Lets get our night started right! Tell us who u are, where ur from, and 5 words to describe your school culture
Most anxiety is convincing teachers it is worth the work!
A1: Not being able to impact anyone is my biggest fear of teaching. I try to teach needed things, so I want the Ss to learn.
A1:I have been entrusted to have a lasting impact in a child's life. Gives me anxiety. Good anxiety but anxiety nonetheless

YES, impact or bust! I quite agree!
A1: I teach bigs, so standardized test prep, college admissions, helping Ss make good choices about college/career, etc.
FYI - this awesome lady here is a Ss herself! ; bending minds and taking names! So proud.
A1: I stress over not having enough time to give personal, sincere, valuable feedback to inspire & encourage growth.
A1: that any student on any given day leaves school not wanting to return the next day.
more and more of this seems to be popping up
A1 I don't want to mess up and bomb a workshop. Freaks me out, but it also makes it exciting!
A1: Jill here from SC, joining in a bit late. The stress of end of course exams is one area.
A1), I haven't had my own classroom since 2013 but still have nightmares of students acting up and testing me day 1, lol
Yes, I feel this way too! I am a risk taker! Will my principal back me up? https://t.co/uRmF9PFffL
A1: Am I supported to take risks, and am I supported if they fail.
so true! If we burn out we fail our kids and families
A1: I'm not nervous day 1, but I have day-1 nightmares in early Aug where everything goes wrong the 1st day. Anyone else?
A1: How to get it across to the Ss. That, or not being as awesome as
A1)Goals aplenty, never ending challenges, the simple fact that I can never accomplish all that I desire to accomplish.
A1 After over a month off, I was very much settled in to comfortable, stress-free summer mode and then

A1: When I taught, it was fear of not connecting, being boring/not relatable, and being just ok. https://t.co/kXxyB3ENIE
A1 See GIF. At left, invisible pile of so much to do; at right anthropmorphized so little time. https://t.co/Xz2hwXPVGv
A1(cont) I always have open house jitters no matter how long I've been teaching. Just the format of it.
Elementary principal SWMO. It's the most important job on earth next to parenting. That causes a bit of anxiety.

Hello ! First timer from Texas
A1: Anxious most public schools will adopt "chocolate covered-broccoli" digital games instead of true games.
Bueller?....Bueller?....Bueller??

Yep! Right there with you!
that's me too! I get that

A1: We're 1:1, so I've stressed about our network being down and no one having access to lessons. https://t.co/6hEz9807fA

I think as Ts we all fear not being awesome or liked by our Ss. I know I am. https://t.co/mfRyTley67
A1: How to get it across to the Ss. That, or not being as awesome as
Most anxiety? Engaging "most of my Ss" when they are all at a different place

A2: Cultivating relationships with students, seeing them grow, and working and growing alongside other like-minded people
A2: When I see the Ss lower their walls and we have some real dialogue in class. Teaching = Relationships
A1: That I will have to explain a question I don't fully understand and look incompetent in front of my student.
A2: And seeing so many former ss becoming teachers and continuing the circle is pretty amazing as well.

You guys are the best! Trying to catch up on life after being gone for the week!
Hi all. Jumping in late from CA. 3rd grade teacher โค๏ธ
A1: Learning everyone's names stresses me out! 300+ kids are hard to get! I will do it, though!
So true. I love when they want to stay w/me after school to keep working or just hang.
absolutely! Keep those questions rolling!
Hi im late but im here to join im a student from CSMS and member
Saw a great quote/tweet the other day, "August is the Sunday of summer." Sums it up perfectly.
awesome! We r here to help :)
A2: Most fulfilled when learners take the lead, when they don't need me to find success.
Same here! The first day is nerve wracking!
A3: Teachers burn out when they lack purpose, belief, respect, and or support. Leaders can ignite these elements.
A2: When Ss make a connection to something that means something to them, or comes in the next day saying, "I was wondering"
A3 It's not an easy thing to do well even if your work hard. That can be very frustrating.
A2 The light form students. When they take over.
Finding your people, incredible feeling. Made all the difference last year.
A2: Teaching makes me most fulfilled when I get the light bulb moment. So worth it.
A3: Lack of support, being saddled w/the weight of the world, lack of resources.
A3: T burnout comes from isolation! Ts must connect to stay in the game...successfully.
A3: Teachers ultimately have very little control...unless they have administrators that free their reigns.
Hey Rachel! Good to see you!
Once had a S who had trble with math X. Invited him to teach the class. Showed up in a shirt & tie!
A3: becasue teaching right is hard. the act of teaching, with care and love, is hard. Ppl dont expect that and can't hang.
Heather from IN here. T burnout because they believe "go big or go home!"
hey Maryann how was your Monday?
