Join in the #HISDAdminChat conversation each Sunday night at 6pm CST as we discuss the challenges we face and the successes we celebrate while learning and leading as an HISD Administrator.

Good evening! Karina Lopez, AP from hartman ms, and lately I have spent too much time shopping around for a pair of boots #RodeoSeasonisNear#HISDAdminChat
What will yield the most impact for our students? People in the morning paperwork at night. If it just requires a laptop I usually do it after the kids are gone. #HISDAdminChat
A1. I try to focus on the data. It tells you where to focus and what truly is important. Most importantly, my team! Practically every decision is team orientated.
#HISDAdminChat
A1. Instruction and growth need to be of constant focus, but we must also make sure the conditions are conducive to learning: student safety, safe environments, etc. #HISDAdminChat
Q1: When ALL is important, a campus must prioritize based on what will increase student achievement and progress the campus as a whole. Sometimes the “small” things fall under the radar when they truly need the most attention. #HISDAdminChat
A1: Most of my time is shifted to campus priorities first; I have found that if I stick to my outlook calendar plan as much as possible based on my weekly goals aligned to instructional goals...then its an awesome week! #HISDAdminChat
A1: You have to prioritize. In the leader in me world, it’s called staying in quadrant 2. Your big rocks should be items that’s important but not urgent. If not, you’ll find yourself putting out fires all day and restarting your to do list daily. #HISDAdminChat
Support for teachers and students first......if it isn't going to make a direct impact on instruction or students or our families it quickly isn't a priority and moves down on my list. #HISDAdminchat
A1:You have to ask yourself, does this impact kids? If it does, it goes to the top! I have always enjoyed the rule of thumb, people before paperwork too! #HISDAdminChat
I think it's necessary to take campus culture, climate, and at times, overarching themes into consideration. Short term and long term visions make a difference. #HISDAdminChat
Happy Sunday! It's Errica Dotson-Hooper, Teacher Specialist at @DoganElementary. I spend most of my time at home, taking care of my family. #HISDAdminChat
A2. I must grow and develop my teacher leaders. I must push them past their comfort zones! I must see their potential and help them reach their professional goals! #HISDAdminChat
A1 If ALL is important then nothing is important. It's imperative that we as leaders determine our school's collaborative priorities that will yield the greatest positive impact on S learning. Then we must resist distractions & maintain a staunch focus on our goals #HISDAdminChat
A2: Fill my soul with all the positive energy from scholars and amazing educators determined to make the change. I don't like dwelling in negativity! #HISDAdminChat
A2: That's easy. "Must Do" is spending as much time as I can in classrooms. This not only gives me perspective on what we're working on, but I get to see Ss in action, which is what it's all about. #hisdadminchat
A2. Passing period. Visibility is key, both for your staff and students. I'm right there with you team, ensuring students know we are there. Secondly I woul say PLCs. I lead them at times. We are learning together! #HISDAdminChat
A2 - I truly enjoy just simply talking to the students every day. I want to hear what's going on in their lives, their laughter, and witness their accomplishments. #HISDAdminChat
A2: spending time with the kids whether in class or during lunch. If I’m on campus. I have to have daily chats with my kiddos. They actually seek me out if they haven’t seen me all day. #HISDAdminChat
A1: Ensuring that the math team and I never become complacent in our teaching—that we keep a growth mindset and continue to look for way to sharpen our skillls as educators . #HISDAdminChat

Listening to them laugh is awesome! And when they are getting a laugh or giggle at my goofiness/expense, that's even better. Humor brings a sense of being genuine when with them. Good stuff. #HISDAdminChat
A2 - I truly enjoy just simply talking to the students every day. I want to hear what's going on in their lives, their laughter, and witness their accomplishments. #HISDAdminChat
A2 My must do is to be present in our classrooms, engaged with our Ss, watching them grow- this provides my professional fill and motivation to keep working to facilitate the learning environment they need to be successful #HISDAdminChat
A2. Hands down visiting classrooms,. Spending a few minutes daily reading professionally is also something that is crucial in filling my bucket. #HISDAdminchat
Q3: Great question! Bonus points if you actually poll them! I'll be in Houston next week visiting with Districts to ask them what we are doing well and where we need to improve. We also ask our users every 3 months. #HISDAdminChat
A3) I think they would say I most value the students. And that my actions are aligned to ensure that our teachers have what is needed to create a positive experience for the students. #HISDAdminChat
A3: Danny Boy, you got me on this one!! I honestly think the answer would vary depending on the stakeholder. But the majority would say student achievement specifically reading achievement. But it would be inter to poll my parents with that just that one question. #HISDAdminChat
A3: They would say WES feels the most important thing is the emotional well being of our students. We've created a place where S's emotions are acknowledged and conversations are valued. #hisdadminchat
A3. We are working to creating a culture of continuous improvement, especially along academic lines. As a first year principal of an “at risk” academic school, we (teachers, staff) collaborate often to and make excellence an expectation. #HISDAdminChat
Good stuff tonight #HISDAdminChat friends. Sounds like a few of us are thinking of asking our campus community a few questions as a result of our conversation. Have great week - go get 'em!
A3: As I reflect more, I would want them to know that we strongly believe that a zip code shouldn’t determine your experiences. We try to provide every opportunity for our kids. No matter what. #HISDAdminChat

Back to A3: You could easily poll your staff using something like https://t.co/MB3fQ1xMgG to easily ask the question and have it be anonymous. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I believe it would be said that I am most focused on ensuring that all students get the educational opportunity that they deserve, being properly placed and receiving Tier II and Tier III interventions as needed. #HISDAdminChat
