A1: The more success our school team has, the more willing they will be to take risks & try new things. We ALL win when a team member wins! #MEMSPAchat
A1 everyone shows up and works hard. A lot of that hard work can’t be seen or can go unnoticed, so when we celebrate the moments that truly show a success, it is deeply meaningful to those who know the whole story #MEMSPAchat
A1- in today’s educational climate, celebrating positives is imperative in order to keep your building moving in the right direction. Every little bit helps! #MEMSPAchat
Celebrating successes of others is important to the culture of any school! Not only does it provide well deserved praise but encourages others to do great things!#MEMSPAchat
A1) We celebrate along the way to keep us going, to motivate, to reflect on success, to encourage out of the box. Celebration is the fuel we need to keep the fire burning! #MEMSPAchat
A1: Celebrating the success of others in our schools supports a positive culture, teamwork, and motivates everyone to feel safe taking risks. #MEMSPAchat
A1) we have to cheer each other on, so we can focus on positive energy generating through our school. It is more fun to get excited about others rather Just feel competitive. #MEMSPAchat
A1: Celebeating the success of others is a key aspect to developing self-efficacy. Knowing someone like me can achieve great things helps me believe I can. Oh, yeah...and the other person feels a sense of belonging as well! #MEMSPAchat
A2) Good question. We actually don’t give student awards at the end of the year. Isn’t it better to give awards all year long? We need to recognize students at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. #MEMSPAchat
A2: End of the year awards are great based on accomplishment and achievement but recognition of growth and progress is more important when students are in the “learning pit” during those tough days during the year when the end is not in sight. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Last year we added a Super 3 Award. Students have earned 3.0 or above and participated in three or more sports/clubs. An amazing group of students. #Determined#MEMSPAchat
A2: we reward students throughout the year for behavior...model positive behavior and show leadership and improvement are all characteristics. We also do quarterly for attendance. #MEMSPAchat
A1: There are already enough people trying to sell the false narrative that Michigan’s public schools are failures. We must celebrate our successes and build on our strengths with the communities we serve. #MEMSPAchat
A2-being my first year here, I'm not sure. As a teacher it was always a variety; academic, character, behavior, athletic, a variety! I think it's important to have a variety of categories. Many ways for Ss to succeed. #MEMSPAchat
A2) We had a Principal's Award that was a memorial to a former student, the family in 1972 formed criteria. That criteria made it through 9 admins in my former building. 1 boy, 1 girl, the wall in the school represents the history. It was for the average Joe! :)#MEMSPAchat
#memspachat A2;Thanks to strong leadership from our principal @OtterbacherM, we are moving away from "8th grade awards" and starting with 'projects' that tell about the student
A3) We have a PRIDE party for those that finished the 4th quarter with 0 detentions, suspensions, or referrals. 7/8 have more individual awards to celebrate students. #MEMSPAchat
A3: Each grade level team holds an awards assembly during the school day. Parents receive a formal invitation. We found we have better parent and student attendance. #MEMSPAchat
A3-We do school-wide assemblies to acknowledge positive behavior each month. Ts do their own personal "awards" in their classrooms at the end of the year (I think). Does anyone do a school-wide "awards" at the end of the year? #MEMSPAchat
7 Habits program has set the stage for acknowledging student accomplishments and growth. We highlight students throughout but have used our 5th graders to really provide leadership to younger students and promote habits through video projects at the end of the year. #MEMSPAchat
A4) . At the end of the year, we had a celebration out on the lawn of the school, where students, parents and teachers came together to celebrate. We clap our kids in at the beginning and clap them out at the end. #MEMSPAchat
Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat
A1: First year at the school, so thinking/finalizing of what we can do. I’m thinking of how to use our PBIS program expectations to recognize kids. #MEMSPAchat
Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat
A4: I shy away from "Teacher of the Month" awards. I feel they create competition/division. I try to celebrate teachers at meetings, through my parent blog, & in person. #MEMSPAchat
Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat

Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat

A4) . At the end of the year, we had a celebration out on the lawn of the school, where students, parents and teachers came together to celebrate. We clap our kids in at the beginning and clap them out at the end. #MEMSPAchat