A3:Teachers teach on. Anxieties and stressors are real but teaching through your "why?" hurdles those barriers.
I def know Ts and others that feel b-o- taking a break & finding peace, centering yourself is so important- not a bad thing
Well put. https://t.co/ozxQykdy2X
A3: Teachers burn out when they lack purpose, belief, respect, and or support. Leaders can ignite these elements.
My gifs not doing what I want- need a new i guess
Hi all! :te! Debbie from Colorado!
A3) don't know if teacher burn out is any higher, I just know that the audience to vent these frustrations is a lot larger
A3 Ts have to cont to remember their why...marry passion for Ss & learning with what we have to do https://t.co/SVF8dgxKpy
Thanks ๐ I love teaching. With GS, FNN, and church, I've had some experience. I'll be happy to be back to school
hey Megan we are on Q 3 jump in!
A3: My reasons: perfectionism. Wanting to be involved in everything. Perfectionism. Procrastination.
A3:simply put: we are teachers, mentors, coaches, therapists, counselors, and magicians. And that's just during 1st period.
And of course we missed you too! Away being so awesome! https://t.co/Ms7BWuw6Sq
Awwwww! This is too fantastic! :) Missed you all!!!
A3: lack of support system. Thankfully I think burn out is slowly on its way out, many satisfied Ts lately. IMO
A3: Teacher burnout is temporary. We're passionate about what we do & invest everything, but there's not always a return
I love throwing Ss a wrench by taking all the glue & tape. Having Ss construct a new way https://t.co/9s6XNkGG3z
A2: So many things. Getting them to do something they didn't think possible. Knowing that it is making them better people.
Ugh! Just ended summer job last week. I need an extra month. Let's call Sept. Sunday! https://t.co/5eeQekr68l
Saw a great quote/tweet the other day, "August is the Sunday of summer." Sums it up perfectly.
Thought I missed something! I studied so hard! ;0) https://t.co/oDTyrsFDOJ
Yeah, GIFs don't work too well on Tweetdeck.
A3 Haven't experienced that at all. I'm surrounded by teachers who are so driven & aware of their needs in life & learning
A3: Burn out is high when there's a lot of hard-work happening but not much appreciation for it
A3: I think it's worse if they don't realize they are burnt out... recognize and seek out help -we're only human Ts!
A3) 1 reason is the โred tapeโ and hoops Ts have to jump through
A3 Different take - possibly wrong placement, wrong grade. Teacher not matched to skill set. https://t.co/5ZxVpX75qZ
Interesting perpsective. https://t.co/oV07tc7Wjc
A3) don't know if teacher burn out is any higher, I just know that the audience to vent these frustrations is a lot larger
A3: burn out feeling is real, as my ss tell me but remembering why we teach is important
A3 Testing demands Poor match You have to have a heart for ALL kids.
A3: burnout gets anyone when we lose battles daily. Important to have a to support you when times get tough (180+days)
A3: Toxic culture, lack of support and motivation. Stakeholders need to have clarity with mission! https://t.co/ia8IiKjD6U
A3+1 My why/passion fuels me and keeps burnout at bay...continually want to be better..do more...push harder
Likewise! Hope you're having a great chat!
A3. When we get so caught up in all the hoops we have to jump through that we forget why we chose this profession.
A3: When teachers don't feel respected or like their voice is valued. When politics become more important than Ss.
A3: maybe because it's not about the teaching anymore. Mandates, legislators and lack of respect for the profession hurt.
A3: w/o support teachers are a match aflame. They need to be laid on a candle of PD, lessons, admin, etc to stay alight.
quote: do you need it perfect, or do you need it tuesday?
from your earlier reply let's blame some of the burnout on those curriculum maps, lol
A2: when Ss come back and tell me that they applied something I taught them in class. MORE >> https://t.co/ycM9PJrhn5
A3: from recent experience, seen new Ts leave when their loans are paid off. Love it or Leave it. ๐ https://t.co/zwuoUNylp9
Teacher burnout is about standardized testing and constantly feeling like you are under a microscope.
A3: Some Ts haven't found their own passion, pressure from everywhere, & admin support, $$$$. https://t.co/LJ63HtCZtO
No doubt. https://t.co/9BFuikT5Q1
from your earlier reply let's blame some of the burnout on those curriculum maps, lol
Its hard work! https://t.co/g1y3uMwLl1
A3:simply put: we are teachers, mentors, coaches, therapists, counselors, and magicians. And that's just during 1st period.
A3 lack of support and compensation to accomplish what students deserve
A3: It's a marathon not a sprint.
Lack of resources. Talked to a Tr who has 12 iPads for 3 primary grades! https://t.co/gmiWDVIVlA
A3: Lack of support, being saddled w/the weight of the world, lack of resources.
