warm ups & what quote speaks to you and why, #values convos.
A1: In my teacher classes, to introduce accountability, we create the rules together, and I've found that when we listen to the rules that Ss want to see, they are more accepting of the other rules you need to implement. #ourclassrules#edchatPH
A2: Knowing ahead what you want for your learners half of the journey is done. Use empathy when you start engaging the learners in the discourse. Involve them in the activities. #edchatPH
#edchatph a2 Big, big fan of reverse learning intentions, where ss tell you what rules they picked up on. Retrieval of info embeds it better. Ss need to name to claim rules.
A2 - There are activities that can blend both positive expectations and the ability to learn about students. Also, building those bridges early most certainly helps with management of the class later. #edchatPH

A3 - Apps like https://t.co/PTiqwSicPO, padlet, Flipgrid or just getting ideas from others is a great way to start off the year. Super easy and you learn a lot quickly. #edchatPH
A2b - Relationships and expectations go hand in hand. The old ideas that you focus solely on content is not only outdated, it’s ineffective for many students. #edchatPH

#edchatph a3 Building relationships it is great to use old magazines to create #Values posters, letters, designs. It helps build ownership of space too.
A1 - I let students think about what they view as important. Then I’ll list some ideas. Not a big fan of “rules”, but rather guidelines for success. #edchatPH
A3: GAMES. Teacher-made board games, Bingo cards, pass-the-ball paper, etc. were used to motivate the learners to participate. Making them feel at-home on the first day and providing activities where they enjoy were positive ways in promoting learners involvement. #edchatPH
We do have a pilot pack for schools that want to start using Chromebooks. Ultimately, it's just a tool. We still need to make sure that Ts focus is on pedagogy. #edchatPH
We don't have to wait until later on to do this. We can start from the beginning listening to our Ss and showing them that we value their concerns. #edchatPH

Have students design, contemplate, and vote on the rules and expectations of the classroom so they're forming their own, agreed upon community. #edchatPH
