#LearnLAP
#learnlap A1 Getting to know your students is always the first step in building relationships. Ice-breaker nd team building are great ways to accomplish just that!!
A1: Students will share their passions when they see ours and when they feel safe enough to do so. We have to show them we value all types of learning and knowledge- not just what we ourselves are skilled at #LearnLAP
A1 we have to share our passions with them so they can see how excited and enthusiastic we are about them. We must also let them know how we found our passions #LearnLAP
A1: We have to KNOW our students. Know their interests. Know what their good at. Help them mesh the two and discover some passions along the way. #learnlap
A1: I think we need to get to know students as people before we know them as learners. This will allow us to help them explore their passions more effectively. We also need to be willing to provide students with voice and choice. #LearnLAP
A1: As a leader, I need to make sure that Ts have the time to get to know students and have some fun. Also, Ts must feel that they can design learning opportunities that allow Ss the freedom to let their personalities shine! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A1: It is important to share your own passions with your students through showing them that being passionate about something is exciting this helps allow them to feel comfortable enough to share what they are becoming passionate about. #learnLAP#troll209
#LearnLAP A1: we’ve started passion projects in my class and I’ve been showing my students my interest in crocheting. They see how excited I am with it and they’ve now begun to seek out their own passions!!
A1. You have to be patient when you are working with kids. Remember things we think should be easy, might not be easy for certain students. Help them embrace their strengths, believe in them and build a culture that will allow them to thrive. #learnlap
A1 - Get to know your kids, let them get to know you. Give time in class for students to explore their passions (Passion Time/Genius Hour). Share your interests with them. Show an interest! #LearnLAP
A1: Find out their interests through conversations; don't be afraid to deviate from traditional lessons if Ss can produce results and learn from things they are interested in. #learnlap
A1: A culture of love, belief, and trust will definitely encourage/empower students to take RISK and allow them to tap onto their potential - ONLY then will students discover their passion #learnLAP
A1: the relationship must be built on trust! Students must feel safe enough to take risks when exploring these passions!! #learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A1. With kids you are especially reaching out to, spend two minutes a day for ten school days and you will know so much more about them! Listen and ask questions! #LearnLAP
A1: By ensuring that we are promoting instead of stifling creativity. We want to find and develop opportunities for our students to be able to share the incredible things they can do and hone their skills to create amazing products! #learnlap
A1: We have to discover and show our passions! Kids connect to us through our passions. Once we connect, we then can authentically encourage kids to find their passion and encourage them to share it as well! #LearnLAP
A1: Be authentic with children. Share your passions and your pet peeves. Connect with them emotionally. They won’t share their passion with you if they don’t trust you first. #learnlap
A1) I think the best way I can empower students is by always being in their corner! Allowing them to be KIDS and make mistakes, but forgive and forget quickly, while sticking up for their rights to be kids! #learnlap
A1: We need to meet our Ss where they are. With the right encouragement and support every student will be able to reach his/her full potential! There's a world of opportunity for our kiddos! #LearnLAP
In reply to
@emilyfranESL, @teresagross625, @PaulSolarz
Absolutely. I encourage teachers to take risks and have given them freedom to try new things without repercussion. Need to build trust for this to happen #LearnLAP
A1. Be goofy. Be open. Be human. Show students that they can answer in so many different ways. Show students how much you love being at “work”. #LearnLAP
Be a role model when you communicate with colleagues and parents. Be genuine with the students in showing you care for them and be real with them. Sharing my personal experiences as a 2nd language learner makes it relevant to them! #learnlap
A1- Getting to know my kinders first and foremost will help me build relationships so I can help these young ones discover what they are passionate for as they learn and grow.
#IHMarchMadness#eaglespln#learnlap
A1: Use every opportunity to find out what students' interests are, then offer choice-based lessons that allow them to explore through those interests. Ask and listen! #LearnLAP
A1 You need to build authentic relationships. Show students that you truly care about them. Get to know them, spend time with them. Incorporate their passions into your lessons & learning. Use lunch and other free times to build students up. Make learning fun. #LearnLAP
A1: We as Ts need to always be on the lookout and encourage passion. College, money, and the “American dream” are not what all our students are striving for. Most want to pursue what they love & we love them sooo.... we need to help them. #learnlap
A1 we take time to get to know Ss, build in activ to learn abt one another, be avail to support, provide opps for Ss to explore their interests as well, encourage along the way #LearnLAP

I was thinking about the trust piece last weekend. I realized having confidence in ourselves is hugely important in building trust. I blogged about it but it's a lot about teaching math, too. #LearnLAP

Offering a wide variety of subjects to Become an Expert at is really important to help them discover what they might be interested in. #IHMarchMadness#learnlap

