It's my vision...Caravaaaaaan across KS. :) The epic roadtrip together is where the magic is at. :)
Welcome to So great to have you! Loved hearing you at a few months ago!
YAY!! Happy to see you here.
I think we need a minute to appreciate this!
Retired PBL & curr director
Hey Traci here from Andover.
We are here to help if needed! 😊 https://t.co/m4jnPh2LJs
Gwen, 5th grade in Ellinwood. Still figuring out this twitter thing, so responses may be limited, but excited to be here!
A1. Does this show us what the Ss actually know or what they can regurgitate on a test?
Gwen! There's nothing you can do 'wrong' in Just find a tweet, person, topic and respond however you want!
I am so in! It would be amazing! We need to fill a van!
Hello, Traci! Happy Monday!
A1) when we give 0s, grades dont accurately reflect a S's learning. But the question begs, how do we measure what a S doesn't do?
A1) I wasn't expecting that image...It very blinding.
This image emphasizes the problem of 0s in traditional grades. There has to be a better way to provide kids feedback.
Do you two need a minute lol
Gotta love it when the kids help tweet! Try again: Dani from Phillipsburg. HS Science.
A1: the end result doesn't always show the whole picture & grades don't always equal growth/learning/knowledge
A1 no excuse for zeros, some reteach and retest seems in order
Ashley from Ellinwood, 3rd grade teacher. Not completely sure what to expect but excited to be apart of it!
A1 the numbers aren't showing what concepts/skills the S knows
Mark Dir. of Distance Learning w/ trying to & watch .
A1: At least the average class knowledge is consistent?!?!1 I would say supplements are needed some where!
Agreed! How do they grow from feedback if this is what they're getting?
A1: Looks so generic....cookie cutter and clearly students are being taught mediocracy is ok...I mean a whole class of C ave. 😱
So glad the one and only is here on chatting w/us. Your presence is so appreciated!
So glad the one and only is here on chatting w/us. Your presence is so appreciated!
A1: I feel like this is a math quiz...a brain teaser that I'm supposed to figure out. Makes my brain hurt. Lol.
Agreed! I would question the validity of test questions and check ins being given!
A1: Looks like none of these students will be finding success here...
A1. It seems grades do more to divide students. It's how we get them to do what we want
A1: this makes me want to draw a line in the sand and say "Zeros shouldn't be allowed" it's a cop-out by both to put a 0
A1 Concerning that one test a unit determines a grade. Where is application? Where is formative assessment…and the list goes on
Hey … with that first question all I could think with was… “Wow! It just got real, real quick!”
I hate 0's about as much as I hate averages in terms of grades.
Hey there! Happy to "see" you here tonight -- since I never see you during the day. ;)
& regurgitate well enough to squeak by w a C average. C's are ok..but we should have Ss striving for more https://t.co/ULRIjGdiSg
A1. Does this show us what the Ss actually know or what they can regurgitate on a test?
Jason Johnson from consultant jumping in a bit late
Hi Mark! Good luck multi-tasking… I was going to work and tweet, but so far only tweeting lol
A1: as a teacher that tells me nothing
A1 I was wondering if the units were different topics and Ss excelled in areas they are interested in
Welcome! I have been to Greenbush! also multitasking & refreshing
People should get together and chat… so much better
This image also makes me even more persuaded to try standards based grading.
Took the words right out of my mouth! https://t.co/WrciWcHlJA
This image also makes me even more persuaded to try standards based grading.
A1: for standard based grading, we don't use averages. Doesn't show the whole picture
W need more info on data than just the quick look.. Ss info and personal bios… etc…. give more https://t.co/hHKz9FJOyG
A1: I feel like this is a math quiz...a brain teaser that I'm supposed to figure out. Makes my brain hurt. Lol.
Great question… Hadn’t thought of that… Interest can play quite the roll in engagement
We do standard based grade card...(1st grade) love it!
I'm adding US to this growing Twitter list--"KS EDUCATORS." Subscribe & you can interact w/KS educators! https://t.co/tRuIRN2lS4
The problem is trying to marry standards based grading with our traditional system
Same! Wouldn't have it any other way
A1 grades on work ethic versus mastery...also shows how skewed grades can be by one "bad day"
what if T works to get work from S, and S doesn't follow thru? (I agree with u BTW, just a thought). How do we fix this?
How are you? We still haven’t gotten together and I haven’t talked to you in forever!!
