Megan Hacholski (@megan_hacholski) and Michael Abramczyk (@_on11), along with guest moderators, lead each week with a different focus tied to their strengths and areas of expertise.
Hi Jon and Marlena! Vanessa Heller here from warm Southern CA: #inquiry#pbl and #GiftedEd, middle school humanities teacher, ELA Dept. Chair, Tech Innovator, Peer Coach and user of #EduProtocols#122edchat
GREETINGS FRIENDS! This is Michael A. #STEM Facilitator for the stars from @Simmonsknights1, currently on hiatus due to the cold weather. I am grateful that you chose to stay inside with #122edchat to heat up your instruction with #eduprotocols this evening!
Hey #122edchat. Scott from Winchester VA. I am a HS ITC, founder of #fcpslearn and a national semifinalist for @CoSN NextGen Emerging Edtech Leaders award. Voting opens Monday!! Link to come.
A HUGE thank you to one of my most favorite humans, @jcorippo, for taking the lead this evening w/his wonderful co-author, @mhebern. Excited for the both of them to share the POWER of #eduprotocols w/the #122edchat community. Not familiar, stay tuned! You're in for a treat.
Hello everyone! Scott from cold mid Michigan. Middle school dean. Enjoying these days off but ready to get back sooner than later! Currently -13 with an even colder windchill. #122edchat
#122edchat Q1 With teachers quitting in record numbers, #Eduprotocols provide a great way to increase student success and reduce teacher workload - have you heard or tried #Eduprotocols? Share! Or ask questions!
A1 Yes! We do 8 Parts Grammar regularly, used Frayer a Friend, dabbled in Iron Chef Slides once or twice and I gave a Pechakucha preso for @TCG8 last spring. My @oakparkusd#TechInnovator group is trying out #EduProtocols this year too #122edchat

A1: @moler3031 showed me the #CyberSandwich from the book. I used it to have students collaborate on an article about Grant and Lee. It went really well! Great way to not only see finished products, but also see how Ss were making individual contributions to learning! #122edchat
A1: Reading #eduprotocols right now. One of the biggest takeaways has been the prioritizing relationships over curriculum at the start of the year. Saw this in action with @KalchbrennerELA and @mdeegan122. They did community building exercises to promote expectations. #122edchat
#122edchat
A1: I have not had the chance to dig into this so I'm extremely intrigued. Dealt personally with burnout two years ago and was reinvigorated by teaching for sustainability, PBL, and smarter ways to embed student-centered learning and embedded formative assessment
A1: I share my love of @eduprotocols in my PD sessions. I am not in the classroom anymore but I wish I had these then!! If I ever go back.... #122edchat
1) I own almost every @dbc_inc book there is, but I have not picked this up yet. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I am all about learning ways to increase collaboration, voice, engagement, and efficiency. #122edchat
Kristen here from PA. I teach 6th grade science. And someone ate all the Oreos in my house (you know, the super stuffed ones)except for one. Do I eat the last one? If I do, I have to throw away the container. And it’s a long cold walk to the recycling container. #122edchat
A1: I set a goal to use #eduprotocols all year. I see students collaborating with each other, getting more comfprtable communicating their ideas, creating with technology, and critically thinking about social studies through writing. #122edchat
A1 Being an Aussie educator - I haven't been introduced to #Eduprotocols but am familiar with the concept of using broad strategies in order not to "reinvent the wheel" in designing learning experiences #122edchat
#122edchat Q1 With teachers quitting in record numbers, #Eduprotocols provide a great way to increase student success and reduce teacher workload - have you heard or tried #Eduprotocols? Share! Or ask questions!