A1: I am “that” teacher in the morning with my blender full of spark in one hand and a high five ready to go with the other. Ss ask if I’m okay if I’m late for their greeting! I play music and dance in the morning while Ss enter. #IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A1 always strive to know what your students are on too. High fives in the hallway after a big game or awesome concert. Let them know that you know. #LearnLAP#waLearnLAP
A1: Give your Ss voice and listen to what they say! Find out what they are passionate about and build lessons around that. Building relationships starts on day one and passion is discovered as you build relationships. #LearnLAP
A1: Freedom of choice gives kids an opportunity to learn while creating a product they are passionate about. I like to set the parameters in terms of content and let kids decide how they'd like to present it. #learnlap
A1: When to invest in our students outside of the academic world. If we know our students, we can bring in resources and guide them to their passions. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A1: Relationships comes down to trust. By creating a culture of trust, students will allow themselves to take risks and discover their passion. #learnlap
A1: We must show interests in our students outside of the content we teach! Sometimes their passion is our very own area of study but it can also be far from it. Ask questions, direct them to resources, and most importantly, show interest. #LearnLAP
A1 One way to build a relationship with the whole class is to teach with PASSION. Your passions may never become your Ss’ passions, but you will have taught them all that living a passionate, purposeful life is crucial. #learnlap
A1:Create a culture in your classroom built on trust, empathy and creativity. Take time to get to know each and every student. Let the students get to know you. Encourage students to pursue their strengths, be there for them when they fail and guide them to grow. #learnlap
A1: One of my coworkers @Grade3WI is so good at acknowledging and using kids' passions. She celebrates Theme Thursdays where everything is based around one kid's love. She recently celebrated Cat Day. So creative, so much work, so much fun. Her kids are lucky. #learnlap
A1. Get to know Ss, find out their interests, build projects and activities around their interests! Sometimes it takes working 1:1 with the Ss to find exactly what the missing piece of the puzzle is in order to make things thrive! #learnlap
Devoting time to attending sporting events, plays, band concerts, etc. shows our students we care. It also gives us an avenue to start a discussion about their interests.
In reply to
@emilyfranESL, @teresagross625, @PaulSolarz
A2: Try to make connections between your students’ lives and what is presented in your lesson. The interests that being to emerge from our students could transform into something they are passionate about. #learnLAP#troll209
A1: I like to be real with students and share stories from my life, or from successful people I know, that they can relate to. I love giving students the opportunities to explore their passions by mixing up assignments. #LearnLAP
It seems as though building mutual respect and sharing our passions will encourage students to develop and share their own! Excellent, supportive environments! #learnlap
A1 It is so important for the Ss to see the real you. Have fun and show the Ss who you are so they can show you the real child. Discuss your passions with them! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
a1 I've been reading about how we "retain" & working w/struggling Ss to help them understand how to deal with learning issues. Huge relationship builder #learnlap
A2: my class has a wonder wall where we post all the wonders we have for things we’ve discussed in school and things are they wondering about outside of school. It has been a great place for students to go to to steer their passions and peek their interests! #LearnLAP
A2: Recognize that passions change and grow, and we might not always know what our passions are. Acknowledge that with kids. Give them the opportunities to search, experiment, and have choice. #learnlap
A2 questionnaires in the beginning of the year are helpful tools to keep referring to throughout the year. They often forget what great insight they gave way back in August. #learnlap
A2. When kids are unsure of their passion, they need exposure! They need for us to bust our butts bringing new experiences to them, teaching them to open new doors for themselves, and taking them outside the walls of the school to see/learn new things #LearnLAP
A2: Have then compare what they are good at with what they enjoy doing. There are a plethora of interests surveys out there to get them started. #LearnLAP
A2 Everyone knows what they like. Tell Ss to start there if they are not sure where their talents and passions are— YET. It’s our job to make YET come sooner rather than later. #learnlap
My latest favourite thing to share with my students is the books that I've read- after I finish a new one we gather on the carpet- they get comfortable, and I tell them all about the novel- we love these times and I get to share my passion for stories #LearnLAP
A2: Give Ss options to shine! I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up! Let Ss show you what they learned, however they want! Draw, speak, write, skit, videos! #IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A2: build those relationships---spend time with your students and get to know them, not just academically....also, provoke, provoke, provoke! It's okay to provide an activity or book that allows them to start questioning ! #learnLAP
A2: Provide OPPORTUNITIES for students to discover their potential!
Instill in them #growthmindset and failing forward!
TIME & PLAY- Ss need time to be kids
#learnLAP
A2: My daughter has had a passion for all things Laura Ingalls Wilder for the past year & a half. It has taught me that even if I can't understand it, and it's not my passion, I can support it, learn from it, and celebrate it. It's helped me understand my students. #learnlap
A2: It goes back to conversations. Once you and Ss hone in on a couple of potential passions, guide them with "try this" along with some relevant materials to get them going and have them report back. #learnlap
A2 Encourage them to try new things. Provide a variety of options. I tell my Ss that I’m still trying to find my passions so I keep trying new things. #learnlap
A2: Continuous conversation. Also encouraging other students to share their thoughts so they can get ideas from one another. Sometimes it takes hearing from peers to encourage greater risk-taking #LearnLAP
A2: Exposure to different opportunities and experiences. Share your own interests and talk about those of others. Continued support- you never know when that passion will strike! #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness
A2: Part of getting an education means trying things out. We can encourage students to take risks and "test the waters." The more areas they explore, the more areas they are exposed to. With effort and direction, something will eventually stick. #learnlap
Have you read "Learn Like a PIRATE" and want to connect with others at your grade level/job description to discuss ideas? Add your Twitter name to the #LearnLAP PLN: https://t.co/yqOsvPp2kv
We'd love to have you join the PLN! :)
A2) Best way to support Ss is by always being in their corner and encouraging them to continue to try new things. Understanding that a setback is a setup for a COMEBACK! #learnlap
A2) Continue to allow times to listen to them, to talk to them and to allow them to be unique. This will allow them to see their potential. We are their cheerleaders, we cheer them on as they try sometimes succeed and sometimes try again.
#ihmarchmadness#learnlap
A2: When we give students lots of different opportunities to show what they know or to experiment with concepts in different ways, they may find that they gravitate to some more than others. #LearnLAP
A2. Giving Ss voice and choice and discussing their likes and dislikes and finding something that really interests them in learning! i.e. finding a book to read! #learnlap
Students should have exposure to much more than the content we teach. By giving them opportunities outside of our curriculum and even the classroom, we may be guiding them in a direction closer towards their true passion. #LearnLAP
My Ss are learning about the airlift in Germany so I brought in a pic of when I was a counterintelligence secretary behind the wall. Scored big points there. #learnlap
A1 Put your passions out there for the students to see. Students with like interest will want deeper relationships with you because of the common interest. #LearnLAP
A2: Show them what you are passionate about. When they understand what passion means it will help them discover theirs. Encourage Ss to be curious and plan inquiry based learning opportunities to help them discover their passions. #LearnLAP
A2: PRAISE THEM! Help them see those areas about themselves that they do not realize yet. Sometimes students are oblivious to their successes because they are too focused on their flaws. Praise them and help them believe in themselves! #learnlap@Stella_Pollard@misskoplin
A2: Let Ss explore multiple interests and topics so they can discover passions. Sometimes they just don't know what they don't know and need exposure and time to build joy! #LearnLAP
A1: it is important that our Ss feel that their interests, values, and goals are important. As Ts we can enhance in their learning by investing in their interests and dreams.#learnLAP
#LearnLAP Jerry Toups HS Math Tr from the Houston suburbs checking in. A1 My 1st classroom rule is the KEYSTONE to our Ss very being. Teach a kid to #Believe and they will find their passions.
A2 Create a culture in the classroom that fosters collaboration among Ss as well as the T. Ss will encourage each other and find passions together. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
We have a teacher @bozeman_dawn who has a clipboard at the front of the room. Every time a student encounters something while reading that they’ve never heard of, they add it to the clipboard and she does what she can to bring the item in/expose them! #learnlap#ownyourimpact
A2: It’s important for me as a MS teacher to let them know it’s okay to not know, but give different things a try even if you don’t think you’ll like them. Opportunities. Be open to new things. And don’t be afraid to have a passion that isn’t like other peers. #LearnLAP
A2: Have students compare what they are good at with what they enjoy doing. There is a plethora of interests surveys out there to get them started. #LearnLAP
A2 - I will repeat myself from Q1: let them make mistakes. Encourage them to take risks, experiment with new ideas, and teach them how to deal & roll with setbacks...and help them discover their passion in the process. #learnlap
A2 If students don't know what their passions are, up to us to help them experience a variety of learning opportunities. We should talk with them, share our passions, let them try different things. If we never talk to them/give them a chance, they will never discover. #LearnLAP
A2: Students like options. Give them the resources to find out what they are passionate about. Let them talk with other teachers, conduct research, experiment with what they think they like and then have conversations with them. Passion comes when you least expect it! #learnlap
Students should have exposure to much more than the content we teach. By giving them opportunities outside of our curriculum and even the classroom, we may be guiding them in a direction closer towards their true passion. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A2 provide diff opps for Ss to explore, whether through #pbl or #geniushour have time for Ss to share ideas and brainstorm together, be avail for conversations, #learnLAP