Why let a number define a kid?! Test anxiety seems to be running rampid in that class! https://t.co/KFNOoZVPeg
Took the words right out of my mouth! https://t.co/WrciWcHlJA
This image also makes me even more persuaded to try standards based grading.
Would be helpful, had those units had labels. I agree! https://t.co/i5QxgU5158
A1 I was wondering if the units were different topics and Ss excelled in areas they are interested in
A1 I would also add the image made me plain sad
. Standards based grading is far for telling and helpful for students.
Curious how standards based grading works...
no easy task indeed. Total overhaul.
A1) Ss 1 & 4 show continuous improvement, and many external factors exist
Hi Megan!! Great to see you again.
Ann 1st grade teacher Frontenac
A1-Looks like they have an average understanding percentage wise, but severely lack knowledge of topics.
A2: "Is a good student one who learns well or one who conforms?" --don't know who I stole that from but it's fitting
A1: The problem is w/relying heavily on grades. Makes us mad looking at the image because little else but grades seem to matter.
A2. Yes! Why are we trying to make all Ss fit into this same mold. What are we trying to achieve?
1/2 . that's always tough. I think it's mental. When students see a 0, they say why try.
we use ...lots of work, but really great picture of what student knows...its mastered or it's not
A2 Sad, but motivating as a T, how can stop this from happening?
A2: We make Ss conform to what we expect and take away all creativity and new ideas making them fit the answers in the box
A2 That education needs to change to embrace differences, encourage free thinking, & promote the need of 21st century life skills
A2: so true but unfortunately it goes even deeper than that because some of our Ss don't even become storm troopers. Talent lost
A2: This image is so sad and discouraging. It should be our constant goal to chat our "traditional education."
A2: cookie cutter education?
A2: It makes me think of Holocaust to history : as practice in ed. Not as extreme, but as detrimental. https://t.co/SmSKkm7cRx
Very fitting! https://t.co/4b8GCmyXsn
A2: "Is a good student one who learns well or one who conforms?" --don't know who I stole that from but it's fitting
A2: school shld bring out whatever strengths a student has & making productive citizens; but it shouldn't look the same for every1
2/2 with SBG and rubrics, the grade/learning is in the control of the Ss. They earn their grade, it's not given.
A2: makes me sad, but also give me a challenge to change this outcome in my class. My Ss will NOT become clones of the system!
Q1: My mind keeps running back to all of the external factors that I know occured here
A2: its sad but we teach like all ss are the same and going on the same journey. Easier in 1st grade to keep in individualized
A2)traditional model of school lacks personalization. However, I think a lot of Ts are working hard to address this in their class
Need a personalized approach
A2 how sad, a little frightening. No child left behind.......but what did they become? Glad we have moved on, and meet like this.
So true, it's plain sickening when you think about it! https://t.co/oaw3vbB6aO
A2. Yes! Why are we trying to make all Ss fit into this same mold. What are we trying to achieve?
A2 standardized tests don't measure the unique learners and what they can do but we have lost some of that
We need to support teachers like who are willing to try new things to improve our system!
Couldn't have said it better.
I feel like you are saying the right intention is sometimes there but the process is faulted! I can totally see that!
Helps to understand it is happening & work together to make change so it doesn't https://t.co/FZIK8786TS
A2 Sad, but motivating as a T, how can stop this from happening?
Fourth grade teacher from Eudora, KS - looking forward to just learning from everyone tonight
My mind didn’t go there, but what you said is so sad to think of and such a powerful truth!
Wow! Thanks! Appreciate the shout out!
A2-Ts come in as individuals but forced to teach same thing, same way, same day in order to be a team player.
Joining in a little late. Got absorbed in my Netflix.
A2: are those student storm troopers or teacher storm troopers? side
Check out Hacking Assessment by (free on Kindle Umlimited). I just got it. :)
A1) Ss come to school w/ but trained = squelched opportunity
You hear this tossed around all the time at staff meetings! “This is not a cookie cutter education…” https://t.co/nqAMiDB87L
A2: cookie cutter education?
True. Remembering all students are different with different needs to be successful is imperative https://t.co/yTB9ruWsvQ
A2: so true but unfortunately it goes even deeper than that because some of our Ss don't even become storm troopers. Talent lost
How do you all integrate student diversity and interests into your teaching?
Welcome Shannon! Glad you are joining us
A2: to keep that from happening Ts need both time and resources.
A2: my justification for going w/ . I love when students have choice. Schools aren't factories.
A2: striving for personalization...really hard work!! But worth it.