A1: I think anything that provides framework for good quality pedagogy can be beneficial to all levels of teachers, especially because content should continue to change. It’s beneficial to have some constant. #122edchat
A1: I have learned about them through my #4OCFpln but have not put my hands on them... teach me! I’m all ears... and eyes... and always willing to take a risk! 👊💥 #122edchat
#122edchat A1 I haven't heard of #Eduprotocals Just saying... If you make it past 10 years in teaching you are in it for the kids! You don't teach for the finances. You teach because of the kids. Education #ItsAllAboutTheKids
I typically purchase an education book once a month to read. I have read Teacher Myth, TLAP, Wild Card, Be Real, Classroom Chef, Path 2 Serendipity, Kids Deserve It and others. What should I read next? #122edchat
A2: Give a BRIEF overview of the plan for the day, then let them loose with an agenda that will allow them to uncover content on their own. Check in throughout class, assess at the end to see what my next steps should be. #122edchat
A2 I love a good entry point/provocation/anticipatory set to pique interest before teaching, a solid driving question to promote wonder, and targeted teaching when needed. #eduprotocols#122edchat
#122edchat Q1 With teachers quitting in record numbers, #Eduprotocols provide a great way to increase student success and reduce teacher workload - have you heard or tried #Eduprotocols? Share! Or ask questions!
A1: I love, love, love #Eduprotocols and wish so badly I could do more frequently! I only have Ss once a month for media and the rest of the time I'm coaching Ts. We did Fast & Curious as our first day procedures lesson and it was awesome! Ss learned so much faster! #122edchat
A1: I have the book and have used Frayer a Friend with my second graders. They uploaded the finished product to @Seesaw . They loved this engaging activity! #122edchat
Then have a peek at the #eduprotocols hashtag and we have awesome freebies at https://t.co/wrXqlV3QFw. They are effective, FUN and really focus on the craft of teaching instead of endless worksheets. #122edchat
Using the mini report week to week I see students improving on sorting information. I have seen students who have trouble putting together a few sentences knock out an entire paragraph. It has been awesome! #122EdChat
This is the book for you, Steve! I'm telling you...what you are doing with #SDGs is such an inspiration. Imagine joining that together with #eduprotocols! #122edchat
Teach While Walking Around (TWA!) - bring out there giving feedback before kids make errors and ensuring kids are working. Super simple. Works great. #122edchat
#122edchat Q1 With teachers quitting in record numbers, #Eduprotocols provide a great way to increase student success and reduce teacher workload - have you heard or tried #Eduprotocols? Share! Or ask questions!
A1: no clue what these are.
On a side note, I guess the bigger concern is the national shortage of teachers, lack of students entering the profession, and 3-5 year exit of new teachers.
#122edchat
The idea of #Eduprotocols is to have 10-15 rad frames you can use to teach EVERYTHING. Then, you swap out the content as needed. Super low cognitive lift allows kids to learn anything with little “bell curve”. #122edchat
The struggle is real, my friend! I want to do them with Ts, but I also want it to be THEIR idea to do them! They are such awesome, easy to use, step-by-step protocols for any subject area. I'm over here all... #122edchat
A2: I like to lecture to give my Ss the recipe, and then send them out to bake the cake. They create propaganda posters, write stories, design inventions, give pitches, participate in "Twitter Chats," and more to make the content come alive. #122edchat
It may change the way you approach education for the remainder of your career. I was marking all over my book today and lining up people to introduce #eduprotocols to. #122edchat
A3: My classroom tends to look a little more UNstructured than most - kids sitting wherever, lots of talking, etc. But at the heart, we have procedures in place that keeps things going smoothly. #122edchat
A3 I set parameters and daily routines (structure as you say) but within that structure is freedom to discuss and do. Routine mixed with surprise is the magic recipe I think. #Eduprotocols#122edchat
#122chat Q2 One of the best ways to get kids learning is to have them do more of the work. How do you deliver content and minimize your lecture time? Hint: The Iron Chef Lesson Plan is a SUPER easy way to do this! https://t.co/R5yrKSB3r3#eduprotocols
A2. Give a briefintroduction of what we will be covering for the day or start with an open ended question to get them thinking and reflecting on topic for the day. #122edchat
Q2: One of the best ways to get kids learning is to have them do more of the work. How do you deliver content and minimize your lecture time? Hint: The Iron Chef Lesson Plan is a SUPER easy way to do this! https://t.co/5wFtJyHIYq#eduprotocols#122edchat
A2: I'm totally using Fast and Curious for this one too! The students learn the content themselves, knowing they'll have to know the answers for the next @quizizz we do! #122edchat
“The mind of man is capable of anything, because everything is in it; all the past as well as all of the future”....one of my favorite quotes by Joseph Conrad in “Heart of Darkness”. As educators, we need to elevate this to fruition in our students. @MrPStrunk@ERobbPrincipal
A3: Our Lab is predictable, and after 9 wks, it can get stale. We have to be willing to listen to our "customers". Before break we had a "shutdown day" where we let our kids tell us what they like/did not like then worked to put those adjustments into action during Q3. #122edchat
A2: #ironchef is great. I link the resources in the slides. Ss create the slides. Ss create the presentation on screencastify. Ss link the presentation and share. Ss watch each others presentations. Ss learn from each other. How many times did I use Ss? They do it all! #122edchat
A2: I think we become so focused on 'lecture' we often forget about other instructional methods to deliver content. Guided instruction and an "I do, We do, You do" plan is a great way to incorporate more of the work while minimizing lecture time. #122edchat
#122edchat
A2: Less than 10m of teacher talk time during class.
Everything run through design thinking protocols.
Add SDG target to enhance motivation/the why.
Process driven conferencing driven by student metathinking /intentionality
Breathe
Smile
Celebrate
Kids have the keys
A2: I typically mix up lecture and group work, but I want to incorporate tech more especially now that my students started to use gmail. I am introducing them to Google Classroom now. #122edchat
A3: Structure is what our Ss crave. They want variety, but structured in the same manner. That's why #eduprotocols is fantastic! The structure is the same, but the variety is in content & how we implement. #122edchat
#122chat Q3 Cyber Sandwich is a pair share with academic accountability. Structure is a theme throughout #EduProtocols, how do you use structure in your class? How do you keep structure from becoming boring? #Eduprotocols Cyber Sandwich Template: https://t.co/7jmNtk9oa0
A2: Using the grid method and edpuzzle has been invaluable for this. Ss are introduced to the topic first usually by a video and notes. Then I jump in w/ mini-lessons. #122edchat
A2: Yes, one of the best ways to get Ss learning is for the workload to shift to them. W/Fast & Curious, my Ss created a spreadsheet to chart their accuaracies daily M-Th. We celebrate growth on Thursdays & test on Fridays. Been great! #122edchat
#122edchat This graph drives me teaching, although not scientifically based, but when you let your kids teach each other the test scores do go up! I try to limit my lecture time and let the kids teach each other. I walk around my room and HEAR learning occuring.
A3: I think repetition is super important and underutilized in education. I don't think everything needs to be exciting, but I try to model excitement about my content - not necessarily the projects Ss will do with it. #122edchat

