Hello Maggie! I have always had that special connection at a very young age. My father was a pastor of a church. He needed help with the Children's dept. One thing lead to another, suddenly I became leader of all departments of our church.
Hi! Stephanie...English teacher from Bellaire & LULAC youth council leader, but just finished my Masters & principal certification! One of the reasons I decided to pursue leadership is to help educators have courageous conversations around race & equity. #HISDAdminChat

A1: The best qualities of a second-tier administrator include, but are certainly NOT limited to: kindness, perseverence, flexibility, knowledge, and a willingness to do what it takes. #HISDAdminChat
Patience, driven, committed to the work, being proactive, self-starter (possessing initiative) and supportive of your campus principal, team and staff at all times. #HISDAdminChat
A1: all the qualities that the other leaders on the team (or in the first tier) don't have; leadership teams that compliment each other tend be successful ones. #HISDAdminChat
A1. Be all in, be honest, collaborate and do the work that is needed. Push back and ask clarifying questions when you need to and be trustworthy. And so much more. #HISDAdminChat
Kristy principal at Codwell ES. For me, it was a next logical step. I always felt comfortable coaching my colleagues as a teacher so why not do it on a grander scale. #HISDAdminChat

A1: I think of the first-tier leader being especially important for external work. The second tier is vital for making sure internal work is flowing appropriately (even if not smoothly). #hisdadminchat
Jaison here to support @MaggyTovar1! I don't work in a school but I lead by using my skills, resources, and relationships to help schools and the greater community. #hisdadminchat

A1: I think a school team is strengthened when the #AP is driven, focused, observant & task oriented—a problem solver who is loyal, dedicated and intuitive. #HISDAdminChat
A1: Sharon a common vision, puts students needs first with honesty, trust and a proactive attitude. I’m so blessed to have an awesome admin team at Edison. #blessed#HISDAdminChat
A1: I think of the first-tier leader being especially important for external work. The second tier is vital for making sure internal work is flowing appropriately (even if not smoothly). #hisdadminchat
A1. I think an important quality would be power of influence. Sometimes the second tier leader has to be able to get challenging people on board in ways the principal may not be able to do #HISDAdminChat

A1: Willing to continue learning and growing. Commit to the team, teachers, scholars and parents. Seeks feedback and has instructional insights to make others around them better than when they met them. @NLPerez3 and @SNGonzalez7 have these qualities and more #HISDAdminChat
Q1: Hands-on coaching, curriculum and instruction, highly effective instructional practices, and knowing how to identify strengths in teachers to continue building capacity. Being available; having an open door policy. #HISDAdminChat
A1 - They contain many qualities, but one that stands out for me is what i now call the "Little Brother" quality. https://t.co/fCrjaI8aXj#HISDAdminChat
A1. The ability to confidently lead others in carrying out the mission & vision of the school while also being willing to listen and learn from all other stakeholders in regards to the how/why... Flexibility is a must! #HISDAdminChat
A1. 🤔 it’s almost like Ying and Yang you have to complement each other; culture builder, willingness...so many....really any quality of a 1st Tier Leader is a great 2nd Tier Leader quality! Ability to play off of each others strengths and weaknesses! 🔑
A1: I believes tier-two leader must be focused, flexible and tough-skinned. Interpersonal skills are key as they become the point person for most personnel and students. #hisdadminchat
Happy Sunday everyone! It’s Errica Dotson-Hooper, #AP at @MCWSTEM! I decided to go in to leadership to “be the change” to ensure all students receive an excellent, equitable education. I was fortunate enough to receive one & am charged with passing it on. #HISDAdminChat
I like this response because many times principals are called to the external work that the internal work still needs to have the wheels being turned by other leaders.. #HISDAdminChat
A1: I think of the first-tier leader being especially important for external work. The second tier is vital for making sure internal work is flowing appropriately (even if not smoothly). #hisdadminchat
As a second-tier leader, is it important to be coachable and learn as much as you teach. Passion and drive impact results, but a willingness to learn and adapt are crucial. #HISDAdminChat
Mimi Lam @CorneliusElem. I went back to grad school to learn more about education - always wanted to grow and not be stagnant in my field. Then I was provided the opportunity to become a leader and make a bigger impact outside of the classroom walls! #HISDAdminChat