Better late than never :) Welcome
Boom!! Having a common goal but understanding those goals are individualized. https://t.co/UeKY83FCRi
A2: school shld bring out whatever strengths a student has & making productive citizens; but it shouldn't look the same for every1
A2: Positive spin: Take self-absorbed humans and send them all out on one mission - to change the world for the better.
What about individualized teacher preparation?
A2- Education as a whole isn't prescriptive or flexible enough to meet the needs of the students....
Yet we have to give standardized testing which is the definition of cookie cutter!
Had not thought about this perspective but it is so true. A storm trooper can be an honor but some don’t make it..
, choice when making projects. https://t.co/wv9vTfHIum
How do you all integrate student diversity and interests into your teaching?
A2 - this is why is so important. Creativity should be encouraged so when Ss encounter different problems they solve them!
A2: It's a good reminder that our students are unique people with unique needs
In all elem grades? Thanks for sharing! https://t.co/uViTLOvi6q
We do standard based grade card...(1st grade) love it!
offering choice on projects, building relationships knowing what ss like
What's hard for me in true personalized Ed w no classes & just resources is that I believe a good T has a huge impact on S success
yes! College prep needs to change just as much as we are expected to
True, but Twitter is such a resource for individualized professional development https://t.co/NiyWIWeRSY
What about individualized teacher preparation?
BAM!! Thank God every day I don't work in a district that cookie cutters it for me!! https://t.co/U3kX4EejWX
A2: are those student storm troopers or teacher storm troopers? side
Student choice, PBL, Genius Hour, student led activities! Many options!
Great way to look at what appears to be a negative and turn it into a positive.
"bought" it yesterday! #3 on my list!
A2: the jobs of "yesterday" required a cookie-cutter worker. The jobs of "tomorrow" require thinkers.
Love all the StarWars references! Agreed. It’s the tenting on the masks and the training we are given…
Indeed!! We are all sacred souls and loveable learners who need freedom and trust to explore our worlds!
Love this! https://t.co/zYzUjmMkVO
Indeed!! We are all sacred souls and loveable learners who need freedom and trust to explore our worlds!
A3: The blog post that inspired this sketchnote is one of my faves; I share it with everyone!!
Frustration: differentiating for your students...then they all take the same darn standardized test
A3: It's our job to prepare our Ss for the future - why not use the tools that they best understand!
A3: I was just talking about the collaboration vs cheating part today. When I need help at work, I ask! https://t.co/vXLVK4suyX
A3 The reminder 21st century learns need to learn how to creatively think & problem solve...they also need to learn soft skills
A3) LOVE Collaborating is not CHEATING!
A3. This graphic is so realistic! Love and her thoughts on education!
A3 Lots of the bubbles remind me why some rules at school are just silly!
If we don't teach kids HOW to is tech for their life, they will learn it elsewhere!
A3)I think for Ss to do those effectively, they need to be taught how.Sifting through the interwebs for meaningful info is a skill
So true! Why would we create an atmosphere and mind set that doesn't encourage collaboration
A3: I love to reference this in class sometimes. As Ss become more independent I allow more!
Just like the kids! In Ts have autonomy to create units, teach, dream. Assessment=public showcase. https://t.co/w9UiVzEJfF
A2-Ts come in as individuals but forced to teach same thing, same way, same day in order to be a team player.
A3: I struggle w/this sometimes. "Real world" is for adults that have basic understandings in our core areas, not 10 year olds.
sometimes you have to break the box before you can teach without it
Same here! We are constantly talking about the difference. I hardly ever make decisions without talking them out!
True! Proper tech use need to start in Kindergarten. https://t.co/Om5Y9lcOZH
If we don't teach kids HOW to is tech for their life, they will learn it elsewhere!
A3: this is why soft skills are so important! Knowledge is easy to find but what/how we do with that knowledge isn't easy
A3: The times...they are a changin'...QUICKLY! As educators we need to keep and prepare students for "their future" not "ours"
If we don't teach kids HOW to use tech for their life, they will learn it elsewhere!
A3: love to let kids listen to music & always tell them to Google the answer! But have to admit I am anti-cell phone in schools
A3 LOVE the collaboration is not cheating. I always thought it was cheating!
. and that way will most likely be wrong.
A3: And when we use this avenue for their education they're a lot more invested and engaged!
A3 Enjoying learning to take my required concepts and twisting into questions that make kids think, strategize, and collaborate.
