Had few days off last week I was supposed to be moving but it got delayed for three weeks so I'm amongst boxes!

yeah it's a bit weird our holidays are usually Easter holidays but we're a week late!

yeah when we finally get in new house we'll be happy the solicitors messed up and forgot to ask for money!

oh yes the first day back after a holiday is always the worst!

haaa I am the same way! Managed to be asleep before 1AM last night so pretty good! The week before was up til 2AM!!

only time we close is Christmas and new year for two weeks then we get three other weeks to choose.

wow thats different, I have got 2 weeks off now, then other odd holidays like mayday and may half term too

I have 2 weeks off, then back for 6 I think it is, off for one and finish with a 7 week block

yes I do! It's tough sometimes but then our numbers are much smaller so we plan trips

I enjoy the summer session, our data gets submitted way before the end of term so we have lots of fun

I can't believe that!! I know higher poverty gets vacation cut while the rich get longer vacations

No one else has that! No other country I've ever seen at least!

well we kind of don't unless you book holidays as we have wraparound care and holiday club

Student Behaviors- comment ça va ?

So you are all around care! We call it "daycare" here in US!

this is for sure a tricky term as the kids begin to realise they won't be here soon so start to push boundaries

Yes! They start to get upset, worry about next year! Have to remind that a week is long and there's LOTS of weeks!

yeah we also provide the children's free childcare from the government with added on extras too!

I like this term as the kids finally 'get it' behaviour wise- we all know expectation and enjoy each other I find

exactly it's difficult for them as they don't really understand what's going to happen when they leave.

That's very nice!! US needs to do more to support young families! Parents go broke for school costs while working!

It's my favorite too!! Can "cruise" a bit now vs every five seconds redirecting behavior!

Q2 What strategies have worked the best to promote students' responsibility for self?

For me, I find the natural consequences route usually takes care of it- but I have 1 this year..... :)

well our costs are still very high they only get 15 hours free a week. So still could be a lot of money

Interesting- hmmm- 15 hours free isn't much to go on! Wow! Are there plans to strengthen that or leave as is?

I like to give children responsibility when tidying up after they have played which gives them respect too

True!! Though I am in the "guilt them into stage" haaa "I guess everyone forgot how to clean" Immediately to it! :)

Promoting responsibility for self is important for when children leave us it gives them boundaries and teaches respect for all

yes we do this sometimes haha! Tidy up time can be carnage sometimes

as far as I'm aware It's just Scotland yes we do have good leaders and lots of influential people 1/2

Re the reading q- I only recently found out I am actually a Year 1 teacher vs Reception- all this time thought different! haha

we find many of our older children are keen to begin understanding letters and initial reading ie their name

So the reading question is a bit more well placed on a slightly older group as that pressure begins a bit more!

our children are not expected to be reading before primary one when they would be 5 going on 6

yes it's lovely when we see lots of little bits of paper around with children practicing their letters such a milestone!

Yes! I am primary 1! So there's this push at the end to meet that reading benchmark

The exp for my R class (4's&5's) is they read and understand simple sentences and use phonic knowledge to decode!
