#gfedchat A1 Greg LaDouceur, century PE,. Have not used any yet but as a PE group we have talked about using iPads for testing and the use of other apps.
A1: Lori Heydt, Century, Reading Specialist. I loved to use @Seesaw in the classroom to showcase learning. We would add lots of @DoInkTweets and @ChatterPixIt. #gfedchat
A1: Britta Hanson, Elem. Tech Partner, my favorite right now is Seesaw, Ss that normally don't speak up in class, are able to share their voices with classmates in a safe environment, not to mention all the family connections #gfedchat
A1: Melissa Korslien, Valley Business Ed. I honestly can't live without Google Classroom and that makes me sound so basic but for reals! It's the easiest way to reach my students, monitor their progress, and give feedback. #gfedchat
A1-8th Gr. Special Ed. Teacher at South. As a parent, I am loving seeing what my son is doing in school with Seesaw. As a teacher, google read write and screencastify have been great! #gfedchat
A1: Matt Solberg. Tech and Engineering-South Middle School. Don't have a lot of experience using apps in class, hoping to pick up some tips tonight. #gfedchat
Q2 Why do you think it is important to give Ss an opportunity to make their thinking visible, have voice, and share their work? #gfedchat HT @HollyClarkEdu & @TanyaAvrith
A1: Nicki Lee, English teacher at GFC. Google Expeditions! I haven't officially used GooseChase yet, but I like that one. I also like Flipgrid. #gfedchat
A2: Ss need to have a way to share their voice, because not all Ss feel confident/comfortable raising their hand and sharing in front of the class. Many times it gives the ability to see deeper thinking #gfedchat
A2: I think they learn to think critically when they can watch themselves and analyze what they said and if it made sense. Get feedback from others. #gfedchat
A2: Students who maybe don't speak up in front of the class get their voices heard. Some are able to express themselves better through video or digital means rather then writing #gfedchat
A2: I think this is the world they live in; we can help to teach them how to be digitally responsible & how to begin to create a digital portfolio/footprint. #gfedchat
Krista Cebula, 2nd at Kelly, prodigy 4 math, I assign different skills. Use it for report cards, kids love it too, also seesaw to create and share w/classmates, parents, relatives, friends #gfedchat
A1: Lori Heydt, Century, Reading Specialist. I loved to use @Seesaw in the classroom to showcase learning. We would add lots of @DoInkTweets and @ChatterPixIt. #gfedchat
A2: Having an authentic audience helps students raise their game. Making their thinking visible holds them accountable, giving them a voice empowers them, and sharing their work reinforces their learning.
#gfedchat
A2: If students can show and talk about their learning they gain deeper understanding. Teaching and showing others is the best way to learn and master anything. #gfedchat
A2: Ss gain a lot through sharing their thoughts with each other: from learning about others' opinion on the topic to building on their self-esteem. #gfedchat
A2-Ss put forth more effort when they are sharing their product with someone besides the T. Being able to share their work is a life long communication and collaboration skill. #gfedchat
A2: it gives everyone a chance to share their thoughts, everyone learns in a different way, a way for those who might not otherwise answer a question to have a chance #gfedchat
A2: Ss need a way to share their voice. Not all Ss feel comfortable sharing in front of the class. It allows the Ss to show what they know, allowing different learning strategies to come out. #gfedchat
A2 Students learn more by having to present their thinking. I love using SeeSaw for assessment. I not only get to see their work but hear their thinking. I learn so much more about them as a learner. #gfedchat
It's important to give students a chance to use their voice and make their thinking visible because it makes them feel like a valued learner. Visible thinking also allows for greater understanding. #gfedchat
#gfedchat A2: It is so important for Ss to have a voice especially as we work on speaking skills to explain and describe their work, but also so they can advocate for themselves.
A2 when s has ownership over their projects theyāre more likely to be excited about it. Itās also important that they can analyze their work #gfedchat
A2 Creativity inspires more creativity! Plus, sometimes when ss see each other making neat things it inspires them to be creative too and shows them they can do it as well! #gfedchat
A2: I feel it gives them a chance to show their creativity! They learn how to use speaking skills and it causes for a good discussion on what works well and what doesn't. #gfedchat
A2: They say you learn more when you share and teach a subject. And allowing Ss to make their thinking visible could give a new perspective or way of teaching #gfedchat
We used padlet last year to create chapter summaries with pictures of a book we read together in an intervention class. It helped us review before beginning a new chapter & helped the Ss that missed a day here or there. #gfedchat
We are using @flipgrid to create summaries and progressive stories. It's quick and easy student voice with short video. I'd be happy to show you. #gfedchat
Thank you Monte!! I just discovered it last week. It is user friendly and I enjoyed using it :) I guess I spelled it wrong it's Pixlr without the "e" #gfedchat
A3 - I didn't think I had ever used Padlet before, but turns out I did, two years ago during a Read Aloud. I had them respond to various questions as I read the book Wonder. I remember this was SO COOL. Why haven't I done it again?!??!!!! #gfedchat
A3: We used it during GRA last year to reflect with another class and this year I used it as an easy way to share all of the students biomimicry products https://t.co/bqtZjbYLLy#gfedchat
A3: We used @padlet in first grade to show "ways to show a number"...so the number would go in the middle and then different representations of the number would be connected to it #gfedchat
A3: We used Padlet when we were working on PBL project in class. Ss posted comments, questions, ideas and then responded to each other. Ss and groups could collaborate and continue to work while supporting each other. #gfedchat
A3: I think it might possibly work as a way for my students to showcase their CO2 car designs. It would be great if I had the ability to show future quarter classes when they are doing their brainstorming time. Will have to look into it. #gfedchat