@emilyfranESL, @teresagross625, @PaulSolarz
A2: Providing an atmosphere that encourages exploration, creativity and taking risks. Teach them how to reflect and move on when something doesn’t work. #LearnLAP
A2 - Our classroom is a year of discovery. Students learn so much about themselves (strengths, struggles, interests, etc.). When you let the kids do the talking & provide an environment where curiosity is valued, students begin to see a clearer picture of themselves! #LearnLAP
A2-Consistent reminders (best teaching practice) that it’s ok to make mistakes and take risks. I tell them, “you know many times as an adult, we don’t always know what we want to do in life, so it’s totally understandable that a young one like you doesn’t either”! #learnlap
I read aloud to all of my classes today and was surprised at the discussion that was able to take place as a result! I teach 7th Grade and didn’t think it would be the most effective practice, but I will be doing it more often now that I know! :) #learnlap
A2: Encourage collaboration and expose them to various outlets. It’s all about building a culture that promotes creating and achieving goals. #learnLAP
A1: From day one I find something with each student that I have in common with them. Once we can have that commonality then I can help them build on that passion in the classroom. #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness
A3: how we can learn what our students are passionate about is by holding those one-on-one conversations. Getting to know about their likes/dislikes and he kinds of things they do outside of school will help in allowing us to understand what they enjoy. #LearnLAP
A3: By taking time every day to talk to and listen to your students you get to know them. This can be at Morning Meeting or class discussions. This is also a great time to share your interests and passions with the students as well. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
#LearnLAP A2 The relationships you build with your Ss should turn you into a beacon of light and a source of hope for your Ss. #BePositive#Believe in them.
I agree. Even in 7th Grade, they like being read to sometimes. I read some of the more vocab heavy science stuff aloud so we can get to the activity that shows it sometimes. #learnlap

@Stella_Pollard, @teresagross625, @ValentinaESL
A3: I ask them questions during different sports seasons, see if they follow a team or ask each season if they play a sport. I go to the musical productions. #learnlap
Yes. Even have some parents come in and talk about their careers and experiences. This can open the door for more inquiry on the part of students. #LearnLAP
A3: Talk to them and listen!! If the relationship is there, Ss WANT to tell you about their passions! I have one student that loves to dance! Another that loves to read about WWII. Give each student a minute of your time! #IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A3: Get to know you activities at the beginning of the year. Also corporate them throughout the year. Genius hour projects are also a good way to learn more about your kids. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3 ask them build relationships and engage in genuine conversation where we really listen. Our students started a Pokémon club this year. It’s student founded and led and it has been a huge hit. So fun to watch kids grow through their passions #LearnLAP
Can I just say I hate grades for this very reason. Students get defined by their grades not their potential. They don’t see grades as feedback for learning. #LearnLAP
A2: Letting Ss try and fail and keep trying shows them it’s okay to not know their passion yet! Heck there are days I’m still looking for new passions. It’s okay to keep trying. #learnLap#IHMarchMadness
A3: Surveys, talking to students, lunch bunches, writing to each other, Morning Meeting activities. My kids have some fun passions this year: tacos (I know, how fun!), technology, dogs, cats, natural disasters. #learnlap
A3: we should pay attention to the conversations they have with each other! My students are currently passionate about origami! See my feed for more info! :) #learnLAP

A3 Time, time &take more time. The only way to know Ss and build relationships is to invest the time and care about them. Talk with them, listen, encourage. I have students that were passionate athletes, video game players, social activists. Use that to design learning. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: Be observant - Be PRESENT
A true relationship is the way to learn what our Ss are passionate about.
Danna right now is pAsSiOnAtE about our Spanish Spelling Bee

A3: Easiest answer all night! Talk to your students! I have students who are passionate about anything from gaming to competitive horse-racing to makeup application videos on @YouTube! #learnlap
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
It's fascinating. Example: I didn't know that "reading over" builds a false sense of confidence, "I thought I knew." Better: self assess...& on & on. #LearnLAP
A3: Surveys and book discussions help me to see what my students are passionate about
Right now many of my students are passionate about service to others such as helping the homeless ,also many are passionate about technology #LearnLAP
A3, Part 2: I found out that many of my students are interesting in baking. We plan on Skyping with a middle school home ec teacher to get their questions answered and learn from an expert. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3 I like taking my Ss beyond what they already know, think, or believe in. Now, how does this fit into your current perspectives? The Ss’ ideas, insights, and discussions are amazing! #learnlap
#LearnLAP@Stella_Pollard , I have been reading aloud to middle schoolers over the past few months , and they seemed so relaxed and refreshed afterwards

