#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.

A1: As the father of a second year college student, I have seen that communication and organizational skills are very important to college success; especially in the first years. ;-) So any badges which recognize and promote 21st century skills would be useful. #badgechat
Hi badging community! Kim from the Badgr team joining #BadgeChat for the next 30 min. Jumping in… A1: Lots of our users are looking at earning 21st Century Skill badges

A1: Students do a lot outside of formal coursework. Credentials like badges can help recognize the value of specific activities (hobbies, volunteer work, etc.) that might not otherwise recieve attention. #badgechat
Lloyd from Stockton here: Q1 - We are looking at optional soft skills/life skills badges and micro-certs for organizational skills, budgeting, career awareness, etc. Good demonstrable skills to have for college onboarding and exit #BadgeChat

A1: Finding a place to live could be another option for youth transitioning to college. Maybe they get a "good-roomie" badge or "qualified renter" badge. #badgechat

A3: Digital Badges are still relatively unknown in many organizations. We need more endorsements by colleges and employers. Schools also need to take the lead to initiate these programs, perhaps with help from their state educational agencies #badgechat

A3: IMHO Much of it is awareness. It is easy award grades in conventional topics, but more difficult to understand things outside of the normal program structure. Educating admins is the key.

A3: We’ve seen a lot of educational institutions and some connected private businesses but they are generally still unknown outside Ed or job readiness circles. #badgechat
A4: In our case, we are educating and enlisting help from the people who deal directly; admissions and the career center. They both have vested interest in success from the student perspective.#BadgeChat
A4: Maybe parents is a natural entry-? They could stay up to date on learning and progress. Perhaps also job counselors and admissions officers in touch prior to transition. #BadgeChat
A1: Scalable summer ed programs using a #digitalbadge ecosystem.
A2: Firearm and safety training. School safety as a core competency. A #badgechat to meet the enhanced requirements for crisis/drill training in schools.
Defensibility + Transparency + Accountability + Safety.

I think just like on your resume we need to make the case for why our experiences are relevant. Badges help us to document those experiences #badgechat
A5: A diverse set of prioroties and problems can be addressed by #digitalbadges in 2018 and beyond. Establishing traction on all important issues is key to the future. Big transitions ahead!
Thanks for hosting #badgechat today @donpresant. My takeaway: look for ways to help build badge consumer communities. Great inspiration for a Monday. Thanks all #badgechat
