  • irvingmrslucas Feb 21 @ 9:25 PM EST
A3: in my band & chorus class, we always relate back to and expand in general music learning. #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:26 PM EST
What do folk dances look like in performance? How large is your group and where do you have them perform? #elmused
    In reply to @aileenmiracle
  • phyllissings Feb 21 @ 9:26 PM EST
A3: absolutely. Every. Single. Day. #elmused
  • tracyking Feb 21 @ 9:26 PM EST
A3 #elmused My choir meets after school. Don't follow curriculum but use folk songs and other things from it.
  • aileenmiracle Feb 21 @ 9:27 PM EST
I usually have 1-2 classes perform one dance, and they perform on the stage or in front of the risers on the floor. #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • phyllissings Feb 21 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3: notation, sight reading using solfege, musical concepts like dynamics and phrasing etc. #elmused
  • Allegro1225 Feb 21 @ 9:28 PM EST

    In reply to @LJoEve
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:29 PM EST

  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:30 PM EST
    Q4 coming up! #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:31 PM EST
Q4: Do you plan to incorporate curriculum into your concert music, or do you find opportunities in the moment? #elmused
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:31 PM EST
Hi all! I'm late, but I'm here :-) Patrick from DFW K-5 Gen Mus + 3 choirs #ElMusEd
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:32 PM EST
A4: A little of both, mostly it's in the moment, and most often its the kids who initiate those conversations! #elmused
  • LJoEve Feb 21 @ 9:32 PM EST
A4: currently, as the opportunities appear but I want it to be more purposeful in the future. #elmused
  • Kodalymusictchr Feb 21 @ 9:33 PM EST
All planned. My district believes strongly that classes r not program driven, but curriculum driven. We have some who do big programs #elmused
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:33 PM EST
A1 Any grade level performances I give are informances, so 100% instructional #ElMusEd
  • tracyking Feb 21 @ 9:34 PM EST
#elmused A4 I would love to be more intentional with curricular planning for choir, but now I just use ops as they appear in rehearsal.
  • JEcleMusic Feb 21 @ 9:34 PM EST
A4 I like to know what standards I can cover by analyzing the repertoire in advance. But some of it happens in the moment! #elmused
  • irvingmrslucas Feb 21 @ 9:34 PM EST
A4: mostly planned, but sometimes I go where the students take us! #elmused
  • aileenmiracle Feb 21 @ 9:34 PM EST
A4: A little of both. I am purposeful with choosing, but sometimes I want to do a song and then I pull curriculum from it. #elmused
  • Mwren13 Feb 21 @ 9:35 PM EST
Hi everyone! Hoping to jump in for a bit if my phone and kiddos will cooperate. K-3 Music. IL. #ElMusEd
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:35 PM EST
Its hard to keep my classes together- we'll sing something where there's a relevant concept, but not all Ss are there yet. #elmused
    In reply to @LJoEve
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:36 PM EST
Q3 I have dedicated ensemble rehearsals after school for all 3 choirs, don't try to bring curriculum to that time, but... #ElMusEd
  • Mwren13 Feb 21 @ 9:36 PM EST
A1. Each grade I teach K-3 each have one concert. We basically take a break for 3-4 weeks and focus on concert music. #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:37 PM EST
Love the idea of informances! Was this challenging to introduce to the school culture? #elmused
    In reply to @canmaestro
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:37 PM EST
A3 (1/2) Dedicated after school rehearsals for all 3 choirs, no effort to bring curriculm to that time, but... #ElMusEd
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:38 PM EST
A3 (2/2) I'm usually doing the most advanced things the choir can handle, so there's lots of automatic overlap #ElMusEd
  • Kodalymusictchr Feb 21 @ 9:38 PM EST
for sure! I do a lot of extensions for groups that get ahead. My brain can't handle if they are too far apart #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg, @LJoEve
  • canmaestro - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:39 PM EST
Not at all. There was no expectation of cutesy performances when I arrived. :-) #elmused
    In reply to @MrsLevenberg
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:40 PM EST
    Q5 coming up! #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:41 PM EST
Q5: If you plan to make curricular connections to concert music, how do you plan and how often are you making those connections? #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:42 PM EST
A5: I connect the concepts to the music we're already learning, not the other way around. Doesn't happen as often as I'd like.. #elmused
  • Kodalymusictchr Feb 21 @ 9:44 PM EST
A5: Program music typically comes from the 'practice' of PPP #elmused
  • irvingmrslucas Feb 21 @ 9:46 PM EST
A5: I map out the rehearsal time and revisit often! #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:48 PM EST
    Q6 coming up! #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:49 PM EST
Q6: Any other “best practices” tips or suggestions for balancing curriculum and teaching concert music? #elmused
  • MrsLevenberg Feb 21 @ 9:50 PM EST
A6: Giving kids time and space to talk about the music naturally brings up curricular connections to the music. #elmused
  • aileenmiracle Feb 21 @ 9:51 PM EST
A6: I create all of my musicals based on books/themes so I make sure that the material is appropriate and fits into the curriculum. #elmused
  • irvingmrslucas Feb 21 @ 9:52 PM EST
A6: create rehearsal cds and anything else you'd need in case of emergency ASAP! Sick days, lost voice, etc! #elmused
