A1 Peer coaching in many cases is received better as it’s from a colleague not a superior. This may allow the person to take bigger risk and value feedback. #eduAR
A1: Absolutely, some of my best coaches have been the paras that I've worked with over the years. Great life experiences, and tended to see things slightly different than me - which always challenged me to be better. #eduar
A1: Coaching is ultimately connecting. That doesn’t come from a title. A teammate, principal, custodian, counselor that is willing to connect is a powerful influencer. #eduar
Peer coaching is a team building opportunity for teachers to engage with each other as professionals and colleagues—not only to help our students grow, but also to help each other grow as learners. We allow ourselves to learn without ever leaving the classroom! 🙌🏻#EduAR
A1: Perspective! I think we sometimes get locked in our bubbles of thought, and seeking the advice and experience of a peer can bring new ideas and ways of understanding a problem to the table. Also, support! This gig is tough, y’all. Lean on each other! #EduAr
A1: The power of peer coaching lies in the willingness of all parties to get better minus evaluative comments or fear of 'not being good enough." #eduar
A1 - I’m not a coach. I’m an educator - and I love love love when peeps ask for my doodles to use for presentations - or activities- or lessons -! I love seeing pics of a classroom and finding an image on a wall in the background being part of the classroom learning #eduAR
The power in peer coaching is the modeling and support built in whether it’s student-student or teacher-teacher. The support and encouragement of a peer is wonderful. #eduar

A1) A peer coach is more likely to have expertise in a specific content or grade that benefits the other teacher. As far as teaching goes, I know a lot of high leverage, bed practices, but my only hands-on experience is with the content *I* taught. #EduAR
A1: Ts are more likely to build camaraderie and encourage each other than a supervisor can do. Also keeps the convos positive and focused on teaching and learning. #eduar
A1 Effective peer coaching happens when we reach out to each other in love, grown out of an authentic relationship. It’s the foundation of a positive culture that functions like a family growing & learning together! #eduar
A1: I think the power is held within the actual act of peer coaching.. if peer coaching is occurring then both educators are in an environment where each person’s talents, interests and expertise are celebrated and respected. That is POWERFUL #EduAR

A1- There is power in collaborating with others - being coached by peers - being supported and celebrated by peers ... there is power in being part of a whole .. #eduAR

A2 Instructional coaches are catalysts for learning. From teacher support to student engagement, they are instrumental to help make learning make sense. Their knowledge and support is amazing! #eduar
#eduAR A1 an accommodating and nurturing environment can be created by effective coaching ....it's very essential to have non threatening peers and guides
A2 -build & maintain relationships first- bc the coach is schoolwide, they see all the great teaching and can pass it along and even arrange for peer observations & fish bowl lessons so the ideas can be seen in action #EduAr

A2: An IC is an on-site, ongoing professional developer! Most teachers I have worked with welcome change.. but it’s the TIME it takes to implement and adjust that becomes overwhelming.. that’s where an IC can make a diff. #EduAR
A2: Instructional Coaches can focus on researching the "Science" of education, so teachers can focus more on the "Art" of education and Relationships. #eduar
Peer coaching allows Ts to work with one another in a non-threatening environment. They are able to share ideas with one another and build upon their knowledge with one another. #eduAR
Q2: "No significant change happens without a significant relationship". As admin we can't put the instructional coaches in "evaluative" mode. They need to be assisting teachers in becoming better. #eduar
Yes! I think it’s so important as an IC to capitlize on the strengths of teachers that sometimes may go unnoticed by their colleagues who do not see them teach! #EduAR

A2: I think it's less intimidating to work together with an IC. So many times, receiving instruction from an administrator feels more judgmental, whether that is the intent or not. #EduAR

@nortnik, @Lindsey_Bohler, @bethhill2829
A2: First, build relationships. Second, find out how you can support others in your building/district. Then, be willing to study, try new things, and get excited about them. Excitement and positivity are contagious, so get excited about learning and growing together! #EduAr
A2: you can’t be scared to face the hard realities that others may not want to see, BUT you must have some tools to offer. My rule of thumb is if you want someone to change something, you have to have an alternative to replace the old habit.#eduar

A2 By keeping the main thing the main thing and not getting caught up in “other duties assigned”. So often our coaches get pulled in so many directions that they lose their power to be a catalyst in our classrooms! They can get spread really thin! #eduar

#EduAR A1 Peer coaching is called good communication, relationships and empathy. If you see someone needing help you give it, if they need honest feedback you provide it and you hope they do the same. Good teams of teaching have been peer coaching all along.
Coaches are the stuffing of an Oreo! We are in the sweet spot where we are peers that encourage, model, facilitate, and become a library of resources. We are able to do this without fear of judgement or evals. Relationships building growth= pos change #eduar
A2 Teachers don’t always see themselves as the leaders they are. My job as a coach is to empower them to change that perspective and start the spark! #EduAR
A2: Instructional Coaches have to meet people where they are . I think sometimes we forget teachers are people too. We can't hire folks for their unique abilities and talents and then try to make everyone the same. #eduar

