A1: . I'm Becky. I teach 5th great Math/Science in the greatest little school in Hampshire County. My kids are ... my drive.
A2: Hard to talk abt growth mindset w/o being intentnal abt providing opps 4 Ss to reflect & msre grwth. Set goals, fail, readjust
A2: Knowing there is really no wrong answer, just maybe a different way to get to the answer
A2 encouragement to not be afraid of failure
A2: I think students and staff alike spread their wings when they feel valued and appreciated.
A2: It looks like taking chances and trying out new things. Encouraging educators to give things a shot
A2: S spreading their wings is not an issue when it comes to tech. T spreading theirs are more difficult.
A2: right now sm ability groups to gives instruction that they need and time for them to work on their own at their pace
A2: Some need encouraging words, some a high five, & some need a card. Are we filling their buckets? If so, they can do anything.
A2: lots of hand holding with my most resistant fledglings
A2: willing and encouraging taking risks. For Ss and Ts as well.

A2: Looking at content through the Ss eyes will always encourage change and growth.
Welcome Katie! So glad you're here! Let us know if any of us can help support you!
It’s has not been perceived as a good thing in the past, but it is how we learn and grow
Hello to lurkers in our chat! We'd love to meet you. :)
Sometimes I need to remember that they are 5 & 6 years old
A2: class rule We learn from our mistakes, we recite a daily class creed, set goals and progress monitor with individual data nbs
One of my best friends, teacher at MMS, tells his kids "make your mistakes at 100%!"
A1: Mandy Flora, RESA 3, Putnam, Boone, Kanawha & Clay County teachers/educators Subject: K-12 Teaching and Learning!

Hello to lurkers in our chat! We'd love to meet you. :)
A2 I have Ss that are too afraid to hit he submit button for fear of getting it wrong
Thanks! Going to try to multitask between this and getting the kids in bed.
A2 (cont): we explain our errors as well as classmates errors respectfully & know sometimes we are coaches sometimes students
A2: growth mindset allows for Ss to explore, try, fail, work w others, teach, lead...sorry I'm late!!!
Moment of honesty: leaky faucet. I'm sure I cld watch youtube vid & lrn. Wish I was better, not priority right now.
A3: oh right in the feels and it isn't even 8:30...
A3: balancing the use of technology, not everything I do needs to be done on the iPad
A3: 2 weeks ago totally stepped up for me & modded alone while I was holding my grandmother as she finished her fight
Professional fixed mindset of mine, budget work, supplements, transfers?! Makes me want to run and hide.
A3: Personally to learn from criticism. Love + fback, not - fback
Hi everyone. Sorry for being late to the party. Homework can be a killer. Thanks
A3: Biggest fixed mindset I see is that mental illness is something that the S can control. "Get over it" attitude has to go!
A3 I have the biggest problem with accepting talent can be achieved I guess because I’m pretty sure ill never be able 2 sing well!
A3: My mind is still there. In that room. With her. My body is going through motions, but my mind and heart isn't.
A2: I tell the students not to be afraid to make mistakes. If we knew it all, we wouldn't be here in the first place.
EEEEH! I would run too :)
A3: Hmm... Making myself do the things that I know I need to do for a better mindset. I get lazy sometimes!
A3: Personally it's struggling with self doubt... ugh 😑
A3, such an interesting?, now thinking... why is that fixed? Afraid to fail, unaware of vocab, if failure = big mistake
A3 Professionally-Green Screen/Touchcast failure. Personally-3D printer woes
A3: Prof: must help T's resist avoiding challenges, giving up, and criticizing by building them up.
A3: Both personally & prof - my success is tied to their success... You can lead a horse 2 water, but U can't make 'Em drink
Hey Jodie! So glad you made it!
A3 I sometimes have a very negative inner voice. It's really not helpful. I want 2 break up. It needs 2 go live somewhere else.
sounds like you need the master
A2: self doubt and wanting to be perfect all the time.
A3: Self doubt and wanting to perfect all the time.
I feel ya. I see it as wanting the best & growth for myself. Always setting goals for myself!
Hello everyone. Better late than never
Q3, you've really got me thinking. And motivated. Budgets... I'm gonna practice the heck out of you.
