#NVedchat is dedicated to increasing communication and collaboration of education related topics in the State of Nevada. Originally, created by Mr. Snehal Bhakta.
Hi my name is Veronica and I’m a pre-service teacher in Oklahoma! I really like eating ice cream with cookies any time of the year but esp when it’s too cold to actually enjoy it #NVedchat
A1: I think love is important in everything. Love for your job, love for your students... it drives the way you teach and eventually the way it impacts the people you teach #NVedchat
R1: I think love/passsion is what we all have for our profession and the students we serve. It is that passion that drives us to make improvements daily to engage our students in learning. #NVedchat
A1: Education is all about love. If you don't love your students, and if you don't love what you do, you're never going to be happy doing it! #NVedchat
A1: If you don’t “love” what you do and “love” your students, they will know it. If you put in 110% your students will do the same. #happyteacher#NVedchat#lovemyjob
A1 Love is the foundation of our work! Love for the work keeps us on a path of improvement, and for our students is essential to creating
the environment they need to take risks. #NVedchat
@NevadaEdChat A1: I think you have to have a love for anything that you are doing to be successful at it. You also have to have a love for your students to be truly invested in seeing them succeed. #nvedchat
A1-Love motivates us to do a better job each and every day so that we reach every students....at least for me it does.
Also, it holds us accountable to making sure students have a valued and cherished place to learn + safe. #NVedchat
Q2-Some would say educators "love" being in control...
...but, how do you embrace the disruptors, troublemakers, etc.. and still make them feel valued or apart of the class or learning experience? #NVedchat
R2: sometimes it is important to connect with them in one way or another. It is talking their language, music, interest. It is connecting to them and showing you care. #NVedchat
Q2-Some would say educators "love" being in control...

I love this! I couldn't have put it better myself. If we don't have any sort of passion for the teaching profession or the reason we do it (students), then we aren't doing our job well enough!
A2: #NVedchat I tell them I love them all and care about them. I remind them though if they cause disruptions and make unwise choices there will be consequences for disrupting learning. Sometimes you have to ignore things too. Depends what is going on.
A2: we have to remember that people show love differently, even little ones. So we need to be patient and help them learn how to show love even if it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. #NVedchat
A2 I think one of the best ways to handle this is to incorporate lesson plans that allow students to be vocal in class. A lot of times students might not feel heard or acknowledged so I really want to have discussion elements within my future SS classes #NVedchat
Love for my students and their successes is what keeps me motivated. I love to challenge them and love it even more when the find success within those challenges. #NVEdChat
A2: In my experience, the so-called "troublemakers" are often those who feel stagnant in your classroom; if you take their input into consideration and come up with activities that allow them to expend excess energy, your classroom might very well run smoother! #NVedchat
Q2-Some would say educators "love" being in control...
...but, how do you embrace the disruptors, troublemakers, etc.. and still make them feel valued or apart of the class or learning experience? #NVedchat
A2: I don’t know that I would say teachers love being in control. I would say love being a guide, let the students take some of the control and we help them along. This can also help with some of those problematic students. #nvedchat
A2: Don’t really have troublemakers at my current school, but I have a few that like to talk. I make sure they are allowed to “tell their story” then we move on. Sometimes what they say even adds to the lesson. #NVedchat

A1: loving what you do always shows through in your lessons and interactions. Working with kids and seeing their sparks makes me love what i do all the more. #nvedchat
A2 Those are the ones that need the extra loving! Making all students feel valued is a choice we make daily, but the onus is on teachers for putting the extra effort in for the "troublemakers." Often they're not "bad" at all but just need something different from you. #NVedchat
R2: I can't *make* them do anything, so my first thing is to stay out of power struggles. If they know I'm not gonna call them out in public, I've got a decent chance of them being willing to make an effort to not act out in public. Then we can go from there. #NVEdChat

Q3-Love sometimes is unspoken, however, we should make sure all our students voices are heard so they feel loved in their own way.
How can we listen 'better' for students so that they listen 'better' for us? (everyone hears the love!) #NVedchat
a3) for me, I have to remember to be quiet to hear... when I ask how students are doing, and wait for an answer.. it is me showing in one way I care to be quiet to give them opportunity to share. #nvedchat

A3: my students email me often to ask questions or give feedback. I think that if they know I’m willing to listen and meet them halfway then they are willing to put in the work. #NVEdChat

A2-We have to make sure all of our students' experiences are engaged, powerful, inspiring, and most of all...making them feel important...no matter if it is someone that is disruptive or not.
We are teachers to ALL STUDENTS PERIOD. #NVedchat

A3: sometimes I make a point to explain that what I expect out of my students is no less than I expect from myself. It helps build mutual respect between us. #nvedchat
A3: #NVedchat maintain eye contact. Let them talk and truly listen. Remind them also to be respectful. Try to remind that things at home spill over to the classroom too.
@NevadaEdChat A3: The biggest part of listening is to actually let people talk. Don’t necessarily listen to respond, just lend them you’re ear and often that’s all that is needed to feel appreciated and loved. #nvedchat
R3: establishing clear lines of communication and being available 24/7 for our students is useful. I know a lot of us want to disconnect and be with our families; however, my students are part of my family and I am there for them. #NVedchat
A3-I always allowed my students to take control of the class everyday. It was their time...only one condition...everyone had a choice, voice, or needed to be engaged.
They actually modelled for me how I needed to be a better educator for them. Pretty powerful! #NVedchat

This is great advice! I think that if we make sure our students feel like we're willing to listen, then they'll be a lot more willing to show us that same respect. #NVedchat
A3 I think a good way to let them know you’re actually listening to them is by keeping consistent on your actions. We can’t expect our students to think we have an open mind if we show them otherwise #NVedchat
Final Question
Q4-Give someone out there a S/O of some love!
Brother. Sister. Mom. Dad. Significant Other. Colleague. Neighbor. Whoever!
Everyone needs a little or lot of love in their life!
#NVedchat
A3 I think students hear us when we give them time to talk & ask questions, teacher need to wait, remember it’s ok for students to teach each other, that produces #confidence which is better than any lecture you could give #NVEdChat#StudentVoice

Wow, this is a really great idea! So often, it seems like teachers don't give their students a say in how they run their classroom. Honestly, I would love to do this once I get to have a classroom of my own! #NVedchat

Too many to name. But, big ups to my oldest son who this week handled a situation on his first call on his first night on patrol as an MP with the kind of cool and de-escalation skills I want to have in class daily. #nvedchat
Just wanted to give a shoutout to all my formers teachers!
Especially those who put of with this trouble maker and never, ever let me quit on myself.
You all ROCK! (even if you don't use twitter)