A3 when students are passionate about the reading or writing they are doing, they do it with ease. Internal motivation-because they are so interested. Not doing it for the grade or bc I told them they must. But they are driven to read more, write more #learnLAP
A3 Lunch time hangouts are where it’s at. Let them talk. Ask questions. No judgement. Some of my students are big into #TheWalkingDead and superheroes. Sports, music, and movies are always good to spark conversation. #LearnLAP
A3: Listen to them! I have students who are passionate about sports, civic responsibility, science, robotics. All this learned from conversations and observation in classrooms. So important to be out of the office. #LearnLAP
A3-We learn about their passions by asking ?s (on a daily basis). I have 1 std right now obsessed with soccer, thankfully I am too, so I ask him ?s we share opinions on games viewed & of course the players he looks up to. He has opened up & confidence has skyrocketed. #learnlap
A3: We have to create room for students to be able to express what they are interested in. For example, I have students who want to be graphic designers so I incorporate drawing options into assignments at different points. #learnlap
By expressing your very own hobbies/interests, often times students will come forth and express theirs. If your're lucky, they may share the same hobbies/interests as you. One student of mine listens to the same DJ I do and since this conversation, we bond over music. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3. Talk to them, ask them, give them time to reflect and share both in groups, whole class and individually. I add questions at the end of Google Forms quizzes to ask simple questions, then mine the data for hidden gems. #learnlap
A3: I have a daily question on my board each day and this has helped me find Ss passions throughout the year and watch them change! I have one that loves anything sports, one that does ballet, one that does Archery...so fun. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A3) I find that by listening to Ss and building relationships, I find out a lot more about their passions. Showing them that I am more than a badge is something I strive for. The last 2 years Ss and I have made rap videos about school issues.#learnlaphttps://t.co/ktMDzDlhs4
A3: I've used Genuis Hour or Passion projects. I also just ask! :) I've tried to really make it a point to get to know my students on a deeper level this year! #LearnLAP
A3: Our classroom is a HS art studio, so lots of room for discussion around interests. Listen and engage if they seem comfortable. Sports, finding jobs to make money, and lots of social issues! #LearnLAP
We have a teacher @bozeman_dawn who has a clipboard at the front of the room. Every time a student encounters something while reading that they’ve never heard of, they add it to the clipboard and she does what she can to bring the item in/expose them! #learnlap#ownyourimpact
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: Of course I'd share! By sharing, we show our Ss that it's okay to be excited about something and to take risks to make our dreams come true!
We can learn about our Ss by attending their extracurricular activities and exposing them to a wide variety of experiences, #learnLAP

A3: I've learned this year that Ss are naturally compassionate, + truly want to give back to their communities; they need guides such as Ts to help them along the way. We've have a very successful student-led Give Back to Beeville initiative. One group received $21,000! #learnlap
I also like to play some “get-to-know-you” games using Google Forms, @Flipgrid, @GetKahoot, and more. @jmattmiller has an interesting strategy in using Forms to create a Family Fued game. Could use this to get to know students. #learnlap
A3: Pay attention. Listen to conversations as kids enter your classroom. Be present in the hallway. Visit the cafeteria. Read what is on their shirt. I find kids are VERY WILLING to talk about the things that interest them, so I try to give them opportunities to do so. #learnlap
A3 My Ss are working on #pbl and so I get to learn so much about what they are passionate about sports, animals, healthcare, rights of people, and we are now looking more at the #SDGs and tying it into their work #learnlap

Talk to them. Tell them stories about ourselves. Several girls in my Honors Calc class play b-ball. Friday they played a playoff game vs the school from the town I live in. I told them I always rout my students. #LearnLAP
A1: I think it’s important to show our Ss that we are people too. I let them see my mistakes, my hobbies, my family. I try to find the little things about each student to show them I care and listen to their passions outside of the classroom. #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness

#learnLAP A2: I have never found a student's not knowing his or her passion to be an obstacle to my support of them. It's ok for Ss to not be sure about their passions. In fact, it may be healthy to try on many coats before choosing one that may become an identity.
A3: The best way I learn what my students are passionate about is to ask in a student survey at the beginning of the semester. Called Meet & Greet Survey! Help create from @LovePhyEd#LearnLAP
Q3: A few of my students are into advancements in telecommunications. I didn’t know until they built this! This was their project. I gave them a date range. They ran with it! #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3 I instilled a Passion project in my ELA class. Only constraint is that they had to do something that would leave an impact on their community/family. I wanted to build responsible/respectful citizens. It is incredible what they could come up with. #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: We've had students do #geniushour activities in which they researched serving children with cancer, raising awareness for battered women shelters, organizing donations for the food pantry, and designing youtube channels to teach elementary students. Awesome!!! #learnlap
A3: I've also started having my students write journal entries with prompts/free write days as an option for morning work and they are usually very interesting and telling. #LearnLAP
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: Let your Ss do the talking .As Ts it is important to take the time to just listen. I’ve learned so much by just having lunch with my students and let them take the lead . #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: Just today one of my HS students came to me and asked if we could start a recycling program at our elementary school. Sometimes my students inspire me. #learnlap
A3: TA Ss we do some career research and it is fun to see what they’re interested in. Sometimes I allow class discussions to take detours because you can learn a lot about Ss during this. Also, I talk to them 1on1 sometimes while they’re working for FB and get 2 know #LearnLAP
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: We can learn what our Ss are passionate about by not only listening but also talking to them. Observing them and their peer interactions. Taking the time to get to know them on a personal level. In kindergarten they are passionate about building right now. #LearnLAP
Pokemon helped me bond with a couple of my MS boys. It started with a convo about my husband calling me Jiggly Puff when I was pregnant. Lol! #LearnLAP
A3. In projects that we do, it's having Ss choose their interests to incorporate and design as were making, inventing, creating, designing, etc. what they wish to add in the project! It's important for them to add their own unique creativity. #Learnlap
A2: help them find that passion! Give them opportunities in the classroom that you know they’ll excel at and let them know how awesome they are at it. #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness
A3: Knowing our students is the most important part of our job. Communicate with the goal of learning not telling. Our teachers kept us in a box, we opened it, these kids are blowing it to pieces. #learnlap
A4: I need to be better at this! Again, I think tying choice to content may help kids discover passions or solidify what they already love. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness#eaglespln
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A3: Talk to them! It is amazing what you can learn by asking them what they enjoyed most about their weekend. When we promote our interests, Ss tend to share theirs as well. It’s all about the climate of your classroom that allows Ss to express themselves. #learnLAP
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4: I like to make my instruction as student led as possible. Using the strategy of QFT has really allowed my students the freedom to explore the questions or interests they have. #LearnLAP
A4: I love giving them opportunities to teach and lead the class. Ss step up to the plate who may not in a larger setting and discover they like it! #learnlap
A3: Communication = building relationships. I see may Ss 30-60 minutes/day but know so much about them & what they like to do outside of school. Don't just focus on academics, focus on the whole child. Went to my 1st S 🏀 game and made great memories! #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness
A4: I love to do current events, every other week. This allows Ss to research and learn what they want! International, national, or local. They choose their topic and choose how to “teach” our class about it! #IHMarchMadness#learnlap
#LearnLAP
A3. I do a Monday morning share to allow students to share what they did over the weekend. I am always surprised how much they share. This allows me to get to know their interests and I can build on that.

