Tonight we are discussing In-Game Adjustments and how we take advantage of our opponent, or alter our plan
-
Let's start the night with check-ins! Be sure to follow new coaches and let us know how the season is going!
-
-
Coach Miles Hochard, DE/OLB, RBs. The Pembroke Hill school. 6-3 going into district play!
-
Season is going strong...7-0 with 3 big games to end the season
-
We will use the usual Q1,Q2...A1,A2 format tonight. Begin all answers with the answer number and tag everything with
-
6-3 going into district? How many games are in the regular season?
-
is more engaging the more you answer & respond to the other coaches participating...take charge of your professional education!
-
Jon Arthur, DC Bethany HS, Bethany, OK…6-1 so far.
-
Q1 is on the way! Thank you for being here!
-
Q1: What kind of adjustments do you make after running or seeing the opening 10-15 plays of the game?
-
Zach Turner Kenton High School. Offensive coach
-
a1 look for what they're exploiting. Still watching for tendencies.
-
A1: We look at formation advantages for the run game and how we can manipulate to open up the passing game
-
A1: Early on try and figure out if they are running what they’ve shown from film breakdown or doing something special to us.
-
Q2: If you notice something favorable early in your script (if you script), will you come off in order to take advantage?
-
A1 If what we're doing is working, not much. If struggling, we look for their reads or cntr their align to our base forms.
-
A1: Many times not..We like to stay on schedule and see each play and formation in the script before making our adjustments
-
a2 without a doubt. Take advantage of what's working until they stop it, then come back with something else.
-
Cameron Andersen, HBC, Gooding High School- Gooding, Idaho
-
A1: We attack any weakness we have found relentlessly... try to adjust formation and tempo to make them work!
-
A1: Absolutely if it means we can move the ball or score! We are very much take where they give us, so we will adjust.
-
Q3: What adjustments do you make first, formation or play type?
-
A2: Absolutely if it means we can move the ball or score! We are very much take what they give us, so we will adapt!
-
A3-Play, Shift, Formation
-
A3: From def side if a new formation they haven’t shown on film must adjust to that first before new plays by the off.
-
A3 situational. Formation if we thinks it is defensive alignment.
-
A3: We try to run our different formations early, so we can see the most advantageous look for us.
-
A3: Formation...find the favorable alignment to run our base runs and give us favorable matchups
-
Q4: How does your first half performance impact the second half adjustments you make?
-
A4: Pt1 - Must look big plays against us and see was it technique/read errors that are fixable or is it a weakness in scheme?
-
a4 we look for whats beating us how do we fix it? Formation, play, adjust schemes? If winning how will they adjust?
-
A4: Pt2 - If it is a weakness in scheme we must adjust and/or align differently.
-
A4 May use something we saved so they can't adjust/discuss in the locker room.
-
A4: tempo or play type; love going faster to get us rolling if we are dragging; maybe run more power to wrench up physicality
-
A4: We look for what is working, what we haven't run yet that we believe will, and if we need to fix anything
-
Q5: Have you ever told your team the game plan is fine, execution needs to improve? How would you improve execution in the game?
-
a5 put team in favorable positions on offense, get confidence up, remind them to get their technique right.
-
A5: Yes! Bottom line the game is about blocking, tackling, and reading keys. Tell kids in this situation to get back to basics.
-
A5-Yes but this is much easier with sideline video.
-
A5: We always talk about execution of fundamentals and plan... whether we are up big or down at any point in the game!
-
A5: If execution is the problem, I talk with the OL about what they are seeing and remind them of our rules and steps
-
that is a nice advantage...hopefully the NCAA approves it and Texas follows soon!
-
Q6: If the offense or defense doesn't line up the way you planned, how do you build in adjustments for the players to execute?
-
A6-We follow our blocking rules unless we've built in a check or called two plays.
-
A6: On the OL, we use our blocking rules to (hopefully) block however the defense lines up
-
A6 cont: We give them ways to communicate to each other to adjust to the D alignment and execute the scheme

-
-
a6 defensively, we have different formations ready to go along with alignment. Offensively, we look for their alignment ...

-
-
a6 cont. defensively to figure out angles to see how we need to take advantage of their alignment play and blocking scheme.
-
Q7: When the game plan is failing, how do you bring the team together and refocus and find what works?
-
A6: You combat this with mastering your alignment and assignment rules... this battle is won in practice not games!
-

-
A6: You combat this with mastering your alignment and assignment rules... this battle is won in practice not games!
-
A7: Get back to basics & good technique. From def side read keys, trust base front, and get lined up in a sound manner.
-
A7: Focus is found in the familiar...use the plays that they've learned since entering the program and build up successes
-
a7 find the positives. What is working. Keep confidence high by pointing out the successes. Key in on what's working
-
A7: Again, we must go back to who we are and what we know! Go to your identity! The things the boys bought into at the beginning
-
Great job tonight! I really enjoyed everybody's answers!
-
-
We talk about being a one play warrior all the time. We remind them to "be where their feet are."