A1 - They contain many qualities, but one that stands out for me is what i now call the "Little Brother" quality. https://t.co/fCrjaI8aXj#HISDAdminChat
A2: the relationship b/w the principal and their team is a constant tone-setter. Actions speak louder than words and everyone is always watching. #WalkTheWalk#HISDAdminChat
A2 The level of collaboration and trust between the principal and the leadership team will be reflected in the relationships amongst the teachers. #HISDAdminChat
¡Hola! Zaira Gomez, @CorneliusElem I want to have a positive impact in the community and ultimately make this world a better place for our scholars. Proud HISD product! My first time here, please be patient with me 😁 #HISD_ElemMath
A1 being able to execute and help follow through with the 1st tier leaders plan. Making sure the vision is working and being able to listen to other for tips and suggestion to make sure the purpose and vision always algin. #HISDAdminChat
A2 the relationship has to be of trust and like in a marriage we need to play like we are one. Push in the same direction and be in agreement with our vision and mission for the campus. If we don’t have this relationship then the campus won’t move along. #HISDAdminChat
It has a big impact on the culture and climate of the campus. Probably the most important in that the principal and the leadership team must be on the same page to support the campus. We must be a united front or the systems in place will not be successful. #hisdadminchat
A2: The relationship of a principal and their leadership team is vital to the school functioning in an effective manner. Trust that moves in all directions and honesty in all interactions with each other, staff, students, parents, and community. #HISDAdminChat
A2: In order for a leadership team to be effective & efficient, the #AP must be in lockstep with the campus leader. Not a carbon copy, but a cohesive unit that understands one another, supports one another & complements one another with their skills & abilities. #HISDAdminChat
A2) It's the driving force behind the vision and intended impact of the school. It sets the tone and energy for the school year #energybus#PositiveVibesOnly#HISDAdminChat
A2 They have a huge impact. They are your eyes ears and feet and mostly hear of the campus. They are the first line of defense for the teachers. #hisdadminchat
A2. Sets the tone for the entire culture of the school. The same way teachers model expectations for students, admin must model high expectations for teachers and staff and hold themselves/each other accountable for being respectful, collaborative, etc. #HISDAdminChat
Welcome to #HISDAdminChat!!! I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to host tonight! Share your name, school and why you decided to go into leadership! Don’t forget the hashtag!
A2: a GREAT impact. If the team is cohesive with one sound, one mind...the teachers and students will have clear direction as to where the bus is moving!!!! #HISDAdminChat
A2. EVERYTHING revolves around this! Your leadership team should be the ones buying into your mission first in order to mobilize everyone else #HISDAdminChat
A2: There needs to be trust. If the principal doesn't trust their leadership team or vice versa the campus will be a rough environment for everyone. #HISDAdminChat
A2. If the leadership team can't collaborate successfully and they don't appear to enjoy "the work" as a unit then that sets precedent for the rest of the campus. It all trickles down. Culture killer for sure. #HISDAdminChat
A2 - Everyone is always watching to get a sneak peak into how you treat each other. Respect, thoughtfulness, loyalty etc. It must be modeled first with the admin team and then filtered down to the rest of the campus. If we are all a family then we ALL are family #HISDAdminChat
I read an article that says you can have meaningful conflict on your team and still ne a highly effective team when everyone has the same goal. I agree, we always need to have all ideas shared and discussed to make the BEST decision for students. #HISDAdminChat
A2: In order for a leadership team to be effective & efficient, the #AP must be in lockstep with the campus leader. Not a carbon copy, but a cohesive unit that understands one another, supports one another & complements one another with their skills & abilities. #HISDAdminChat
Can't emphasize this part about cohesion enough. Can't have people going behind the principal's back to an AP so they'll get the answer they want. #HISDAdminChat
A2: This is so crucial. They must be on the same page. Air out differences behind closed doors but come out singing the same tune. It’s like co-parenting. #HISDAdminChat
A2: it has to be one vision-one voice. They need to speak the same message and be in alignment so the campus can be aligned with the mission! #HISDAdminChat
The impact is monumental and can be detrimental if everyone does not have a shared belief system united in a common goal with mutual trust and respect. The relationship should help to build collective efficacy within the school community and culture. #HISDAdminChat
Going to break the rules and answer my own question... I’d like my principal to know how thankful I am for her constant feedback, encouragement & ability to push my growth! @menxueiro#HISDAdminChat
A3: I'd like both of my Specialist to know that without their commitment and work and dedication to our staff, scholars and parents, we cannot be successful. Your work is valuable and I'll be sure to let you both know on a daily basis. #HISDAdminChat
A1: the relationship serves as an energy gauge; it’s up to us as leaders to ensure our positive energy is contagious, because everyone you encounter will feed off of your energy #hisdadminchat
A2) It sets the tone for the campus. The contribution of leadership is second in strength only to classroom instruction. And, effective leadership has the greatest impact where it is most needed - student learning. #HISDAdminChat
A1 being able to execute and help follow through with the 1st tier leaders plan. Making sure the vision is working and being able to listen to other for tips and suggestion to make sure the purpose and vision always algin. #HISDAdminChat
A2. It could mean harmony or volcanic eruptions! Everyone is always watching and if you have a connected relationship with your principal people will see that you are on the same page. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I'd like both of my Specialist to know that without their commitment and work and dedication to our staff, scholars and parents, we cannot be successful. Your work is valuable and I'll be sure to let you both know on a daily basis. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I want my leadership team to know that I could NOT do what we do without their help, support and love! You are so special to me and I pray for you every night! Keep growing with ME! #HISDAdminChat
Hello everyone! I’m Mario Sandoval, Assistant Principal @SouthmaydES. Thank you @MaggyTovar1 for the invitation for tonight chat. I’m in leadership to serve our community and to make sure our scholars achieve their full potential!!! #HISDAdminChat
A3: I’d like my principal to know that I have a lot of experience in working with our children and to trust that I am and will continue to do whatever it takes to be the best leader for our students and staff. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I’d like my principal (and leadership team) to know that I appreciate how he has (they have) supported me and that I am open and want to continue growing and getting better! Starting our FIFTH school year with a steady leadership team! #HISDAdminChat
A3: I'd like all of the school leaders to know that you have people in the community fighting for you. Even if some of us are stupid sometimes. #HISDAdminChat
I’d like my principal to know that I’m dedicated, here to support and that I’m mirroring and setting the example for what I want and expect in my leadership team once I’m a building principal. The work we do is not taken lightly. #HISDAdminChat
Going to break the rules and answer my own question... I’d like my principal to know how thankful I am for her constant feedback, encouragement & ability to push my growth! @menxueiro#HISDAdminChat
A2: "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." --Ronald Reagan
Nothing can we accomplished without building bonds of trust. Leaders navigate the bus. #HISDAdminChat
A3 I want my leadership team to know that they are true leaders and they are the backbone of the campus. Without their dedication our school what not be the special place it is for our kids, families and teacher. They are trusted and appreciated. I love our team!
I’d like my Principal to know how Thankful I am for her. She trusts me to bring my own ideas and gives me the encouragement to implement them! I feel extremely grateful to have her in my life. @TanglewoodMS#hisdadminchat
I’d like my principal to know that I’m dedicated, here to support and that I’m mirroring and setting the example for what I want and expect in my leadership team once I’m a building principal. The work we do is not taken lightly. #HISDAdminChat
Hello, Shanda Walker, AP of J.R. Reynolds. The best qualities of a Tier 2 Leader are flexibility and clarity of knowing thei job description, which in my opinion is to undergird the principal as he/she leads the school and assist in whatever it takes to fulfill the vision.
A3) I would like for my principality know that he is a good listener, an excellent collaborator, a brilliant problem solver, have excellent communication skills, and is caring leader. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I would like @lilly_rincon and @marinasmath know that I wouldn’t want to do the work @JeffersonES2 without them and I’m super excited for what we are going to do this year. One vision, one goal, it’s time! #HISDAdminChat
A3. I’d like my principals to know that I am grateful for their mentorship...I would not be who I am without leaders like @LiraSerg, @cilya_j, and @m_squaredBHS who took the time to invest in me & always model the importance of being a truly good person. #HISDAdminChat
A2: "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." --Ronald Reagan