Boom! https://t.co/9kWomKAjrn
A3: Burn out is high when there's a lot of hard-work happening but not much appreciation for it
I keep missing the questions because is moving and shaking! Tweetdeck went down on me for a sec! LOL
A3: Some Ts just don't stay positive. Don't expect your Ss to learn from you if you don't try to learn from them.
A3: In Indiana, teaching has been overly political with inconsistent rules year-to-year.
Yes or when hard effort is wasted on foolish pursuits/mandates
Often like a marathon of sprints!
Oh, almost forgot: we are also our own IT support. https://t.co/twtRSW6Efj
A3:simply put: we are teachers, mentors, coaches, therapists, counselors, and magicians. And that's just during 1st period.
A3 Time... So little, so much to do. Having to implement things before you've planned how to make them work.
So true! https://t.co/stebRpzHGN
A3: I think it's worse if they don't realize they are burnt out... recognize and seek out help -we're only human Ts!
A3) Burnout = time & effort. But how's time being spent? Who's putting in effort? Ts teaching or Ss learning?
Or recognition! Everyone needs to know theyโre doing a good job, or encouragement to improve https://t.co/QgkEr347Aw
A3 lack of support and compensation to accomplish what students deserve
So important for admin to build positive culture where Ss, Ts, Ps feel appreciated. https://t.co/3HNixmMCzp
A3: Burn out is high when there's a lot of hard-work happening but not much appreciation for it
A1: That I'm not giving it my all. It's difficult to feel successful when you know you could have done more.
A3b...some just aren't in it for the right reasons
It honestly took me 6-7 years of teaching before I realized this. So much better!!! https://t.co/ZwXoVtkmzk
A3 Ts have to cont to remember their why...marry passion for Ss & learning with what we have to do https://t.co/SVF8dgxKpy
's protege (ex student) ladies and gentlemen ๐๐ https://t.co/ZwevFzk7kq
A3: Some Ts just don't stay positive. Don't expect your Ss to learn from you if you don't try to learn from them.
Totally get it. Mine is only and I already feel it.
A3: Not burnout so much as tired. Ts putting their all into it. Need to remember to step away at times and rejuvenate.
A3: bc teachings hard! But if you focus on building a support network at your school, they'll carry you through tough days
Had a friend teach for "summers off." He is a plumber now!
A3: burnout = no support & folks feeling isolated. Hence: Collaborate, share, communicate and celebrate with one another!
You speak the truth! Need to put kids at center of our prof. Time for a march for kids!
Is it plugged in? https://t.co/zgswBfn9uh
Oh, almost forgot: we are also our own IT support. https://t.co/twtRSW6Efj
A3:simply put: we are teachers, mentors, coaches, therapists, counselors, and magicians. And that's just during 1st period.
A3: and sometimes not being sure that implementation is really best for the Ss! https://t.co/OB0e2j6wY9
A3 Time... So little, so much to do. Having to implement things before you've planned how to make them work.
A3) I think it stems a lot from positive reinforcement, or more specifically lack thereof, as it matters for T's and S's
true. And if a computer can replace a teacher, it should.
there are questions? I thought we were just hanging out
A3: Tough ?, but the large amount of work w/little "return" or a T who is inflexible are 2 possible reasons for burnout.
A3 It's not easy and not always immediately rewarding. Good colleagues are key throughout. May make SM even more imp?
is the of chats... https://t.co/FoDCIYQrpy
I keep missing the questions because is moving and shaking! Tweetdeck went down on me for a sec! LOL
https://t.co/ERCzNu2HXs
A3: Not burnout so much as tired. Ts putting their all into it. Need to remember to step away at times and rejuvenate.
I find that I have trouble getting started on things because I'm so worried they're not going to turn out!
A3: If you Love to Teach & work to improve & learn new ways to Teach, burnout should not exist. https://t.co/NSzIyNUNpS
A3: Micro management of skills based drills instead of autonomy in innovation.
I'm 20yrs in and newbies are not getting the practical knowledge I had before beginning.
A3 I wish we had innovation days periodically to allow even more time to develop creative ideas during school hours.
my reboot is watching star trek and BSG
And even doing that, we are shaking it up!
Oops. I thought just started. A3: Ts are tired of being told that all of their hard work isn't enough.
Politicians weighing in on what's "best" despite not being an educator = frustrating. https://t.co/wAeeW0hH0P
A3: In Indiana, teaching has been overly political with inconsistent rules year-to-year.
Find your people. They'll normalize the insanity ๐๐ https://t.co/6qd3jHQDym
A3 It's not easy and not always immediately rewarding. Good colleagues are key throughout. May make SM even more imp?
did you jiggle the mouse?