A3: Ask them! Use @Flipgrid and see what their interested in. Make a class Instagram account and see the trends. Eat lunch with the kids and see what they are talking about. Ask the librarian, see what books are popular with the kids. #learnlap
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4 I try to design my students' learning around their choices. I work on making learning as personalized as possible, have students attain standards with various/differentiated content/production. As they make their choice/choose, they discover passions. #LearnLAP Empower them!
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
Q4: The opportunity to produce/create materials that reflect their learning in a medium they enjoy. For example, if a S wants to show me they understand a math concept through photography, I'm going to say "let's do this!" #learnlap
A4: Allow students to have some voice and choice in how they learn, show understanding, and expand on their learning. This may allow them the freedom to go deeper, or wonder off track and stumble upon a joyful passion. #LearnLAP
A4 Giving students the opportunity to create something can help them discover passions. Also, giving them opportunities to work with others and just talk with others can broaden their perspective and help them discover. #learnlap
I teach GREAT to 4 and 6 grade Ss. The 6th graders put on a GREAT Dance and raise money for a cause in our community. 2 yrs ago we had the largest one time donation to Amer Cancer Society and last year we raised money and made quilts for veterans “Quilts of Valor” #learnlap
A4: I provide plenty of opportunities for my ESL students to embrace their language and culture. LOVING who they are WILL lead to tapping into the many possibilities to help others.
Telling their story will empower them!
#learnLAP
As a world language instructor, I have provided opportunities for my students to act, draw, build, and even write short stories around new vocabulary as a method to connect with it. #LearnLAP

#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4: Procide choice in class. When writing, allow topic choice within a genre. When giving research projects, let students choose the format...blog, video, or whatever other way they choose to create #LearnLAP
A4 I have diff questions about getting to know them, or create activ for this, also just by doing the #pbl and letting them take time to find something of interest #learnlap

A3: take time out of the day to talk to your Ss about their personal lives. Put the curriculum aside and focus on those relationships. Lately I have been playing with my Ss at recess and having that time to see the real them, away from the academics. #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness
Q3: How can we, as educators, learn what our students are passionate about?
Would you share what some of your current students are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4 I use @SkypeClassroom to expose Ss to activities they might never have experienced. You never know when they will find their passion. Also using Global Goals which leads to many new experiences. #learnlap
This is my first time doing #20time so far I am not sure my Students will accomplish their goals. Here is a link to their elevator pitches. Would love feedback #learnlaphttps://t.co/p5SU99SKzi
A3 listen with your heart - care enough to ask - discuss and participate : here you go ! Our PASSION board from first days of school !! We played a game matching kids to passions ! #learnLAP
A4: Expose them to various types of activities. #geniushour#coding#breakoutedu, have them blog, video production. The more choice students have the more likely they are to discover their potential. Sometimes your quietest students can make the biggest impact! #learnlap

A4: We MUST have opportunities for success. When our students feel the joy of success, that can spark the flame that can quickly grow into a raging passion. #LearnLAP
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4: We brainstorm lists of topics to help us show learning. Often a student will jump on a familiar topic, but then realize they are actually interested in exploring something else from the collective list. #LearnLAP
A2/A3: Pointing out students' strengths and having those quality conversations through conferring and discussion. Some of first graders love learning about the Different Branches of Military and events that have happened in History. #LearnLAP
A4: Multigenre prjcts and I like 2 make assignmts that are fun and engaging, not run of the mill. I like 2 challenge myself as a teacher 2 create new lessons that get the students to create and think outside the box. I like to let Ss decide how 2 put something together. #learnlap
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?

A4. This is a great question! Currently, my students are writing their own books on the Cold War via @BookCreatorApp, and some of them have gotten super into it and are doing way more than expected. #LearnLAP
A4 I try to give choice any time I can. If my standard or learning goal can be accomplished, I don’t particularly care what the topic is. Last year (when I was still in the classroom) we worked on reasesrching. Ss chose topics from galaxies to Pokémon. #LearnLAP

A4 - Every unique lesson has some kind of modeling of excellent work. I usually hides names but stress thecridk taking that the student did. An example, podcast on scoliosis. #learnLAP
A4 - So important to provide students with experiences they've never had before:
- Tweeting to the authors of the books we're reading: https://t.co/79P8FkpchP
- Speaking to the mayor & local educators & administrators at a Leadership Fair: https://t.co/MYs7YRhcPa#LearnLAP
A4 Kinders - open ended journal writing, free draw, imaginative play, STEM building w/legos and/or blocks. Secret sack allows them to bring what they love and give us clues about it on their helper day.

