Hi #XPLAP crew! Stefanie Crawford, gamified instructional coach (and former gamified middle school teacher) from Illinois. On my wishlist? A small soundboard to explore podcasting and the board game Railroad Ink.
Hello! My name's Dalton. Excited to be doing my first #XPLAP! Currently on my classroom wishlist: A full set of the Harry Potter series. Because none of my junior ELA students have read it and it's making me lose faith in the next generation haha
Welcome #xplap crew! No matter the time of year, there's always something we're pining for. Introduce yourself and tell us something that's on your wishlist.
Hi! I'm Carol from Birmingham, AL. I teach 2nd grade. My shortlist would be a pro subscription to Canva. Big wish list is to travel this summer. #xplap
Hey There #XPLAP... I'm Adam from SC. I teach US History and we are in FINALS WEEK!
On my wishlist... I want to figure out how to take a fantasy map and make it into a mario-like world map...
Hello everyone. Mariana garcia Serrato, MS STEM from San Jose, CA. On my wishlist ... the next Carlos Ruiz Zafon book in the Laberynth of the forgotten books series (Does not come out until Jan though) #XPLAP
Hey #xplap! Alicia from NC - I want to go on a PLN trip to visit the schools of my PLN faves & have dinner with each one! I think that's a perfectly reasonable gift to ask for under the tree, lol. Yes?
A soundboard is awesome. I started a podcast this semester with just a mic and my computer and it's actually turning out ok, but a soundboard would help. #xplap
Hello #xplap community! Jordan Billings 7th grade social studies and I would like some magical elves to help me laminate and cut out all of my new game cards...trying to get kids pet cards before break 😬
Welcome #xplap crew! No matter the time of year, there's always something we're pining for. Introduce yourself and tell us something that's on your wishlist.
Desiree Masters - secondary math teach @DunlapSchools in Illinois. Just started adding some families elements this year. Wishlist item- a laminator! #XPLAP

I am not a materialistic person and don’t want for much (I would say tenure—it’s my tenure year). I would always welcome anothe @dbc_inc book #xplap
Welcome #xplap crew! No matter the time of year, there's always something we're pining for. Introduce yourself and tell us something that's on your wishlist.
Hey hey #XPLAP. Dave Kolb, 7th Grade Math, Genoa IL. On my wishlist...The best honeymoon ever! @Miss_Harter and I leave on December 20th for the Dominican Republic. Can.Not.Wait.
Jimmy, 6th grade math teacher from SD. All I truly want is for my 8-month old to sleep through the night :), but a Nintendo Switch would be nice too! #xplap
Hey #xplap! Josh Stock, 6th grade Language Arts teacher from Olathe, KS, on my wish list is a new microphone that's more mobile for my podcasting. #xplap
A1: 4 dice per group to dictate word count (each group rolls all 4 dice at one time for each question), 3 essential questions, answers require evidence, and only 6 minutes to complete it in! Review as a class to choose winner. ALL students participate and are invested. #XPLAP
A1: I've probably shared this before but my open world game concept has been really helpful with engagement, completion, creative and critical thinking. Ss never know when the work is done til its actually done... #XPLAPhttps://t.co/EGNUVO1Ler
A1: I just added the Cootie game to my review boss battle. If the groups answered correctly, they had the opportunity to roll for a part to their bug. The kids loved it! #xplap
A1: I love mazes! I pick 10 ?s and Ss have to work them correctly to know which problem to do next. Ss are up and working together and I can quick check for the correct order of answers. #XPLAP
A1: As a librarian, I always just Iike asking the Ss how they are? It is a genuine way to interact with them, from 8am -3pm. Just a simple “How are you?” #XPLAP
A1 🤔 Tough. This week I tried my first Digital Breakout (combined with a Sketch Note)to teach Judaism—some kinks that needed to be worked out but it’s been amazing. First place gets 3x XP and a game item. Awesome. #xplap
A1: I love going into classrooms and doing Quizlet Live with the kids! I won't have a clue about the content being covered, but love to play with the Ss. They help me out and are so sweet when I miss a question. I don't mind saying "I don't know" #xplap
a1) Kahoot is pretty popular. Did a quizlet live today they seemed to like. https://t.co/1hQBj9CEKX is pretty appealing. boss battles are showing some promise. oops, I guess that wasn't just one. #xplap
A1 Chutes and Ladders has worked really well during my WIN (intervention) classes. Students answer math questions as quick as possible to roll and move their tokens on the game board. Boss Battles and Danger Cards are favorites as well. #XPLAP
Question 2 will require you to do a little cobbling, so make sure you've looked at people's favorite activities from Q1 before Q2 drops in 2 minutes. #XPLAP
A1: After being off my game today . . . I do a creed project with my older students each year -- they examine traits they admire, people they admire and write their own personal creed -- it can be SUP powerful #xplap
A1- right now any of the @classcraftgame tools have been a favorite...timers with so goals or the makus valley volume meter have kept my kids on track in these final days.#xplap
A1 playing any competition with Boggle rules (must have the most amount and unique answers) works with reviews, previews, book work, digital work, group or individual #xplap
A1 I also have this awesome set of slide decks in which students work through various skills to earn their Internet Driver's License -- it ends with them making their License by inserting pics, text, logos, etc #xplap
A1: Also launched #SocStudSnaps for our deep dive into the Gold Rush. Modified #BookSnaps strategy to encourage visual processing & citing evidence. #xplap
It was a blast but next time I would give every group the head and the body to start. It took them forever just to get that part and it slowed down the game until I just passed every group one so we could move on to building the bug. :) #xplap
A1: I like using food for team building (i.e. draw an M&M with each color coordinating to a personal question). Quizlet gets EVERYONE excited. I also like using themes to pull them into competitions (recently used a Salem Witch Trials "drama" for a test review). #xplap