I'm not going to click on like but I'll second the motion! https://t.co/vsvLkwQjh0
A3: Self doubt and wanting to perfect all the time.
agreed and that awful feeling when I’m not. Sometimes it is hard to move on from it.
I think we all suffer from those two... Thought? recognizing that though shows Growth Mindset... https://t.co/tAYN1oMImc
I'm not going to click on like but I'll second the motion! https://t.co/vsvLkwQjh0
A3: Self doubt and wanting to perfect all the time.
Idk if it's neg w/me, but I cn't fnd satisfactn n much or othrs. It's debilitating n my currnt positn
Q4 coming up in a couple minutes,
even my dog doesn’t like it when I sing!
A3: I am trying to adapt to a fluid work environment. My schedule and my circumstances are ever changing!
Japanese also have Kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with gold, making imperfections beautiful.https://t.co/zqZAX76aC2
To all those sharing, I have to say I also dislike the little inner voice that sometimes tells me I'm not good enough.
That's a bad little inner voice!
The inner voice always lingers, I am with ya on that! https://t.co/Bvu9MzuARs
To all those sharing, I have to say I also dislike the little inner voice that sometimes tells me I'm not good enough.
Katie are you working at 1 school? Or are you in a support role in multiple places?
A4: I schedule times for myself to do my own growth learning and sharing. I get more done that way!
A3: following through with what I want my own students to be doing for themselves ... Stop doubting and worrying with the what ifs
A4: Look for little joys in each day. Checking off to-do lists. Spending time with friends and family.
A4: 1. Refocusing on my PURPOSE. 2. Find others & serve them, lift them up, it always seems to come back to me when I need it most
A4 It goes back to not being afraid of trying new things. Learning and growing as you go. Lean on PLN for support.
A4: Embracing the fact that I have so much to learn & demonstrating flexibility
A4: Stay positive. Keep trying new things!
A4: Um. I admitted it on twitter.
A4 need to watch more of their helpful videos and show my Ss as well. Looking for any 3D lrn opps
A4: Im trying to remember that my Ss r only 6/7 & they need to write and create on paper and the iPad both equally
I have to make time for self care. That inner voice is fueled by stress and exhaustion.
A4- Tweak and modify. Try something new and out of your comfort zone.
A4: Remembering my “Why", learning from others, trying new things.
That's me! Yes, I have to revisit my purpose all the time. I tell myself "What if my students said that to me?"
A4: There is a win in every day. Keep looking for good & celebrate. Constantly reflect & get better. Push through the bad voice
We are lucky to have a really awesome PLN! If we could start a school, we would have the best school in… https://t.co/LL1GbRUCUe
A4 It goes back to not being afraid of trying new things. Learning and growing as you go. Lean on PLN for support.

Agreed! https://t.co/vz3viHXASF
A4: There is a win in every day. Keep looking for good & celebrate. Constantly reflect & get better. Push through the bad voice
A4: If I get one thing right a day, I have achieved a step forward.
A4: It's continuing to grow by learning through role models such as
Q4: Tough to do, but dedicating a section of time everyday for NEW learning (reading, podcast, etc) can help too.
You surround yourself with growing people and you can't help but grow. https://t.co/KSl6arCF9L
A4: It's continuing to grow by learning through role models such as

So pumped to be coming to the land of edchatters this weekend u guys r so awesome. There is magnetic attraction!
what an awesome idea, how is that going?
Whoops ... https://t.co/H4LZswBIV7
A4: not involving myself in negative talk/pow wows. Disconnecting from that and engaging in those who will help me grow
We remember that we set the pace for our classes. We try and adjust our learning environment to suit our needs in that moment.
, you are killing it! I can't keep up with all the awesome responses!
A5: Ones that aren't those rotten standardized tests! Monkey see, monkey bubble....
A5 Can I say none and vote for a Ss creation instead?
A5: ones that show growth, reflection, and goals. No matter the content. We need to be ok that we aren't the same.
A5: A Performance Based Assessment pulls you away from the traditional grading scale, and allow Ss to be assessed by actions
I talkd w/ founder recently is a grandchild of that event. Ripple effect is awsme.
Ding, Ding, Same result different paths is always good with me https://t.co/F0P5Eg0XUt
A5: ones that show growth, reflection, and goals. No matter the content. We need to be ok that we aren't the same.
