We're chatting about using edtech for social good! How can companies and teachers work together to envision a better world?! Chat with Empatico, Jen Williams and more educators!
Hi everyone. I'm Tavia, joining in from Portland, OR. I'm an EdTech TOSA for @evergreenps and I'm so excited to chat with everyone tonight! #edtech4good
When choosing to use various #edtech tools, they (1) MUST help teachers work smarter not harder, (2)build students 21st century learning skills and (3) be able to fit any content/standards, not the other way around. #InstructionalPriorities#edtech4good
A1. Choosing a tool to use is an important process for me. I believe in using them intentionally to support good pedagogical practices. For ongoing use, I like to see things that allow Ss to be creative & think critically. I also like tools that are efficient. #edtech4good
A1 I just want the #edtech tools to be a vital part of the lesson. The kids know when technology is used for the sake of using it. If it makes the process more tedious instead of enhancing it, I've missed the boat. #edtech4good
Only requirement is that it is a tool that will help get the job done! We all have the same goal - how we get there and what tools we use depend on our perceived strengths and weaknesses. #edtech4good
A2: LOTS of planning. Phase 1: Teacher Prep which includes goal setting, management, and planning. Phase 2: Student Roll Out. Phase 3: Ongoing Reflection

A2. It's nice to have both Ts & Ss feedback abt the tool's usability. Supporting a good tool also requires good PD opps where Ts are using it in application and modeling good pedagogical practices. & it's important to figure out how to sustain a budget for it. #edtech4good
A2: Sustained use of a good #edtech tool is only successful w/a slow intentional role out - meaning PD (in various forms) that shows Ts real world applications that fit into their curriculum. Showing how Ss can use w/ fidelity. #edtech4good
A2 My school district purchased Google Chromebooks for all high school students last year, and it extending to lower grades. They gave us all we need; we just have to explore resources and share our findings and failings with each other. #edtech4good
Again 123:
1️⃣ decision to use tool has a compelling why that came from the teachers collectively (possibly ILT)
2️⃣ grade levels (PLCs) decide what the tool will look like for their grade level/content
3️⃣ look for’s and accountability supported by coach/admin
#edtech4good
A2 today I presented on using @EmpaticoOrg to all 1st & 2nd year teachers in district. So allowing for peer to peer sharing of good technology would be a strong start #edtech4good
A3. One way is to ensure that Ts get training that includes follow up with how they're using the tool intentionally to support instruction and how they provide opps for Ss to connect, create, and think critically about content & the world outside of the school walls. #edtech4good
Focused! No more random acts of tech. It should be 1️⃣ meaningful and 2️⃣ purposeful, 3️⃣ unlock learning that would not be possible otherwise. #edtech4good sticking to my three steps! 😄🤓
A3. By giving Ts time to explore a tool and talk about intentional, embedded use to support teaching and learning, you help them build tech confidence. This goes a long way in helping them create environments where tools can give Ss a platform for social good. #edtech4good

"Random acts of tech." Technology should be equally, if not more, purposeful as our questioning, learning tasks, text selection, assessment etc. #edtech4good
A3 when a plan explains how the tech connects to bigger picture & aligns w/ Standards it helps provide the Why, which leads to more sustainable implementation, we all became T’s to make the world a better place, some tech can help us do just that. #edtech4good
A3. We just can't forget pedagogy - everything starts with good, strong teaching and learning. This is the common thread. The tool is just that, a tool, to build and support what's already great. #edtech4good

A3: A sustainable plan should include how Ts & Ss can connect to real world issues like Global Goals etc @MikeSaracini is really good @ connecting his students to the outside world for good using #edtech tools. #edtech4good
Q4: We need your help! We want to connect one million students (40,000 educators) around the world by the year 2020. Applications are now OPEN for The Empathy Project Fellowship. Please tag in first through fifth- grade educators that you feel may be great candidates!

A3: The technology plan framework should focus on providing new opportunities for our learners- Exposure to perspectives and new views. Can this tool provide a chance for our students to be the problem solvers of today?! #edtech4good