A3: I’d like my leadership team to know that I value their work and commitment, and I trust them to do what is morally right for our students to experience success #HISDAdminChat
A2 The relationship between the principal and the assistant principals are vital to the success of the school as it is nescsarry to carry out the campus vision with fidelity. Both students and staff 👀for this. #HISDAdminChat
A3. I’d like my principals to know that I am grateful for their mentorship...I would not be who I am without leaders like @LiraSerg, @cilya_j, and @m_squaredBHS who took the time to invest in me & always model the importance of being a truly good person. #HISDAdminChat
I'd like my principal @LBilboErvin to know that I have her back, we're in the work together, I appreciate every "when you get your own school..." chat we've had, and that our kids will be living their best lives this year! #lifeguardonduty#HISDAdminChat
To me, this is an important factor. The ideals of the vision must be embraced and executed accordingly. If we are in the business of educating students, of course they come first; however, we must remember those individuals who work that front line, our awesome teachers!
A3. I would like @m_squaredBHS and all the AP's at @BellaireHigh to know that I appreciate their leadership and all the amazing things that they do that help our kids find success! #HISDAdminChat
A3: I'd like my principal to know that education is my passion. I want nothing more than our school to be successful. And I've fully bought into the vision. #HISDAdminChat
Shanda Walker is here!! I am so excited to join tonight! I decided to go into leadership because I knew I could impact more lives from this vantage point. My why is to change the negative trajectory of my scholars in urban areas before they end up a statistic. #HISDAdminChat
The relationship between the principal and the admin team sets the standard for how the rest of the campus will follow. When the principal and his/her team are a “truly” united front and they allow nothing to come and bring dissension between them the staff notices.
#HISDAdminChat I would like to give these flowers to my sister...@MaggyTovar1! You did an outstanding job giving us a space to express ourselves! Love you!!! #DoganNation
That’s right! So often folks seek to sabotage with their words and actions just to prove their right. Voice your disagreement behind closed doors and then actively suppose the chosen plan.
The principal is the “driver”, and has to build relationships with the leadership team and effectively communicate the vision/goals for the campus. As the saying goes- If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. #HISDAdminChat
A3: I'd like my Team to know that I'm glad to be apart of such an amazing team and great things are going to happen this year! #DoganNation#HISDAdminChat
I’d like my Principal to know that I have her back, I’m committed to her vision and goals for the campus and that I appreciate the fact that she will never let me settle for being just a “good” administrator. #HISDAdminChat
A2: I believe it has a tremendous impact which can affect the campus negatively or positively. Our campuses feed off the energy of its leaders. #HISDAdminChat
A2: I believe that a principal should understand that a team must comprehend what the end goal is. Then the team will collaborate to meet that goal. Trust is imperative in order for the positive impact to come to fruition. #HISDAdminChat
#HISDAdminChat I would like to give these flowers to my sister...@MaggyTovar1! You did an outstanding job giving us a space to express ourselves! Love you!!! #DoganNation