Q2: You've received and given a gift in all these new ideas. Let the giving continue! Pick one and add a new element (or two) or smash it by mixing it with another idea that someone presented. #XPLAP
I was JUST chatting about this with my sister who teaches and she loves it...I’ve been designing a smaller scale something like this and may be asking for a set of experienced eyes to check it out #xplap
A1: In math class, I started using a Google form for students to use as a chapter reflection. They reflect on which learning targets they understand the most/least. And share positive thoughts and experiences that have recently happened. #XPLAP
A1: This is tricky for there are so many things I love! I love my hacker competitions and my knights academy (where student earn ranking stars) which is coming up... #xplap
I'm basing my #FETC conference on this. Next week after my grades are set I am planning on recording a practice session and posting it up. (hopefully the tech works this time!) #XPLAP
A1 and not to be a total suck up -- by introducng my gamified theme each year is pretty dope. This year my students are wildlife preserve workers who discover on their 1st day that all the animals escaped. Every time they level up an animal comes home. #xplap
A2: Using @MrsCford_tweets idea of dice roll to decide # of words in a response, Ss are given a set of review Qs & can only use total number on roll. If you roll a zero (0-9 die), can trade 1 die with another team. #xplap
This has got me very intrigued. Especially for my freshman ELA students who are just getting their actual permit... And who are just now in a 1:1 chromebook situation, using the internet for everything they do (for the first time). More info would be appreciated! #xplap
This was a hilarious addition to my game. Plus some groups were WAY behind but because of the dice, they had the chance to catch up and one group did! #xplap
A2 I've done a combo of quizizz and with whatever we are studying, but also giving team points in my gamified class for hitting a certain class percentage of right answers, or the entire class getting the mystery questions right (kind of like PeeWee's secret word) #xplap
A2: piecing the Cootie idea w @desireemasters maze. Dismembered Cootie along the maze. Correct answers let you collect parts to make it whole when you escape the maze #XPLAP
A2 I honest liked you 4 dice activity! 4 dice seem like a lot though so maybe 2 or 3—I like the short summary thing. I typically have them do six word summaries....no more no less. Makes them think! #XPLAP
Q2: You've received and given a gift in all these new ideas. Let the giving continue! Pick one and add a new element (or two) or smash it by mixing it with another idea that someone presented. #XPLAP
Yes, that was my original idea I shared awhile back but then I thought, the game of Cooties already comes with 4 bugs which was cheaper. :) #xplap. I'm glad you like the idea! My class loved it.
A2: I love the idea of classroom power ups and the unit map like a Mario world map... my brain is a buzz with ideas for a Mario themed classroom #XPLAP
A2: Still reading "The Crucible" and I think there's a way to incorporate @jellison23 's ongoing "worker" idea with my witch trials theme. Maybe have one student be the "accuser" and one a "judge" and one the town "farmer." Enough points and they avoid the noose. #xplap
Q2: You've received and given a gift in all these new ideas. Let the giving continue! Pick one and add a new element (or two) or smash it by mixing it with another idea that someone presented. #XPLAP
hmm, what about taking the cootie thing and having them make the "boss" that they battle at the end of the unit. Maybe each time they get a question wrong the boss gets more powerful? #xplap
A2 @missmac100 I will mash my Boggle rules with the use of dice (it tends) to be to big of a list I could use the dice to limit the number to have more critical thinking #xplap
Not just the secret word, but even the "Secret Question" . it is hidden in the activity with NO identify factors (I just pick one), and as a result they work hard on all questions because they want to get the Secret Question right. #xplap
Q2: You've received and given a gift in all these new ideas. Let the giving continue! Pick one and add a new element (or two) or smash it by mixing it with another idea that someone presented. #XPLAP
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
A1 also, and this one cracks me up -- my KIDS LOVE playing Quiet Mouse while waiting in line. It consists of me picking the quiest kid, who then gets to pick the next quietest kid. EVEN MY 5th GRADERS ASK TO PLAY IT #notagame#justtrickingyoutobequiet#xplap
a2) I had (barely) attempted to use a map as a background and have different paths through it using https://t.co/1hQBj9CEKX. Never spent enough time to get it working the way I wanted, but kinda looked like old Mario games. #xplap
A2- I could see using @Math2TheFuture’s chutes and ladders ideas as a quiz review game and adding some game items that allow you switch places with people or knock others teams down, maybe even add some more distance to a correct answer #xplap
A3: T-I-M-E. I see Ss for my classes once a month (every S in the school) and then co-teach the rest of the time. I don't really get to see anything through 100%. I give 100% to what I can do though. #xplap
Starts off like regular musical chairs but the person eliminated gets to challenge someone still in the game to a question. Whoever gets it right stays in! #xplap
A3: I struggle with the time part- I always underestimate how long it will take to create things and also implement in the class. :) I also do not have time to do all I want to do! #xplap
A3: Ego... I think the kids will find it "silly" or "stupid." Truth is, though, imagination doesn't die; we let the world take it from us as we age. Kids haven't experienced that yet. And if we can imagine it, they can imagine it 10X better. And love it just as much #xplap
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
A3 Mainly the time to do it all. I've mentioned this on a previous #XPLAP . My best ideas come on my commute to work and then I try to create as much before the first bell as possible.