A3: The reality of the world Ss comes through our doors w/every day and the one we must prepare Ss for https://t.co/oEkpD8iubS
A3: We also know that adolescent brains are different. We also know that people can't really multitask like we say we can.
I always use google in front of my class if I don't know an answer!
A3: saw so much of this today on a school visit. Kids learning at own pace.
I couldn't agree more! https://t.co/xtzhyEOnK4
A3: this is why soft skills are so important! Knowledge is easy to find but what/how we do with that knowledge isn't easy
We do lots of collab. in my room. Only downside is they don't understand why they can't talk during a test. Thoughts?
Amen! We need to learn right along with them. https://t.co/lbBSmQ58e6
A3: The times...they are a changin'...QUICKLY! As educators we need to keep and prepare students for "their future" not "ours"
Yes, why they need teachers as supporters and facilitators. Let go of control and give Ss opportunity to rise
. Agreed! There is a lot of "soft skill" value there that needs digital citizenship education.
A3: 1 thing I worry about re:this image is schools BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK the internet & kids never learn how to use it appropriately
We have to show them how to effectively use the tech and have a tech purpose not just a tech presence!
A3-Now is the real world for our kids.
A3) this graphic makes the case for digital citizenship. How can we strategically teach it in our lessons, not a separate subject?
Agree! Follow . Her passion/drive inspire me. Her tweets are helpful, her talk is real. https://t.co/PX1WYph3vm
A3. This graphic is so realistic! Love and her thoughts on education!
So many still think collaboration is cheating. That is part of the battle with cooperative learning! https://t.co/1cYsB5plS4
A3 LOVE the collaboration is not cheating. I always thought it was cheating!
Ever thought of creating a collaborative test? Or no test at all, using performance assessments? https://t.co/caREg6V8J4
We do lots of collab. in my room. Only downside is they don't understand why they can't talk during a test. Thoughts?
A3: Things educators should think about often and consider as they structure their classroom https://t.co/K6SLgiI0xm
A3: I love to bring up examples from. If I choose to socialize on my plan time, I have to take work home. Same goes for Ss
Many ways to assess? We must work away from HSTesting
There is a need! https://t.co/c6wIIvMATD
A3: saw so much of this today on a school visit. Kids learning at own pace.
Plus she is so nice to answer any questions you have. By helping me, she has helped my whole school.
A3: High % of Ss see tech with tunnel vision. They grew up with it and they don't get excited about new ED tech resources
How many adults can't collaborate or use google in our jobs?
I fight with school filters everyday If we can't teach them responsible use who will
we need to either learn with our students and keep up with the change or get off the train Bc Ed is changing.. And fast!
I do think it's important to teach the difference between collaboration and cheating -such a fine line
Right on target! Ss eventually know what they are missing & disengage from access b/c they know there is none
Epic in Liberty. PBL school. Wow!
True! What's important know is those who know want a rep. website & what info sites shouldn't be trusted https://t.co/xgzgpVqko7
How many adults can't collaborate or use google in our jobs?
So true! I think school districts in an effort to protect Ss can actually harm their learning of using tech
Show Ss every day that you are a learner by letting them know that you don’t know all the As:look ‘em up https://t.co/Qwlcrs8qLm
we need to either learn with our students and keep up with the change or get off the train Bc Ed is changing.. And fast!
A4: I think ss need teaching geeks who will be flexible to do what each students needs to be successful
A4: I love this! Stealing it to put on my door and share at our next ProfDev day!
. to take it a step further, it should be promoted by the culture of the school as 1:1 & BYOD become more common
So true. Not doing your part, or copying off of others papers verses sharing the writing and takes….
A4: You have to be passionate about teaching children first and foremost! We can teach you how to use the tech tools.
A4: Tech is the door to our Ss future, and all Ts are capable of using it - they just have to be will to try something new.
A4: how can we as teachers use the education strategies we know and love to incorporate tech. Awesome!
A4: I believe we teacher geeks that aren't afraid to let their Ss be the Tech geeks
A4: HA I consider myself tech geek 1st & teacher 2nd😍 But rly, important to think about WHY ur using tech & not use it just b/c
. in my world, collaboration is part of the culture. We don't work in bubbles. We work together.
Powerful! always thought of myself as a tech geek but may be the opposite!
A4)the emphasis should always be on pedagogy. Tech is a fantastic tool that def should be utilized, but can't replace a great T
Love this thought Well said! https://t.co/bb98t8AJf6
A4: I think ss need teaching geeks who will be flexible to do what each students needs to be successful
Amen! The ed world is about to turn UPSIDE DOWN. :) Lol I see you're already onto that! https://t.co/84Bq08p54p
we need to either learn with our students and keep up with the change or get off the train Bc Ed is changing.. And fast!