A2: The IC is "Team Teacher". I know I enjoy cheering my teachers on in my building. Relationships have to come first though. To be a catalyst, you must know your teachers just like a good teacher first gets to know her students. #eduar
A3 Data is important but we must recognize that “not everything that counts can be counted”. Develop student empathy, kindness, communication and positivity and those skills will lead to success. #eduAR
A3: We can leverage data even better if we first stop thinking of only "test scores" as data. What other data do we have on students, families, classrooms? Asking lots of questions without any preconceived notion of the answers. #eduar

A3: elevating informal or anecdotal data to the level of formal data can be critical. I’ve experienced, knowledgeable teachers discount what they SEE their students doing daily bc a computer program spit out something different. #eduar
A3: it is about generating rich discourse around teaching and learning, and data is an instigator that implores us to reconsider the effectiveness of our methodologies. #EduAR
A3: As long as the data improves, we can show that the child is learning. We need to use more of the "how" a child learns rather than a snapshot of a test. More differentiated inst. and more PBL. #EduAR
In reply to
@bethhill2829, @nortnik, @Lindsey_Bohler
Data isn’t a #. It’s common assessments, interviews, anecdotal records, observations, and much more. Once we help to see the WHOLE child we can then adjust our approach to meet the needs of our students.PLCs, kid talks, and common plans are crucial to improve our approach. #eduar
A3 Data is a piece of the puzzle. It’s a journey and snapshot along the way. Remembering that our students have to be taught how to learn for success is a high priority. Learning and making connections is amazing. #EduAR
A3: Assist teachers in analyzing data and looking for trends. I know my team often feels like they are drowning in data with little time to truly do a deep dive into it. Having a IC to talk about the data with is powerful. #eduar
A3 using quantitative data, qualitative data, anecdotal evidence and the educator heart combined - helps to see the big picture and understand what students really need to be successful... ❤️😀#eduAR
Since I have a focus in equity, we look at data & find trends around S populations & dive into planning from there. Ss need relationships. Through relationships Ts learn about backgrounds & interests which can be used in lessons #EduAr

A3: I have seen @eisenhowerkris and our literacy interventionist do this with teachers for the last two weeks...and the face of the child, along with the story of the child, was never placed aside. High expectations and nurturing of whole child—non-negotiable! #EduAR
@ISD2835PL Take a look at the tweets with #EduAR from tonight. I don't know what the hashtag stands for, but there's lots of good conversation regarding coaching. :)
#EduAR A3 They can break it down for Ts so that they receive info that is relevant and they don't have to do more work on top of the load they already have just to see what areas need to be addressed. ( most Ts already know The areas without "official" data )
A1: Peer coaching is extremely valuable. Receiving coaching, encouragement, and challenges from those in the trenches with you is a game changer. I always value those that are marching in the same fight I am for educational excellence for all students. #eduAR#BetterTogether
A3: The IC can guide teachers in interpreting data in its entirety: anecdotal notes, MAP results, literacy assessments, common assessments, checklists, kid talks, etc. Then use the data to drive instruction instead of label the students. Keep the WHOLE child in mind! #eduar
@ISD2835PL Take a look at the tweets with #EduAR from tonight. I don't know what the hashtag stands for, but there's lots of good conversation regarding coaching. :)
A3 Support the development of the WHOLE CHILD,and keep numbers in perspective.Coaches must be intentional about making student driven decisions, instead of data driven decisions. Data is important, but nothing is more important than the heart, soul, and potential of a child. #eduar
#eduAR A3. The trouble in India is that most students and their parents thrive by the statistics and data ...awards & academic rewards become a major part of any student's life ..so to take away the deeper Learning always us a challenge. It's never enough to just imbibe valyes

A2: by being a visible, joyful, servant. Make yourself present AND useful. Create and collect resources teachers can use right away, seek out connections in the community that the teachers you serve can use. #eduar
A3: It can be very challenging to look and analyze big picture while running the day to day of your classroom. The coach supports on the macro so teachers can get into the details of the micro.
#eduar
A3: Data is important - but too often it is seen all by itself. We can’t understand the data if we don’t understand the student. Through relationships with teachers, interventionists/coaches/admins can fill in the missing links - teachers know those kids best! #EduAr

A4: coaches should really just wear a t-shirt that says “all flaws on display” ...my best coaching and learning experiences have come from demos gone bad! #eduar
A4: You must try and be as transparent as possible. Admin must respect this. I would prefer admin did not even share anything with me that should not be common knowledge to all teachers. #EduAR
A4: Transparency is everything. The IC isn't a "got ya" role. Be real, have deep conversations, set clear goals with teachers and work BY THEIR SIDES to reach those goals. #eduar
A4: The benefits can lead to happier employees and even increased production. The key to transparency in a workplace is openness between the stakeholders. #EduAR

#EduAR A4 The role is that of support. A coach should have been a Ts at some point as to understand the ones they are working with. Teachers need help, support, backup, information and a coach can be such a godsend. The role should NOT be that of spy or judgement.
Yes. And Lead Learners must strive for this too. We always will have the stigma of the “evaluator”, but we don’t have to interact with others in that role. Principals...break the stereotypical mold! #EduAR