A4: I don't know that I would do "Teacher of the ___" awards.
I do think all leaders value putting students first, upholding the mission/vision of the school, being a lifelong learner, and being innovative. These traits are celebrated throughout the year. #MEMSPAchat
Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat
A4) Tough question! So many talented teachers in our district. Who is that teacher that is guiding students and their peers to live up to their fullest potential? #MEMSPAchat
Q4: What criteria would you (or do you) use as a school leader if you were to nominate a teacher for any kind of “Teacher of the Month/Year” Award? #MEMSPAchat
A4: a staff member who is positive, collaborates with their colleagues, takes risks, thinks outside of the box, and takes ownership of every child in the building! #MEMSPAchat
A4: Someone that goes above and beyond each day for kids. I don’t have a criteria, but the teacher would be someone that supports everyone in the building, students and staff. #MEMSPAchat
A4: IMO we should NEVER give this type of award. No one is successful on his or her own. We all stand on the shoulders of others. Those awards don’t build teams they build & entrain independent contractor mentality. No one is successful if we are not all successful!! #MEMSPAchat
#memspachat A4: I also did a spotlight on each staff member in my weekly parent newsletter. While this wasn't an award, it did bring recognition to each staff member.
A5: Last year I took a couple hours during teacher appreciation week and wrote a personal note to each teacher with reasons why they make our school amazing. #MEMSPAchat

A5: Throughout this year I've fed them, offered gift card drawings and written notes. But I'm looking to my PLN here for the end of the year!!! What are some ways to celebrate at the end of the year? I'm all ears #MEMSPAchat
A4: During monthly student PBIS award assembly, we also draw names of staff who have been nominated by fellow staff members and give small gift cards to them. It’s opportunity for staff to honor PBIS winners AND students to honor the staff who make it all possible!#MEMSPAchat
Craig McCalla, from Dexter, checking in late.
A5: I give them notes and we celebrate positive things as a group. I also bring food and they love cooler week! #MEMSPAchat
This is an area I would like to do more for...we have started the idea of a “Bravo Board” to recognize great things teachers do and acknowledge building successes at the end of the year but I know there is more to be done. #MEMSPAchat
#memspachat A5: During lunch, I worked with lunch supers to have students write notes of gratitude. These were then posted in the staff lounge for all to see.
A5: I need some more ideas for this! I plan to give a handwritten note to each staff member thanking them for their dedication and contributions throughout the year.
Loving some of the ideas I'm getting from my PLN tonight!
#MEMSPAchat
A6: I use my parent blog to recognize parent volunteers (PTA board, service organizations, community members). Great way to say Thank You & reach a large audience. #MEMSPAchat
A6: I host a volunteer breakfast. I give them all a little gift and I have a gratitude talk. We also have a large end of year event so everyone can come out and celebrate together. #MEMSPAchat
A6) . We had a Volunteer BBQ Potluck that the staff brought the sides and I flipped the dogs, we kept a list from the begin of yr and did handwritten invites, list grew each yr as well as the BBQ! Did this at begin of May so not to compete with yr end events #MEMSPAchat
#memspachat A6: I continued the tradition of inviting all who felt they helped, we gave them breakfast, Ss sang to them, then the whole school lined up and clapped them out.
A5: Love staff to staff recognition. Spending time recognizing each other. We have used a fake Grammy award that gets passed around every week. Awesome to hear what they value and recognize in one another. #MEMSPAchat

A7) . RELATIONSHIP with local reporter and photographer, included them on my weekly memo in case they wanted to stop by. Open door created a spot almost weekly on the front page above the fold. :) They needed a space filler, they showed up! We need to tell our story! #MEMSPAchat
A7: In the past, I shared out these success in our Parent Group meetings and in our newsletters. Since January, I also do a whole school phone message once a week. The families love it! I will be talking about accomplishments during those phone calls as well. #MEMSPAchat

A8: You knew this was coming....
We #CelebrateMonday each week at our school!! The first day back to our amazing school & a chance to do great things! #MEMSPAchat
A8: All the small things!! A lost tooth. A new pet. Picking up trash. A new addition to a staff members family. I know the big things are fun to celebrate but celebrating the small things go a long way! #MEMSPAchat
A8: Don't forget to celebrate the small things. Some days even the tiniest success needs to be celebrated to make a difference in the lives of our students or a staff member. Don't let those small moments pass by without recognition! #MEMSPAchat#lmcohort9
Parents are invited the last Monday of the month when we honor our Students of the Month. But we share out pics each week on FB and Twitter:) #MEMSPAchat
A8) . Unsung heroes! Highlight your support staff with a surprise assembly that lifts your paras, secretary custodians lunchroom heroes bus drivers kids are on it, keep the secret, great celebration in Jan/Feb/Mar where a good secret can keep the fire going! #MEMSPAchat
A8: Veterans! Our students host a two hour event each year that has grown so large we had to move it to the A-Plex with over 1,200 people in attendance. Heart warming seeing little ones singing and giving gifts to WWII vets through now... #MEMSPAchat
A8: We recognize grade level students of the month with some cool recognition for them. Our Tiger Clinic also has been celebrating Random Acts of Kindness last month, this was a huge success! #MEMSPAchat
A8: I love celebrating students individually when a teacher sends them to me to share a book, work of art, or a beautiful piece of writing. #memspachat