A3. I’d like my principal to know that I have her back and that I am so happy to be apart of a SUPER collaborative team! @AmyPoerschke Thanks for the opportunity to learn! I’m excited for a great school year! #HISDAdminChat
I’d like my principal @AngelWilson36 to know that I’m forever grateful for allowing me to take this joyful ride with her. Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to continue to grow as a leader! I admire & ❤️ you! 🤗 #MovingfromGOODtoGREAT#HISDAdminChat
#HISDAdminChat Your secondary teachers deserve this day of #RapidLiteracy in Houston.
Hope they can join us on Oct 4th!
Balanced Literacy made practical for our MS & HS classrooms. https://t.co/ldOsVtQGrf
A2: The entire school-community is watching 👀 you from the time you drive up to the time you leave the campus. Everyone will know if there is any dysfunction within your team. The relationship you have with your leadership team can/will make you or break you. #HISDAdminChat
I’d like my Leadership Team to know that this journey has been more than I could have ever expected. I am humbled to serve alongside such greatness. I learn from all of you every day. Your kind-heartedness, patience, humility, and diligence inspires me. This is OUR year!
I’d like my principal to know that I am here to pull up my sleeves and get the work done! To uplift her as she bares the visible and invisible pressures of the job. As long as I am around she will always shine!! Together...Onward and Upward!! @RenesiahaCarter
I’d like to say thank you for believing in me as a leader even when I didn’t initially see it in myself. She continually pushes me to the next level. #levelup#HISDAdminChat
