#WO2WorldChat is a monthly Twitter conversation for current educators and school leaders that takes place every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 8:30 PM EST. Diana DaCosta, along with 2 co-moderators from the West Orange Teacher Twitter Taskforce Team will host these monthly chats. #WO2WorldChat's mission is to promote collegiality, collaboration, and professional development beyond the confines of the traditional school day that in turn will promote the success of all students.
Welcome to tonight's #WO2WorldChat. So excited to be hosting with my friend,@beccapelli
Thk u to everyone who is joining us on THE LAST DAY of SCHOOL!! Woohoo! I am Diana Ferrera, 5th ELA @MtPleasantWO

So glad you are all here - I am Rebecca Giacopelli Gifted Program T grades K-5 and happy to be hosting tonight w/ @dferrera521. As a multi grade level T I look forward to developing new strategies on how to better prepare my students for future learning experiences. #WO2WorldChat
Hello #WO2Worldchat Tweeps! Diana DaCosta k-6 Tech integration specialist- excited that school's out for summer! I'll be taking a lurking role this time around. Can't wait to learn with all of you!
Q1: Ss need to be prepared for 2nd grade by being responsible & accountable for their own work. Teaching them responsibility is an important skill we teach our students. #WO2World#Wo2worldchat#RedwoodTweets
A1: I am looping with my class & I feel I've given them the skills/tools necessary to prepare for the next grade level. They are tech savvy & innovative. They know about being responsible & accountable. They work well together independently & collaboratively. #WO2WorldChat#proud
A1 SKILLS: we need to assist Ss w/ collaborating, building resilience, understanding digital tattoos, & learning how to rationally argue w evidence, a skill many adults lack TOOLS: MUCH greater stress should be put on spreadsheets, graphing, coding #WO2WorldChat
A1: Ss need to be able to write a well constructed thesis statement, annotate a text to select evidence to support their thesis, and work on analyzing primary source documents...all of which we work on in 6th grade! #WO2WorldChat
A2: Looking back on my students' previous grade level, a skill that they came prepared with that has impressed me was their high level of comfort with Chromebooks & google apps. Made it easier to integrate tech into the curriculum. #WO2WorldChat
A2: Been a while since my classrm days; Im impressed w/ Ss ability to be tolerant w/ one another; might not trickle into halls, but I see patience; many seem to understand html & camera usage well; they also explore well when they care abt a subj they care abt #WO2WorldChat
A1: This year my Ss came prepared using transitions in their writing, which allowed me to scaffold & help them use that knowledge of transitions and transfer it into voice in their writing. #WO2WorldChat
A2: I’ll answer w/ #stuvoice perspective on my Ts best quality. I was impressed when they weren’t by the book all the time!!! Let’s be #Innovative and #Creative 🙌🙌 #WO2WorldChat
A1: In order to prepare my Ss for second grade, I think it is super important to foster independence and accountability across all subject areas This is a HUGE transition year! #wo2worldchat#wo2world
Question for @thelivbits Do you start to feel performance based project'd out? I wonder what will happen when 5th graders start to have 5 metacognitive projects/genius hrs a yr / every yr. Do ou think there will be such a day? #WO2WorldChat
A2: I was impressed this year at how many of my Ss were so skilled at using the google apps. I found myself moving much quicker in the beginning of the year because they had a good tech base.
A3: I am fortunate that I have worked in 4th& 5th grade. So I easily collaborate with colleagues at both grades. We have open dialogue about curriculum & ways to be creative. We discuss assisting students of ALL levels. Either at common planning or other times. #WO2WorldChat
A3 Communicating w colleagues via PLNs, Twitter, Gmail, GHangouts, Team time, INTERNAL Gsites, the NSO Yr 2 sessions; there's nothing better than TIME w peers. Dept mtgs yes; I do NOT include fac mtgs in this count. As a district we must improve internal communics #WO2WorldChat
A1: I want to my Ss to be independent thinkers and have perseverance and grit when working through challenges. These are skills that I hope they carry with them always.
