The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Welcome to tonight’s #INeLearn chat! I’m Amy, principal/lead learner from Angola, your moderator tonight!
We are continuing our series- “A Vision for the Future”. Tonight, our topic - Innovation! #INeLearn

While the intros are rolling, just a reminder that we use the Q1, R1 format for chatting. We know you're out there so don't be afraid to chime in! #INeLearn
R1 I think it means being willing to try new things. I think that can be new to you, new to students, new to the school/district. It doesn't have to always mean reinventing the wheel. #INeLearn
We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. But sometimes the wheel is not what we need! I think it definitely involves taking risks so that we can change the way we “do” school! #INeLearn
R2 I think we have to give Ts every opportunity to go out and see what is happening in innovative schools. Sometimes they just need a visual of the end-goal. #INeLearn
R1: To me, innovation means the willingness to try, to revamp traditional methods to meet new needs, and to not allow fear to hinder our ability to meet student needs. #INeLearn
I think innovation means to look at a problem, circumstance, or experience as an opportunity to involve the right stakeholders in making the situation better. Innovation is process oriented in my opinion #INeLearn
Always felt we don’t do enough to allow teachers the time to see effective use of instruction/innovation. Sometimes we forget some learn best by modeling. #INeLearn

Making sure teachers voice and expertise are recognize and valued in the process to innovate. Be transparent in communicating why we need to look at this from a different lens. #INeLearn
How do we help Ts feel comfortable enough to fail? Everything seems so high-stakes these days with evaluation methods. I agree with you! As a hopeful admin in training, I've been thinking on this. #INeLearn
Yes, we need to be more intentional with this. Our teachers are awesome! But they are entrenched in the work! In order to share awesome, we need to be intentional in giving time to do so. #INeLearn
Culture. Culture. Culture. It takes time, but when the leaders are willing to jump into the classroom as an instructional leader, support, provide opportunities to share, then we can build that. #INeLearn
I think admin could have reflective conversations about how things are going without judgment and see where they can help. Sometimes just a conversation is encouragement enough to innovate. #inelearn

R3: Sometimes, being the innovator means you get called on for everything. It is hard enough to be a leader; harder still for it to be expected from you with too many expectations and without support #INeLearn

I agree. That is often an “easy” scapegoat. We are allowing that to control us rather than innovate our schools to become what is best for kids. #INeLearn
R3: fear of change. So many of the things we do in education are the same things that were done 100 yrs ago. Teach, then test. Kids want more; colleges want more; businesses want more. Time to change. #inelearn
Sometimes we fall into the trap of standardized test data so much that we provide a standardized educational experience. That's a problem and not really what's best for students. #inelearn
R3: I agree with @3DChampion that perhaps we are looking for excuses to as to why we are not as innovative as teachers as we expect our students to be. #INeLearn
R4: The standardized world of education needs a shakeup. In reality, being innovative and changing the way we do things will cause standardization to change with it. #inelearn

We must get past the mindset that education is standardized. Every child, adult, and stakeholder requires one thing different to get where they need to be. Innovation is the way we meet every ones needs the best we can #INeLearn

R5 Not strictly tech-related, but I am intrigued with the "house-method" of culture building. I think it would foster the climate needed for innovation. #INeLearn
R5: coding. I just received a grant from @LTSFoundation where I am purchasing @arduino devices for my Ss to use for coding. Obviously a good choice for physics; however, I’m stretching to biology. Isn’t coding tech the same as genetic coding? #inelearn

R5 what is tried (or implemented) with technology ought to be motivated by curriculum (or instruction) because unfortunately that is usually NOT the case...so that would be INNOVATIVE, wouldn't it? #INeLearn
R2: I think that we need more progressive leadership that allows Ts 2 take risks. I have worked in a districts where this has taken place. I led a school where upper admin refused 4 this to take place. Look at letter grades for the districts and see the difference. #inelearn
Hopefully, we are at a point in tech integration where we are driven by curricular objectives and instructional outcomes. I know this isn’t the case, but I find it best practice! #INeLearn

R6: building partnerships with different organizations. @LTSFoundation, @SHPE, @RollsRoyce are a couple that I have established in the past couple of years to help ALL my Ss, no matter socioeconomics or race. #inelearn

R6 @TradersPointCS now has a Technology Committee consisting of myself, principals, Chief Financial Officer, and Head of School which I hope will constitute our "Cabinet" #INeLearn
@1stmakerspace as well. Another local business that has been helpful in providing innovative products that are assimilated into the curriculum and provide opportunities for 21st century skills. #INeLearn

R7: I share with my Science sept colleagues along with other teacher in my building and throughout the district. I might tweet out pictures of things I do sometimes #inelearn
R7 I try to be open to colleagues and sit with them when they ask for ideas. I try to model the brainstorming process. It's mostly about sharing though...presenting, social media, etc. #INeLearn
A7: I'm constantly troubleshooting and trying to make things better. I think aloud, striving to include others in solving problems with this lens. #INelearn
R7: Sometimes I will show my colleagues something they want to see, then something that I think is cool that could help them as well. Done this with a #PLC from my dept a couple weeks ago. It worked out well for all involved. #inelearn
WU: More collaboration with all parties. More community service and PBL activities. More communication between subject area teachers working toward a common focus. Schools must become more than just learning content, but learning skills for a lifetime. #inelearn
WU To really take a look at the world we are sending our kids into. Schools should reflect the future reality of our Ss which means preparing them for the unknown. Focus on skills that will work in those situations rather than mindless facts that can be Googled. #INeLearn
I look forward to the day our schools have no grade levels, where students move at their pace through curricular objectives, and teachers facilitate learning and projects. We are so close!!! #INeLearn
