A1 NO. I think if it's been all you know, it's hard to unlearn it, but it can be done. I wish I had learned about #growthmindset as a kid. As an adult, I have to use it (but had to learn it too)! #dojochat
Okay, I see a trend π... Welcome Chapman University students joining us for #dojochat! We're honored you'd choose to join our little chat, and we're glad you're joining us to talk about an important topic #growthmindset π
A1: Of course not! as someone who used to be resistant to learning, its all about finding people and purposes that motivate you. It often takes a change in perspective. #dojochat
A1 No! I think in some cases it is harder to learn a #growthmindset, but that's why it is so important to teach it to young children! The earlier you learn it, the better. #dojochat
A1 I do not believe a fixed mindset is permanent. I think that you can always change to a growth mindset and there are ways to inspire others and be inspired to change your fixed mindset. #dojochat
A1: A fixed mindset is definitely not permanent! We often have elements of both in different skills. Deck writes we can change mindsets, the 1st step is learning about them. #dojochat
A1: That would be a very fixed mindset POV to have (in other words it's not, you can train your brain to grow) (internet is working again now!!!) #dojochat
A1 No! I think in some cases it is harder to learn a #growthmindset, but that's why it is so important to teach it to young children! The earlier you learn it, the better. #dojochat
A #growthmindset can be SO empowering! Students who were once frozen, are free to make mistakes and MAKE PROGRESS! It's okay not to know, it's not okay not to try. β€οΈ #dojochat
A1 I do not believe a fixed mindset is permanent. I think that you can always change to a growth mindset and there are ways to inspire others and be inspired to change your fixed mindset. #dojochat
A1: People can learn 2 have a #growthmindset. Just like learning to be #positive or learning 2 be a better #leader. Plus, thinking that a fixedmindset is permanent is the same as having a fixedmindset, right? #dojochat
A1: A fixed mindset is definitely not permanent! We may have elements of both in different skills. Dweck writes we can change mindsets, the 1st step is learning about them. #dojochat
A2: Kids can often be pigeon holed into specific areas. Developing a growth mindset gives kids the opportunity to reach outside of their comfort zone and try new things. Often times they find something new that they enjoy! #dojochat
A2 they go from thinking they are "dumb" to thinking "my brain is a muscle, I can do anything if I keep practicing" they are free to learn and grow and become their best selves. #dojochat
A2: How DON'T Ss benefit from #growthmindset ? Ss will be relaxed, better behaved, motivated, problem solvers, critical thinkers, and open to ideas & feedback. #dojochat
I love goal setting with my students! They pick something that they do not know YET or want to master. They talk about how they can reach their goal. It involves a lot of positive thinking and talking! #dojochat
A2: Students benefit from a growth mindset because it teaches them that mistakes are OK and to not get discouraged if you can't do something right away. My SPED kiddos love to say, "I can't read" I always tell them that they need to learn how before they say they can't #dojochat
A2 So many benefits of going from a fixed to a growth mindset. Students will learn to persevere and not give up. They will have a more positive outlook and be able to solve problems more independently. #dojochat@ms_oneillGP204
A2 I think that when a student goes from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset they learn when they try hard they can succeed This benefits them because when they come to something else they don't know & feel a fixed mindset they will know that they can do it if they try #dojochat
A2: Students benefit from moving to a growth mindset because they become more open to challenges and trying new things. They don't feel so down when they don't succeed right away, and are more eager to try again! #dojochat
I had one student read a whole book to me, then he turned around and had to read cloze sentences and the first thing out of his mouth was "I can't read" I said "you just read that whole book, don't tell me you can't read!" #dojochat
A3 I think that teachers should always encourage their students to try to challenge themselves within their ZPD. When a teacher believes in their students, they encourage a growth mindset. #dojochat
We've seen some teachers take a large portion of their wall and fill it with a large "YET" to remind students to never say "I can't ___" but to add the "yet" at the end. EMPOWERING β€οΈ #dojochat
A3: I like to make them think about themselves as babies and we make an anchor chart of the things they have learned to do since they were babies. Then we talk about the things we haven't learned to do yet. It really makes them think. #dojochat
A3: First and foremost positivity. But it's also about giving students the freedom to try new things and grow on their own! A real growth mindset has to grow naturally and giving students the ability to try out everything allows them to learn #dojochat
A3: When we want to develop a #growthmindset 4 our Ss, it's so much about the vocabulary we use & maybe even more so the words & phrases we choose not to use #dojochat
A3 Also love sharing the #growthmindset videos on Class Story so the students can watch them at home with their parents. Some of the parents even start using this vocabulary πΒ #dojochat
Q4: Drew pics/wrote of things we can't do....yet.... in the beginning of the year. Will review after the new year to see if they can do it now. :) #dojochat
A4 https://t.co/qaQ9Yzm4kS Fun fact... I wrote the discussion guides for that series when I was still teaching (fourth grade) before I started living the dream with ClassDojo β€οΈ #dojochat
Thatβs the value of βyet.β All of us began not being able to do anything. Weβre born with a growth mindset. We didnβt think, βEh, I canβt walk, whatβs the use?β #dojochat
A2: Students benefit from a growth mindset because it teaches them that mistakes are OK and to not get discouraged if you can't do something right away. My SPED kiddos love to say, "I can't read" I always tell them that they need to learn how before they say they can't #dojochat
A4 We watch them multiple times throughout the year, answer questions, post to Class Story and mostly importantly apply this knowledge to our every day lives! #dojochat
A4: While I don't have a class (yet :) ), These videos would be awesome to show students to encourage them! I loved the one about the beast especially, what a great way to help students who fear public speaking. #dojochat

