Watching @SFecich doing her #ignite presentation to kick off #isteten#edcamp! “We can’t just shovel the shiny new things at our students without a connection to curriculum.” Love her rule of #stickwith3 “Go where you grow!” My favorite saying of the day so far!
Idea 1 from #isteten#edcamp work with local school district to have sessions for parents about how to use google drive or google classroom for when their child comes home they are more informed. Preservice teachers run these sessions. #iste18#gccedu

Currently exploring 22nd of Sept as a date for #SkypeEdcamp and may have @tamcdonald at the event. Opportunities to get involved at a physical event and lots of virtual opportunities to connect before, during and after the event. Pls RT https://t.co/Ji4s1vPJvx#ISTE18
When it costs $500 to get to the elite #edcamp, it ain't really free anymore.
These are definitely the minority, but it dilutes the brand and makes it look like other elite, haves-only events.
Maybe I'm not using the word elite correctly. I think when I see the word #edcamp, I think accessible: no big names (people like me), easy access (nearby), free/low cost (no more than my normal commute).
I also recognize those aren't the qualifiers from the edcamp foundation.
They're meant to be local events, right? If there is no local involved in the organization, I don't think it's a futile/failed event, I just think they're missing a big chunk of what makes them powerful. Local empowerment is something #edcamp has really supported well.
