#BrevardTLC Archive

#BrevardTLC is a Teacher Leadership Council in Brevard County, Florida that empowers teacher leaders within the district and supports other districts in their creation of teacher leadership councils. Moderators and executive directors, Dr. Lucy Haddock @lucille414 and Mrs. Christina Donohue @DonohueTeach facilitate monthly chats about leadership and more. Chats are held on the third Thursday of every month 7:00-8:00pm EST.

    As a teacher I always appreciated parent volunteers, community leaders coming to share their profession with my students, and community members coming to read or support science labs! The BSF provided options of great partners to reach out to. #BrevardTLC

    A4- I current work with business partners to support our school and facilitate our parent volunteers. At our school we have business partners and volunteers who mentor our students through our JUMP program. #brevardtlc

    A5- The Foundation supports teachers by connecting the needs of our classroom/schools with business partners and grant opportunities available through multiple resources. I still remember the day when a grant I applied for was funded through the Foundation. #brevardtlc

    #BrevardTLC Michelle, you are exactly right! Sometimes teachers aren't sure how to reach out to the community or make a dream a reality. The Foundations is excellent for connecting ideas and resources!

    A6- @NASA or @SpaceX can partner with science classrooms to bring applications to the students for hands on learning. Often schools have clubs or science labs that would be a great place for businesses to provide resources to support the learning of our students. #brevardtlc

    A6: The needs of each school and the community are different. Title one schools may need food and supplies. While other schools may need additional resources like sports equipment. Each school and community would have to decide there own needs. #BrevardTLC

    A6: we just did a career day @ElaineLarsen Motorsports. Amazing student engagement and literally fired them up for STEM! #BrevardTLC

    A6- Currently we have secondary schools that have bare science classrooms. Our science classrooms should spark inquiry, innovation, & the desire to apply learning through a variety of labs, projects, & experiments. We need the support our of local community to do so! #brevardtlc

    @SpaceX just began supporting Brevard classrooms by funding Bright Ideas Classroom Grants. We hope it's the beginning of a great relationship with @SpaceX and education in Brevard County #SupportingInnovation #BrevardTLC

    A very cool idea indeed - a top 10 needs list for each school would definitely help community partners or even businesses who match employee donations help fill needs where there are gaps! #BrevardTLC

    #BrevardTLC This makes me so happy!!!!! Thank you @SpaceX we appreciate your support! Could you imagine if we joined forces and had school/business partnership?! Scientist visiting the school often to collaborate with teachers to ensure we are career ready focused.

    A6- We live in a special place here on the Space Coast with access to a wealth of knowledge (Astronauts, Engineers, Scientist, & more). I'd love to have a round table discussion with a specific group to discuss needs of both the school & the business industry. #brevardtlc

    Another example is artist and conservationist @Wyland and the @WylandORG who have partnered with us to fund Bright Ideas Classroom Grants to engage our students in art and marine mammal conservation here in Florida. @PalmBayMagnetHS had an incredible project this year #BrevardTLC

    A9- Depending on the extent of the help- A hand written note or a phone call from the teacher or administrator. Larger supports may lend itself to a plaque or other recognition piece. Many schools use banners to recognize business partners. #brevardtlc

    A11- When I was an elementary teacher I would invite community leaders to come and facilitate science experiments, read to my class, or even Skype with us. (@LindaSuePark ) She was amazing when the Skyped my students! #brevardtlc

    A11- @AJMSGenerals we host an annual women's professional day in which we seek professional women to visit our school and share their stories with our students. We have several mothers who join us each year. #brevardtlc