A3: It's hard to have that emotional strength and ask for that emotional support. We are super people but we need help.
Amen! https://t.co/a8Hye7VixU
A3: Some Ts just don't stay positive. Don't expect your Ss to learn from you if you don't try to learn from them.
Teachers are not being supported, paid properly or given the proper tools to succeed w/ their Ss. https://t.co/o9mJlC48WQ
A3: What if, wen teachers begin to experience burnout, leaders encouraged them to begin 20% projects?
A3: I wish the media would stop reporting teacher turn-over statistics. This perpetuates the notice of teacher "burn out".
Absolutely cannot do this job alone! https://t.co/Q6ZR0ytlMX
A3: bc teachings hard! But if you focus on building a support network at your school, they'll carry you through tough days
Woot woot! I have been affirmed! Haha. It's true though. :)
I agree isolation- teaching alone in our rooms can make us less motivated to share https://t.co/pXdCmrIm1O
A3: burnout = no support & folks feeling isolated. Hence: Collaborate, share, communicate and celebrate with one another!
A3: What if, when teachers begin to experience burnout, leaders encouraged them to begin 20% projects?
Late to the party! Jennifer Umphenour from Atascadero, CA and just back from CA GAFE SUMMIT!!
especially in https://t.co/yIS71bePgy
A3: I wish the media would stop reporting teacher turn-over statistics. This perpetuates the notice of teacher "burn out".
A3- I love what is do, but today was hard, teachers can be mean and nasty, just no place for that
When a non-tech Teacher Googles โGoogleโ and breaks the Internet!
While it's easier to find people at school, the entire world certainly opens up your poss. connections
notion*. I also wish that twitter had an edit option. ๐
Exactly. We try to set examples for students. We have to start with ourselves. https://t.co/X9nd4gVvl7
A3: Not burnout so much as tired. Ts putting their all into it. Need to remember to step away at times and rejuvenate.
Yeah, but WHICH Star Trek???? Makes a big difference! ๐ https://t.co/9uX06yUDRC
my reboot is watching star trek and BSG
A4: I'm offended: "Twitter=treadmill."Twitter is an open road-Likes/retweets make me feel special but inspiration is better
Thank you! The four of us should start an encouraging teacher quote program ๐
also, the plethora of shows on TV that perpetuate the job as easy and the lot of us as slackers
A4: I don't care if someone likes/retweets what I post. They can find value in it (or not) without letting me know.
A3: as a new teacher it's hard to remember to take it one day at a time and not burnout
A lot of hats is right, and sometimes gloves too!
Yes. Negativity can be contagious as well. We need positive connections. https://t.co/tojkyQvJEl
A3: Some Ts just don't stay positive. Don't expect your Ss to learn from you if you don't try to learn from them.
A3: Not enough plan time. Too much on plate.Add more, nothing comes off. Need a smaller student to teacher ratio!.
A3 Maybe burnout comes from too many one way conversations (teacher to student via traditional teaching). More 2 ways..
A2: When I make meaningful connections with colleagues, students and the teaching community.
Helping teachers find their passion should be a goal of administration. https://t.co/afVNp8RTeA
A3: What if, when teachers begin to experience burnout, leaders encouraged them to begin 20% projects?
instead of the pressure to "be better" awesome idea!
A4: Success is measured not by the likes or retweets, but by theSs and Ts who's lives r better b/c you were teaching them
A4: sometimes a Like or RT is a changed life we haven't heard from yet.
A4: I think our success is determined by the connections we make and how we use tips and tricks learned in the classroom.
A4: It could, but plenty of PLN there to help if you reach out, and that's REAL.
A4: To teach students they are valued, build upon strengths. Strengths based approach rather than focusing on weaknesses...
Ha!! 4! Although the blank totally fits my girl bc she acts a different age every day! 15, 9, 88, all over.
A3: Unsupportive administration that is out to punish and micro-manage. Lucky not to have had that in a couple of years.
A4: twitter is not a between you and the world!
A4: Twitter connects me with the world; tchg isn't so isolated.Gain insight and ideas for transformation!
A4 Twitter is what you make of it. Follow the right people and learn. Forget the likes and retweets.
STELLAR! LOVE it!! Glad you're enjoying
Natalie from VA here. I've been lurking...thought I'd join the party....late, but I'm here.
A4: what's a like or RT in comparison of impacting students' lives. There's no comparison...impact trumps a RT or like.
I would love to see this happen! https://t.co/cL8WjKd6Ka
A3: What if, when teachers begin to experience burnout, leaders encouraged them to begin 20% projects?
A4: The sharing of ideas, inspiration, and insights never gets old to me. I also love the real world connections.