Q2: I did have an answer for this yesterday, but I think I’m going to try creating a slide for every day that has the objectives, tasks, and early finishers on it. #122edchat
A2b: Ss also completes a #greatamericanrace presentation. I have them an article from the Constitution. They created clues on a slide. Then we created a digital breakout with our slides and clues. It. Was. Awesome. And student led! #122edchat
A2: create learning communities in which the students become the experts and report out as the expert to their peers on the essential topics.
#122edchat
I love the gradual release of responsibility model. I do believe that students will need to learn the skills and strategies, and there is a value of scaffolding. In the end, students will have to build their autonomy in learning. #122edchat
Hey Howard! Welcome! It's a transformational approach to classroom instruction with the mindset of breathing life back into the educational process. #122edchat
A2: I appreciate when my Ts utilize small group time. We are trying to work on how much time needs to be spent whole group and how much time can be spent small group and interactive at a personalized level. #122edchat
My Ss know the routine. Bell work m-w, thurs review bell, fri SSR. After bell about 10 min of me giving directions then we dive into content #122edchat
A2 One is the ways I do this in math is inquiry questions. I give my Ss a question to ponder and to have a productive struggle for about 7 min. Then I have hem collaborate with a partner and then a small group. Then we talk it out. It is the reverse of Gradual Release. #122edchat
So, I teach AP Psych kiddos and I don't really limit lecture. I embed several opportunities for retrieval practice during lessons, though.
#eduprotocols#122edchat
#122edchat A2: I am shifting towards more projects and more mini-lessons. Students have to do more of the work and the mini-lessons let me target skills that my students still need to develop.
A3: I have structure in my routine. I teach 4th grade, so I start with a DOL and then go into my math lesson. My Ss know what I expect, and if they forget after a long break, I find myself needing to reinforce the rules and expectations I have. #122edchat
A3: Any structure can become boring, so I like to vary my strategies and tools frequently, but not like so often that Ss can't become comfortably adept at the tools/strategies. The #eduprotocols idea to streamline the process and vary the content also works well! #122edchat
#122edchat Q4 Word searches & fill-in-the-blank work are an academic desert. The Fast and the Curious #EduProtocol uses any CFU tool to give a quiz - instruct and then give the quiz again immediately. How do you use instant feedback to skyrocket student scores?
A3: I love "structured chaos." My class has a lot of routines so that it can run itself without me, but I make sure to break it up with brain breaks & interactive discussions/activities. We very rarely sit for longer than 20 minutes. #122edchat
A2: I am a believer in inquiry based learning alongside #PBL If you really want to be a part of growth, step aside and allow Ss to lead their learning! When they ignite their learning with relevance/authentic audience/passion and goals they set the world on fire! 🔥 #122edchat
A2: I dont know any of the protocols/templates... but I do know that I tend to ramble so have been using my timer a lot more on myself and my Ss lately #122edchat
A2 I teach 1st grade so lecture doesn’t really work. I have a mini lesson, (usually a lot of modeling) and then we have practice/centers/tech, with a closing/share. I have also been using @Seesaw to record myself giving directions/modeling. Ss can go back/rewatch #122edchat
A4: Best kind of checking for understanding for me is to simply walk around the room and listen while Ss are talking. If they don't understand something STOP all new teaching and reteach. #122edchat
Ah yes! @megan_hacholski, @kristi_daws gets a gold star for this! Producers > Consumers. Must have been sitting in your lab a few years back. #122edchat
In reply to

