Each Monday evening at 8PM EST, music teachers get together and share ideas about important topics within music education. It’s a great chance to interact directly with educators from all over the world and to get new tips and tricks to help you succeed in the classroom. The entire #musedchat discussion is organized and moderated by Joe Guarr.
Welcome to the first #musedchat of 2019, our annual New Year's Resolutions chat. Be sure to introduce yourself! #musiced
How was your break? Tell us in GIF form.
Good evening, I’m John from MI! Just started student teaching today! I may have spent too much time resting over break and I am totally fine with that. #musedchat
A1: In four months I will be finishing my master's program in learning design and technology with @smumn. I taught for 6 years before making the decision to pursue my Master of Education, and I haven't looked back! #musedchat
Yes I haven't been in charge of it for a couple years. The teacher that was transfered last year and the ensemble was dormant for a year. I felt gulity that we didn't have one so I tested the waters and we have 25 new members

Sarah, band from MI.
A1: actually read some of the excellent music ed texts I've acquired! Keep working on my secondary instruments and rehearsal techniques.
Well now that it's out there it has to happen right?! 😅 The working title so far is "Creative Musicking: Practical, Real-Life Ideas to Get Your Learners Creating Their Own Music." Could change slightly but that is the gist of it. #musedchat
#musedchat I tried to save paper but kids keep using their phones and I waste time waiting for them to download again and then its next to impossible to read off their phones
A2: I'll need the support of my friends and family as I become reclusive during my capstone project. Using my grad school classmates and district music colleagues as a resource for feedback and direction during my design thinking capstone will be important. #musedchat
A2 1 anyone that has vocal techniques that they can pass on to this lonely tubist
2. Any suggestions for good masterclasses/clinics or festivals in Texas and or Florida for concert or marching band and drumlines?
3. Need to say no more often

Continue to take care of myself through relaxing when I can, doing yoga regularly [1 year strong!], and keep searching to be as efficient as possible with the boatload of work that is being a music educator.
A:3 Finding a better way to organize my to do list. I need a balance between super detailed and simple, between long term project planning and what needs to be done today. #musedchat
And if you end up going to Florida, Disney is an awesome experience for bands. We did Magic Kingdom parade and a workshop a couple years ago. #musedchat
Several parades throughout the day, often featuring multiple bands. I think they've got room for a variety of experience levels. Workshops are good for anybody. #musedchat
A1: Continue to utilize my PLN for resources and networking opportunities; to improve organization; and to play more (primary & secondary instruments) #musedchat
Q3: I want to increase my digital footprint as a content creator. This includes producing more a cappella covers that people can view on my @YouTube channel, but I also want to create free, educational content that people can learn audio/video production from. #musedchat
Like @MrBMusicTeacher says, not comparing myself to other bands/programs and seeing the improvement and progress of OUR students, to develop musicality from day one in my beginner 9’s and to bring more student focused topics into class #musedchat
A3: Want to continue to improve at the work/life balance. Also want to get better at self care. Developed some horrific eating habits during marching season this year. #musedchat
A3: Hmm, balancing work and home. Finding ways to be even more efficient with work-related responsibilities, so I can have more time to take care of myself. #musedchat