A4: True life I dropped glass ALL over the floor...of course Ss were gathering dangerously close to the glass so I quickly turned on #mojo & instant silence and refocus while I cleaned! π€£#dojochat
Q5 a favorite might be the reflection triangles, just because building a tetrahedron is AWESOME! How do you use the activities with your students? #dojochat
A4 I am not yet a teacher, I am still studying, however, I like the idea that students can make goals at the beginning of the year and write them down and then see when they reach them. This is great because it shows them that they reached their goals. #dojochat
A5: I used the thankful activities last year after thanksgiving. They were a little high for my SPED kiddos but I was able to scaffold it for them. #dojochat

A5 I would hold weekly class meetings where we would discuss a topic, follow that up the next week with the video that goes with and discussions, THEN the next week an activity to put it into practice. SEL class meetings that REALLY impacted students β€οΈ #dojochat
A5 I think these activities are all great! The activities show that all students go through a time where they feel they can't do something and the idea that they will not feel alone in this is great! #dojochat
A5 I especially like the activity on Big Ideas about making mistakes. It teaches us that mistakes are okay and everyone makes them. They are our way of learning! #dojochat

A5 the one with the mystery structure is AWESOME too! Even a great one to do with staff, to illustrate the power of words and #perseverance π #dojochat

A6 it's SO important to bring the idea of a #growthmindset home. This might be a new concept for parents, and it's wonderful to know that it's not that Timmy can't deconstruct numbers to 20, that he can't do it YET #EMPOWERING π #dojochat
A6: we're still working on it...some Ss get it, others still need reminders. It's hard in an age where everything is instantaneous #dojochat#workhardplayhard#GrowthMindset
A6: I remember the teacher that most impacted my own growth mindset, he never let students get away with "I don't know" but instead encouraged them to try and give an answer so that they could feel like they were contributing! #dojochat
A6 I think that the power of yet would help students feel that they will learn how to do something soon and will help families to know how to encourage the student. #dojochat
We happen. We get tired of answering 432468643 questions a day that start with why. We sit them in rows for hours a day. We happen. We need to get out of their way. #dojochat
A7 I am a HUGE believer that whatever is taught in school, should be reinforced at home. We're a team, so if we both model and teach a #growthmindset, the student will GET it that much better! So how... 1/2 #dojochat
A7 Send home the discussion guides that go with the https://t.co/qaQ9Yzm4kS series so students can talk about it with families, send home inspiration on Class Story to encourage #growthmindset, make sure families get it as much as their kiddos do! #dojochat 2/2
A6: I think the power of yet can change the attitudes of Ss and their families because failure is no longer viewed as a sad ending, but rather an opportunity to improve #dojochat
A7 I think this is so important because when parents know that we focus on yet, they will feel encouraged to believe in their student and work with them on their goals #dojochat
A7: This is one of my biggest concerns going into education :/ I'm still worried about how i can work with parents and families about reinforcing education in the home too, especially the encouragement to keep doing their best. Any suggestions? #dojochat

A7: The power of yet should be brought home and be applied to extracurricular activities or sports, further encouraging students to persevere despite any "failures" they experience outside of the classroom. Although HOW to bring the ideas home may be difficult #dojochat
This has been such an amazing #dojochat, we don't want it to end! π₯ Let's make the most of Q8... what is everyone doing in their classrooms TOMORROW!? π€
Invite parents INTO your classroom! Share ideas they can do at home, do make-and-take games, invite them in for a snack, anything! Engage parents in learning just as much as your students! #dojochat

A8 Model mistakes, share something to Class Story to get the #PowerOfYet home, reframe students thinking with the right vocabulary... who wants me in their classroom!? I'm SO motivated to teach now, let me at 'em!!! π #dojochat
A8: Show the Dojo videos to a teacher friend, Sign up for the @biglifejournal email newsletter for great resources and ideas, and use the word yet A LOT!!! #dojochat
Invite parents INTO your classroom! Share ideas they can do at home, do make-and-take games, invite them in for a snack, anything! Engage parents in learning just as much as your students! #dojochat
A8: Be open and encouraging! The best thing a teacher can be is accessible to their students and their families. Never let a student say that they aren't good enough or that something isn't worth their time, but instead push them to do better! #dojochat
A8 I think there are so many ways we can promote growth mindset and the power of yet I will try to encourage my friends to try hard in school and tell them that they'll be successful even if they make mistakes they'll learn from them positive attitudes are important #dojochat
Invite parents INTO your classroom! Share ideas they can do at home, do make-and-take games, invite them in for a snack, anything! Engage parents in learning just as much as your students! #dojochat
A8: I believe it is important to be enthusiastic and willing to listen to students! Positivity is easily spread, and praising the great things that students do, no matter how small or big, will encourage and motivate students to achieve more and more of their goals #dojochat
A8: Cross-Curriculum integration of historical figures and examples of early setbacks and accomplishing greatness or significance in changing society #dojochat
Wow, thank you @ms_oneillGP204 π Can you believe it was her first time hosting #dojochat!? We're feeling inspired, and lucky to get to chat with so many amazing educators β€οΈ Until next time... π