A3: Implementing is where I struggle. Things work beautifully in my brain as I am planning, but they not always work out. helps when my kiddos are around to look things over before the Ss. #XPLAP
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
A3: Vocabulary is always my toughest one. I used Taboo at the start this year over the Constitution, but I think the concepts were a little too tough for the Ss. I struggle to get kids engaged with learning new vocabulary. #xplap
A3: Its hard to break habit. Sometimes it's hard to challenge myself and to step outside of the box within my math class. I teach in a student centered and group environment. It's easy to make the excuse that we dont have the time. #NoExcuses#Forthekids#XPLAP
A3 NEED HELP! As a science teacher I modify and tier lab investigations to engage all learners but it has led to several Ss choosing book and digital lessons over the hands on and minds on lab experiences, suggestions?#xplap#scitlap#ksedchat
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
A3 Sometimes Thinking of game items has been hard...still trying to get kids to do side quests! Sometimes it’s too many ideas and too little time—so much I want to do but I am being very intentional in what I actually add. #XPLAP
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
This could be a “board” played every Friday (or some other day of the week) to be an ongoing class review that still allows them to vie for position, XP, or items. #xplap
I have 1st period prep this year. Godsend for those last minute "let me see if this actually will work labs and activities I come up with during the drive. ;) #XPLAP
We did Scrabble and had the restriction that any word put on the board had to be related back to the content vocabulary. It was so much fun watching them get creative and explain their words, lol! #xplap
It was Stefanie! The guild who took the temptation even had the advantage of two members in the "Royal Ball" yet still came up empty of XP! It was a great day! #xplap
A3: TIME. Time to come up with an idea. Time to make it. Class time to do the activity. Another day of class time - because it always goes longer than you think it will... #xplap
That is very tough. I’ve struggled with time in my new roll. There are three of us who work with 8 buildings and nearly 300 teachers. I wish I had more time to build relationships with them all. #xplap
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
A3- sometimes I pull back my ideas because they are too big and I worry absolutely it sustainable game play in class. To avoid this I try and keep a record of my ideas so they are not lost and I pick them up later when I have time to process #xplap
Q3: Sometimes it's hard to admit when we struggle, but it happens...to all of us. So share something you struggle with when it comes to creating and implementing engaging activities. Then read other responses and help each other out! #XPLAP
I like that it had lots of different games that could easily be played with one deck. The free version had a limit of students I think, which unfortunately my classes were over. For what it tries to do, I haven't really seen anything like it, unless you create your own. #xplap
This is one for me too. It’s my first time working with kids who are nearly adults. I don’t want to implement something they will see as childish. #xplap
A3: I struggle with unifying it all together. I have a lot of ideas that are great separately, but have a hard time bringing it all together. I also struggle with keeping the momentum of the game going. #xplap
Absolutely. Once I gave myself permision to toss and recreate the stress became almost nill. If it works it stays (for now - until I think of something else), if not Oh well ;) #XPLAP
Build in experiences that are tiered but non-digital. When they don’t have the choice to move away from it, they’ll see what they’re missing. Also try combing digital and non-digital escape room using Forms. Forced to engage in it all. #xplap
Gotta head to bed #xplap friends! So pumped I got to hang out with y'all for a bit! Love the new ideas & followed some epic new people tonight! See y'all soon!
Mymaps are the pathways that students can take, complete with forks that lead to sidequests or other ways to access the content. Students choose, but I need to get better at pointing out that the main road is not the only road. Created using campaign cartographer. #XPLAP
Thank you @MrsCford_tweets for moderating the great gift giving Qs for tonight and thank you #xplap PLN for all the advice, suggestions, ideas ready to implement for next semester!
This is the spark I love to see in my gamified classroom! The moment that Google Classroom notification comes in to the students and the panic or excitement hits them!! #Xplap