A4 Likes and retweets help me remember I'm not alone. There are Ts out there who are interested in similar topics!
A4) I like the higher order questioning here with the "explain" part!
I am new to Twitter but it can be addicting collaborating with Ts. Success comes from within. https://t.co/1PguJtAtGP
A4: Likes and retweets are encouragement but the learning behind those tweets is incredible!
Success is determined by Changed Lives because you teachers out there give kids like me the knowledge we need to succeed!
Teacher churning harder than students? Agreed: likely recipe for burnout.
Welcome, glad you said hi!
Where I work now, we clap for EVERYTHING! Feels good tho
A4 Changed lives! The connections, confidence, growth, ideas....contagious for Ss & Ts I support. https://t.co/4IPEdYIxeC
A4: I firmly believe likes and retweets have the potential to change lives.
"Liking" the Q doesn't get you out of answering it. Start thinking bub! :)
A4: Changed lives. I can get 100 RTs, but that tweet can't be there for my students and colleagues next week or all year ๐
A4 You have to prioritize twitter the same way you set up content. You can't do it all, all the time.
A4: It's determined by what we've learned from our experiences. Trials build a mountain that we have to hike over.
A4b: Twitter is the idea machine, my classroom is the workshop. It is a symbiotic relationship.
A4: My professional learning is almost solely through Twitter. It's a must have when in a unique position in a school.
A4 I see doors open using Twitter. This summer was a reflection summer and Twitter helped with that. My pln is now voxing
Have you ever Googled โdo a barrel rollโ?
A4: Just found the Ed twitterverse and I found it to be a great way to connect and learn!
Another former Ss of mine! Feeling proud tonite. https://t.co/Wz4tT274SE
Success is determined by Changed Lives because you teachers out there give kids like me the knowledge we need to succeed!
Q4: has def changed my life -finding and new types of oh and -> WooWoo
I agree if you base your Twitter exp on retweets & likes you are missing so much more https://t.co/L0V28aFwBs
A4: I don't care if someone likes/retweets what I post. They can find value in it (or not) without letting me know.
A4 If Twitter/other social media don't work for some, they shouldn't feel obligated to use it. There's other ways 2 connect
A4 "Success can be multiple, so (um) yes," he says, copping out but secretly rooting for changed lives.
A4: Twitter can definitely become an echo chamber. It's good to follow a new-to-you hashtag and hear a variety of voices.
Yes. I've learned so much from Twitter chats this summer. https://t.co/1hDwwutAlp
A4 Twitter is what you make of it. Follow the right people and learn. Forget the likes and retweets.
exactly! we can maximize our impact by sharing best practices
Q4: you have to be Choose you are about
I've had it. Recently. I got out. I agree that is the worst. https://t.co/jsXzZf79ur
A3: Unsupportive administration that is out to punish and micro-manage. Lucky not to have had that in a couple of years.
We realize we need educators outside our school. They help motivate & let us see we are not crazy just crazy about teaching
A4: I hope not, or I'm really unpopular! Social media is a way to share ideas & find new inspiration.
A4: the truth is these chats change my life as a teacher. So judge my likes and RTs as you will. https://t.co/8o7o9xRdEQ
A Thank you does go a long way! Good Point!
A4: Ideas are the best part of it.
it's changed my practice invaluably!
A4: Don't get that at all. Twitter is the best thing ever. It has revolutionized my teaching. Wouldn't function w/o it.
A4: Success is definitely det by changed lives. I have found, esp this summer, how enriching, connecting Twitter can be.
A4contd: I've had the absolute best year ever &I I know Twitterland is what helped make it happen. https://t.co/ftDFbORuXI
A4 (part 2): I was feeling very isolated as the only T in my school really into edtech. Twitter helped me find "my people."
You can always delete & redo the tweet
A2: When they take learning into their own hands.
A4: If my Twitter accts. - prsnl & prfssnl - were more about likes & RTs than learning/teaching, I'd have deleted them! lol
I like this!! Here is a brilliant connection! https://t.co/CJ13Fhg0nT
A4b: Twitter is the idea machine, my classroom is the workshop. It is a symbiotic relationship.
This is a perfect analogy and I'm stealing for my A4 ๐ https://t.co/69Drs4NIX3
A4b: Twitter is the idea machine, my classroom is the workshop. It is a symbiotic relationship.
A4:As a new member to twitter I am inspired, being pushed and learning from twitter!I had no idea that you all were out here
There are plenty of ways to these days! https://t.co/F0RixAnLWO
A4 If Twitter/other social media don't work for some, they shouldn't feel obligated to use it. There's other ways 2 connect
A4) As humans, we need to belong and to feel safe. Twitter gives educators a space to relax and reflect.