#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A4: We watch CNN 10 each day and this has sparked interest in topics that otherwise wouldn’t be touched on. This lets the students chat and research more about it to share with us. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
Q4: My lessons go off on tangents all.the.time. We had George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on our calendar numbers, which lead into a discussion about why they were important, where they lived, etc. #LearnLAP

A3 Watch Ss, talk to them, ask questions, provide options for students to show their passions. We have to see the child as a whole, just not academics. Most importantly, listen! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A4 - Hate auto correct. Modeling great student work and stressing the risk taking. Student did a podcast on scoliosis. It was empowering to others. #LearnLAP
A5: When students are given freedom to learn, they can be encouraged for life. That is why it’s so important to create an environment where students are free to take risks #LearnLAP
#learnlap I worry that a S who already knows his passion is going to have a hard time opening his mind to new ideas. What is the point of a liberal ed. at this age if all we are going to do is help pigeon-hole themselves in a passion? Tap passion as a bridge, not a dead end.
A4: My colleague @ksuang4 turned me on to CNN10. My kids watch it and learn about current events, we the. Journal about what stuck with us! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
#LearnLAP A4 Looking back at my life, I am a firm believer in the attached phrase. ROLE MODEL WHAT IS RIGHT! WALK THE TALK! Be a source of what is good for your Ss. Their ability to choose right over wrong will ultimately lead them to their talents.
A5: if students are passionate about what they’re learning, it won’t be learning at all. You’ll have better listeners, explorers, collaborators, creators, etc. if they’re passionate about their work. #LearnLAP
#LearnLAP Q4:I ask students what kind of book they would like to read or movie or video game they would play they would watch if they had The choice of anything they could imagine!
A5 When you are passionate about something, it is not work. You want to do it. I love to think about passion work instead of homework. Learning should be curious, intense, fun. Help kids discover. Listen to @burgessdavehttps://t.co/sNzavWuPvK This video = game changer #LearnLAP
A4 As a math and science teacher I liked to introduce students to different literature. Things they might not pick out for their AR reading. Some of them find things they want to learn more about. #LearnLAP
A4-We can embed relevancy to today’s world, careers, jobs and life paths by ensuring that we make those connections for them. They need to hear about that, versus having them ponder without guide! #learnlap
A4 - (Part 2) So important to provide students with experiences they've never had before:
- Writing a historical skit & acting it out on a green screen: https://t.co/Zuy8tC4fDP
- Participating in a Mini-Debate: https://t.co/RUw1VLPPIh#LearnLAP
I know. Told student to price out bins for collecting and I will work on finding donors. Student also took intuitive to find volunteers for pickup. #learnlap
A5: For many Ss, learning doesn't come easy. When Ts allow Ss to showcase their passions and talents it gives them a reason to enjoy school and learning! #IHMarchMadness#learnlap#eaglespln
Absolutely! Giving students choices is a plus. We will be surprised by the outcomes of students' learning when there are choices made available. #LearnLAP
A4: In my resource room I think this is tricky. But the lines of communication are open during our group sessions. Hopefully the confidence and support I try to give my Ss carries over into the generalized setting! #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness
A5: If students are interested, they don't mind working. Finding that hook, can show Ss that learning means more than a test grade. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness#eaglespln
A4: allowing them to present/find their answers in a way they feel comfortable and confident in. I also let my Ss share their thoughts with one another to open up the conversation more. #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness
Q4: What opportunities do we embed in our instruction that may help discover their potential which can lead to what they are passionate about?
#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A5: When you find your Students passion and meet them where they are at, you have the opportunity to have that student realizing that learning is powerful and fun and absolutely worth every second of sweat they put into it. #learnlap
Absolutely. Love getting them in a little debate and defending their side. #learnlap Love it even more when they consider another side as they gain information! Important skill!
A5: This can't be underestimated. I have a hard-to-reach student who absolutely came alive when I informally showed him how to make sports trivia quizzes on Google Forms. I couldn't have planned for that kind of impact. #LearnLAP
Sorry, #LearnLAP! I just had my own passion moment. @NASA brings it All. The. Time. In my alternate fantasy life I am an astronaut and an astrophysicist. :-)
Do the laws of physics hold up in the microgravity environment on the @Space_Station? Watch as @AstroKomrade demonstrates Newton's Second Law of Motion from his recent trip to space! Watch: https://t.co/ViduQBLkxX
A5: Just like adults, Ss do better and learn more when they are engaged and interested! It’s important to learn passions and learning styles. No one learns the same way! #IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A4 - (Part 3) So important to provide students with experiences they've never had before:
- Becoming Forensic Detectives to study Chemistry & Matter: https://t.co/x32FaVkwNL
- Presenting well-crafted arguments before a "member of Congress": https://t.co/M0vRA3pDya#LearnLAP
A5: if students are passionate about what they’re learning, it won’t be learning at all. You’ll have better listeners, explorers, collaborators, creators, etc. if they’re passionate about their work. #LearnLAP
A4 - This is a tough option, but one that with time can truly make a difference. “To students, if you had the entire day to do whatever you want, what would you do?” Incredibly reflective. #LearnLAP
A5: When you are passionate about something, you WANT to learn more about it. You want to work harder for it. It’s the same reason all us Ts are in this chat right now. This is our passion and we are striving to learn more and be better! #learnlap
A4: I'm fine with spending more time having big class discussions (even if a little off topic) if the students are engaged and excited about something. We had a huge debate on human rights the other day that I LOVED listening to! #LearnLAP
A5: For that student who doesn’t like school or “learning” allowing them to have a passion and share it with the class, this helps them feel part of the process/class! And they are learning! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A5: I just believe that once students get ahold of their potential, they will be FIRED up to continue learning to reach their passion to ultimately be successful and happy! #learnLAP
A5: When students find what they’re passionate about they begin to have a hunger for more and more knowledge, despite content area. If your lessons are engaging and new they can tailor it to their passion and make a connection somehow. #learnlap
A4: I believe that choice promotes engagement and inquiry. I also encourage Ss to create their own math problems and then occasionally use them for worksheets and even assessments. They also love challenge problems like this crack the code activity that I do. #learnLAP
#LearnLAP A5: I discovered this child was a secret writer and when he found out that his substitute teacher (me) Was an author suddenly he became a star in the classroom instead of on the fringe #undercoversub
A5 Once the passion has been found, learning becomes more fun and less work. Learning is more than just a grade or a "i'm finished", they take more ownership in their work.
#IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A5 Their passion can provide an entry point for learning. Many things we teach can be pivoted to take advantage of those opportunities for engagement and excitement #LearnLAP
A5 That light will be lit once they get excited about their own learning, because they will have ownership of it and once that happens, they will just blossom. As a teacher, there is no greater joy than to see their success! #learnLAP
A5. Sometimes it takes years before you know that passion has fully engulfed the kid. I got a text from a student I taught four years ago and he said--"I think I am going to major in Political Science and run for local public office" #LearnLAP
A1: I get to know my students from day 1 - I find something that they love and try to find something we can have in common! I love to laugh with my students and build that strong relationship! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A5 - Among many other things, students could gain valuable skills that can be used in other academic areas while focusing on their passions! I have some students creating a website to sell things right now - we need that skill for our Entrepreneurship unit! #LearnLAP
A5. If we can find what intertests a child in learning, and light the fire, we've succeeded in driving the learning process where the child grows wings and begins to fly. They investigate and explore and control their own learning. #Learnlap
A5: Finding passion can ignite learning for Ss because they will be interested and invested in what they are learning. Learning possibilities are endless when you tap into students passion. #LearnLAP
A5: Seems like Students have an increased interest in school when they are allowed to pursue their passions there. Increased Voice and Choice brings increased Student Engagement in learning! #LearnLAP
A5: When they find that passion, or even just something they are genuinely interested in, they become invested! They even want to share and may help others get excited about their passion too! #LearnLAP
A5 Their passion can be connected across every content and can be linked to an unlimited amount of other topics. We have got to start preparing students for their future not a test. Their future will most likely be connected to their passion. #LearnLAP
A5: When a student is passionate about learning, they are able to make meaning and see the relevance to their life. Now, they are truly invested in both the process and the outcome, and the experience will be beneficial and memorable. #learnlap
Absolutely. Love getting them in a little debate and defending their side. #learnlap Love it even more when they consider another side as they gain information! Important skill!
#LearnLAP A5 Mark Twain says it best. When you find out why you are here, your life is changed. When you use your talents to make others better, JOY is produced. #LessonsOfLife
A5 - There is this huge disconnect between what we sometimes think is important and what students think is important. Is our job about providing information? Or is it about allowing students the chance to change the world? #LearnLAP
#learnlap A5: I think the most passionate light we can (and SHOULD) light as Ts is a passion for learning. Once a S has that, the topic is irrelevant and can change as they get older. (Pro tip: It WILL change as they get older.)
A5. Step out of the way and allow students and their cultures to shape what we do in the classroom. Kids will remember how they were formed by each others' experiences #LearnLAP
A5: by finding and knowing that passion, you will be able to incorporate it in their learning and motivate them to continue learning with excitement! #learnLAP#IHMarchMadness
Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?
How will THIS help them be successful individuals and adults?
#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A5: The goal is to create life long learners. Once Ss ignite their passion , the possibilities are endless. It is our jobs as Ts to make sure we never dim or extinguish their light. #LearnLAP
A5 - I remember how I felt when I first read @jk_rowling ‘s Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone. Wow! That ignited a love of reading I yearned to have but hadn’t yet found. It was long ago, but I will never forget that feeling. That’s what I want our Ss to experience! #LearnLAP
A5: There are not many things sweeter than students who come to you excited to show what they have learned or tell you "wait, I want to get it myself!" Make you go... #learnlap
A5. If we can find what intertests a child in learning, and light the fire, we've succeeded in driving the learning process where the child grows wings and begins to fly. They investigate and explore and control their own learning. #Learnlap
Find their passion and embrace it into your day will naturally motivate students to work. Their voices are heard. Someone is there to encourage them. They feel important. These are all reasons why students would go above and beyond. #LearnLAP
A5: When you create a spark, learning can be contagious. One of my favorite quotes from the pirate leader himself, @burgessdave#learnlap . When students find their passion, let curiosity run wild! #tlap

#learnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
#LearnLAP IMO this topic IS WHY WE TEACH. It's not about the academic knowledge. It's LOVING your Ss to show them the way to find the talents they have been blessed with. This is WAY MORE important than a state test grade, PERIOD! #KidsDeserveIt
A6: Success is NOT:
a grade
passing a test
a diploma
Success is USING our potential to serve others.
We need to empower our students to want to reach THIS success! Best. Feeling. Ever!

A6: When students find what they are passionate about they are also able to recognize the reason for practically everything they do. They will look at the tasks they have to complete and realize the purpose of the work and how it will benefit them. #learnLAP#troll209
A6: It is important because it is our job. Too often we get lost in the content and forget that true learning comes from making meaning from the skills they develop. When students pursue their interests, don't stifle their learning. Embrace it and celebrate it. #learnlap
A6: My passion is teaching, I could never sit at a desk all day! Finding Ss passions will help them to succeed in their future! They need to find their path and learning their passion is step one! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A6 - Question for everyone? Do you love teaching? If yes, think about the passion that has given you and your students. When students find something they feel vested in, ownership is the next step that pushes their passion. Same thing for us. If not, why tweet! #LearnLAP
A6: Mark Twain said, “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.” The same can be said for passion. We have to make sure not to squash students passions. Education can provide opportunities to pursue passion. We have to encourage that pursuit! #learnlap
Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?
How will THIS help them be successful individuals and adults?
#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A6: Ts must model the importance of being a lifelong learner! When Ss are passionate about learning it almost seems effortless! After all, so many of their future jobs haven’t even been created yet! We must encourage problem solving and reaching their goals. #learnlap
A6: It’s important 2 encourage Ss 2 find their passion because it’s like a missing puzzle piece that gives you part of clue of who you are and what you’re capable of. Passions help you have a guide for what direction to go and path to choose. It helps you find success. #LearnLAP
Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?
How will THIS help them be successful individuals and adults?
#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A6. If a Ss can find their purpose for learning, the passion drives them to learn more! The soon will gain control of their own learning, becoming independent learners! As adults, in careers, we need to be indepedent learners and fly with our wings! #learnlap
A6: When students find their passion it helps guide them and keep them motivated, engaged, and wondering. It's a beautiful thing to find your passion and pursue that in life. Makes pretty much every day a good day. #LearnLAP
#learnlap A6: Sorry to be a contrarian but I don't think it's helpful at all. They're still exploring and SHOULD be! Let a passion find them in time..don't make them feel like a passion is something they SHOULD be trying to find RIGHT NOW. Worst result: S finds 1 just to please u