#eduAR so then what is the way out ....how does one train the parent community ....or is it just good to go along with the flow and keep creating awareness ....there will be an impact , sometime????
A4: Yes yes yes to so many replies! The IC is not perfect. We failed many times in the classroom. Be up front about failures and when you don't know the answer, don't pretend. Admit it and promise to research your resources. #eduar
A4: Keep it real. Be transparent about the goals of instructional coaching; also to be transparent about the responsibilities of all parties. It's never a choice to not be on the path to getting better. Looks different for different people but still not an option. #eduar
A4: We are ALL learners - and that means sometimes we are wrong! Or, we just have knowledge gaps (chameleon, anyone? 😉) We must be willing to be transparent about the fact that sometimes the answer is “I don’t know,” but follow it up with a plan to figure it out! #EduAr
#eduAR so then what is the way out ....how does one train the parent community ....or is it just good to go along with the flow and keep creating awareness ....there will be an impact , sometime????
To be able to grow as a TEAM we must be transparent.Get out of your bubble, get on the bus, and grow kids TOGETHER! We must be able to go to a teacher, para, admin, or act. teacher when WE are in need of their strengths. Relationships! Truth+humility+willingness=growth #eduar
#eduAR A4 transparency allows for ownership and everyone to be on the same page....that very important if you want a change in the thought process , systemic or personal.

A5 Transparency allows for the role of leader to be shared, observed, and modeled. It allows all stakeholders to play a part in the Why and who for every student. #eduAR
Yes!!! I have failed so many times! I was able to fall off of that horse, brush myself off, get back on and ride like no tomorrow! Failure builds growth! #eduar

A4: Transparency is a key ingredient to any effective coaching. Helping people know your "why" is critical. When people know your "why" then the "what" and "how" become much more manageable as each individual #failsforward.
#eduAR
A4 Teachers respect and are willing to learn from people they trust....People that listen and are all in to support and encourage what we do in our classrooms. Without transparency, it just doesn’t work because their is no trust. #eduar
A5: In the words of Tim McGraw, “Always stay humble and kind”. There is always more to learn and always some small way we can help even if it’s not in our job description. #EduAR#stayhumble
#5: The beauty lies in the relationship between the two of you. If the relationship is there, working together for what's best for each munchkin is a bonus because you have a shared interest. #EduAR

A5 - part a) Inviting peer teachers to collaborate with you on combined grade level learning experiences part b)being vulnerable and having a growth mindset & being willing to learn from others - knowing the risk taking & being open is key to growth #eduAR
Wow....
Wow....
WOW!
What an amazing convo tonight! Thank you all for your contributions! Join us next week for another engaging and challenging discussion!
#EduAR
#eduAR A5. Being a coach has to be a non threatening way of doing things, it's impossible to intimidate and then expect people to join you .. dialogues,& engaging people with the issues ...let them bring up ideas. Make everyone responsible for the direct implementation is needed

A5: by asking reflective questions and providing resources and making sure the teachers have set their own growth goals. To increase my coachable-ness (new word?) I set stretch goals, make them known to others, and seek critical feedback. #eduar
A5: When you have tapped into their strengths/owned your own weaknesses, it's easy to coach with a positive vibe between you and the teacher. As far as being teachable, make a list of teacher strengths in your building. Seek those ppl out and learn from them as needed! #eduar
A5 Humble yourself. Empathize, because we’ve all struggled. Be a shoulder and listen. These kids are not their kids; they are OUR kids! Find solutions together. Grow together. Did I hear “TEAM?” #eduar

To improve myself-Listen more, give more positive feedback, and always remember to give staff those kudos along with extensions if I think about them. There is nothing worse then thinking something great to share without saying it! #eduAR
A5; You can ask lots of questions to get the conversation going. I was an IC before a principal. As a new principal I thought I had to take off my coaching hat but soon found out nobody wants to live in a world where they are always being evaluated. It breeds fear. #eduar
A5 Start with the good you notice, how you have grown as an educator, and what you noticed. Model what you’re thinking and get their input/feedback too. #eduar
A5: I am committed to building relationships, leaning on my peers, asking how I can support teachers and students - and then following through - studying, sharing, and celebrating success and growth in teachers and kids! #EduAr

A5 It has to be a team approach. There’s no empowerment when the IC is the one identifying the issues and coming up with solutions. I look forward to learning from the Ts in my building. #EduAR
A5: Sometimes as a teacher or a principal we just need to hear . " I know you are working hard and doing your best. Let's hit the pause button, regroup and make a plan." And sometimes you just want to hear that you "don't stink nearly as much as YOU think you do!" #eduar

Thank you for facilitating the convo tonight. Always energizing to get to connect with other joyful growth focused educators, no matter what state they live in! #GetInWhereYouFitIn#eduAR#STEAMpln
Whew! Always the fastest hour of the week! So great to be back in this positive, passionate, joyful energy! I’ve missed y’all! Thanks #EduSistas ! #EduAR#JoyfulLeaders
A4. You have to be “transparent” to see all angles. Not all players play the same on the field. No teacher teaches the same in the classroom. Be opened to new ideas. #EduAR
