Diana DaCosta, along with 2 co-moderators from the West Orange Teacher Twitter Taskforce Team will host these monthly chats. #WO2WorldChat's mission is to promote collegiality, collaboration, and professional development beyond the confines of the traditional school day that in turn will promote the success of all students.
"Good Evening..." in my best Alfred Hitchcock voice, immediately dating myself! WELCOME to our JAN #wo2worldchat We're also flying a #newtwo initiative: bring 2 new peeps into the convo, hv them tagya & win a cup of JO'
Welcome:
Hi everyone! My name is Nicole Eoon and I am an 8th grade math teacher over at Roosevelt Middle School. My #OneWord2019 focus for this school year is EMPOWER.
#WO2Worldchat#JoyfulLeaders
Hi! I'm Maria Iovino from Redwood School, 5th Grade ELA/SS My one word is #SERENITY Working on being peaceful, calm and untroubled professionally and personally #WO2worldchat#JoyfulLeaders#OneWord2019
A1: A specific new year's resolution I am making for myself to try in my classroom before this school year is up is allowing students to be more independent. I want to be more of a facilitator & let students take the lead more often #studentvoice#studentled#wo2worldchat
A1: My resolution is to infuse more S engagement. They need to be #stakeholders. I also want to inspire other Ts to do the same. #sparkteam#wo2worldchat
A1: NY Resolution for the Classroom? I'm trying to give more responsibility to Ss. Today, I had my ESL student give a spelling pre-test to his classmates. This empowered my S and allowed me time to observe Ss at work. #WO2WorldChat
A1 I really want to try some GreenScreening with @DoInkTweets before the year is up. I've also had an @curiscope Tshirt for AR & a @MergeVR cube that need testing. But @edpuzzle is probably the 1st thing I'll put into play - interactive engaging w/ video #wo2worldchat
A1 Seeing through the creation of a #WO2World EdTech Hub complete with blog entries from our amazing colleagues! Here is a sneak peek-Stay tuned! #WO2WorldChat
A2: A PERSONAL commitment I am making to myself is to have my dissertation published as an article in an ed journal as well as pursue other research interests & write other articles as well #wo2worldchat
A2:
A personal commitment I am making to myself in 2019 is to travel more; to continue learning about the people, cultures (and of course, food) of our world.
#WO2WorldChat#becausefood
Sorry I’m late - hi everyone A1: New Years Resolution - keep working toward a student centered learning environment - I’m getting there !! #WO2WorldChat
A2 #wo2worldchat My #oneword2019 is CREATE. While my main desire is to finish the last 6 chpts of my bk, it's soothing to draw, watercolor & sketch. Singing also frees me. This is a series of one line contour drawings I did this wkend while at a jazz festival.
A2: I am personally committing to a lifestyle change including mindful eating, healing movement, and daily meditation- it's been a few short weeks but already feeling a difference! #WO2WorldChat
A3: My 2019 Turn On! Somethings I love: Books: Refugee (Alan Gratz), A Long Walk to Water (Linda Sue Park), The President is Missing (James Patterson/Bill Clinton), Outliers (Malcolm Gladwell), Educated (Tara Westover), Becoming (Michelle Obama) ALL AWESOME #wo2worldchat
A3: My obsession is Game of Thrones! @GameOfThrones I finished 2018 binge watching seasons 1-7. Anxious for April 14 for Season 8! #OBSESSED#wo2worldchat
A3:
If you haven't already... go watch Crazy Rich Asians. It's the first American blockbuster film to feature an all-Asian cast in over 25 years (Joy-Luck Club, 1993). I almost cried when I saw faces that looked like mine on the big screen...
#WO2WorldChat#RepresentationMatters
The Secret by Rhonda Bryne is my favorite feel-good book, my personal bible for personal growth and mindset #WO2WorldChat#LawofAttraction "Life is not happening to you, you are creating it!"
A1: Sorry! I'm late, too! A specific new year's resolution that I am making to myself in the classroom is to try to implement a "recording studio" in my classroom to showcase student voice. The wonderful @MrsIovino gave me a tent to use, now I just need to start! #WO2WorldChat
A2: A personal commitment that I am making to myself is to get back to the gym on a regular basis. Unfortunately for us, all the "running around" we do for teaching doesn't translate to steps on my Fitbit. #WO2WorldChat
A4: 🎬 My favorite movie about teaching or education is #SchoolofRock with @jackblack It is FUNNY! I never tire of watching it. But the message is about a teacher finding students' strengths & talents & nurturing their growth.