A3: We have used it with my Ss to share, evaluate, and give "awards" to each other for the best response on the topic, as well as to discuss the book we read. #gfedchat
A3: Last year I used Padlet to let students write thank you notes to a real French woman who teaches in Miami and was willing to Skype with us! She loved it! I love the idea of posting a question of the day once a week to get them thinking at the start of class! #gfedchat
A3: My initial thoughts were book recommendations and exit tickets too! Also, just a reminder that there are online PRISM classes you can take that must be completed by mid April. I have a Padlet class that walks you through setting up an account & using it with Ss. #gfedchat
I have a question about Padlet. (I know, I'm supposed to be ANSWERING QUESTIONS not asking them. Sorry!) Can you SAVE their responses? Or is the only way to record their responses by doing a screenshot? #gfedchat
If you have not used Flipgrid, here is your chance to learn together Go to https://t.co/CHpQdFkBnY - Click on Educator Login and Login with Google (Blue Button)
Check out this quick tutorial https://t.co/gYNJVPQWHE#gfedchat
A3-exit slips, learning new vocabulary (synonyms, pictures, etc.), sharing learning over the year as a portfolio, complimenting students or thanking people would be really cool, so many ideas. #gfedchat
A3: We will also be starting opinion writing, so we could use padlet to pose a question and Ss can respond with their opinion and reasons to get started #gfedchat
A3: I have used @padlet a few times in class. My tip is to have expectations of the students using it before they post. I have had some spam it with craziness. You can make it so you have to approve the posts but it gets a little bogged down. Still worth using it. #gfedchat
A3: With flipgrid, I didn't want to buy the paid version, so I have to delete and recreate a new board each time...I wish I could keep them, but don't want to throw down the $$ #gfedchat
Found a resource for goal setting on Flipgrid...Students create a Flipgrid video stating their goals, strategies to achieve them, specific time frame for their completion, and perhaps what resources (help from peers/teachers/mentors, materials, support) may be needed.
#gfedchat
A4 - Flipgrid could be a powerful way for Ss to share their learning in so many subject areas. Many Ss hate to write, but with FlipGrid, they can use their voice. #gfedchat
A4: @flipgrid is a valuable tool any time you want your students to reflect on a question, topic, project, show their learning, comment on others work. #gfedchat
A4: Maybe you could use it in a class meeting type of setting (like, "we have this problem to solve...classroom supplies are not being put back where they need to be" - or something like that) and Ss could post suggestions/ideas/solutions? #gfedchat
A4: I could see them making a video response describing the color of their clothing or telling about their family...en espaƱol por favor š#gfedchat
A4: I feel like I don't get to check in with students frequently enough on their independent reading. I could have them use Flipgrid to record their reflections and even give feedback or add to the conversation with them #gfedchat
Progressive story telling or reflection on a chapter from a book. Could also give a summary of what you learned in Social Studies or in Science Lab... endless possibilities. https://t.co/26KIIGyswh#gfedchat
A4: Iāve used it as a back to school icebreaker-sharing about summer break, thoughts for honoring Martin Luther King Jr., If I were president thoughts, sharing about winter break-the students love to record themselves + the stickers #gfedchat
A4-I'm always trying to brainstorm ways to help Ss feel more comfortable sharing for an IEP. I could see them using flipgrid to record what they want to say in advance.I also like the idea of introductions at the beginning of the year or if new Ss join the classroom. #gfedchat
A4: Ss love Flipgrid & hearing other Ss responses. Most would rather talk about something than write about it. (Writing takes some longer 2 get their thoughts out.) Flipgrid can b used 4 many things, like book recommendations, exit slips, reflections on specific learning #gfedchat
One teachers idea would be to have P1 Ss do their video on Monday, P2 on Tuesday, etc so you are not so overwhelmed with 120 video all at once #gfedchat
Q5 As you reflect back to your first answer, is your favorite digital tool for Ss making thinking Visible for them or amplifying their voice? Explain #gfedchat
A4: I'd love to use FlipGrid as an exit ticket for Ss. I'd have to be intentional to set the ss up for success by not letting them say something else that has been said before #gfedchat
A5: YES!! @Seesaw definitely amplifies Ss voices and allows them the opportunity to share their thinking with classmates, teachers, and their family. #gfedchat
Making thinking visible. They learn SO much from having to organize their thoughts to convey their thinking clearly. They teach it. If you can teach it, you know it. #gfedchat
A5: making their thinking visible. Example: each student recorded themselves solving/explaining a double digit multiplication problem on seesaw. I was able to see who could explain and do and who could just do. Parents were also able to see how their child is doing #gfedchat
A5: I was looking for ideas in my first answer but Iāve really enjoyed using @Biblionasium gives students and opinions to review books, build a library and interact with others. #gfedchat
A5: I think Adobe Spark does both. Gives students the chance to bring their their thoughts to life while putting their own voice into their projects. #gfedchat
A5-I really like seeing the Ss's thinking and them being able to share that thinking with others. Technology has definitely given us more options to make that happen! #gfedchat
A5: I really like Seesaw for both! Sometimes I would assign them to show me work and explain their thinking and sometimes we would post work simply to share with others/practice commenting on each other's work! #gfedchat
A5: That's the great thing about them: students enjoy increased engagement and learning because they can share their thinking with each other. #gfedchat
A5: My class has a bit of a unique blend, but I think there is room to incorporate an app like padlet, flipgrid,or several others that would showcase student voice in their work. #gfedchat