A4: It can be only a treadmill if you let it It's been a great place to share/bounce ideas a great for me
I just loved this tweet so much. Wow!
Tweet Peeps keep ideas & resources flowing. Helps avoid stagnation & gives me a platform to share! https://t.co/tYk9LSDYba
A4- new to Twitter but loving the resources I already used several in my classroom set up and lab ideas
Mark Henry , , , Jericho , , Titus , Cesaro
A4: Twitter has helped me not feel so isolated in my teaching. Make new connections, learn from others.
congrats for getting out!! Hope everything is much better now!!
thanks come joining us! See you tomorrow!
Ridiculous tweets AKA why the Internet was invented ๐๐ https://t.co/1eC34kacUG
I just loved this tweet so much. Wow!
Yes. We do all need a little encouragement now and then. It is very cliquey sometimes. https://t.co/8WadrBXYIs
A4: Likes and retweets are encouragement but the learning behind those tweets is incredible!
It's nice when you get likes and retweets, but you need to be able to walk away from Twitter with ideas that help your Ss.
and because we still want to use those tips and tricks or look/try out new ones.
Those people who say they are burned out may not have been on fire in the first place.
just please don't become a principal then
That is so true. It has helped me learn and push myself to try new things in my classroom.
You are a riot to be reckoned with. Ha!
A4 For me it is about the sharing of information
A4: You may never meet or speak to those you impact online...but know your words have meaning and value. Choose wisely!
A4: More seriously, Twitter gave me a voice when I didn't think I had one. Likes & RTs let me know that someone heard me.
Experience this push regularly from my Twitter feed. https://t.co/c7oWTtgjz1
That is so true. It has helped me learn and push myself to try new things in my classroom.
Totally agree. Now I'm frustrated that other teachers can't see the miracle that Twitter is.
Touchรฉ, Todd! https://t.co/ELA7XIb51e
Those people who say they are burned out may not have been on fire in the first place.
A4. Likes & RTs are nice, but I prefer the conversations, shared resources, friendships, & GIFs! https://t.co/mplzexEqov
see you bright and early!
Yes, Tribe Support & Connection!
I'm still very much learning and applying the benefits of Twitter and a PLN. I am but a novice.
I thought it was great, went along with my answer & teachers not accepting but pushing for more out of our students
A4- Success is determined if you can take what you learn from twitter and apply it directly to the growth of your Ss!
Agree! Me all the way! My voice is "louder" here. ๐
A4:Tw has been a life changer. Giving me support I didn't have.
A4 I think of Twitter as a highway & blogs, webinars, DM collabs as the rest stops. I want to spend time at destinations
A4: Twitter has been a great place to learn!
True! It does not happen overnight! Glad to have you!
A4: I say it's a 5K, it makes you run, walk, reflect, view, take in, breathe and develop endurance https://t.co/yCo3jIJg82
I see your point, but teaching is a difficult career for many. We need to support Ts who are feeling down.
A4- Likes & retweets help me know I am being read, but at the end of the day what matters are actions, not just tweets.
A4: Twitter even allowed me to "meet" new Ts before I moved 1/2 way across the country! Now they are friends.
I screenshot this. Thanks so much. It's true. https://t.co/bmiBK1SA4Q
Totally kills your spirit. This job, the kids, the parents can be enough stress. You don't need top down killing you too.
A4 RT's remind me of the head nod from a student - Not necessarily changing the world but someone gets the point.
A1: not having enough help for kids, requirements etc.
That's some tough truth right there. I don't think you can burn out while doing what you're made to do.
A4: New to the Twitter world, the ideas/connections I am coming across is fabulous! Excited to learn more tomorrow
Yep, and I love it! My people!
A5: If I meet you at a and we share a like why not have lunch?
A5: I adore meeting my PLN face-to-face; however, as an introvert I totally need my away time, too.
A4-2: Oh and I forgot, it makes you "stretch" yourself too.
A4 I wonder if it's the constant testing that's the drag. Testing isn't teaching. Progress monitoring isn't teaching.
You all are masters with the gifs. I need to up my Twitter game.
A5: I think it can, but that every person is unique too and that some might need/prefer more space in their personal lives
I forgot to order mine. Thanks for the reminder!
A4) Twitter is a great place to learn content in the moment U otherwise wait for with PD
very true! Todd Whitaker@in the house folks, What Great Principals Do Differently is a must read by him
A5: some of the coolest moments over the past couple yrs has been the face-to-face mtgs with my tweeps.
Opening up, going beyond the profession to your personal experiences, is most conducive for learning and change
A5: Life is better when we do it together Many great things were built as a team
A5 U can't do it alone, whatever P stands for. Make your network what works for u. Also connect to those who are different.
https://t.co/gxe9Gxc5R8
A4: Twitter even allowed me to "meet" new Ts before I moved 1/2 way across the country! Now they are friends.
