I love spending snow days with some slippers and a blanket reading a novel. It’s normally hard to find time for pleasure reading, so it’s a welcome bonus when it snows! #bfc530
#bfc530 On a #snowday, I spend a lot of time cleaning the house, #reading, #writing, and catching up on emails. Those are the things that I run out of time for on a regular day.
This year, we are supposed to have eLearning for snow days. My first assignment will be... Show me a picture illustrating circumference, radius, and diameter using snowballs or a snowman that you made. #bfc530
Happy Friday! Strange that this is Friday because it doesn't feel like a Friday ... only second day with kids so it feels like a Tuesday, but I will take an early weekend.?. #bfc530
I also used the snow day to get together resources for my next unit, finish up the athletic budget, and eating cookies my wife & daughters made. #bfc530
It funny that Nth America is having massive snow storms and Australia is about to experience a massive heatwave. Just seems so strange that we are complete opposites. :) Stay safe and warm. #bfc530
Project based work set up and sent home in advance (sometimes at the start of the year) for students to complete in the event of cancellations. #bfc530
Having a bag to take home with tasks to complete. We may have to do something like this, as 40% of our families don't have internet at home (rural) and their cell service is spotty at best. Kids will have 48 hours to complete assignment upon returning to school. #bfc530
I remember snow days from my childhood ... time playing in the snow ... shoveling snow. The ancient days before schools felt the need (pressure) to ensure they forced kids to work at home even when schools were closed just because they have the tech available to do so. #bfc530
I understand the controversy. If there's a lot of snow days, the at-home learning idea makes sense. But if there are only a few I think kids should get to relax and play!...Ts too! #bfc530
Unions have concerns about things this being mandated and expanded upon, families have concerns about guiding work on top of their demands. All to please instructional time regs. #bfc530
As teachers, I get the desire to want to see the kids learning all the time, but can't we just let them be kids.
Do we need to make every life experience a documented learning task? #bfc530
Yes, but it ceases to become play when we require students to draw diagrams, document each slide, graph the results, prepare a reflection, then present ... can't they just come in and say "Sliding was wicked fun!" #bfc530
More advanced Ss could be challenged to build a snowman with parts ascending or defending by 1/3 and provide mathematical evidence along with their pic @MrTravisDrake. #bfc530

Hope you folks who had a snow day enjoyed and refreshed. First week almost in the books for us- tough, busy but very fulfilling!
#bfc530 enjoy your students today!
I think my IG best 9 pretty accurately shows how I like to spend my days off;
- Horse-back riding
- camping
- getting outside
(Only 1 school photo there ... at top when Malala visited)

Never had a snow day with my current board; Ts expected to get to work if they can, even if buses cancelled.
Closest thing was a postponed exam day due to icy walking & driving conditions. And I was already at work when they pushed it back :)

Slept in (because of a snow day) spent yesterday assembling online resources (@quizizz) which requires large blocks of time- something almost unheard of while at school #bfc530
As we begin ‘anew’ with our great students, special thanks to @woodard_julie for reminding us about what educators are working to support and inspire in our kids. Thank you for making your job a vocation, edu friends!