#wo2worldchat
A4: Favorite educational movie-The Breakfast Club. I was a kid of the 80's and learned valuable lessons about judgement, peer pressure and punishment that I took as a student and translated into treating my students as humans as a T. #wo2worldchat
A3: One of my favorite t.v. series, Suits, is making it's return on January 23rd. If you've never seen it before, give it a shot! The first few seasons are available for free if you have Amazon Prime. @Suits_USA#Suits#WO2WorldChat
A4:
Good Will Hunting will always have a special place in my heart. Everyone has brilliance. Sometimes it takes someone else recognizing it in us before we can recognize it in ourselves.
#WO2WorldChat
A4: #Matilda is my favorite movie about teaching. Why? Miss Honey is a great example of believing in your Ss and allowing them to have a voice #StuVoice#WO2WorldChat
A4 #wo2worldchat Tough! Toss up between Mr. Holland's Opus & The Great Debaters, but I think I have to give it to the latter. So many though. PLZ: chk out this clip: It's Killer! Is there ANYone better than Denzel Washington? https://t.co/17RhHnwvqG
A4: I love Hidden Figures for the simple fact that is dispells so many different myths about what mathematicians can look like. It also illuminated a moment in history that I was unaware of prior to watching this movie. #WO2WorldChat
A3: Could be old news for some, but right now I’m loving #AMillionDreams by @Pink. I feel so inspired and empowered when I listen to it!! #wo2worldchat
A5: I practice meta-cognition where teaching is concerned by giving students access to multiple modalities in which to learn, express themselves & share their learning. Give them words, pictures, writing opportunities, etc. to help them learn & share that knowledge #wo2worldchat
A5: As an ELA T over thinking my own thinking and others' is an occupational hazard! I am always reflecting/questioning how I think and how to grow in my thinking and practices. As a 25th year T and pride myself on growth from #metacognition#wo2worldchat
A5:
I take the time to ask my students, "How did that go?" and "What could we have done differently?". By engaging in a metacognitive process with my students, I can develop a better understanding of how to make our learning experiences more meaningful.
#WO2Worldchat
A5: Reflection is a HUGE part of how I use metacognition in my teaching. Constant self-assessment of lessons and self-correcting the second time I teach a lesson are a part of my daily practice #WO2WorldChat
A5 #wo2worldchat I think there's nothing more important to living & growth than self-reflection. I practice #metacognition by hitting a 🛑 when I'm feeling MOST frustrated/UPSET; most wronged & ask myself: what's REALLY going on here? Why did THIS hit a nerve? #itsusuallyme
A4:
Good Will Hunting will always have a special place in my heart. Everyone has brilliance. Sometimes it takes someone else recognizing it in us before we can recognize it in ourselves.
#WO2WorldChat
A5: I practice metacognition by reflecting on my teaching and approaches, being open to constructive criticism from supervisors and students, and discussing challenging lessons with respected colleagues for their feedback. #WO2WorldChat
A5 #WO2Worldchat I would add that I mull things over a lot w/ 2 trusted friends @dmdacosta13 & @BevTindall & they keep me candid & don't BS me or tell me what I'd like to hear. That helps too.
I’m a post it note queen I place notes all over to remind me of ideas and also @DFerrera521 and I plan to create a VLOG as a reflection tool for our @AveForChangeEDU work - stay tuned #WO2WorldChat

A6: An aspect of my pedagogy practice I wish to expand in the coming year is more of a practice in andragogy (how adults learn). That is continuing to let students know what the intrinsic/extrinsic motivators are so they can understand WHY we learn! #buyin#wo2worldchat
A6:
Students have confided in me that they often find themselves feeling "stuck" when learning new and difficult math concepts. I want to empower them to break through these feelings by teaching them the principles of Carol Dweck's #GrowthMindset.
#WO2WorldChat#Yet
A6 #wo2worldchat Pedagogy reflection = life reflection. In all arenas an unswerving examination of my own ego/fear of failure/ Embarrassment WASTES my TIME, stymes my OWN growth & is something I voluntarily put MYSELF through -is what I'm working to DROP so i can EXPAND!
A6: Continuing the quest to create professional learning experiences that are not one size fits all and leaves Ts inspired to push past comfort zones! #WO2WorldChat
A6: going to keep working on better questioning techniques to get the most out of learning - more fishbowl learning and Socratic discussions #studentled#WO2WorldChat
A6: I'm striving to further differentiate the learning taking place in my classroom and offering more student choices for students to demonstrate their learning. #WO2WorldChat
Another hiney-kickin' #wo2worldchat folks! Enjoyed it as always and THANKS for participating! Let's make these Resolutions REALITY! 6 Qs better than 7, yes? G'night!