A5: There is a time and place for face to face but the power is the learning that happens regardless if we ever meet!
A5. As we spend time together I think we become part of one another's lives, even if it's a small part. It's a good thing.
A3: It's hard to strike a balance when there is so much on our plate.
this is a great thought. Thanks, Todd!
A5: Can you really separate the 2? A PLN should help to relieve stress, be sources of inspiration & give hope in all areas.
A5 Some Ts I enjoy professionally are not necessarily Ts I would hang out with and vice versa. It just depends.
A5: absolutely! I think it helps make us all well rounded people both professionally and personally.
I am there with you. My first retweet made me realize I had a voice. Ts listen. https://t.co/VPZsSGU6L4
A4: More seriously, Twitter gave me a voice when I didn't think I had one. Likes & RTs let me know that someone heard me.
I tried to find a gif (any relevant gif!) a few minutes ago. No luck. You and me both.
A5: It makes perfect sense...like internet dating, getting people together in real life who would not otherwise have met.
A5: I have my virtual PLNs and a couple at school. It helps me grow and push myself as both a learner & teacher.
A5-yes i believe that my PLN should be both prof. & personal, it makes connections feel real & we are all in this together
A5: As long as you can "walk away" from it and have other non edu convos as well.
Agree. Principal knows more abt me b/c of Twitter. said:gives quiet teachers a voice https://t.co/7j196ZYoJK
A4: More seriously, Twitter gave me a voice when I didn't think I had one. Likes & RTs let me know that someone heard me.
A5 My gut says some Venn-like overlap is fine. If the circles eclipse each other, I'd fear burnout could follow.
Just dropped in all nonchalant. dropping truth bombs on https://t.co/MkqWUXspeM
Those people who say they are burned out may not have been on fire in the first place.
I need one of those! Awesome!
A5: I'm all for making my PLN more personal! Sometimes we just need coffee/tea and to put our feet up
Sorry to tweet and run so fast. Thx again for the chat! Have a great wk! (Ha - had to send him...) https://t.co/BdHGxHhcfo
A5: I want to say keep PLN professional-doesn't mean I won't be sharing photos of Chipper Bones! https://t.co/dFGGxjbzdf
A5: I've struggled with this after moving in to a coaching position. I do believe we need to work together.
A5) I feel like we need personal along with the professional, unlike the students perceptions we don't sleep in classroom
A couple of years ago it was TNG, now it is DS9, but I paused for of BSG
A5 PLN & personal life r like icecream, Just give it 2 me! Together, apart, just get in my belly! https://t.co/802zQBoq0v
Might not be the WHAT that burns teachers out; more often the HOW being prescribed? https://t.co/0tUdmlJC3l
That's some tough truth right there. I don't think you can burn out while doing what you're made to do.
Check out ! Its Fun And Collaborative!
A5: PLNs, and everything else in education, are personal. Relationships build compassion & empathy to strengthen bonds!
A5: A PLN is personal. It is relationships. W/o the relationship, there is no network, no connection, and no learning.
A5: Interest & ownership bring in the personal.
A5- It could be either. I keep mine professional, but it doesn't bother me if others don't.
A5: I like to keep my professional life and my personal life separate, w/a little overlap. My family comes 1st.
Professional@Learning Community, don't feel embarrassed!
A5 It is both for me. The longer you talk to your pln and the more you feel conencted to them
A5 Are relationships as important to PLNs as they are in the classroom? hmmm
A4: educhat on twitter is a new way to be exposed to other educators globally! The best PLN!
Yeah, pretty sure the gr8 just flew in like Batman to throw batarangs of truth https://t.co/jJQzwlV9gW
Just dropped in all nonchalant. dropping truth bombs on https://t.co/MkqWUXspeM
Those people who say they are burned out may not have been on fire in the first place.
A4: Ideas and inspiration keep us going!
A5As and I have learned, our personal and professional lives are one in the same. We do life (period)
so true ๐๐๐๐๐
That's true of using tech as well. It's wise to unplug!
Survey says DING! Yes ~ if we care about "whole teacher" - blogged about this. :) It's possible! https://t.co/b9yKUcuuw2
A5 Such distance btw Ts tho I agree gettin to know each other is best. Love what is doing with (HT?)
I think I would have to agree. https://t.co/dHRKAwrUfz
A5As and I have learned, our personal and professional lives are one in the same. We do life (period)
A5: It takes a village to raise a teacher. We walk together, but our journeys are our own.
A5: I really hope so cause if I can't do lunch with every once in a while, I may be the sack lunch in class T.
