My name is Steve and I work in Arlington ISD as the blended learning coordinator. I'm the @CanvasLMS admin, as well. Happy to be participating in tonight's #canvas4elem chat on station-rotation (centers)!
A1 - I like when teachers record themselves giving the lesson, so students can continue to watch until they understand. The lesson w/ modules allows for student to go at their pace. This gives more 1 on 1 time for the teacher that our babies need! #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
My name is Tonya Mercer. I am a 2nd Mentor teacher in Indiana. Ready to learn form some fabulous educators on using @CanvasLMS in stations and centers. #canvas4elem
As a department, we've used @CanvasLMS to host resources and self-paced learning experiences in professional learning contexts. Independent PL, in context of a F2F learning session. #canvas4elem
Happy I made it home in time to follow along with the #canvas4elem chat. I've not yet tried station rotations with Canvas so will mostly be lurking tonite and soaking up y'alls great ideas!

I love it when I see teachers using Canvas as a way for students to record and share the work they do in stations. I've seen this done with video, discussion posts, and screenshots! #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
A2: Set your expectations at the beginning of the year and before each lesson. Model good technology usage and use teachable moments to redirect. #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
Good evening and thanks for joining us! #canvas4elem Do you have an example of a lesson that you could share (an outline of what students did at the station)?
A1: I would love to see a mix of station/center rotations happening in the classrooms. LTIs/Apps like Quizlet, watching videos for remediation/extension, recording their thinking, all going on simultaneously depending on where students are in the learning cycle. #canvas4elem
A2 It really is all about teaching procedures before beginning stations. Once students understand the expectations, they will be successful in utilizing Canvas for stations.#canvas4elem#forneyconnects
#canvas4elem Q2 I make sure instructions are clear for my 4th graders to follow in cards or on board. Also have a back up center in case internet is down or slow so far this only happened once this year
A2: Setting clear expectations and going through the process of modeling until it becomes habit. From my standpoint, reimagining my trainings to model this for elem teachers! #canvas4elem

In regard to stations, the most important procedures would be for transitions to/from the stations, plus setting the expectation that students are on task throughout the station time! #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
#canvas4elem So far I created a document with directions and links on several topics that table groups will rotate through. It is in Sway now, but I am challenging myself to use Canvas this summer.
Having them record themselves reading a story. My first go around I tried to run a reading group while they were at that station. It got a little loud. Still trying to perfect how I do that. #canvas4elem
#canvas4elem elementary dean; been using canvas for PLC’s and faculty meetings-just created a course that has “centers” for adults; want to hear from teachers about classroom centers
A2: I regularly run 3 stations at a time: independent reading station, small group I facilitate, independent computer station. I position students in computer station so their screens are visible to me. #canvas4elem
A3: Upload an image that you can reuse on each assignment to indicate if the station activity should be completed individually or as a group. #canvas4elem
Q3: Once the students are in the Canvas course, using a “landing” page on Canvas and linking content in step by step order for students to access seems to work best. Formatting it in a table helps to keep it all in order. #canvas4elem
#canvas4elem Q3: I create a text header for my tek we are working on and then I organize my activities based on that underneath the tek. So the students are always aware of what we are working on.
I based my whole seating arrangement on being able to see screens while I run my reading group. I can’t wait for Apple classroom next year. #canvas4elem
Nice GIF! Welcome to the #canvas4elem, J.L.! I would think station work could include things like watching a video for correct position for shooting a basket, lifting weights, etc. Or hearing about the relevance of why a certain activity = fitness & health.
A1: students I worked with in my school district used photo and video apps to demonstrate learning across multiple modalities in the same assignment. Marking was done in speedgrader, typically with a rubric for assessing learning outcomes. #canvas4elem
#canvas4elem Question 2: I like that I can have the directions for the activity posted at the same time participants are exploring the links. I also have guiding questions to focus the activities back to the overall topic.
#canvas4elem Q3 I put high levels texts in Canvas for group reading and answer q on paper to allow conversation. Indep work are quizzes that kids can work by themselves. Looking for more ideas
Does anyone use Boom cards and @CanvasLMS together? Do you just add a link in an assignment to the Boom Card deck if so. These would be great for stations. #canvas4elem
Maybe using it to allow students to listen to/watch directions a second (or third) time when you have various activities going on? Also, it would be great to use it for students to record data from their time in PE! #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
Definitely worth keeping in consideration: the ability to 'lock' a student into a certain path even when they're working independently in @CanvasLMS via module settings #canvas4elem