A5: watching their responses to daily questions; seeing their faces when they understand; the normal paper/online tests
A5: Provide Ss with opportunities for self-assessment and also second chances!
Second chances can lead to better understanding, not even the greats get it right the first time! https://t.co/3Ll7w4i0Vx
A5: Provide Ss with opportunities for self-assessment and also second chances!
PBA provide Ss with the opportunity to showcase their talents! https://t.co/pfI21MZVOn
A5: A Performance Based Assessment pulls you away from the traditional grading scale, and allow Ss to be assessed by actions
A5 The ones that occur daily. The conversations between peers, learners & Ts. The spoken or written reflection.
A5 -- I'm all about student created portfolios. Also this teaches students to be selective and constantly revisit work.
And making the learning relevant! https://t.co/G67pErKGXL
PBA provide Ss with the opportunity to showcase their talents! https://t.co/pfI21MZVOn
A5: A Performance Based Assessment pulls you away from the traditional grading scale, and allow Ss to be assessed by actions
Don't forget to stay until the end of for a contest announcement!
A5-Authentic assessments where students know what is expected and are given support and second chances. Value creativity
A5 I love performance based assessment...teach me what you learned! Make me something!
A5: Assessments that are performance based. Let's talk about it - not just bubble in answers
Formative assessments and projects! We talk, we work and we create. We discuss and improvise and get those aha! moments.
Show me you know, don't tell me you know it! Amen https://t.co/hLVgShHx5n
A5 I love performance based assessment...teach me what you learned! Make me something!
Huge fan of second chance learning! That's how I learn best!
A5: Let Ss choose their best creations and submit that for standards based grading through use of rubrics, etc. Student choice
A5: Even w trad. assess, had stds mark on target how they think they performed. Starting place 4 convo about growth
A5: ???? Give the Ss the standard, and ask, How would you learn this and how would you show me, the T, you know it. ????
Man, all this talk of 2nd chances, retakes. Didn't know we had some fans n this commnity! Awesome
My digi classes are 95% perf. based assess. Ss take ownership of what their learning when they're responsible for a "product"
That is a huge thought, what if every T had one chance to teach a concept and done! Who would learn then? https://t.co/qaYq26VDUc
Man, we need to get on some of these chats!
You bet SBL fan!! https://t.co/oB2LSeMioO
Man, all this talk of 2nd chances, retakes. Didn't know we had some fans n this commnity! Awesome
glad you did, I had forgotten!
That's gr8! I just learned of another ally n my own staff! Jennifer runs our account & she's SBL fan!
Super late! Tuesday is dance class night! Scrolling through...
Q5: Found an old pic of mine. It is OK if you aren't there yet... what are you doing to find it? https://t.co/BEF3lKa5gj
A6: My students are Ts; I encouraged a group to learn to become Connected Educators. Can't wait to meet again this month!
A6: Reflect on culture of ur classroom. What structures do u have n place that prevent it? Grading everything?
A6 I try to be very + and encouraging. Admit when I don't know something & thank them for teaching me
A6:Giving them 110% of my support & learning with them. Let them know I'm constantly taking learning risks too!
A6: Encourage Ss to take risks. Provide scaffolding for Ss who are scared to take risks. Nudge success!
A6 Toss the idea that failure is a bad thing out the door. Encourage and support. Try to let them discover rather than tell them
Q6: VERY tricky with adults, esp teachers who are classic perfectionists. I design learning that is sustained, has authentic work.
A6: I show them that I believe in them & show them that I make mistakes 2; do things w/ them to b encouraging
A6: The follwng inhibit risk takng: gradng everything, strict deadlines, homework, more points than feedback, lack of relationship
A6: creating a good classroom culture, where risks and failures are both celebrated.
Some of the Ss are surprised when I tell them they taught me. Not sure they hear this often enough
A6: celebrate failure. Learn from everything. Reflect. Look back and see growth!
A6: Always pick them up and keep walking forward.
A6: Find a way to make the task at hand meaningful and relevant. It makes it easier to risk if you enjoy the try.
A7: Demonstrate to them what having a growth mindset can do and how powerful it can be. Share, share, share!
A7: Encourage instead of discourage