Yes! I love when the "tech geeks" in my class teach the "teacher geek" something new! https://t.co/OIZ1LuEQBj
A4: I believe we teacher geeks that aren't afraid to let their Ss be the Tech geeks
A4 relationship geeks vs any other geek https://t.co/oorZcaHncu
A4: You have to be passionate about teaching children first and foremost! We can teach you how to use the tech tools.
A4: focus on the CAN USE tech--have had teachers say "oh I'm not tech savvy" that's not an acceptable answer anymore!
Exactly! PD and modeling can teach a teacher how to use tech in the classroom…Have to love teaching first
A4:Just because you know cool tech does not mean it is meaningful or productive to all lessons / Ss https://t.co/ohowIci6XZ
Hello Alice!! Talking about you on . :)
YES! https://t.co/9hku356pRm
A4: focus on the CAN USE tech--have had teachers say "oh I'm not tech savvy" that's not an acceptable answer anymore!
A4: Yep, I'm passionate about teaching AND tech. I teach students first, content and tech come later....
Ss learn so much from Google on their own!We should help them apply learning to create/extend knowledge. https://t.co/GxubohkV8T
A4-The Teaching Geek knows how to tap into the Tech Geek side to create meaningful experiences.
A4: how can the tech support my my classroom, not how can my classroom use tech. Tech is a tool, not the teacher!
That totally made me laugh out loud in real life, but it is so true!
A4 I worry we want Ts to be geeks in everything. Each T has their own strength
A4: one needs to keep tech savvy to keep up with life in general
A4- Tech integration is a mindset...not a skill set.
A4 Yes!! We can all be "tech savvy" if we want to be!
I totally agree how can it enhance or allow student to extend in learning, not how can I stick some tech into my day
A4 -Teaching geeks can't be afraid of the tech. Embrace the strengths of Students, allow them the opportunity to use it
WOW! What fantastic points being made tonight! My brain is filling up so fast! : )
Yes, It is a part of daily life and should look like that in school!
A4: many times have told students to find an app that works for them in order to get the job done
Like the ditto machine some of my worksheets from elementary school were copied on lol
Embracing Tech must be modeled from schl leaders all levels, incl supts/principals! https://t.co/diZMW4u44M
A4: focus on the CAN USE tech--have had teachers say "oh I'm not tech savvy" that's not an acceptable answer anymore!
A4: You can't always count on technology, but you CAN most definitely count on a quality teacher.
A4)Bit of wisdom. You don't have to use tech in all aspects, but if it can give Ss an edge, why not? Tech = tool
A4 if we teach backward by design, teaching geek 1st, tech geek 2nd. Tech to enhance not replace.
This sums it up perfectly! https://t.co/DBjIdq1DXP
A4: You can't always count on technology, but you CAN most definitely count on a quality teacher.
Kindle Unlimited--YES. Happy it's part of Unlim.
Boy is that true! https://t.co/CEx7LAQeU8
A4: You can't always count on technology, but you CAN most definitely count on a quality teacher.
A4- The best ed help is in the seats of your classroom= the Ss are already doing all the items below
https://t.co/72g7Wb1oHn
Glad your Ss have the oppotunities to make those kind of choices! Essential!
. That's one of the things I love most about your approach to PBL.
Love this!! is AMAZING tonight! https://t.co/LzEEu33czM
A4: You can't always count on technology, but you CAN most definitely count on a quality teacher.
A5: Elementary teacher in me, but how can you clearly determine when it is used "as a tool, not a toy"?
Why are we so scared of our kids using technology? Give up Control and gain a life long learner! https://t.co/HDP8sOLrNq
A5: It starts w/classroom culture & expectations. Have the Ss start the discussion for use then run w/it https://t.co/tfepAXhHfO
A5: Can't get behind this 1, must say I hate phones in school, think it's unfair to kids who can't afford 1 (of which I have many)
Love "teaching geeks"! Passionate educators step out of their comfort zone to do what's best for Ss https://t.co/hRPrbpodxx
A5)we are oftentimes overwhelmed w the "bad" things cell phones & social media are capable of,we are scared to open Pandora's box
A5 we always ban what we are fearful of. They are using it with or without u
A5: I think Ss need to be shown how to use it correctly, but all T need to be on board. Some would rather ignore it.