A3: Definitely need to collaborate more! Most convo happens through the supervisor, or at monthly dept mtgs. Its hard when everyone is in different buildings, with different schedules. #WO2WorldChat
A2: I am always amazed by my incoming firsties... this year I was super impressed with their ability to segment and blend letter sounds. Thanks, Fundations! Also, their knowledge of anything tech-based! #wo2worldchat#wo2world
Yes ballet, even my love of sharks and ichthyology. Using tech to learn about the world. My blog. Just about all the passions I have 😬 I’m good at school. But school isn’t always good for me 😬 #WO2Worldchat
A3: This year we collaborated a ton with K Ts. I'm still hoping for more built in opportunity to plan vertically. It's so beneficial for Ts and Ss. All we need is time! 🙏🏻#WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A3: I always go to my #kinder Ts for advice on their former Ss. I ask my 2nd grade colleagues different curriculum ?? in order to help me deliver my instruction the best way possible. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World#RedwoodTweets
Interesting. I bet your presence in a classrm might make some of your Ts nervous b/c you are undoubtedly more tech & educ saavy than they. Do you ever find this to be the case or no? I'm sorry you feel that sometimes school is not good for you. :[ #WO2WorldChat
A4: Types of opportunities or tools that help facilitate continual communication with colleagues to support instruction are common planning times, using google classroom, Twitter chats (intra/inter school chats), sometimes even texting and emailing each other. #WO2WorldChat
A4: We have a lot of conversations during our lunch time... Sometimes we see what others are doing from their bulletin board displays. @Twitter also allows a lot of opportunity for collaboration and communication. #WO2WorldChat#Wo2World#RedwoodTweets
A4: @Google helps 6th grade collaborate on our own time schedule. We are able to share, create, edit and implement lessons across disciplines! #WO2WorldChat
A4: This year Twitter and social media has definitely helped KIT with Ts across the district. Hoping to use @GoogleHangout over the summer to "meet" with colleagues. The old fashion group text is helpful, too! #WO2World#WO2WorldChat
ALL THE TIME. I wanted to blog about how it feels to have your passions ignored st school but I decided not to write it because it would make Ts mad. #WO2Worldchat Not all Ts REALLY care what kids think. 🤷♀️
A4: To communicate with colleagues across the district I use #Twitter. My new #WO2World PLN has given me new ideas, tools, and support throughout the year. #WO2WorldChat
A6: Get to know your kids before reading any parent surveys or report card comments. Forming your own opinions is an important part of getting to know your students! #WO2WorldChat#wo2world#RedwoodTweets
A5: This year was a growing year using tech in our classrooms. Reflecting on the successes and challenges will help me plan for next year. I'm hoping to integrate across all subjects next year and experiment with new platforms. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A4: In my role, @Twitter has helped tremendously to stay connected and being able to meet face to face regularly with a team of teachers to "think tank" and dream build #LoveMyTribe#WO2Worldchat
Q5: More reading & writing time! W/out TIME to read & write students simply cannot develop to their full potential. All the strategies in the world can't help if Ss don't actually read & write! You can't learn to play soccer by watching it on TV. #WO2WorldChat
A5: Looking back on this current year, something that I could further develop to better prepare students for the next grade level? Again, I feel that I've prepared them since I have previously taught 5th grade. They know to expect more intensity/responsibility. #WO2WorldChat
A5 I am all about Growth Mindset in the coming yr: you are never THERE. Metacognition, reflection, sketchnoting, these are the behaviors I'll practice more in the upcoming yr; Also building avenues w/ digital tools for better communication #WO2WorldChat
A5: Revising work! We spend so much time creating something, but so little time reflecting on it and revising it. If Ss could learn to authentically self-assess, it doesn't matter what grade they're going into, they'd have a huge advantage! #WO2WorldChat
A5: This year was a growing year using tech in our classrooms. Reflecting on the successes and challenges will help me plan for next year. I'm hoping to integrate across all subjects next year and experiment with new platforms. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A5: Next year, I want to enhance the STEM/ #designthinking done in the gifted program classroom. Ss love it and I love the critical thinking skills being developed while working out the challenges. #WO2WorldChat
A5: Next year I want to take it to the next level by changing student perspective; ie tech is not a toy but a tool. This year we played but next year we build. #WO2WorldChat
A5: Developing EdTech Leadership capacity in schools: Building Bands (coming soon to a school near you...stay tuned!), professional blog writing, and a creation of a Hub for all things EdTech #GOALS#WO2Worldchat
A6 I have high homes for my virtual bookclub on @MsMagiera s Courageous Edventures; practical suggestions on approach, reflection, community solutions, edtech, growth mindset: REALLY excited abt #WO2ndaryTechTm too! Any/everyone pls join:2MJ9n4U #WO2WorldChat
A6: My current 5ths, upcoming 6ths, thrive when given choice and the opportunity for project based learning and social action projects. Kids can make a difference...give them the chance to do so! #WO2WorldChat
A6: Looking ahead, what can I share with students' upcoming teacher(s) that will help them better prepare for the transition in September? I am their new teacher. LOL! Moving from 4th to 5th. BUT I've talked with the 5th grade team about students abilities, etc. #WO2WorldChat
A5: I would like to develop the Ss independence when using technology especially @Seesaw & @Flipgrid. By giving Ss more of a voice on these platforms it will help them become more independent and more prepared for 2nd grade! #WO2WorldChat#WO2World#RedwoodTweets
A6: My co-teach & I created checklists that describe our Ss strengths/challenges. We attached any strategies the helped this year. This way 2nd grade Ts have a clearer picture of each child before Day 1. #WO2WorldChat#WO2World
A3: Collaboration is key in my role and I love to buzz about the building collaborating and planting seeds of thought. All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today.
A7: After reading my Ss beautiful notes, cards and letters, I am certainly most proud that they see themselves as readers & writers. Their own words are their greatest gain! #WO2WorldChat
A7: Something you are proud your students have gained that I want to share is they are very kind & accepting of others. They help each other without hesitation & while knowledge is important, it is important to me that they are kind to each other! #WO2WorldChat#KindnessMatters
A7: I don't have Ss, but I'm really proud that Ts who've decided to embrace this #WO2ndaryTechTm journey into... ? already feel inspired & excited. We can change culture 2gether. TY to these Ts who said Yes to the call2Adventure! #WO2WorldChat
A6: Transitions are difficult for everyone. I think it's important to get to know the Ss as individuals and to build a relationship with them. Ss will perform to their greatest potential if they feel valued and loved. Build a classroom community and you will go far.
A7: My Ss know how to write a good thesis statement, pick evidence to support their thesis, and write it into a coherent essay. Analysis is still a work in progress, but often a difficult concept for 6th graders. #WO2WorldChat
A7: I am proud that my Ss were able to create awesome @geniushour projects where they collaborated with experts and presented their work on our @Seesaw blog. #WO2WorldChat
A7: So proud of the K-5 teachers who took a leap of faith and explored ways to amplify their students' voices with tech! I am proud of all the #WO2World Tweeps who contribute to this PLN #WO2Worldchat
Thank you for joining @DFerrera521 and I tonight for the #WO2WorldChat. Loved the conversation and hope you have a great summer. See you in the Twitterverse.