A4 I'm not good at instant feedback yet. I need to explore the power of @Quizziz. I learned more about this and other quizzing apps recently at a @leagueofschools@cueinc conference #122edchat
A4: Instant feedback is built in to coding instruction. By running their program, Ss automatically see if things are working. Efficiency in their code requires more personal feedback from me or a partner, but the independent nature of the work allows time for that! #122edchat
A2 I bring in an array of items that stimulate conversation on the topic. I set the items in front of the students and let them wonder. I ask very few prompting questions except to lead them to a conclusion. #122edchat
Q3: One way I provide structure is by doing book bins. Every week is a new story with new activities. Activities usually include some group work, @seesaw work, and other activities. I need ideas to keep it motivating for students!!! This book sounds perfect! #122edchat
A3: think outside the box, skip ordinary. Keep consistency but utilize a variety of teaching strategies to help Ss learn and own their learning. #122edchat
A3 Structure is important to my 2nd graders, so we CHAMP out the lesson and focus on how they will know they are successful at the task. #122edchat#PBIS
I deliver almost zero lecture ... i create a series of questions that guide student learning toward the objective ... DOK 1 first ... then 2 ... 3 ... as we move toward different perspectives in history ... i fill in the blanks as the kids find their responses #122edchat
A4: Was just texting @RealMrsBentley and @KalchbrennerELA about "The Fast and The Curious". If there are two teachers that can pull this off, it is those two! Really excited to get back to action and watch how the Ss respond to this fast-paced style of learning. #122edchat
A3: 1 reason I wanted to use #eduprotocols was to provide more structure. I love tech but I find that it can get out control and I end up throwing too much at Ss. Eduprotocols has helped me find consistency and structure this year. #122edchat
A3: I found choice boards to be a great way for students to have a voice in expressing their knowledge without having 100 of the same products. #122edchat
There's that famous quote, "Children can't bounce off the walls if we take away the walls." I like that you set the expectations and parameters, while also letting them have the freedom they desire too!
#122edchat
Working on a thinking approach called Empathy to Impact cycle. Interconnecting service learning/ inquiry cycle terminologies around: CARE, AWARE, ABLE, IMPACT. (always reflecting)
Kids link disciplinary and 21st standards during justification of learning/ ePortfolios.
The same happens for kids and their robotics work. As it fails to do the task, we learn to see where the breakdown occurs and learn how to fix it #122edchat
Using a timer revolutionized my classroom..Have you checked out https://t.co/Slp2O4MRVM? Timer and many other great tools to use all day in the classroom! #122edchat
A2 One of the ways I do this in math is inquiry questions. I give my Ss a question to ponder and to have a productive struggle for about 7 min. Then I have them collaborate w/a partner and then a small group. Then we talk it out. It is the reverse of Gradual Release. #122edchat
A1
The 4 c's
collaboration
critical thinking
communication
creativity
When you let students take charge of their learning by allowing them to collaborate their communication skills and level of creativity naturally increases and critical thinking becomes second nature
#122edchat
A2: We made the shift via a focus on student engagement & more S to S talk than T to S talk. We also focused on questioning. I no longer hear Ts answering student questions. Ts now return a question that challenges the student to do the thinking &/or to go deeper. #122edchat
#122edchat A3 Make your class an #experience I teach math pretending to be Tim the Tool Man Taylor. The kids LOVE the grunts and #MorePower chants! My class is STRUCTURED but it is also a place the kids want to be. So cool to wake up and WANT to go to work. <3 my job!
A4: Instant feedback makes it easier for Ss to grasp content! I love that FandC gives Ss the ability to play with trial and error as well. It gives me the opp to see what Ss know and what they don't know so I'm not wasting time "teaching" what they already know! #122edchat
#122edchat Q4 Word searches & fill-in-the-blank work are an academic desert. The Fast and the Curious #EduProtocol uses any CFU tool to give a quiz - instruct and then give the quiz again immediately. How do you use instant feedback to skyrocket student scores?
A3 We follow a very similar structure every day. I usually adjust the content or process that is used. We spend the first 6 weeks establishing rituals and routines. #122edchat