A4 RTs do stoke the ego a bit...but Twitter is what you make it. There is a right way to use it. https://t.co/K6vscfUL22
A5: sometimes keeping them together allows for more honest sharing to occur. and share your heart out!
A5 cont: some fellow Ts became friends that have helped my devlpmnt as a person, not just a T so personally I'm in favor
It certainly is easier to turn off the negativity ("Unfollow"). That's better than sharing lunch every day.
A5: A PLN is the family that you work with - they know your struggles! Share highs/lows, learn from them and grow together.
It will help develop trust which is, I think, essential to a cohesive PLN.
but for some Ts, that mash-up is more destructive than for others
Love this https://t.co/99cGVzriyn
A5: It takes a village to raise a teacher. We walk together, but our journeys are our own.
A5-2: Life is better when you don't have to DO it alone. :)
it really does take a village! https://t.co/FhHJGEoR5f
A5: It takes a village to raise a teacher. We walk together, but our journeys are our own.
Yes! The way to do this work is through relationships! If connections are missing, so much is lost! https://t.co/PjliZnfUJZ
A5: A PLN is personal. It is relationships. W/o the relationship, there is no network, no connection, and no learning.
Q6 What 1 thing will you do?
I couldn't agree more. Like minded conversation is so valuable. https://t.co/U7zaMLlQFX
A5. As we spend time together I think we become part of one another's lives, even if it's a small part. It's a good thing.
A5- why I love my job the students, the staff(making connections!), and trying to blow things up
A5.2 Might networks that cross-pollinate robustly outperform ones that solely in-breed? Strength in occasional divergence?
A5: As we are always educators in the public eye it is important to make that distinction and keep a personal network too.
Gotta run . Great chat. I look forward to connecting with my new follow/backs
A lack of wellness in one area effects the other. Proving even more that they are connected https://t.co/IZBh2daSA4
but for some Ts, that mash-up is more destructive than for others
A5: I consider Tw a separate PLN.
Just like the classroom. It shows you care which makes a big difference.
Amen! Never a kindle always a blaze. Make sure you fan the flames. https://t.co/fPoKJSgqXg
Those people who say they are burned out may not have been on fire in the first place.
tweeted so much this chat, he broke Twitter. Q6 in 1 min...
A5: As my PLN grew,I toned down the personal tweets. I don't post every time I go to a concert now. https://t.co/xQU3wsUA4H
thanks for coming, Daryl!
A5: absolutely! Don't we choose to form personal relationships with like minded and supportive people? ๐ my PLN.

The best leaders arenโt just those with something important to say. They are those who stir up passion and purpose in the hearts of others.
I hope that โclickโ sound wanโt you unfollowing me!
A6:Being specific about the encouragement I share with others in my virtual and physical PLN.
I love it!! BOOM https://t.co/pMkM7liIf1
A5As and I have learned, our personal and professional lives are one in the same. We do life (period)
I admit, I kind of geek out when I see someone from my at a tech conference. We are people who are professionals.
but also, my school doesn't compel me to conceal or erase parts of my id, like schools tend to do
A5- I do think we need to be able be professional when appropriate and represent our schools, county, and profession
A5 I think it should be on a professional, but I think it is ok to care about people you meet online keep the line in mind
Collaborating with Ts across the globe is going to change education Slowly but surely https://t.co/VERGjiLiU7
We realize we need educators outside our school. They help motivate & let us see we are not crazy just crazy about teaching
Thank you friends! Another great chat! Love connecting with you all! Grow those PLNs
<3 Love this!

The best leaders arenโt just those with something important to say. They are those who stir up passion and purpose in the hearts of others.
same! Its been so great this doing that this year!
A6: finding ways to encourage both my virtual PLN and those at my school.
A6 Everyone needs a cheerleader.
A6: A thriving professional network relies on consistent communication and honest feedback. Talk to each other.
A6: I never thought I had that kind of influence on y'all. I just thought y'all had that kind of influence on me.
A6- i try to encourage and share w/ those in my PLN! I will continue to be an encourager & share all the great ideas I find
True. The systems and culture surrounding these lives how tremendous impacts https://t.co/8COcmKTmIz
but also, my school doesn't compel me to conceal or erase parts of my id, like schools tend to do
A6: Why not commit yourselves to a random act of encouragement? Tweet someone something nice! Think I'll start doing this.
A6: Share the good things that I see. Continue to find ways to get good things to Ts and Ss. That's all we can do!
A6: being that support system to new Ts and returning Ts. Making new connections and learn something new from them.
Be here for more Great job . Gr8 convo to end day 1 of the new school year! https://t.co/BOUjANf5Y6
Q6 What 1 thing will you do?
A6 Post an resource or tip every week that I use with my 2nds. Sharing is caring!