#canvas4elem we model our instructional framework-begin with an inspire. Lots of discussions which are great for teachers to chat with different teams. We started a couple of times with teachers sharing work samples they uploaded
#canvas4elem Sarah from White Settlement ISD - I'm here to learn how others are implementing Canvas effectively at the elementary level. There are several great ideas I've read so far tonight in this Twitterchat
R2 ensure Ss have enough time to complete what you ask them to do, that you are not asking them to do something new. It should be something they can do on their own so you can focus on other teaching #canvas4elem
Q4: Additionally, if students are logged into Canvas they can answer the reading comprehension questions under quizzes. It takes a little bit of work upfront, but it is great for data analysis and it will then be in Canvas for years to come! #canvas4elem
Q4: There are a lot of great tools that embed into Canvas! Some of them that we have used most often include Blendspace (https://t.co/u1pWNNgevl), Padlet, and H5P. Of course PDFs, any Google applications and YouTube work great too! #canvas4elem
I think using @CanvasLMS to provide ready extensions is the #1 thing a reluctant teacher should consider for their initial uses for Canvas #canvas4elem
I haven't implemented, but ideas for PE+Canvas+CBs are stations in the gym. Ss perform specific exercise. IE: bicycle curl. Then would record themselves/partner/group explaining how to do the exercise, which muscle groups are being worked, etc.
Q4: Reading passages that students are working on in groups or individually can be embedded into Canvas as a PDF or Google document. The web extension Kami allows you annotate and highlight the passage! #canvas4elem
Q4 https://t.co/yBBwxtYR5S is amazing. We've used it with kindergartners all the way to high school. We've even had students create their own content to demonstrate mastery of learning objectives. #forneyconnects#canvas4elem!
#canvas4elem Q4- I embed Quizlet into my modules for students to use a review tool and short videos for discussion boards. I also embed virtual labs for my students.
Not very much, as it's hard to do in typical professional learning contexts. However, I try to model it a bit, especially just the ease of creating Group Sets and adding learners. #canvas4elem
I just got all of my Comprehension tests in there this year. I’m expecting lots of love from my fellow 2nd grade teachers next year. Share your work Canvas Commons. #canvas4elem
#canvas4elem Q4-- I also embed Edpuzzle for my students. Embedding makes it quicker for students to get to work, because I can click and it's there for them ready to go. Cuts back on their "search" time.
#canvas4elem Sway embeds nicely. I can put the links in the Sway and include extra resources in Canvas to extend thinking, like a synthesis discussion.
A5: I want to brag on all of our FISD teachers that have brought Canvas and instructional technology in our primary grades. Thank you for everything you do for our students!!! #canvas4elem#forneyconnects
A5: In my guided reading group during stations I have linked the Journeys leveled readers and added the pdf work. So if it’s time for the next station they can continue to work. #canvas4elem
Q5 So proud of our teachers and how they've implemented Canvas with the Littles. It can be frightening to try something new, but they step up to the challenge in a beautiful way that positively impacts student learning. #forneyconnects#canvas4elem!
A big thanks to everyone who participated! It was a great learning opportunity. I have several things I need to go back and look into now. #canvas4elem! #forneyconnects
Best part about stations & @CanvasLMS - Ss can have meaningful and tech-integrated learning experiences, even in classrooms where devices are not 1:1. #canvas4elem
It’s amazing how often we do hold learners up without realizing it. Obviously not our intention but scary when you start to look for it. @canvaslms helps correct that. #canvas4elem
Q5: Ss in Canvas discussion/groups posted two short term goals & one long term each. Gave Ss opportunity to also write something positive on peers goals and feedback/interaction was awesome! #canvas4elem
Thx to all who participated (or just lurked) during our #canvas4elem chat. Special thx to our hosts and teachers from #forneyconnects who led the way! Mark your calendars for the last chat of the year . . . It's all about CELEBRATIONS!
J.L., thx for sharing that. We haven't heard much about S to S interaction in tonight's chat and that's something that should always be embedded in quality learning experiences! #canvas4elem
R5 with all of the testing going on lately the Ss have been begging for normal. It was great to get back to routine and the Ss just jumped right back in on modules during Stations making sure they had e-learning ✅ then moving on to other modules in the course! #canvas4elem

#canvas4elem I've used the discussion boards as a way for students to expand on each others ideas by requiring them to reply to another person as part of their assignment. With the right guidelines in place it is great way for students to help each other grow.
Thank you everyone who joined #canvas4elem! If you have any questions for your host don't hesitate to reach out to Stacy Joseph@ Forney ISD! #forneyconnects
A2- I think Canvas is a great tool for stations and differentiation. You can embed Google Classroom to assign classrooms based on your students levels or needs and provide differentiated tasks in each one. @JonesAcademy1#canvas4elem@KidsDeserveIt@AISDdigitalearn