I'm currently writing a report about the different types of structural learning. Higher collective mobilization and interactivity have increased students' roles in active learning. I need to learn more about #eduprotocols ! #122edchat
Actually, not so much. You can grow as you go! Running @quizizz or @Socrative twice instead of once is super easy. And a lot of the work is shared Google Slides. Not a ton of platform to learn. :) #122EdChat
In reply to
@RHansen4thGrade, @spoonfuloflit, @quizizz, @Socrative
A4: Instant & specific feedback is the very BEST way to skyrocket S success. By charting S daily accuracy for ex, (from A2) S see the learning or lack of learning. When it's visible and has immediate feedback, confidence & accuracy definitely take off! #122edchat#eduprotocols
A3. You can also keep the element of surprise and keep the why until the end of the lesson. Keep your Ss curiosity flowing. The element of surprise. You can maintain the same theme throughout class.#122edchat
A4: We set goals on a daily basis that evolve throughout the day... when one is mastered we celebrate and set another! It is a revolving door of learning/achieving/goal crushing! #122edchat
A2: Yes, one of the best ways to get Ss learning is for the workload to shift to them. W/Fast & Curious, my Ss created a spreadsheet to chart their accuaracies daily M-Th. We celebrate growth on Thursdays & test on Fridays. Been great! #122edchat

YAY friend! You're going to love it! I'm already digging it - didn't want to put it down, but missed my #122edchat fam, so stopped just long enough to eat & tweet, then going back to it! #CreativelyProductive