a6 I think when Ss discover the joy of serving others, they tend to struggle less with emotional issues. I don't think we don't really know what will make us "happy" thus a frustrating pursuit #LearnLAP
A7: I love to chat with educators who are just as passionate about these ideas as I am! Forever grateful for this amazing chat and hoping to continue to learn through all of you! #LearnLAP
When a student or anyone finds their passion it opens up a whole new world. They have a desire to dig deeper and discover as much as possible about their passion. The student is unstoppable! #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness
Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?
How will THIS help them be successful individuals and adults?
#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A6: Everyone has a passion, this allows them to grow and change throughout life. Our job is to ignite that passion and add fuel to it. Not always easy, but always rewarding! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
#LearnLAP A6 When you help a child to figure out why they are here, and the talents they are blessed with, JOY is produced and blessings beyond measure are released. This is what makes teaching PRICELESS!
A7: Create classrooms where students pursue their dreams, their passions and more importantly, their future. Foster relationships where students look back on your class and say, "That's where I found my why." #learnlap
A7: Great chat tonight. Have to go back and read over some responses since they flew in so rapidly. Have some new folks to follow and learn from after tonight. Love having this awesome #PLN to learn from. Looking forward to more next time #LearnLAP
A6: Passion fuels learning. And one passion may lead to another, further developing student growth and exploration. Also passion helps to develop good work ethic. Passionate people are not usually lazy people. #LearnLAP
A7: That I think passion & positivity are intertwined; I think about the most passionate people I know and it extends to multiple areas/facets of their lives- maybe with our students we begin by seeing and stressing the good and the passions follow #LearnLAP
This is so important. I don’t think that as a society we realize that helping students to learn to engage with each other and problem solve is key. #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A7 Passion is what give our lives purpose. You can tell the Ts who have passion by talking to them for 5 minutes. We owe it to our Ss to help them find theirs.
Don't count the days, make the days count!!!! #LearnLAP
#learnLAP A4I think by integrating the 4 c”s creativity-collaboration-communication and critical thinking into our instruction it helps to unearth their passions
A6: When Ss find their passion, one component is this leads to developing social relationships with others who share that passion. These relationships are imperative to a successful future as a human being #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness

Great chat tonight! Hope you can join me here next week as we talk about "Learning in a Culture of Curiosity" and continue this great discussion on making a difference in the lives of our students! @PaulSolarz@burgessdave#learnlap
I am SO elated my first twitter chat focused on passion. This seems to be on my mind every waking day as it is something that leads to purpose. Thank you all for contributing your thoughts and showing how passionate you are about embracing student centered classrooms. #LearnLAP
A6: because without passion, what will motivate them to succeed in life? By encouraging them now, we are preparing them for the real world when it truly matters #LearnLAP#IHMarchMadness
Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?
How will THIS help them be successful individuals and adults?
#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A7: This was a great reminder on how individualized learning and teaching should always be! Passions are passions for a reason! #learnlap#IHMarchMadness
A7 Without passion there is no purpose. Learn/Teach/Lead with passion, kindness and heart. You will never go wrong. Make it about the kids; it is all about them!!! #LearnLAP
A6: Once teachers help a student find their passion they will become life long learners. They will be successful in the future because their passion will help them strive to be their best and never stop learning. #LearnLAP
A7: I love collaborating with other educators who are passionate and dedicated to their profession. I also believe participating in these chats models using resources and practicing 21st century skills! Thanks for chatting everyone! Looking forward to the next one! #learnlap
Q1: I agree with you that establishing a bond means a lot to students. They can only feel safe to share their ideas if there’s trust. In my class we call meetings and the students know they have a voice in making changes to benefit their growth. #LearnLAP
Hi Paul, popping into #LearnLAP as soon as I saw this great Q. Carol here from Long Island. A6 Ss who are passionate about life & learning are more apt 2 become lifelong learners, curious citizens, seekers of knowledge. We need 2 set the stage 4 more inquiry-based learning.

Q6: Why is it important to encourage students to find their PASSION?

#LearnLAP@teresagross625@PaulSolarz
A7: Biggest Aha for me, was the more freedom, Voice and Choice I gave to my students; the more they led, engaged and invested in our classroom and in their learning. Ss will do amazing things if you let them. #LearnLAP
A7. If we can find a purpose for a Ss, we can find their passion in learning! This will allow them to grow and explore in their interests and eventually gain control of their own learning! Which will be a useful technique as an adult! #learnlap
#LearnLAP A7 I wrote this phrase in December of 1990, my 1st year teaching, little did I know how prophetic this phrase was about my future. Some Trs just don't realize how important their words and actions are. #YouMakeADifference! Never forget that!
A6- Our passion drives us. Without passion, we’re just existing - not living. We’re going through the motions - not growing & achieving. Our Ss don’t often realize their own passions, & without our support & guidance, may not fully embrace them. #LearnLAP
A7: In the day-to-day, working with 125 unique individuals, nurturing passions is hard but it's way more rewarding than sticking to the script. #LearnLAP
A7: I think it’s AMAZING to have so many educators comment and respond and care about helping Ss find their passion. You can see it in their eyes when you start a spark and get them thinking about their options! #LearnLAP
This chat helps me to remember all the great discussions I had in grad school. Encouraging students to follow their passions is what I am doing still teaching. Thanks . #learnlap#IHMarchMadness

A7: Passion leads to success and strengthens student relationships. Take the time to listen to their voice and truly get to know your students. It is worth every minute you invest! #LearnLAP
A6 Encouraging students to find their passion will make learning more fun and finding peers with like interests and passions easier.
This is a life skill and as our passions change, identifying that as adults will help us as we continue our education.

A7 This chat has reminded me to let my students see my passions, to take more time to listen and allow them to discover their passions while we learn and grow in Kinder.
#IHMarchMadness#learnlap
A7: First, if you don't love what you do, it's time to move on. Second, add reflection to your class to make your S's start setting their own goals & making sure they listen to their heart. #LearnLAP
Thanks so much to everyone who participated in tonight's #LearnLAP chat! Especially, @teresagross625 & @emilyfranESL for moderating! Wow! TY!
Please join us next week as @RichHayzler moderates. TOPIC: "Learning in a culture of curiosity!"
Also, #tlap is about to start! :)
A7-Greatest take away from this evening is the wonderful ideas in a technological support system that I can come back to any time. Knowing that passionate individuals like me are igniting and motiving students in a world that seems hopeless at times is priceless! #learnLAP
A6. I always tell students to find they love, not what everyone says they should do. Personally I have had a job that pays way better than teaching but my heart wasn't in it. I would rather make less and enjoy it. I share that story with them.
