Go through your media collection. We're talking Q1 your favourite science videos and Q2 how to use them most effectively in the classroom.
With me at 8pm. There will be a shared document for your classroom media library at the end.

The one that sticks in my mind is BBC Michael Rodd on Microbes - licking his fingers after eating chicken to show the Salmonella had been killed #ASEChat#goingbackabit
Oh my gosh, I was just looking for that size of stars video and found another one - very good. Before you watch it, guess how big Proxima Centauri is compared to the Sun? I never would have guessed.... https://t.co/py5DyoQQM6#asechat
Definitely the really old clip of the alkali metals and water. Favourite line 'Things gradually get more terrifying as you go down the group 😂 #asechat

There is one of them that ends with 'No, You are NOT the centre of the universe' Which I love showing to pupils when they're getting a wee bit big for their boots! #asechat
There's a lot in the back catalogue here: #asechat BBC Links will still work if they're currently hosting the program on iPlayer https://t.co/VyfpzJLWbv
BBC published the whole 'Life' series as DVDs and produced an index of clips which was really useful - and David himself promoted this at ASE Conference 2012 #ASEChat
Have you ever made a youtube video to share with your classes #asechat Here's one I edited a few years ago https://t.co/SRZuCa9Qan#ks34 energy resources

It would be good to hear how you get on. Once video uploaded can create QR code of link and attach code to apparatus, to save chldn typing links incorrectly #ASEChat
#asechat KS4 chemistry https://t.co/CLllvbJbTx Love this to introduce periodic table; look at reactions of a group (1 or 7) reactions of metals or how metals and non-metals react. Just short clips or the full video
Install the uBlock Origin adblocker to make YouTube videos more usable in the classroom. This is a Chrome "Extension" so can usually be done without administrator permissions. #asechat
Think about whether the video is used to enhance or replace activities. Good Practical Science warned of dangers of pupils becoming spectators rather than performers #ASEChat
.. and apologies for the ridiculous music on some... I was testing out the YouTube soundtracks... it's mainly demo videos and a fair bit of homework projects when students have done something I can share #asechat

One local school downloaded all their favourite video clips to a shared drive and linked to them from the SoW. Avoided children being exposed to same video in multiple years #ASEChat
#asechat KS4 chemistry https://t.co/ZWl2QTGOqf could use start of this to show how to set up practical (easier for all to see) - the re-show after practical to discuss findings. Never instead of!
Nother top tip #asechat
Let's say @MouldS has spent the first half of his video talking about something you don't care about.
Well in your link store the time you want to start https://t.co/zOMW7ewlW8
Using &t=60s etc
Ask kids what would happen if you had a steel ball on a pendulum hanging at an angle from the ceiling with the ball by your chin. You let it go. What would happen... video starts at the right point to save you time... https://t.co/pEbMhlPACB#asechat
Brilliant video - I went one better and set this up in my classroom. Hung a basketball from the ceiling and did it for real. The gasps from the class were amazing! #asechat
One of my faves: Giraffe's have long necks for reaching high leaves? Wrong! They have long necks for fighting (some evolutionary biologists believe) https://t.co/vtFPnCbzia#ASEchat
There are some great platforms that use videos as part of their "educational" content. I made this lesson for Ed Ted. Try it.
What other platforms do you use to share media with students for homework etc #asechathttps://t.co/VSBve9afSC
Depends on the clip - as ever the question should be what do you want them to learn. The clip should facilitate that not be the focus of the lesson - (usually) #asechat
Lots of discussion, watch 2 or 3 times, older pupils take brief notes. We often watch at home, take notes and then discuss in class. As with any resource though it's the skill of the teacher that makes it work or not #asechat
Use practical videos like these alongside @GoogleForEdu forms as a HW to check understanding of practicals or before we do the practical to enable pupils to think through the steps beforehand #ASEChat#kS4#Biology#scichat
Use clips to give a historical or social perspective - eg changing theories over time, or social impact of genetic manipulation with mitochondrial disease #ASEChat