A4: I have my class set up so I can walk around, have intentional conversations, give feedback in real time.
Ss love starting class with a fast and curious. I put together questions that relate to the content they are learning that week. #122edchat
I just gave an end of course survey. My classes so far have given me really valuable feedback that I can use to improve myself and the course going forward. Really helpful for a new course! #122edchat
A4: My Ts use a variety of pre/post testing to help drive instruction. Many of them use a variety of tech tools like Plickers, Kahoot, Quizzlet, etc. instant feedback is important for Ts and Ss. I use immediate feedback through notes to Ts after observations. #122edchat
A3~
~structure and protocols are mutually agreed upon by all of us at onset of year ~ WE refine/tweak as we move forward in our learning
~these are very important pieces of our cohesive community and provides safety & security for our diverse littlest learners ❤️
#122edchat
A5: I have never been a big proponent of note-taking. When I taught science, I just didn't find it effective - but maybe I didn't have the write tools. Trying to find a balance now with new content. Do I want them learning the vocab behind coding or just DOING? #122edchat
A5: I frequently encourage our artists to draw their discoveries to share what they learned. I even told my daughter to sketch her responses to a biology test. What I am finding is that fear prevents many from stepping out. Need to unlearn traditional school. #122edchat
A5 I introduced the basics of #sketchnotes when the year started via a hyperdoc-ish activity and regularly provide opportunities to combine #inkandideas as kids work and create products. I look forward to Sketch and Tell! #EduProtocols#122edchat
A4: First comes the understanding that PRACTICE is not an ASSESSMENT. Give them plenty of time for practice with feedback without the fear of grades. #122edchat
That’s a key in #Eduprotocols: kids merely copy the first couple reps as they acclimate. After rep 6-7 they are nearly autonomous. And not just a few. Nearly 100%. Confidence soars. Culture improves. Pride appears. #122EdChat
I love the gradual release of responsibility model. I do believe that students will need to learn the skills and strategies, and there is a value of scaffolding. In the end, students will have to build their autonomy in learning. #122edchat

A4 - Instant feedback can be ok, but don't equate that with long-term learning. Make sure you assess days, weeks, months later too.
#122edchat#eduprotocols
A3: I create structure through building relationships that create a bond of trust. Through trust I can empower Ss to focus on their own personal learning goals that create their own structure! Voice/Choice/Empowerment #122edchat
Yep! Working towards more visible learning, and it has really motivated the majority! We celebrate 20% gains on Thursdays, close to 20%, or more than 1 100% or 2 or more 90% ers. #122edchat#eduprotocols
A4: Quizziz, MobyMax & Google Form Quizzes are beneficial tools for quick feedback and improvement in learning I use. While doing a mini-lesson I like to use peardeck to quickly assess the whole group at once. #122edchat
#122edchat
A4:
Face to face critical friends' feedback protocols
Embedded formatives like this: https://t.co/vhkJt13Qyo
FAIL = first attempt in learning
Student-centered, joyful learning
#122edchat - A4 - I use @goformative and @IXLLearning to get instantaneous feedback about student performance to see who needs help the most. It makes me way more efficient in knowing who to help
#122edchat Q4 Word searches & fill-in-the-blank work are an academic desert. The Fast and the Curious #EduProtocol uses any CFU tool to give a quiz - instruct and then give the quiz again immediately. How do you use instant feedback to skyrocket student scores?
A2
I always love "Ask the Expert"
Give students a choice board and let them select a way they can become expert in a topic:
Will they make a video
Collaborate on a shared doc
Use VR
Conduct interviews
The sky's the limit
#122edchat
A5.2: I love having conversations about #sketchnoting. Ss fall in love w/school again. Why can't we let the artists communicate in their native language? Truth is they may retain content transmitted in class longer than if they were required to notate in a trad format. #122edchat
A4. #QRBreakIN! Imagine an escape room in reverse (or old school centers with a gamified twist). Solve the chamber, race to a new station. Make a mistake? Try again! First team through all eight puzzles wins! Full write up here: https://t.co/iyKPKpkYxa#122edchat