A5-Why so afraid of BYOD? Teach to be responsible & Ss will. Set positive expectations, show trust, and let them show you they can.
A5: teaching firsties this isnt a problem, but as a parent I have wondered why my kids can't use their phones have to buy devices
I don’t know that I can’t get behind it but there is def an issue of equity… can we offer those without an alternative?
A5: Only as powerful as user can imagine. 3rd graders w/iPhones don't see changing world, but for selfies and playing games
A5: besides the disparity btwn those that can afford a phone and those that can't, I just hate kids texting
A5 When you tell Ss they can't use it, they want to use it more! Tell them your expectations + teach them to use it responsibly!
My kids can turn anything into a toy, not just tech. That usually tells me they're not engaged.
A5) True in many schools. How can open environments help those that aren't? How can we collab and act to help Ss have more access?
Nah, I understand, that's why I lean more towards 1:1 tech that's school controlled vs personal. https://t.co/DqpFiagJa2
A5: Elementary teacher in me, but how can you clearly determine when it is used "as a tool, not a toy"?
My pleasure! Christy is an amazing leader in education. Give her a follow! cc: https://t.co/BJdbbnsDva
Moving away from my school account and starting my own PLN. Thanks for the push . will be so proud!

Moving away from my school account and starting my own PLN. Thanks for the push . will be so proud!
A5: Always a great opp for digital citizenship!
A5: Fear, taboo, and unfamiliar with how to use mobile devises often result in the decision to ban. (1/2)
A5: I agree that we need to acknowledge it (in front of the students) as a "tool" and not a toy simply for entertainment.
Q5 there is a fine line between a learning tool and a toy.. Hard to know when to draw it.
A5) just bc you allow cell phones in your classroom, doesn't mean it's a free for all. Classroom mgmt & expectations still apply.
A5: Fear of Ss phones - I can't monitor them all, yet I'll be held responsible if they're looking at inapp. material/cyberbullying
A5: I have mixed feelings about this but I know we need to embrace them. With our students with 1-1 they don't need them as much.
But it could possibly, if they are led to the amazing opportunities it can hold that they haven’t seen
A5 there is a fine line between a learning tool and a toy.. Hard to know when to draw it.
A5: Because we have a few that use inappropriately we ban use for all. Can't teach how to use if they can use at all. Soft skills
The fear is a legitimate one with bullying, sexting, etc...plus not all kids can afford to have their own https://t.co/oA8xgiTAVF
Why are we so scared of our kids using technology? Give up Control and gain a life long learner! https://t.co/HDP8sOLrNq
A5: Education is still attempting to adjust to this new "Knowledge Age" and its more work to incorporate it correctly
Yes, give Ts autonomy, Ss reasonable aaccess, avoid Ss trying to hack the system and waste good
Hi Matthew! Great to see you, as always. Look fwd to reading your blogpost.
I agree. As well as the legal issues this puts schools in. 1:1 school tech is the way to go. https://t.co/UBcShpoBeQ
A5: Can't get behind this 1, must say I hate phones in school, think it's unfair to kids who can't afford 1 (of which I have many)
we need to teach the expectations so kids can grow and learn to use it properly
I tell parents who question if kids are more distracted by tech, that kids who were distracted before tech are the same with it.
One final image for tonight's . Thank you for inspiring me every Monday night! You guys rock! https://t.co/GzvT3GuUbj
A5: The reality is S have phones in school & are using them, despite the ban. Give S a reason to use devices, not hide them.
I agree. Banning is not the answer from learning standpoint. Leadership, modeling, conversation about it is.
When my iPad isn’t nearby I pull out my phone for Google to share with the class. Modeling what it can do and not what it can’t.
There are a lot & legit concerns Ss need taught soft skills character skills 2 understand the bad is that https://t.co/3YYEASsJSe
A5)we are oftentimes overwhelmed w the "bad" things cell phones & social media are capable of,we are scared to open Pandora's box
Agree. Continue to "hide/restrict" Ss give up, disconnect or try to work around the block.
Look for the good all around us, great chat tonight!
Final-Take time to just laugh with your Ss. It's the best way to destress a day. That and getting back on Twitter with
Love this even though it’s not really a second grade issue https://t.co/xMtbqqravN

A5 tough one. I'm firm, no phones until appropriate (yes, in class uses) teach: self control of tech moves you ahead in life.
A5: p2 I let kids use them when they need to snap pictures and email the photos. If they have a reason then I believe it is ok