as I move around the class I engage in the student conversation ... sometimes they ask me questions ... sometimes I ask them questions ... the thought is they should develop an opinion on the topic being discussed and have fact to back up their ideas. #122edchat
#122edchat A4 Most of my grades are from Warm Ups where the kids can help each other. The homework counts for 30 points of the grade and the warm up problems count for 70 points. total 100. When you let kids teach each other test scores go up! #AlwaysBelieve
THANK YOU for joining @mhbern and I tonight for #122edchat! We hope you''ll have a chance to try out some #eduprotocols this week! Special thanks to @_on11 for the chance to share tonight! Go out there and #TeachBetterWorkLess!
Thank you so much for tonight's chat! So glad to learn about #EDUPROTOCOLS . I need to learn to implement a structured sketch note. My students will love it. #122edchat
#122chat Q5 People remember better when they draw or take notes. Sketch and Tell is a structured sketchnote activity in #EduProtocols book 2 (out this spring). Share an example of how you or your students use note taking to remember better.
A4: I use @PearDeck a lot! Have ss draw dots, lines, etc. you can see whether most ss are on right track. Individually, I use station learning. I get the chance to check in with each ss regularly. Activities that are quick to assess and can make miscon. Visible. #122edchat
A3
Hyperdocs are a great way to keep students on task and on track
Make sure that within the hyperdoc periodic reflection meetings with the teacher are scheduled
Conferencing with students helps keep the structure in place
#122edchat
A2: I use a workshop model. That means I deliver a 7-minute mini-lesson, then it is work time and I go around and confer with students or groups until there is a need for another mini-lesson to shore up the understanding. #122edchat
A5: I like using the Frayer model for notes. Sketchnoting is something I would like to incorporate more into class.
I just tried the sketch and tell with How a Bill Becomes a Law. I like how it challenged Ss to use shapes and words to explain an idea. #122edchat
Hey! A self imposed timer made me a way better teacher! Check out Iron Chef and Cyber Sandwich #eduprotocols for easy, high quality activities you can use right away too. #122EdChat
A3: Structure provides the safety & security that the students need (& actually want). Ts provide solid routines & procedures & utilize partners & small groups. Some Ts have Tribes training & utilize this structure within their classrooms. #122edchat
A4. You can give ibstant feedback and leave messages through @goguardian when watching your ss work on projects or activities on internet. Also, walking around, and answering questions, helping Ss as needed. Working with Ss either 1:1 or in small groups.#122edchat
Setting goals is a wonderful way to teach students to be in control of their own "feedback." Many students are searching for reassurance from a teacher, when they need to be learning how to reassure themselves!
#122edchat
A4: We set goals on a daily basis that evolve throughout the day... when one is mastered we celebrate and set another! It is a revolving door of learning/achieving/goal crushing! #122edchat
The percentages are "scientific" but from experience... The more my students help each other the higher their scores. I can pretty much predict what classes will outscore the others by how much they are teaching each other. #122edchat
A5. Love using sketchnotes as a key component of #QRBreakIN! Imagine an escape room in reverse (like old school centers with a gamified twist). Solve the chamber, race to a new station. Make a mistake? Try again! Kids LOVE it. And LEARN MORE! https://t.co/iyKPKpkYxa#122edchat

Thanks @mhebern & @jcorippo for joining us for #122edchat and I look forward to #MoreEduProtocols and I hope to see you both at #CUE19 (which all you freezing folks should fly out for this March in Palm Springs!)
#122edchat A4: From one of the assessments that I have to give my Ss for data purposes I get a list of skills that my class needs to practice. From there, I use things like Kahoot, Quizzizz, and Quizlet to review the skills. If they need more than just a review, we go there.
So true. If we are not testing what we are designing, then it is more likely to fall short or bug out. Even in these moments of failure, the feedback provided is so essential to improving the product we are producing. #122edchat
Thanks for a great chat! Glad I was able to join in! Awesome topic and looking forward to diving into the protocols more to learn more about them! #122edchat
A4 I spend a lot of time conferencing 1:1 with Ss. My students are beginning readers so conferences work best. I also project student work as exemplars and provide feedback on all their @Seesaw entries #122edchat

A4: In the workshop model, I have continual understanding of the pulse of my learners. I can stop and do a mini-lesson or take care of confusion on the spot! #122edchat
What a great chat! Thanks for leading the way @jcorippo and @mhebern ! Keep up the great work! Can't wait for the next one to be released! Have a fab rest of the week @_on11 and the awesome #122edchat crew!

Go check out #Eduprotocols!! You'll find something that transforms your classroom tomorrow & it will be so easy to implement. Thanks to @jcorippo & @mhebern#122edchat
A5. Depending on what your doing, setting up an experiment, drawing a pic or sketchnoting, for apparatus, then recording hypothesis, procedure, data, results, discussion, and conclusion. #122edchat
A2 I gave up heavy lifting. I have 5 teams, team jobs and unless scholars have asked teammates, they don't get to ask me. Peer mentoring is The Way To Go and there is so much learning taking place!! #122chat#edchat#edchatde#ukedchat#ibmyp
#122chat Q2 One of the best ways to get kids learning is to have them do more of the work. How do you deliver content and minimize your lecture time? Hint: The Iron Chef Lesson Plan is a SUPER easy way to do this! https://t.co/R5yrKSB3r3#eduprotocols

a5 Modeling visible thinking strategies, thinking aloud while modeling notetaking, allowing for translanguaging, providing time for kids to process information via pacing/reading the room, supporting students in small groups, challenging students to share strategies
Such power! Oh, your kids, Kristen! They are lucky to have you in their corner! Thanks for contributing to the discussion tonight! This is a gem. #122edchat
Thank you #122edchat and @jcorippo and @mhebern! You have given me a lot of food for thought; I'm excited to learn more and put it into practice with @_on11 's help!

#122edchat A5 ENCOURAGE DOODLE NOTES! This kid went from a B- student to a A student after she started sprucing up her notes. #PentagonT = #AlwaysBelieve
A5: I use a hybrid 2-column note with main ideas and details. Students draw graphs, images, and use words to create study-thinking that sticks! #122edchat
A5: My Ss have options... this is how they learn what tools they need to comprehend and how they enjoy learning. @HeckAwesome has created many incredible videos to get Ss started which have helped my own to venture into #sketchnoting#122edchat
I've sat through presentations where I think some presenter is doing this #EDUProtocols, then I realize... nope, just their regular preso... and then it just gets awkward. And I start checking Twitter.... #122edchat 🤪
If you can bankroll me, I'll be there. That would be incredible. I have said it before and I will say it again, @jcorippo is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. #122edchat

I try to do more of a flipped classroom, and lots of peer learning. I like to guide my students’ learning, not lead it. We use videos, games, and google classroom a lot. Tech for the win! #122edchat

One trick to curb this is making the early attempts quicker (5-8mins) & require everyone to complete everything for a grade. After they are all working you can shift to academic feedback. It usually only takes about 7-10 days. Then the other 150 days are much better. #122edchat
A5: I learned about #sketchnotes during a summer online PD opportunity through #HiveSummit. I made a sketch note for each PD session & shared them w/others. It was such a destresser for me! It opened our eyes to how kids could benefit from doing this as well! #122edchat
#122chat Q5 People remember better when they draw or take notes. Sketch and Tell is a structured sketchnote activity in #EduProtocols book 2 (out this spring). Share an example of how you or your students use note taking to remember better.
A5: Forgot to answer this one! I use #sketchnotes and created a #sketchnotes graphic organizer for my Ss to scaffold the process. Love the Sketch & Tell protocol too! Dual coding ROCKS learning! #122edchat#eduprotocols
Super pumped! Also, I realized today that my new Chromebook case, onto which I am placing stickers, doesn't have one that says #eduprotocols so... #122edchat
I have just begun to teach real note taking in my classroom. Before, I have approached it with more of a fill in the blank model and as we have gotten better at that, we have stepped it up. Students love drawing, so Sketch and Tell looks amazing! #122EdChat

Let them be kids.
Let them create.
Let them play.
Let them think.
Let them be what they are destined to be.
Let them soar to greatness...and be a teacher that provides opportunities that lead them there.🎈

Attention #122edchat I am hoping to get an interview with the @jcorippo for The Wired Educator Podcast. Wouldn’t that be a hoot! Hope you’ll check it out.
A4 - Instant feedback can be ok, but don't equate that with long-term learning. Make sure you assess days, weeks, months later too.
#122edchat#eduprotocols
Here’s the key, I think: notes aren’t just COPYING, they should be RETELLING with your own words and imagery. That’s powerful. Copying word for word? Not so much. #122EdChat
Try doing a one question @socrative open ended quiz. One KEY question. Then hit start vote. All the kids see all the work. Have them tell you what THEY see! #122EdChat
